I would give my husband anything in the world... Except for sex.
He's hurting without intimacy. I'm drowning in a marriage riddled with problems I created. Things would be perfect if I could give him the love he needs. I can't get past the locked door in my mind though.
Every man has a breaking point. Even the faithful ones. So I'm not shocked when his eyes start to wander… But I can't deny my jealousy when his eyes land on her.
She's everything I'm not. She gives him what I can't. She'll destroy our marriage. My universe will be smashed to bits. She will split us apart… And life as I know it will be over.
Danielle James is a wife and mother of two, who has written and published over twenty romance novels. Danielle’s work spans from sweet and romantic to dark and taboo. She prides herself on writing bold romance for bold readers. Her books are sexually charged with alpha female characters that leap off the pages. Each book sucks you into an entirely different world with steamy scenes, drama, and amazing plot twists along the way. Her goal is to hook you and keep you addicted so you'll come back for more.
I had such high hopes about this book after reading its interesting blurb but the execution of it killed it for me. Such a shame because it had a potentially awesome plot. If it had been done wisely and tastefully, it could have been epic but nope, sadly, it is not good enough.
Go read Black Lies by Alessandra Torre instead. With a similar plot, you can see how you can make wonders.

It is really hard to write a review about this book because as it seems, a lot of effort has been put into it. It is a book with 392 pages, not a book with 200 pages and around, which shows that the writer has put special effort into it.
And as its extraordinary plot requires, I guess that a lot of research must have been done to be able to write it.
Still, with all that effort, there are so many WRONG things about it that I need to mention about them all, showing you why and how they ruined the book for me.
**********************************************
My problems with the book:
1. First of all, the book has an interesting plot but it is way too PREDICTABLE. It felt as if I knew what was going to happen 100 pages later and it was always true.
I always knew what would happen until the very last page. That made it SO BORING! I can’t tell you how it felt to read a nearly 400-page book in which you fucking knew what would happen all the time. Pure torture it was!
The writer gives very clear clues as to what happened in the past and what is happening now so there is no thrill, no excitement about it. Just plain boredom.
**********************************************
2. It is too long. I accept that it has a delicate plot that you need to handle carefully. You need to set the background well and it definitely requires detailed characterization but there are too many repetitions that could have been cut down. It is at least 90 pages too long. 300 pages would be ideal for a book like this.
**********************************************
3. I only liked Margot in the book. Sutton isn’t my jam and the hero Lennox is too good to be true so I never saw him as a real person. He is out of this world too good to be true.
I hate characters that have no flaws. He has no flaws. And therefore, he doesn’t feel real. No one can be this perfect.
**********************************************
4. The story of Lennox and Sutton doesn’t make sense. They have been married for 2 years and they have intimacy problems. Every time he touches her, she flinches. He can’t hug his wife. He can’t kiss her when he wants. He can barely have sex with her a few times a year. She is distant and cold although she loves him very much. She is somehow locked in her mind and she can’t achieve intimacy.
I just couldn’t understand how they got married in the first place. How can you get married to a woman like this, knowing she will be there within your reach but she won’t let you touch her? And when she does, you will feel that she is forcing herself.
And this poor guy loves his wife. Although he feels hurt and sometimes angry, he adores her. He worships her, for God’s sake.
Well, long story short, I couldn’t understand how he managed to love her so much when she pushed him away all the time. Also, I couldn’t understand why he didn’t insist on therapy for two years. Only after 2 years, she agrees to see a therapist.
**********************************************
5. Here’s the ugliest part of the book for me:
I believe that “daddy fantasy” is one of the sickest fantasies I can think of.
If I had known I was going to read about sex scenes where a woman calls her husband “daddy”, I would never have even started this book.
Can you please think of a little girl… a girl at the age of 4? And the poor thing is being molested by an adult… And in the years that follow, her child body is raped by him repeatedly.
Of course, she cannot handle the trauma and resorts to certain ways to cope with it.
Now, can you please tell me… can you please make me understand because I was about to lose my fucking mind over it… can you please tell me how this little girl grows up to be an adult and calls the man she is having sex “daddy”?
Isn’t “daddy” a grown-up man? Isn’t she the victim of a grown-up man? Isn’t she mentally traumatized because of the continuous rapes of a grown-up man? So what is happening now? Does she enjoy it more when she thinks the man she is having sex is someone who is way older than her?
How sick is that?
What was the writer thinking? Writing "60 Shades of Grey" or what?
That was so fucked-up and disgusting. I wanted to vomit every time she called him “daddy”…
You had to be out of your mind to make the victim of a child-abuse to call her lover “daddy” when she grows up and has sex that she enjoys!
**********************************************
6. Also, if, as a child, you were raped at a specific place and position, why would you do the same thing with your husband now? Why repeat the memory? Isn't there anywhere else in the house or any other position?
And it was not what the therapist suggested for her healing. They just did it without thinking about it.
Maybe I am overreacting but it just felt ugly seeing them do it there. I couldn't even read that part properly.
**********************************************
7. And once again, a writer makes me furious by making her heroine pregnant as soon as she can have sex and enjoy it.
Would it kill you, dear writer, to let them have some alone-time to be a real couple who can enjoy each other? Nope, you had to make them parents before they had enough time to be happy lovers. Yayyy, good for you. Happy?
Me? Nope, not happy.
**********************************************
8. Here’s another weird thing:
- There are unbearably painful events in this book. - There is an incredible love of a husband for his wife. - There are a great many sex scenes in this book.
And I felt nothing.
I should have cried at the past memories of the heroine. My heart should have melted when the hero did all those sacrifices for his wife. But nope, the book didn’t make me feel.
I guess I was too bored and too angry to feel anything else.
Obviously, I was too angry with the “daddy” thing. I was appalled, indeed.
And I was too bored because it was excruciatingly long and the writing was dull and too predictable.
**********************************************
Safety:
It is a huge spoiler to know the safety information in a book like this. Think twice before uncovering the spoiler tag.

Here are a few QUOTES from the book
“You’ve never been affectionate and that’s cool with me. While we were dating, it was celibacy and I respected that. You were a woman who wanted to be sure she had something solid before making a commitment. Once I proposed and we finally had sex, I noticed you were always somewhere else. I just figured that’s how you were. Always in your head. Always in your music. I told myself this was marriage with a musical genius. It’s getting harder though, Sutton. You rarely want me to touch you and unless we’re playing music together, I don’t feel intimacy from you.”
***
I spent the entire day thinking about how I pushed him away. Why the hell would he stay with me? Why would any man in their right mind stay with me?
***
No matter how I tried, something inside of me was hidden away. There was something behind a door that I couldn’t unlock no matter how much I wanted to. 3,8. I’m a huge fan this author. Her books are refreshing, sexy, wild and a lot more... I was reading and thinking how much this story was great, but I didn’t like much the female character. I already read a book about this scenario a long time ago, but this didn’t decrease my curiosity...
Lennox was amazing. Everyone woman needs a Lennox in their lives because even after everything he went through with his wife Sutton he really tried to be supportive. Sutton went through too much and couldn't cope. Her parents were really bad at being parents throughout her entire life. Ebony was a disaster but also a blessing in disguise. Really interesting read.
This book is definitely a must read! I was totally blown away by all the twists and turns that happened in this book. I am totally in love with Lennox. He was such a great character. My heart broke for Sutton. I highly recommend this book. I didn’t want it to end. I fell in love with the story and the characters. Can’t wait to read more by this author. She has become a favorite author of mine.
Margot by Danielle James is one of my absolute favorite reads by her! She has the most amazing ability to tell a story and keep you absolutely consumed until the very last word!
Margot is about self-love, standing up for yourself, facing your deepest fears, coming to terms with your past, and fiercely loving all of you and the one(s) that accept you for who you are.
It’s so refreshingly different from anything I’ve read in awhile and just when you thought you had everything figure out, James keeps’ you guessing!
This story still lingers with me. It gave me the best book hanger over, and I couldn’t recover so quickly!
*****
I fell in utter love with Lennox! His unconditional love, total devotion really made me swoon, and understanding made me swoon!
“Sutton was my weak spot. I’d move mountains for that woman even if it meant I’d turn to dust in the process.”
But like most, I understood when his frustrations began to rear it’s ugly head! I began to feel how deep his feelings ran and I couldn’t help but want to give him a huge hug for being so strong and accepting what was going on!
“She was staring at me like I hung the moon. I loved that look. It was bittersweet though. She’d look at me with so much love but it was nearly impossible getting her to translate it in other ways.”
Sutton is one of the strongest heroines I’ve read! She has the most beautiful, talented soul! I found myself constantly inspired by her and her love for music!
“Sutton’s soul was in the piano and because of it she was a beautiful work of music. . .”
At first, I found myself questioning with a lot of whys! Although I understood where she was coming from, I just wanted her to show some type of love towards Lennox in a different way (if you know what I mean) 😉 He deserved it!
“I was the problem. It ate me up inside. I was wrong. I was broken.”
And then, when everything began to unfold... I was mind boggled! Sutton’s anger and frustrations became mine and just like Lennox, I got it! I understood! My heart was with them!! They are so strong, their union! Their love is a love I admired so much! The things they’ve endured individually and as a couple had me rooting for them so hard!
But then Margot came...
“Lennox wasn’t my man to keep but while we were together, he was mine and I needed him just as much as his wife did.”
*****
And trust me when I tell you, go into this blind! Do not read spoiler reviews! Because the minute you think you know what’s going on in this story... Margot will having you scream out loud with your eyes wanting to pop out of its sockets! You thought you knew, but you had no freaking idea!
Danielle James is absolutely brilliant! She is excellent and masterful in her craft! Every word she writes is pure magic and it’s why she’s one of my favorite authors!
The stories that she shares are so different from others, they hold so much depth, the plot along with twists and turns always keep you captivated, and the way she handles tough/heavy subjects are always done so beautifully!
This book!! OMG this book!! I'm still recovering from this hangover this book left me. It has to be my favorite book of the year! When I got it in my hands, I couldn't put it down. Every page I was drawn to and I couldn't stop flippin' the pages. Danielle James knows how to weave her magic with every word she writes and take you along for a story you never saw coming!! I will not give anything away. You have to read this story blind. But I will say Lennox is my new book boyfriend! And he's going to be hard to replace!
This was my first read by this author and I am in awe. I knew when I was 15% in that this book was going to be a five star read. You know the feeling you get when its still early in the book but the story is already becoming part of you and its like you feel the book on a cellular level? Then it dawns on you that this book is about to change your life, make you feel everything, and kidnap you from the real world. Yeah, that was this book.
I’m speechless right now. I didn’t know what to expect when I started this and I went in kind of blind. As I started to peel back the layers of this exceptional story I came up with many theories. Most were wrong, a few were right and even when I was right I was wrong. When I thought one thing was happening the story would take an unexpected twist or turn. The plot was refreshing and took me on an unforgettable journey. I read a lot and I often times forget the names of characters, but when I remember them they become part of me forever. Lenoxx and Sutton are part of me now.
Lenoxx loved Sutton like God loved the church. Baby!!!!!!!!!!! When I say he loved that woman with ev-ery-thing?! He was a whole mood, a whole man. He had no ego, no immaturity, just steadfastness, dependability and the patience of a saint. I can’t say enough about him. Do men like Lenoxx really exist? He was a fairytale but authentic. He was the epitome of unconditional love and it melted my heart.
That's an interesting twist.... that I didn’t saw coming
The thing that I valued most about this novel was how Ms. James made, it seems that this couple was falling apart and that the husband had a wandering eye.
But.....
She created a very twisted tale which include the character's disabilities and conditions. Sutton suffered a medical condition; that was obvious from the start. And I so treasure the fact that although she was definitely showing signs of mental problems it was mentioned but wasn’t solely focused on. This was an splendid example of how characters can have disabilities without it being the center of their story.
Never to disappoint Ms. James writing, impress me. This book was far-out and affectional. I felt like I was wading through a a prism of a genius brain child when I read her novels.
This book had the added bits of child abuse and personality disorder of which was simply well done.
People!! I'm static !! I decided to risk this book, since these authors lately have been so uncreative with the excuses for these pathetic cheaters that I wanted to see if this author would have any valid excuse! Then I began to see my worst nightmares come true! I'm not going to drop spoilers this time, you're going to have to read to see. I loved it!
This book was incredible in its emotions and perspectives. There was a reason for the wall that Sutton had up and I was dying to know it. Lennox was so understanding, and my heart ached for his feelings and disapointments. This book started off so rich and intense. I could already tell right from the beginning that Danielle James is an amazing storyteller. I could barely put the book down in my need to know what was going to happen next. By the end, all I could think about was how brilliantly James had told this amazing story. I cannot wait to read more of her books.
There are no words to tell you how good this book is. I devoured every word from beginning to end. It had twists, turns, and one jaw dropping revelation that left me speechless!! A definite 5 star read!!
Danielle James has done it again!!!!! This book was amazing!!!! And, it was totally not what I expected. It's been a long time since I've felt this way about a book. This story angered me, it sadden me, it made me cry, it also made me smile and laugh. But, most of all i felt a love like I've never felt before. It broke my heart and put it back together. I have to say this is definitely by far one of the best books I've ever read!!!!! Give it a try, I promise you will not be disappointed! 😘
Wow! This book is a must read! I totally didn’t see the twists and turns this book took. I love Lennox! He was a great character. But I felt so much for Sutton. My heart broke for her. I highly recommend this book! *Magic Beyond The Covers Book Blog*
When I first read the synopsis I thought I'd skip this because I don't like reading books with infidelity thrown in. A few FB friends of mine mentioned it on our group page though, and I finally asked about it. She assured me that although it hits some very hard topics, I shouldn't focus on the infidelity and try the book. I'm so glad I did! This was heartbreaking at times, but it was surrounded by a love that is beyond beautiful. When I say that Lennox is everything, I mean he is Everything. No wonder falling for him was so easy. His guilty feelings alone made him that much more loveable. I must admit, I was torn between who I liked more. Everyone brought something different to the table, but in the end, the absolute perfect choice was made. Fantastic, original storyline Ms. James. It's a shame that these things happen in life, but when a story is written this well, it takes a little of the sting away.
Sutton and Lennox’s story was great. I found my self hooked by the 4th chapter and from there the author told a story that was not only beautiful but heart breaking. She gave these characters amazing strength and while doing that.... she made me fall in love with them deeper then I thought I could. This book was a lot more then just a romance novel. This is a story about coming to terms and overcoming your past no matter how hard it is.
This is one of my favorite types of story’s and I will say the author did an amazing job. It was well rounded and sexy, had heart break but also showed the characters strength. I won’t go into details but I loved the romance aspect as well as Sutton overcoming her issues. She was a very strong heroine and rooted for her from the start. 4 stars #2OCCJD
Title: Margot Author: Danielle James Original Rating : 4.5
Review
Phew! This one is shocking to the core, I did not expect the twist, and I am so glad that I don't hav any notion abt the story except the blurb but everything was a canvas. And it blew my mind.
Danielle James as always your a brilliant author, from the characters building, the hot sex scenes oh! ♨️, the touch of Taboo element, the love and passion bet MC's all of it was written flawlessly and the emotion just felt right in context.
No wonder I am giving this one a two thumbs up😊
As well, I'm looking forward in the future to read more of your books!
This book right here is one who need to read. I devoured it in one day. I couldn't put it down. I will definitely be re-reading it. It touched on personal trauma and what some people do to cope and what their loved ones go through to try and help and just be there for them. It was an amazing book. I love the truth and realness in this book. The couple were already married but the book showed how they needed to work on their marriage and themselves and overcome this disorder. It wasn't just an HEA it showed how to work at keeping it and fighting demons to be strong and healthy. I love serious books like these.
Holy crap! This book was excellent! The cover led me to believe I’d just be reading another other-woman-trying-to-take-my-man tripe. Nope, not at all. I won’t give away the plot because that what makes this book so unique. Bravo, Ms. James, bravo 👏!
The book could have used some additional editing and a little more inflection in the conversation between characters, but I really enjoyed this book. I started it at 7:00 am and could not put it down. You kind of guess the reason for the main character’s reactions but could not have gotten it more wrong on the outcome. I’m not going to say more, just read the book!
This book was beyond anything I’ve read. Yes it was about finding oneself, loving yourself and loving your spouse but it touched on a subject that’s not discussed in certain homes and races. I respect Danielle for handling it so beautifully. The love between each characters. Each character had their own personality as well presence. It was easy to fall-in love with them. I’m totally in love with this story. I’m a sucker for Margot lol. I cried when she left. Her last moment with Lennox was incredibly beautiful, yet sad. Darn, I don’t want to give too much away but, This was truly AMAZING.
In Margot, Danielle James not only delivers a smart, sexy, swoon worthy romantic novel, but it also delivers thrills, suspense and a twist you won't see coming. This rollercoaster ride introduces the unforgettable Margot, a highly accomplished concert pianist who suffers from intimacy issues in her marriage. Her fears that her devoted husband will wander grows when they take a vacation to Hawaii. Danielle's talents shine as she takes us into the inner working of a marriage in crisis. It takes both spouses on a journey that transforms them to places which seemed unreachable at the start. 5 Stars.
I've hated and cursed Lennox so much, oh my god you can't even imagine. I've literally marked all the dialogues with my personal opinions which were basically "wtf , omg seriously, how could he!?, I hate him, let me get my knife" etc but damn after reading the whole book, I'd love to have a Lennox in my life.
It's a beautiful story even though the halfway "Daddy" kink was weird and cringey (it's not in every scene, so you can easily skim read those scenes).
Ms. James this is the second book of yours that I have read. You have such a unique way of writing characters who are damaged, but become heroes of heroines. I have to admit that I almost have up on this book, as I was frustrated with Sutton. I am so glad I have it a chance, as it was a wonderful story. Lennox was an angel of angels! How he loved Sutton through all of that was just remarkable. Just beautiful! Great job! 👍
This book was everything I loved getting lost in a book and you don’t know where thee day went I could not put it down at work just hid my phone ..lol I could not put it down in the crowd train nor sleep this was raw and hit home and some topics Ms Danielle you are blessed how I would love to live in you brain how you come with these books and deliver flawlessly Must read
Though it took a few chapters to really catch my interest, once I was invested, the book was great. Excellent plot. I did not see that twist coming at all. I appreciated the mental health aspect and the attention to the value of seeking therapy for mental health issues. Sutton's growth was dope to watch. I enjoyed this read. Took me just over 24 hours.
OMG this book is soooo AWESOME. I could not put this book down once I got started. I am in love with Lennox. The twist that this story takes will have you on the floor and want to break something. I highly recommend this story.
This is a must read!!!! It exceeded my expectations and took a turn that i didn’t see coming. This is what true strength is and what true love can help overcome!!
I have read hundreds of books , but this one got me!!! I didn't see the twist coming and I need to go back an re-read what I missed! I love when an author gives me something new to think about. Ms. James you did not disappoint!!! Keep the good books coming!!!
Wow! Fantastic book! Brilliantly written!! Passionate, sultry and edgy! Battles within, which was conquered by love and understanding! Definitely had the hotness that made it exciting!
A beautiful story of overcoming trauma and finding and living your true self and all the parts that make you whole. I loved Sutton, Margot and Lennox so much.
