When Ranger Security's newest agent Will Forrester is tapped to accompany a priceless South American Fertility Statue from the Smithsonian to Dallas, he's more than mildly surprised at his first assignment. But that surprise is nothing compared to the blast from the past woman who is traveling with it--Mia Hawthorne, the only woman who'd ever managed to rock his world and touch his heart...
I read books with half naked men on the cover as a literary palate cleanser, a refreshing raspberry sorbet of porny goodness between more serious books. This author does the trick admirably.
While heavier on the sex and way lighter in the plot than others in the series, it follows the same formula:
Hawt former military hero with PTSD. Equally sexy female - bonus points for back history between the two. Family issues for one, preferably both, leads. Superficially silly mission for such an amazing hero, but... Really hot fantasies, foreplay, and sex. Lots of sex. ...which means we let the inane plot slide.
Like, seriously, they were guarding a statue they named Moe Dick. And I still read it. Did I mention HOT sex? Compassionate, introspective heroes? An example:
"Stupid, stupid, stupid. This was wrong on so many levels he didn’t even know where to start. In the first place, he was technically working, although considering one of his bosses had tossed him a box of condoms, for crying out loud, before he left, he didn’t think they’d fire him over it. In the second place, this was Mia, the only girl he’d ever been emotionally invested in."
Decent, but the plot seemed weaker than in others in the collection. I'd still read more from this author.
I always enjoy Rhonda Russell's novels. This one was no exception. Easy to read, wonderful charcters, interesting plot and her first line hooks are always attention grabbers.
A nice little romance with a strong hero and believable heroine. Enough spice in the bedroom to keep it interesting while weaving a little mystery and suspense into the plot. All good.
