Dirtshine #2

Always You

Rate this book
This could ruin everything.

I was born broken, with a past full of ugly secrets and a brother doing life in prison.

Not that you’d know it if you read the tabloids. According to them I’m the rock-solid guitarist for the biggest band in the world. I’m the dependable one. The steady one. The anchor.

They don’t know the truth. No one knows who I am underneath, once the music is over and the lights are off.

No one but Darcy.

She’s my best friend. She’s my f*cking savior, my light in the dark, beautiful as hell and talented as f*ck and every bit as broken as me.

And I f*cking yearn for her. I have for years. I see the way she looks at me, what’s behind her eyes.

I know what she thinks about alone, in the dark, because how could I not know.

It’s getting worse. Every second, every heartbeat, every moment we spend together and every secret we share makes me want her more. Even though I know that one kiss could ruin everything we have, I need her.

But to get her? I’ll risk everything I’ve got.

Always You is a completely standalone, full-length novel that’s Book Two of the Dirtshine series.

Darcy and Trent are one of those couples that I love to read about. They're both damaged but survivors. They've had tough childhoods and just as tough of a time as adults. I just want to root for them and then cry like a baby when they get their happily ever after. I love when a person sees the damage in someone and loves them anyway. This is Darcy and Trent. I do wish I had read book 1 first. I feel like I missed out on some of their beginning but it did not hamper my love for these two. Another fabulous read from Rixie Noir. ARC provided by author.

OMG! I absolutely love Darcy and Trent! This couple are everything I ever hope to find in a romance book!

Trent has wanted Darcy for a long time. The only thing that has kept him from stepping over the line is the fact that she’s his best friend. The person he has shared all of his nightmarish history with. She knows all about the struggles he’s had and the demons he faces regularly, especially those within his family.

Darcy has wanted Trent just as long. The only thing keeping her from making that move is the fact that he is the one person who knows everything about her. All of her loneliness and horror growing up without family or love.

If they take that one step they might lose it all.

But when a current nightmare erupts during a show, things between them begin to ratchet up which eventually leads to them both stepping across the line and embracing a new relationship.

I can’t express how much this couple’s dynamic satisfied me. Darcy is snarky and tough, a result of her upbringing. Trent is quiet and sullen with a tendency to lose his temper and a fear of what he might become. Together they bring each other peace, joy, friendship, humor and solace in their otherwise chaotic world.

I’m going to need more of this couple and I may get the chance to see them again if this author writes Liam’s story. (Hint, hint)

A review copy was provided by the author. This is my HONEST opinion.

I recently fell in love with the first book in this series, and with this book my personal romance with Roxie Noir continues. (Never Enough, the first in the series, was also first read from this author, and after reading this it looks like Roxie Noir has made it to my very short favorite romance writers list.)

We met the two stars of this story, Trent and Darcy, in the last book. Marisol tells Gavin that these two "best friends" are hot for one another, and he insists they are just friends, and that is how we know they get the next book. I am a particular fan of the friends to lovers trope in romance, and watching these two come together after years of supporting and caring for one another is so lovely. Trent and Darcy are both broken. Trent grew up with a brutally abusive father. He has two felony convictions under his belt, a brother in prison for murder, and a mother who requires round-the-clock care due to head injuries inflicted by her abusive spouse. He is now the guitarist for Dirtshine, a hugely popular band, and is responsible for taking care of his brother and mother. Darcy is Dirtshine's bass player. She grew up in a series of foster homes, and has no family at all. She ran away from a foster home where others were sexually abused and she desperately worked to blend into the scenery to keep herself safe. She ran away as a young teen and was homeless for years. Plenty of trauma to go around, and these two know how to support one another almost instinctively, and how to make the other happy. They are so good together, and their need for the safe harbor they find in one another makes it totally understandable that they are terrified to rock the boat and risk losing one another by becoming involved. The issue is exacerbated by the fact that they are in the same band, their music is their joy and their livlihood, and we all know what a bad idea interband romance is! (Side note: in the 80's there was a soul singer named Terrence Trent D'Arby, and every time I saw these two characters names together I thought of him -- luckily I don't think I know a single song from him, just the name, so no earworms.) These two are so delightful together, so brash, raunchy, funny, sweet and supportive, it is impossible to not root for them. Also, the third act hurdle these two face (it is romance, there is always a 3rd act hurdle) is surprisingly unique and effective. It is set up well, but I never guessed at what would happen. I really liked it a lot. Everyone's behavior made sense as did the resolution.

All in all a great second book in the series. The steam level of this one is a little below the last but it is still very sexy. I rarely jump from book to book, and I have two romances demanding immediate attention, but I am pretty sure I will listen to the final book in the series (Ever After -- Liam's story!) very soon and expect I will soon move to other series from the author. It is a pleasure getting to know Madame Noir.

A question people ask themselves when looking at reviews is:

Is this going to be a good book? and Should I read this?

Well, here's my answer for you...

This book sucked. And now I'm not one to bash a book. Go and check my rating average. It's like damn near the highest it can be at 4.22. Obviously I love/like almost every book I've read. I've only 1 stared five books in my entire time on Goodreads. And two of those one star reviews are stupid YA holiday books. This will be my sixth one star. I always try to find the good in a book. And usually a smutty book can get at least two stars because of the smut.

But this book. My gosh, it was awful. There was absolutely no storyline. None at all. The female MC, Darcy, gets burned in the beginning of the book and that causes the band's tour to get pushed back and during her recovery time absolutely NOTHING happens. Nothing at all. You don't even get smut between Darcy and Trent until a little over halfway through. And it wasn't even that good.

About 75% - 80% you finally start getting something from the story. But by that point you just don't care. And man, I seriously did not give a single fuck about this book or the characters.

And the author feels it necessary it italicize AT LEAST one word per page. And sometimes the words that are italicized don't need to be because it makes zero fucking sense. WHY!

Gosh, I'm done now. This book was a waste of time and so was this stupid review because it just made me mad all over again. -.- Lol.

After enjoying the first book (Never enough) in this series very much, I was looking forward to this story and the writer Roxie Noir didn’t disappoint me. I enjoyed this book just as much as the first one.
(I think it’s possible to read this story without reading the first book but to fully understand the background of the band I would suggest that you read ‘Never enough’ first.)

‘Always you’ is about Trent and Darcy, they aren’t only best friends but they are also both members of ‘Dirtshine’. Just like any other band, their band had his ups and downs but during everything they always had each other back. But their friendship does have one downside because slowly both have develop feelings for each other but the last thing that they want is to lose their friendship. Their friendship is very important to both.

Both Trent and Darcy had a difficult childhood, Trent grew up with an abusive father and Darcy grew up in foster care. Both find it hard to trust people or to let people in their hearts but that’s not the case with each other. Through the years, they have shared their deepest secrets with each other, they supported the other when needed to lose all that is totally unbearable to them. But sometimes fate has a way of intervening and it does the night that Darcy gets hurt during their live performance. Trent is there to help her and he stays with her during the recovery time. While spending weeks together in a small town where there isn’t much to do, it’s getting harder and harder for them to denied their feelings for each other. And then one night they let their feelings go and it’s wonderful and for a while everything is great but life isn’t easy.
When tragedy strikes in Trent’s life, can Darcy be there for him? And will Trent let her? Or should they never have crossed that line between friendship and love?!

Just like in ‘Never enough’ the story is told from both POV’s. I like that very much. Although there are some ‘sensitive’ themes mentioned in the book, I didn’t find it a dark book. The writer has a special way of writing what makes that this series is a mix of everything, Darcy is this sassy, bad mouthing, tough girl but still a loyal friend and Trent is this silent guy who hides an explosive temper but who also can be very gentle with the right person. Both had their faults but they were just perfect for each other.

I like the story very much and I’m looking forward to reading more books of Roxie Noir.

This is the second book in the Dirtshine series and I wanted to read it after reading and enjoying Never Enough. This series is about a rock band going through tough times. The hero and heroine of this one are Trent, a guitarist for the band and Darcy, the base player. One would think they are the normal one as the other two members, Gavin and Liam were shattered by drug abuse. Gavin has kicked his habit and is the hero of the first book whereas Liam, as far as we know, is still using.

But Trent and Darcy aren’t really that normal. They are in love with each other but it’s unspoken as they are also best friends and neither wants to screw up the friendship. Neither of the come from a good home. Trent in particular has it tough. His mother is an addict and his younger brother is in prison and bitter and resentful as hell. Trent is torn. He hates how his younger bother always plays the victim, but he also feels guilty that he left his brother in a tough situation.

And Darcy grew up in the system and has never really belonged anywhere until she joined the band Dirtshine. But this is a romance so you can guess that they cross that step. The book deals with the fall out and where they go now as well as the struggle of working in a still hurting band.

I thought this book was great too though just a teeny tiny bit less than Never Enough. But I still have no problem recommending this one at all. I am so enjoying this newly discovered author and of course coming up is the final book in the series, Ever After.

"Fire Extinguishers"
An exceptional read from an exceptional an unique romance master writer.
No matter what is happening in my life or my "book life", I always make time to read the new releases from Roxie Noir. In doing so, I am always rewarded with a lovely, down to earth and yet "stuff of the stars" romance that lives in mind long after the reading is done. This book was utterly amazing!!! and no exception. This is Roxie Noir reaching another level with her unique voice and authentic emotional romantic portrayals.
The characters, Darcy and Trent, are rock musicians and in this read I could hear the music in the writing. Ohhhh! I love that!!!
In this backdrop of the rock world, the band, "Dirtshine" and their recent rise to super fame, Darcy and Trent have been long-time "besties".
The reader is able to sense the complex and rising temperature of the chemistry happening between Darcy and Trent. Do they dare risk their easy going BFF relationship for something more?
After an incident on stage in which Darcy is hurt badly, Trent needs to tend to her wounds and we feel his desire for Darcy barely held in check. He does not know how Darcy feels much the same way. There is an exciting and believable rise in tension that has the readers heart on tether hooks!
To complicate matters both, Darcy and Trent, are damaged and therefore emotionally flawed in a real relate-able way. (Is it not true that we all are emotionally flawed in some way?) Their respective background causes Darcy to be emotionally distant and afraid of abandonment and Trent to be haunted by an explosive rage disorder. Valiantly they both try for each other...try to soothe each other...listen to each other...try to save each other and ultimately love each other in all ways. Of course being all to human, heartbreaking mistakes are made which adds depth to these characters and the story told. After all, rage burns hot...and...fear is a fever.
"He puts out my fires — literally — and I put out his, and it’s the way it’s been for a long time and the way it’s going to be." - Darcy
Along with this heady emotional tension is some spot on, absolutely delightful, LMAO moments. And don't get me started on the earthy, sexy, pulse-pounding hot, hawt, hot erotic love scenes. Again Ms. Noir has an unique voice when it comes to crafting these beautiful and moving vignettes. All the "shivers"...all the "feels". My my my...
All in all, "Always You" is the "real deal" and everything a reader asks for from a life-enriching romance.

Darcy and Trent's story

We resume Dirtshine (the band's) tour in this book. And in the opening chapter we meet a chaotic pyrotechnics grad who seems to be not very good at what he does. Fast forward to the band on stage, when fireworks go off and light up the back of Darcy's hair and back. It's Trent to the rescue, helping her smother the flames.

After Darcy's stay in the hospital, they are stuck in the small city they performed in for at least 3 weeks while Darcy heals. In this time, Trent offers to stay with her to help with her bandages and to be a friend to her.

During the book, we learn of Darcy's rough upbringing and how she had been abandoned as a child and was raised in the foster system. We also learn of Trent and his childhood abuse and his physical and mental scars and baggage because of that.

Through a number of incidences, the past brings them together, and they are able to work together to form a unique and adorable bond, relying on each other and healing each other from physical and emotional trauma.

I liked a lot of the themes in this book, including the hurt/comfort and the found family aspect of it. I love how tender Trent was with Darcy, and how matter of fact Darcy was with Trent. And how she shows up for him when literally no one else does. They are super cute, and I am (fingers crossed) hoping book three will be about the drummer!

P.s. by now you might have realized that I never read the Synopsis of any books, I always go in blind! I love the surprise of it all! I also never read the content warnings 🫣 but I am already scarred and jaded ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Trent & Darcy are best friends. Trent is in love with Darcy and Darcy is in love with Trent but neither will give into their feelings for fear of losing their close friendship.

When Trent can't take it anymore he loses control and Darcy is too scared to tell him the truth. Now they must figure out how to go back to how they were before Trent lost his cool. But do they really want that.

Darcy has to admit her feelings to Trent and they take a chance on a romantic relationship and there is no going back now.

Darcy and Trent's friendship is fun, silly, sweet & loving. It makes them a good couple after knowing so much about each other. Their hearts belonged to one another anyway might as well get your body on board with it too.

This is another great addition to this series. Trent and Darcy have been friends forever. Both secretly have feelings for each other, but neither want to ruin the friendship they have. Trent and Darcy both have had a bad childhood, they share everything about their lives and have no secrets (other than their feelings for each other).

But when tragedy stricks both of them in different ways they both let their feelings come forward. But will it be a mistake or the best thing that ever happened?

This book is told in both POV, which is wonderful. I do love this story and of course seeing all the old characters.

Who loves Dirtshine? This girl! Like if they made band shirts for book bands, I would totally rock one.

So, this is a friends to lovers, with layers. It's book two in a series, you can read it as a standalone, but then totally go back and read book one. This is told in both Darcy and Trent's point of view with a happy ending and I super hope for another book involving this band, though I don't know what that would look like.

Darcy is classic super rocker chick- very cool and I love the things she says and does. Trent is gruff and rough around the edges. They have been bff forever but wanting more. I loved watching that unfold. A very serious story with some heavy stuff going on, mixed with some great humorous moments to lighten it all. Give me more Dirtshine!

I received an arc of this.

This is a great story that really connected to me. Trent and Darcy struggle with a lot of pain in their lives and have relied on each other for support. They both want more but are afraid to take the risk until they are pushed together by circumstances beyond their control. The characters are really well developed and I enjoyed seeing their relationship develop. It is very well written and a great romance.

I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received.

As a fan of rockstar romances I was immediately drawn to this tale of friends-to-lovers. From its immensely appealing main characters to its premise of overcoming past pains, it was a story that kept me turning the pages furiously to see if rockers Dirtshine could overcome their rocky past to climb back to the top of the charts.

After two of their bandmates got caught up in the world of drugs with the death of a roadie the result, the rock band Dirtshine was left reeling. Their drummer Liam walked away, but Gavin got clean with the support of a good woman, which left Trent and Darcy trying to hold everything together. Things get off to a rocky start this tour though when their new drummer leaves amidst harsh words and after pointing out what’s obvious...that Trent loves Darcy. It’s a truth that changes a friendship and could alter their band too if they let it. Both Darcy and Trent had rough childhoods which have left their mark. For Darcy it was being left to the whims of the foster care system which has left her fearing the loss of the family she’s found with her bandmates along with a hardened heart. Trent’s past was filled with violence from an alcoholic father which drove his brother towards a life of crime while leaving him fearing his own anger as he never wants to hurt those he cares about the most. It was their mutually painful pasts that brought them together as friends and it’s an on-stage accident that has their feelings taking a more romantic turn. It’s a battle that Darcy wages against the truth of her feelings for Trent while the only battle he’s waging is against years of abuse he fears will emerge. It’s a sensual journey that nicely balanced their still important friendship with scorching encounters. It was a romance weighed down by her inability to know how to be in a romantic relationship and his past coming back to haunt him in a tearful look into the fall-out from his childhood. Toether they were a formidable pair who withstood everything life threw at them to reach a HEA that left me cheering.

Though this is the second installment in the Dirtshine series it stands strongly on its own with its likable characters and sweet and sexy romance. The ups and downs of the rockstar world are on vivid display here in scenes on and off stage that had my pulse pounding with the beat. Darcy was a strong-willed young woman unafraid to tell it like it is. She’s protective of her bandmates as they’ve become a family to her and felt defensive when their new drummer didn’t work out. She doesn’t do well with change and it’s why she’s fought her true feelings for Trent for so long. Trent’s a delicious hero who’s always been drawn to Darcy and through each word and deed shows how much he cares for her. Their friendship was sweet with interactions that were heartwarming. Their evolution into lovers felt natural because of this close-knit friendship and it was Trent who finally took the initiative in a scene that was worth the wait. He too sees Dirtshine as his family as his own was very dysfunctional in flashbacks that broke my heart and had me admiring him all the more for all he had to deal with as a youth. He and Darcy are delightful together and I enjoyed their journey to HEA despite the odds keeping them apart and a story that went on a bit too long. Along with watching the flourishing romance of this appealing main couple I also enjoyed seeing Gavin’s continuing recovery and his evolution from drug-addicted screw-up to a true leader of their band. He’s grown older and wiser and with his bombshell reveal of Liam’s upcoming return I have no doubt lots of hurt feelings will result in a story I’m heartily looking forward to.

Great book! It was sweet and seductive. Two broken people with one common passion, music. A very close friendship taken to the next level. Darcy has been bounced around her whole life. The only constant that she has ever had was going from foster home to foster home. Somehow surviving. Trent grew up in an abusive home. Somehow survived and got out of "dodge". Somehow these two damaged people thrive and succeed in a band called Dirtshine. They quickly become best friends. can their friendship survive if they take to the next level? Can they survive if they don't? I voluntarily read and reviewed this Advanced Readers Copy.

LOVE THESE DIRTSHINE BOOKS!

This is the 2nd Dirtshine book and it was Darcy and Trent's story. They are two members of the Dirtshine Band and have been best friends for several years. They are both attracted to each other, but have no idea the other feels the same. Their biggest fear holding them back, however, is that if things don't work out, it will be weird between them and they will jeopardize their friendship.

The friendship to lovers trope is one of my favorites and Roxie does a fantastic job portraying the slow sizzle between these two. As the heat builds up, so does the sexual tension until it can no longer be contained. The passion between Trent and Darcy is so HOT! And they were so cute together, my heart melted along with Darcy's.

But life intrudes on the little bubble of happiness they cocooned themselves in. Both Darcy and Trent have had a rough childhood and had insurmountable odds to overcome to get to where they are now. But it wasn't without a price and the past injects itself into their private bubble causing heartbreak and chaos.

This is a story about heartbreak and survival. Of broken families and healing relationships. Of forgiveness and family. That family isn't only blood, but hearts. About redemption and overcoming more than you ever thought you could. Of having more than you ever deserved.

The Dirtshine Books are related stories and when read in order, do have some of the characters from each book having recurring roles. However, they are standalone books with a HEA and can be read separately and in any order. I recommend this book, so far this one is my favorite. You will be a Rockstar Groupie before you know it!

Roxie Noir will always be known for her ability to grab a reader, introducing them to these amazing characters and fully immerse the reader in their world. This was another outstanding example of her amazing writing ability.

This is a friend’s to lover’s story and has so much depth and heart that I was still buzzing from it the next morning. Trent and Darcy have been best friends and fellow band mates for years. They have developed an amazing relationship of honesty, harmony, passion, and humor. They fit together, tell each other everything, and are bound to be together. As a reader, you can feel the intimate moments they share, be it a fun loving conversation or a look from across the stage.

This story has everything that a reader needs to fall in love with the characters. It has heart: loving relationship between to people who have struggled throughout their entire loves. It has torment: in the form of dealing with family members who do not necessarily want love or help and the emotional toll that takes on a person. It has humor: I mean it is a Roxie Noir novel, enough said. It has heartbreak: as one learns that you cannot save everyone, and that just because there is outrage doesn’t mean that love is over.

If you as a reader are on the fence about this story, I strongly encourage you to take a chance; it is an amazing story and will hit all of your ‘buttons.” If you have never read a Roxie story before, get ready for a great ride. This story will become the gateway to your new author addiction. It is worth it, I assure you. I received an ARC and am leaving a voluntary review.

Awesome book! You are going to love it- seriously!
First of All this is the second in a series and it is very beneficial if you read book #1 which is "Never Enough" first. I hate reading a series out of order and not realizing it. The author introduces Trent and Darcy in Book 1 and it is a great set up into this book. "never enough" is equally as good as this one, so you will not be disappointed. This is a great book #2 in the series. I love seeing Gavin from book 1 and the cast of characters as time goes by.

This is an awesome friends to lovers romance. I love the banter between Trent and Darcy. The author really makes you fall in love with each of the characters and them as friends. Trent and Darcy are in a band together. They both have troubled pasts and have a shared understanding of each other and what each has been through. Trent knows more about Darcy than anyone else and vice versa. Of course they each are harboring this deep love/lust for the other. The relationship evolves over the course of the book.
I love the characters "voices" in the book (I hope that makes sense). Darcy is blunt and honest, tough and headstrong but vulnerable and unsure too. She would be a great friend to hang out with and she will tell you like it is. Trent is quiet and thoughtful, broody and sexy, definitely a strong defender of his friends and Darcy especially. The book is told from a dual point of view.
It is a story that I really enjoyed reading. The author will have you rooting for the couple as well as each individual.

I received a free advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review of the book.

Always you By the very talented Roxy Noir is book #2 in the Dirtshine romance series . This also happens to be one of my very favorite Tropes in romance ( rockstar romances ) After reading book 1 never enough which I could not get enough of , I was so excited to see there was going to be a second book .I enjoyed this book just as much as the first one .this can be read as a stand alone , but in order to fully understand the history of the band I suggest starting with the first book .
Always you is the story of Trent and Darcy . They are not only best friends but they are also both part of the DirtShine band . Like most bands there see many ups aka downs , but through it all they always have each other’s backs . Over time their friendship becomes a lot more complicated as they start to feel romantic feeling towards one another , which not only affects their friendship but the band as well . Each is dealing with difficulties from their child hood and just as always they are there supporting one another no questions asked . One night during a live performance Darcy gets hurt and Trent stays with her for a few weeks to help her heal .. During this time their feeling grow and the bond they have becomes even stronger. Each realizing they are falling for each other .Not long after Tragedy strikes in Trents life and Darcy is there supporting him as always . I genuinely loved this book so much . The angst , the slow burn , watching their relationship grow over time . This is the perfect example of how friendship can grow into love , and sometimes you don’t realize the person you meant to be with is right in front of you . ❤️💜

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibraian – I Dig Good Books

Sweetness overload! This story is one of those that will cheering for love from the get go. It's one of friendship and one of a deep, soul bearing type of love. Be ready, it's a great one!

Another great story by the author. These characters' history is a bit different than the first book. Their histories have scars and nightmares. They have soul crushing moments. It's a different type of darkness. It's one that happens more often than we care to think or realize.

The strength of these characters is immeasurable. They have been through mental battles, physical battles, and verbal batters. There is a friendship bond that is absolutely unbreakable. They have the type of friendship most people dream of.

This book had me mumbling or yelling at the characters a bit more than I'd like to admit. The characters were frustrating - but I wouldn't have wanted it any different. It kept the story flowing, it's kept things interesting, and kept things fresh.

It was great to read about this cast of characters again. They all have such a fierce bond with each other that the series wouldn't be what it is without them.

Another great story. It's well written, details and descriptions are great, and the story line flows smoothly. I'd definitely recommend this story, but only after you've read book one, Never Enough.

*A Copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

* Sniffs* Sighs* * Closes eyes take deep cleansing breaths*

Sorry, What?
Oh, No don't mind me!
I am just laying here on the floor- reveling in the Trent & Darcy's story...
I'm not ready to come down from that heart-wrenching love fest!

Yeah, so if it is not evident already HOLY MOTHER OF FICTION- I am all about this book!
AHH! I am an excited ball of emotional nuttiness as I write this!
Here is the deal- I am a big fan of Roxie Noir, she has a hellaciously unique style with humor that I really like and writes some HOT scenes! These "Rockstar" books are my jam. (shh don' tell my kids I said that)
Always you, in my opinion, is the perfect mash up of ripping your heart out angst, love me tender, love me now, some hot scenes a meat thermometer would register as WELL DONE. Humor mixed in all of the messiness that is just right. Throw in a plot twister and "ROCK" solid storyline, and you have a magnificent story that left me babbling in a review!
Seriously, folks- this is a one clicker
I cannot wait to see what happens next!

** Side note**
Because I care, I do suggest not falling asleep while reading this if you're prone to vivid dreams... I had the oddest dream about Edward Scissorhands being up on stage singing with Bon Jovi, but he couldn't hold the mic because of his hands, so they decided to find stuff to watch on Pay Per View back at the hotel. Weird right?!

Trent lived in abusive home with his mother and little brother. Darcy has been his best friend for years. She's there when his past comes to haunt him in his dreams; she's there when his anger gets the best of him. She's his peace in the midst of the chaos.

Darcy is a foster kid. Trent is the one person she's let in completely. He's one of the first to genuinely care about her, to want her in his life. They've shared secrets with each other that no one else knows. They've witnessed darkness together and have been each others support through it all.

For years they have been fighting the temptation to be something more. When they decide to give, they worry if the consequences are worth it. What would happen to their friendship and the band if they don't work out? Can they ignore their feelings and be unhappy apart?

If you're looking for a rock star romance, that plot line is secondary. I haven't read book 1, so I could be wrong, but reading in order could be beneficial in understanding the history of the band. The members have had some rough years, and they're trying to get Dirtshine to a good place. Gavin's life is finally on track (Book 1), but know Trent's world is being turned upside down.

Always You is moderately paced with real life drama, not the soap opera stuff. The story is a sweet romance about friendship, life, and love. I definitely recommend trying the series.

Well written, but with a few gripes.

1) This book has a lot of blurring the lines between being in love with someone, and wanting to fuck them. Those aren't the same things. Not saying there shouldn't be both, just that you shouldn't conflate those two things.

2) There is a plot, but much of it is just anticipation around when these MCs are going to rip the band-aid off and smooch. Then, when they do, the plot shifts to being trepidation about how things might change now that they're sleeping together. A big pet peeve of mine is anytime most of the plot can be avoided if the characters would just talk to each other with their grown up words.

3) In an intensely first-person, multi-POV story, character voice is important. This is especially true when almost all the story conflict is internal conflict. I frequently forgot who was speaking and had to go look, and both MCs had pretty much the exact same internal conflict, which didn't help.

THAT SAID... Trent and Darcy are a cute couple. The author writes internal conflict very well, and I am a bassist myself, so I took to Darcy right away. It was fun to read, even if it did make me want to scream at the MCs.

Final note: Something led me to believe this was a stand-alone story before I read it, but that's not true. You get all of Gavin's character development in Dirtshine #1, and I suspect some of the band's development is there as well. Lesson learned: if the books are numbered, read them in that order.

HEART-MELTING SIZZLING ROMANCE

Trent is buffed and gorgeous and Darcy is a sassy beauty; both are guitarists in the Dirtshine band. They each have haunting gut-wrenching pasts that will certainly pull your heart strings. As best friends they know most of their secrets, have fun together, and support each other when devastating things occur. On one of their performance nights, Darcy is set on fire by accident and their relationship starts to turn slowly when Trent has to change her burn bandages daily. Passionate desires swirl in their hearts but they fail to act upon these feelings in fear of ruining their fabulous friendship.

Adored this fantastic up lifting melts your heart story. Flirtatious innuendos, a bit of action, drama, dynamic vivid scene descriptions, and steamy sensuous romance have you anxiously turning pages to see what happens next. Their romance is definitely genuine and their love shines in this story. It was fabulous to see how best friends can turn around their relationship and soothe each other's soul totally devoted to each other. The author shows that you should follow your heart and not conceal your feelings when it comes to love. If you treasure best friend/rock star romances this is definitely a great book for your library. I loved this book so much {I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy.} Without reservations, I recommend this book.
