BEZ I’m most people’s worst nightmare—a man with no conscience who gets off on making people dance like puppets according to my whims. Call me a monster if you want, but when your life is something straight from a horror movie from day one, you do what you can. And what I can do is bend the will of any slack-jawed moron I please with no consequence. A genetic experiment inflicted on me by my psychotic mother gave me persuasive abilities I never asked for but now use to my advantage. And it’s never failed me yet—until a little spitfire with black nail polish and a spicy attitude flips my world upside-down.
NAOMI There’s only one word for someone who takes pleasure in controlling people without remorse: evil. When Bez Luce crashes into my world in a greasy diner, I leave the encounter deeply shaken by his uncanny power over the other customers. And it’s clear that he’s rocked by his failure to make me submit. I want nothing more than never to see him again and forget the soul-piercing stare of his icy blue eyes. But the monster has set his sights on me, and I’m about to find out that Bez gets what he wants—always.
Often paranormal subject matter gives reign to predictions for the future, when ‘paranormal’ becomes ‘normal,’ and that is the postulate of Kelly Weaver’s new book THE DEVIL I KNOW.
Opening the novel with a Prologue that resembles an actual research documentation adds spice and a click to reality to the tale that is to follow. The time, 1989, the subject – Bez Luce as an infant, the research – ‘The result of the search indicate that only one of the twenty infant subjects released by parental contract for the Meerkton Project, Bez Luce, survived the unregulated chromosomal disruption and resulting mutagenesis. Only a short record of his IQ and brain-development data were available, as well as a written communication by Mrs. Luce indicating threat of cease and desist if Dr. Meerkton were to hold Bez for testing past the range of participation indicated in the original project contract. Bez and Sandra Luce’s current locale are, to date, unknown.’
Strange and fascinating opening for a book, the author warns, ‘this story contains some dark subject matter pertaining to suicide, stalking behavior, dubious consent, violence, etc so if you hat any triggers or hesitations, this book may not be the right fit for your taste. Forewarned is Forearmed, and a better entry portal to a paranormal romance could not be more fitting.
Kelly begins her story with a journal entry by the five–year-old Bez that solidifies his mindset. ‘I have a fuzzy memory in my head of mom telling me why I had to be down here all the time and she said if was because I was a devil child.’ And from there the strange dark tale progresses. ‘Bez - I’m most people’s worst nightmare—a man with no conscience who gets off on making people dance like puppets according to my whims. Call me a monster if you want, but when your life is something straight from a horror movie from day one, you do what you can. And what I can do is bend the will of any slack-jawed moron I please with no consequence. This is a fresh start for an author with imagination and the skill to instill it on paper. There will obviously be installments in this series.
The Devil I Know: A Dark Paranormal Romance by Kelly Weaver alternates between Bez and Naomi as they tell their side of their relationship. After his mother experiments with his development, Bez has the ability to manipulate everyone, except Naomi. Because his mother feared him, he had no interaction with people for years, causing him to lack sympathy for others. This is a bad combination. Naomi is still suffering from an abusive boyfriend after four years. She finds she is attracted to Bez, while afraid for her those around her.
After reading The Devil I Know by Kelly Weaver, I still don’t know what to think of it. This is one of those “love to hate it” type books. I loved it, but hated the abusive and domineering attitude of Bez. Naomi’s victim outlook was exhausting, but both of them had horrendous events in their life that made the reader sympathize with them. The characters’ bizarre past cause them to be unpredictable, making this a novel with many twists. Read to make your own decision.
The Devil I Know by Kelly Weaver starts out on an interesting note of genetic engineering, and the premise of something gone horribly wrong begins. Bez is a young boy in the beginning of the book, and seems to be hidden away from society, due to his being evil, according to his mother. From there we go on to meet Naomi, a young college sorority sister with a major in Psychology. Several years go by and we meet up again with these two main characters, their lives taking diverse directions. Bez is arrogant, uses women, and is inherently evil. Naomi is simply struggling with life in general after college. When these two meet, sparks fly, and the book reveals its twits and turns in a rapid fire way. This is a somewhat humorous attempt to combine romance with an evil twist. Naomi was a quite well written character initially, one that many could relate to, but that seemed to change as the book progressed. Bez is totally unlikable with few redeeming qualities, but if you like arrogance, he is a lot of fun to read about. A fun, if sometimes confusing read.
This is probably one of the most powerful books I’ve ever read. Minutes after finishing, I’m still sitting here in a kind of emotionless shock.
There are a lot of dark themes touched on and the multi-perspectives from the MC and the FMC really gives the book a twisted edge.
The end of the book leaves the readers with a multitude of questions, which I find surprisingly effective. Kelly Weaver has managed to drop the readers into these two people’s lives effortlessly - dragging us through ever emotion whilst surrounded with a hazy confusion of the events.
Although there were a few chapters I would have liked shortened or maybe simplified so that there was better context, it is well worth the insight given into the mind of the MC Bez and his seemingly lack of moral understanding.
I would definitely recommend this dark, twisted romance - although I regret reading at such a quick pace - this is one of those books that needs some time to ponder while it is read in slow increments.
This is my 1st read and review for this author I bought this book awhile ago but I didn’t have a chance to read it until now and it’s an interesting story and I enjoyed it so if you’re the kind of person that likes dark paranormal romance with horror then this is the book for you. Bez was kept hidden as a child by his mother she called him evil and she was scared of him, being kept away from people gave him the attitude as an adult to not feel sympathy for anyone so he used people like puppets and he’s very arrogant. When Bez and Naomi meet up there’s an instant attraction but Naomi doesn’t like it when Bez manipulates people and Bez is dumbfounded when he can’t manipulate Naomi. This is a pretty dark story a roller coaster ride with twists and turns but I enjoyed it and I recommend this book.
I really loved this book! Kelly Weaver has a great way of building a detailed image in your mind from the visuals to the emotions of every scenario that’s played out in the book. The antagonist is the type that you just love to hate, but the writer somehow also makes you sympathize so much for him. He’s evil, but it’s not totally his fault. Same with the protagonist. She’s broken & victimy, but then you understand why and you feel for her a lot. Each character keeps your emotions cycling as you learn more about them. I appreciated how they bounced between predictable behavior and very unpredictable behavior. It made for the perfect read. I found myself thinking about the story for a while after I finished it too. That’s how I know It was a good book. I’m definitely reading more of this writers books. Love her style.
This is a dark book that has some twists in it that had me page turning. The two main characters had some interesting chemistry at times and the plot was easy to follow but did not always go the way I expected it to. It was a good book and a good introduction to a new series, I look forward to seeing where the author goes from here with this series.

Dark- Emotional! As the name suggests the story is on the darker side with twists of romance, abundance of emotions and twisted characters and plot. This is definitely not a light read, there is suspense and horror angle that could be of interest to folks. Bez, a man with no conscience and victim of genetic experiment and Naomi, evil without remorse and when Bez and Naomi cross paths each other, story take twists and takes the reader to a roller coaster ride. Good attempt by the author!
Talk about completely jacked up - Bez met the end he deserved, but I would be lying if I say that I wanted something good to happen for him. A tragic life meeting a tragic end.
However, that helped Naomi be able to jump start from her own tragedy - although, I have to wonder how many more messed up relationships are in her future. I really did believe she might pull the gun to her own head at the end, I am truly glad she didn't.
The Devil I Know: A Dark Paranormal Romance by Kelly Weaver is a wonderful story I read by a brand new author for me. This is a dark romance, general horror and if you all like reading about these then this story is highly recommend for you.

At first, I didn’t think I would get into it. But it was a “cant put the book down” from start to finish. I did like the details that went into the writing. As this is my first time reading a book from Kelly Weaver, it was by far an amazing experience. Thank you for such an amazing storyline.

Wow! I enjoyed parts of this book, but I did not enjoy the ending. There was a lot of heartbreaking things that occurred that left me feeling somewhat hollow. It’s hard to get vested in a character and then suddenly it ends in a way you did not want it to. I can only give three stars because of my disappointment. Writing and character development were good.
The Devil I Know: A Dark Paranormal Romance by Kelly Weaver is the story of Bez- who had genetic alterations as an infant, and Naomi- whom Bez cannot control. The story is a dark one, with elements of horror. I loved it!

Filled with triggers. Naomi and Bex are damaged people. Bex has the power to control people in but he discovers he cannot control Naomi. Naomi is traumatized by an incident with an ex-boyfriend. Bex had a horrible childhood. This is the darkest romance I've ever read.
Book one in the Dark Mutants series and this book was very dark it is not the kind of story I would normally read. Somehow I just could not get into it. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Naomi lived a boring life after the death of her boyfriend. But she did self medicate to make the pain go away. That is until Bez walks into the dinner she's eating at and changes get whole world
This book covers the life and struggle of Naomi and Bez. Bez is a has an ability to make people do whatever he wants. His story is sad to say the least. He just wants to be loved!
As an infant, Bez was apart of a genetic experiment gone wrong. The experiment gave him persuasive abilities, making people into his puppets. His mother, who was fearful of him, hid him away from society. As an adult, Bez can have anything and everything he could ever want. He is an arrogant womanizer, and has absolutely no conscience. Then he meets Naomi, the only person he can't control. Naomi is currently struggling with her life and is self medicating herself. She feels broken and finds nothing positive in life. When Naomi and Bez met there was an instant attraction, but she soon found out what true evil is. Bez is determined to have Naomi submit with her own free will.
This is a dark read with predictable, and unpredictable twists. It was a strange but fascinating story. It keeps you completely captivated while learning every detail of their traumatic lives. I wanted to sympathize with Bez and Naomi. They each suffered something horrendous to shape them. Naomi was extremely relatable and I wanted to hate Bez. Then Bez would do something so out of character that made me want to like him. Between their best and worst qualities, it made them the most imperfectly perfect match. Don't expect a happy ending with this one.
