It belonged to her. Debra Nowden knew it, and she would walk through hell before she let anyone walk away with what was rightfully hers. After David Cayson, the man she loves, dies, Debra is left without a home to live in or a dime to survive. Deciding that no one will deny her the right to what she is due, not even his wife, Debra sets out on a mission. Armed with the knowledge that David gave her about his family business, Cayson Construction, Debra is poised to get what she wants and possibly provide justice for the 1964 death of a successful Black businessman in Montgomery, Alabama. One family company, two wives, and many lives cross paths in this tale of determination to not only survive but also thrive. Everyone has something to hide, and sometimes it is best just to Let Sleeping Dogs Lie.

This was not a bad read, however the preview was misleading. I thought there would be more on Debra getting what was rightfully hers when her husband died, but this story was more on Willie, I get that you needed the history to understand how this begin but not so much and than the last little bit comes back to Debra. Also the editing of this book was terrible.
It took a lot of blood, sweat and tears to get to the happy ending. The author describes life in Alabama in the sixties, but it seems the only thing that's changed is the subtlety of the injustices. In the end, we're presented with a draft of what's needed right now, and not just in Alabama. Great story with amazing characters that I could visualize and connect with.
This book crossed over from fiction to reality in my mind. This is what is needed right now in Alabama. I cried at just the hope of this. I thought a foundation that assist with home ownership and repairs for people of color was an outlandish fantasy but reading this...whoa
OMG -- this book was so well-written! I could see each scene as it played out -- picture every character (how they looked and sounded), facial expressions and demeanors... I love reading fiction with a touch of history. Can't wait to read another book by this author🤗
Had a little trouble following the story from the past to the present. The jumps seem sudden. Other than that, skilled writing and intriguing story about two women fighting for a dead man's estate. Kept me interested and wondering why there hadn't been many reviews.

Excellent storyline and characters. Moving theme and drawing plot, it held my interest. Moved smoothly from chapter to chapter. Nice happy ending! I'd recommend this to young adults and senior readers, as well.
A very interesting read.Willie was quite a man.A few surprising twists.James stepped up and filled large shoes left by Willie. Will look for other reads by this authors
I love the book. Story was real back in the 1960. The White didn't want black people to have anything but look at GOD. He got us in business and owner.
