"Carter" is the second book in the HC Heroes series, and I must say that I am falling in love with this spin off. There sure are some sexy, protective, alpha males living in Harland County, and one of those is Carter Sharp, who happens to be working with his former Delta brothers as a security expert. Well he has always been attracted to his sisters best friend, Mel Richardson and as luck would have it he has to be her protection for a while. Now, Mel she is an independent, sassy, feisty and sexy tattoo artist and animal lover. She just doesn't want to get close to anyone, in her experience when she loves someone they die, not gonna let that happen anymore.
This book is filled with romance, suspense, passion, humor and friends, Be warned once you start reading it you will not want to put it down.
Five "hummingbird stars" for this one, and I am waiting anxiously for the next book in this series!!

Sometimes a book release falls through the cracks and life goes by not knowing what I was missing. That is what happened with Carter. I have been reading the Harland County books and the spin offs for years, devouring them as soon as possible after their release. So I must ask myself, "How did I blow it?"
I blew it by being too busy. I blew it by not paying attention. I blew it by not paying attention to the back of the previous book. Thankfully, Carter blew into my life today. He teased me. He scared me. He made me smile. He had me squealing in delight. He fell for a wonderful woman, Melanie (Mel) whose life was more screwed up than his and about to get worse.
I loved the push - pull of their relationship. The temperature gauge on the relationship was broken. It ran hot and cold. Warm and chilly. Conflict and fear made this a great romantic read.

A steamy best friend's brother, fear of loss romance with sizzling a attraction, the struggle to overcome phobias, the suspense of a stalker, a well meaning but interfering close group of friends, hints regarding a sequel with a new troubled romance, and a happy ending.

I really liked this book. The two leads were very relatable.
Carter was sick of being the fixer in a relationship. He would help someone and then they would leave him for someone knew once they were whole. He wanted and deserved better than that.
Mel thinks that people get hurt if she cares to much for them. So when the possibility comes up with Carter, she thinks she has to bump the breaks otherwise he will be hurt also.
I really enjoyed reading about these two circling each other and trying to figure the other one out. They both had scars that were buried and needed time to come to light.

Ms Donna Michaels has written a story that includes humour, suspense, action, drama and sexy scenes. The story was well written, and sure to be a worthy read to fans and new comers alike. Overall this is an amazing read that will pull you in and leave you begging for more!! I need more right now!! Five Stars!! This is a page turning, well written journey, emotional ride. Two characters that you fall in love with. Carter thinks every women will leave him. Lel thinks every guy that she loves dies her father, her brother both. Sges following what her dad taugh her He left the military behind and doing secuities. "Carter" (HC Heroes Book 2) by Donna Michaels is a terrific read. I loved Carter and Mel's story. This is a great follow-up to "Mac". Packed with humor, romance, passion, military heroes, close friends, entertaining characters, and more. I'm anxious to see what happens next in Harland County with this interesting group of characters. Highly recommend to all fans of romance, military heroes, and series.

Donna Michaels continues to write stories I devour and reread. Carters charm shines through in this story. The chemistry is there now can he and Mel figure out if letting down their guard is worth it.
I love Carters protective nature. The heat, the suspense and the humor. It's exactly what I've come to expect from a story by Donna Michaels.
You are going to love Lex. I think I love him as much as Lula Belle the cow from Donna's Men of At-Ease Ranch series.

Trusting!
Carter: Great story of surprises and suspense. I love how Carter try to avoid Mel every chance he gets. In his mind he is afraid to trust her because he was burned in the past. Mel is a lot like Carter as far as wanting to commit because she is afraid he will die like everyone else in her life that she cares about. The Sparks and the heat between won't keep them apart. Loved this story.

They fight their attraction to avoid hurt, both their own and each other's. They try being friends with benefits and no strings but that doesn't work. There are strings but they may not be strong enough to hold them together.I

Phew!
Set the time aside to dedicate to this book, it's HOT, full of alpha males, wanting to protect their women. I know we shouldn't need protecting but wow I need one of these!! Great characters, 2nd edition of the heros series, great writing, only critique is it's a little short with a quick ending. Still great but I enjoyed it so wanted more!

Csrter thinks happily ever after will never happen for him. He has feelings for Mel but that scares him. Mel has feelings for Carter but won't go for it because she thinks she is jinxed.
Mel has a stalker but keeps telling herself that it's just teens. Abby told the guys so they have set up security to protect her. If she finds out though, she will never forgive him.
