1967 September 23rd was the day I was pushed out. My birthplace was Topeka Kansas, but soon after I was born my family moved to Los Angeles, California. I don’t recall much before my third birthday, although from three years old on I remember vividly; a bit of a curse and a gift. But that is all that life is, a collection of memories that make up a man, women, or child’s existence. Like a photo album captures images throughout a person’s life, the mind does the same with every life lesson. The accumulation of prior experiences serves as a guide through life. With every critical life decision past memories are invoked. And at times the line between the past and present can be blurred. Should I go right? Should I go left? Whether right or wrong the choices I made based off the happenings of my life chiseled me to whom I became a monster among men who aspired to instill fear.But was it all on me? Did I have a say in the matter? Was I destined to become a beast, quenching a thirst with destruction and satisfying a hunger with carnage? I just lived what I knew and what I was shown. Steven Jones is currently on death row at San Quentin State Prison in California. He spends his time writing poetry, short stories and fictional novels. His faith in God led him to write about his life in hopes that his truth will help save the lives of others going down the same path.
