Rogue Star #6

Rogue Haven

Well, that was unexpected.

Somehow funny, smart-ass navigator Qal seems to be able to see straight into my very soul.

Me. Manda. The one no one notices.

He makes me laugh. And listens to me. And his kisses set me on fire...

Everything would be fantastic, except for the alien slavers trying to catch us.

With the forces of the Enclave and the Dominion hot on the trail of the Rogue Star, the time to hide is over.

They'll find out that together, we're far more than they bargained for.

Written in first person by Elin Wyn & Ava York, Rogue Haven is the 6th book in the Rogue Star series, and switches perspectives between the Shein male Qal and the human female Manda.

The birthrate for human males had dropped so low that it was rare a woman encountered a man outside of a reproduction agreement. Courting was never something human females were prepared for. It was something only found in history books. So that meant that EVERY human female was a virgin until they decided to procreate, and even then, romance was non-existent. The few men alive fucked multiple women for the sole purpose of making babies and relationships were not a thing. I'm sure those men were in heaven; getting to have sex all the time with no obligation or commitment. Women on the other hand? Let's just say that I'm sure this version of our future had more lesbians than this series hinted to. Let's face it, we've been giving ourselves orgasms for centuries and we don't need a man to accomplish that.

I've decided to stop including details about the main character's backgrounds because it's too time consuming. And since these books are stupid long with little writing talent included, I don't want to waste any more of my time than necessary.

I would recommend reading this series in order, but in the event that you didn't, here's what you missed: In the first book, the Persephone space station on Pluto (where the 30 human females lived) was hit by a shockwave and destroyed. The Shein, who were nearby on a mission to harvest ice from Pluto, rescued the women and fled the Dominion. The Shein harbored the humans, giving them rooms and jobs and keeping them safe. They were looking for income, by the way of transporting illegal shipments, after the Dominion declared the Rogue Star unsanctioned. They remodeled the ship and were headed to a planet called Katzul for work. In the 2nd book, they made it to Katzul and took a shady job delivering packages. Something didn't feel right about the delivery, so Aavat and Shenna investigated the matter undercover, discovering that females from unknown planets were being sold at auctions as slaves to the highest bidders. Not wanting to turn a blind eye, the crew rescued an entire lot of alien females, then headed towards the Qasar Station. In the 3rd book, they made it to Qasar Startion with the rescued aliens aboard the Rogue Star, which included a mole named Princess Tiatra. A bounty hunter took over the ship, but the crew eventually fought their way free and regained control, killing the intruders. In the 4th book, they returned to Qasar. Aryn and Kovor went undercover into the Enclave where they saved three captured Mermian women and discovered that the name of the Dominion ship chasing them was named The Terror. In the 5th book, they returned to Katzul and Lynna and Valtic went undercover after being told by their former employer where the Terror was docking. They attached some tracking devices on the Terror with proximity sensors, and downloaded all the data from the ship.

In this book Qal (the pilot) and Manda work together to solve the mystery of the symbols after they flew through a meteor belt and crashed on a pirate moon. While the mechanics made repairs to the damaged ship, Manda befriended the local pirate tribe and learned about the sybols being a constellation map through what they called the O’lanti system, which was a lost ancient language. The map lead the crew to a planet with eight moons that, according to every star map, was supposed to be a black hole. That planet wound up containing a secret lab ran by the Dominion, where after the entire crew was captured, they discovered the horrible truth behind the "experiments" revealed in book 1. The Dominion had been perfecting the art of genetic experimentation to create a master race (like Hitler). And that's what they've been kidnapping females from all races/species for. To make matters worse, they also discovered that Adastria Askvig, Kalyn's mother, was behind the shockwave that destroyed the Persephone space station on Pluto. (Which, I already suspected to be the case since the beginning.) The whole thing was an elaborate setup, which was dumb and unnecessary. There was absolutely no reason for them to get the Shein involved. The Terror could have easily shown up and kidnapped the women off the Persephone station without anyone being wiser, and they would have saved themselves a headache in doing so. Yet, here we are, and I find myself even more pissed off at the writing. Anyway, I digress. Qal and Manda were the only 2 not captured, and they rescued the rest of the crew from Dominion imprisonment. Basically, the authors want us to believe that Qal and Manda did what the 40 or so crew of Shein couldn't do; which was overpower a sparce crew of Dominions. Suuuuure. 🙄

First intercourse took place around the 83% mark; the longest wait yet! The author(s) dangled that cheese for so long that the entire block molded, and became too gross to touch. Fuck!ng yawn. The Shein have a secondary appendage just above their thick cock that supposedly stimulates the clitoris. Or, in Doggystyle, penetrates the anus. Their monster cocks are lined with ridges, making it every woman's dream dildo. Oh, and I'm pretty sure the cock vibrated, but only in the first book apparently. 🤔🤷🏼‍♀️ The buildup to the couple coming together was boring af. Something else worth mentioning is how much the writing is inaccurate. I'm sorry, but the author(s) have yet to capture the authentic or realistic bodily reaction to a woman losing her virginity on a massively thick cock (which brings up another point, how do they know that the cocks are monsters if they don't have anything to compare it to, having never seen a cock before?). There's no depiction of the sting or pinch from the hymen being broken, no awkward discomfort, no soreness after the fact. Just pleasure and bliss from being in love and experiencing orgasmic nervana. Almost like the writers are still virgins themselves, with zero clues about how this shit really works. 🤔 Or maybe their first time was nothing like the rest of us, so they only have that to go off. I guess it's possible for a woman with a naturally loose vagina not to experience any discomfort. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Or maybe evolution had eliminated the hymen altogether. 🙄 Who f*cking knows.

This book was longer than necessary, and the adventure to romance ratio was heavily unbalanced. And what little sexual content provided was pooly written and repetitively boring from book to book. Overall, I am extremely disappointed, and I don't recommend this read at all. It takes a LOT for me to give up on a series, but I've officially thrown in the towel after this book. I will be returning the remaining books unread. Put a fork in me, I'm done. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Rogue Haven was epic!!! There was something about this story in particular that had me a nervous wreck the entire time. Every one of the books in this series has been amazing but this one had so much uncovered. Manda was definitely different from all the other women. The others had individual talents that really made them a part of the team, whereas Manda wasn't really noticed all that much and blended in the background. But despite all that, she quite possibly became one of the most important team members of them all. Qal was the perfect mate for Manda and I think would go to the end of the universe to keep her safe. Another five star read that I fell in love with. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

All the books in this series have been action packed and suspenseful but this book had me on the edge of my seat!!!!! The suspense!!! Omg the betrayal...i actually had to take a breather as i found myself getting worked up as the crew finally got to the bottom of the mystery surrounding them and the elusive Enclave that have been hounding them through space.
Who would have imagined that quite Manda that is often unnoticed and the loud mouthed joker and navigator of the Rogue Star Qal would have made such an amazing team finally solving the mystery of the Dominion and the ultimate betrayal of someone well loved on the ship. .

Rogue Haven

The world building in this series is solid. And this book culminated a story arc that was interesting. Not much original here, but still decent storytelling. The relationships of the characters as a group are interesting.

However, I've actually never encountered a series in the romance genre where I didn't care about the sex scenes. They are actually pointless in this series. They do not help further the development of the characters or their relationship or the story. If they were removed from the story, you wouldn't even notice, which makes them gratuitous which is just annoying.

I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Rogue Haven . This Sci-Fi/ Romance is fantastic . The stories just get more intense and interesting , more suspenseful and action packed . The crew of the Rogue Star are fabulous . This is Qal and Manda's story . They are left by themselves to save and rescue the entire Rogue Star crew from the Dominion .Qal with his knowledge and fighting skills and
Manda with her many talents and skills . An all out sensational story . I highly recommend taking the time to read .

Manda is used to being overlooked...

Qal, the Rogue Star's pilot/navigator has never learned Manda's name. He has been aware of her, and noticed her, but when he finds himself needing her help, he realizes how easy it has been to look past her, instead of getting to know her.

This done in one quick read has a lot of interesting World Building in it. As it moves forward the overarching arc in some major ways, some of our suspicions about events in the very first book are resolved, some of our ongoing questions are answered, and the status quo of the crew shifts.

Sometimes the quiet ones are the smartest.

Manda has been unnoticeable all her life. She just seems to blend into the background as no one pays attention to her.
Qal is the navigational officer. He notices Manda. While they are on the pirate moon they work together to solve the problem of the "glyphs" that was on the paperwork seemed to be related to the Dominion.
Betrayal is part of this story. We get to find out why and how the women were chosen. There are more books as the Dominion are still after them.

Rogue Haven by Elin Wyn and Ava York
This is one of my favorite series. Qal is an alien and Manda is human but somehow they make it work. There is an attraction between the two. This story is sexy and funny at times. I love how the two are weaved together in a love story. This is a hard book to put down and I highly recommend this whole series. I received an advanced reader copy and have voluntarily chosen to leave a review. This is my honest opinion.

Qal and Manda

Wow that was intense! Books 5 and 6 definitely upped the thrill rating of this series. I really liked Qal and Manda, both separately and as a couple. Qal is the snarky mischievous pilot and Manda introverted who comes out of her shell in this book. She holds her own against Qal’s strong personality and teases him back. It’s super cute.

This book ends the first major plot arch for this series, so a lot happens in the non-romantic plot.

Another Great Hit

Loved It! This book was just as great as all the previous ones and holds your attention from beginning to end? An adventure packed with action, betrayal, love, and steamy hot romance with awesome characters. This is such a five star series, hopefully not the end of the Rogue Star crew and very highly recommended.

Rogue Haven

Manda is used to fading into the background and when the Rogue Star crashes into a pirate moon Manda wanders off into a village. Manda watches a villager struggle with a water wheel type of contraption and helps him improve his productivity. Qal notices Manda leave and follows her.

An unexpected twist

I loved the suspense and the sweet love story. Everything about the crew seems so life like. The characters are amazing and the plot twist was amazing. I cannot wait to find out what happens next.

Good and not so good

Once again the human character, Manda, detracted from the story. Which ever author is responsible for the human story line continues to have weak writing. Manda is shy, retiring and low profile yet 2 kisses and she engages in sex! Once again the human takes ridiculous risks and puts others at risk. One minute she is crying and unable to move then she is sneaking into dangerous places.

I love Qal

So far Qal is definitely my favorite. Kovor is a close second. And oh snap, the drama! The lies! The deception! I kinda saw it coming but it still hurt

Glyphs

Qal and Manda’s romance is a solid SFR. It was interesting how they solved the complex puzzle of the Glyphs.

I received an ARC edition of this book from the author.

I thought this book did a good job of wrapping up this ARC of the plot. We finally get some of the answers about what actually happened with the Persephone station and what is going on with the Dominion.

Manda and Qal were an interesting couple. Qal is almost a bit too cocky at times and Manda is dealing with self-confidence issues. Qal is used to being liked by people and Manda makes him actually work for her attention. I did think that they way people seemed to overlook Manda was a bit overdone. Maybe if this had been happening in the beginning of the series it would have made more sense, but this just seemed overdone after seeing the others interact in the previous stories.
