we all loved this devotional, we would read several a day because lillian kept asking for more:) it is so fascinating and we learned so many fun things!!
I LOVED reading this every morning with my son before school. Giglio is fun and informative and colorful. Everything points back to God. This was so sweet.
"Can you PLEASE read another one???!!" I was really hesitant to buy this because Louie Giglio is not someone we would ordinarily read but it was highly recommended. This has easily become our favorite part of our morning devotions. We learn something new every single day and we often go look up more information about the topic of the day. Every day he includes a spiritual application and this has also been a really good springboard for conversation. Topics have included gossip, church unity, evangelism, obedience to parents, Bible reading, etc. Couldn't recommend this enough!
The book has interesting scientific tidbits but there was one devotion about Laminin that is not scientifically accurate and a bit of a stretch, so my trust and confidence in the material is now tainted. He says that when you look at Laminin under a high powered microscope, it has the shape of a cross like the iconic cross used by mainstream Christians. He deduces that Laminin holds our body together like glue, therefore, Jesus (the one depicted by the iconic cross) is the glue in our lives, He holds us together. It is uncertain whether Christ was crucified on a stake or a T-shape, so it's a stretch to reference the Laminin shape in this way since it looks more like a sword or mermaid.
Children's devotionals often are a compilation of Bible stories or portions of Bible stories and the lessons they teach on a level young children can understand. While learning about the key stories in the Bible and how we can learn to live our lives for God is important, it is quite refreshing to have a children's devotional that shows the child how the science of this world in which they are living connects them to the God of the Bible who is the Author and Creator of all things.
From learning how the butterfly is designed with "dust," that is actually scales, on their wings to how there is a design on their wings that tells predators they are poisonous.
Or in the devotional about God being our strong rock and fortress, the focus is on how we think the ground beneath our feet is solid and strong, yet it is constantly changing and can actually fail us in the form of sinkholes and other collapses. God is strong and never fails us.
I think this devotional will draw children to a closer relationship with God and that they will gain an understanding and appreciation for the World and Universe that God has created. I found it nice, too, that an index in the back of the book will help children locate these salient facts for when they wish to refer back to them. The Table of contents has cute, catchy titles.
I highly recommend.

We read one of these devotions along with our children’s Bible during breakfast, and my boys absolutely loved it. We have another from the series ready to go already!
Almost every day, we look up a short YouTube video on the science topic as well because they just want more information. Pro tip: SciShow Kids (on YouTube) had many videos that tied in perfectly and were just the right length and comprehension level for my 5 and 3 year olds.
We read this for family devotions and it was a lot of fun. The little sections are half science lesson and half about God and his creation. It was a lot of fun to read through and made family devotions more interesting for all my younger siblings. If you're looking for something to read through with your family, check this one out. It keeps them engaged.
I enjoy the straightforward style and unexpected science facts and the child-sized bites of Truth, Giglio puts into his devotions. This is the second book of his that the boy and I have used to start school each day.
Read this book over breakfast most mornings with my boys before they left for school. We loved the combination of learning about different science topics and how the world was created and God’s love all in one. Perfect for elementary age kids but I also feel like I learned new things!
My 8 year old has loved reading through this book together at bedtime. The science facts are great, we've both learned so much! And the bible verse and sweet prayers at the end of each day are beautiful connections to God's creation. Recommend for 6-8 year olds.
I absolutely love when science and creation can go hand in hand!! When I find a resource that I can use to explain to my children all about the world around them using both the Bible and science I am thrilled!!
These devotions are wonderful! The subtitle is “100 indescribable devotions about God & science” – and if you have kids you know they need to be. “indescribable” to grab and keep their attention!
Each devotion starts with a scripture, has a story that explains an idea with science and most include scientific pictures too.
This book has been on my coffee table and many times my 15 year old and 13 year old will sit and browse through it. They have really enjoyed it and usually come back and tell me what they read about. This is such a great tool to help our children understand that both science and faith can co-exist together, and in fact they support each other.
NOTE: I received a copy of How Great is Our God in exchange for an honest review!
Too often I've seen churches shy avoid sharing "scientific" things and leave the arguments to the schools. I can't tell you how much this saddens my heart because God has done amazing wonders through His creation and we can have excitement over studying it without compromising our Biblical perspective. Science doesn't have to be so scary. It's not enough to know that the public schools are teaching it wrong. Kids need to know what the truth is. This is a wonderful books for parents and kids to go through together because it's not only fun and interactive, but it encourages excitement over the science of God's creation. It awakens a whole new level of awe and wonder at just how great our God is. I cannot recommend this enough.

I read this with my youngest son. I like when science and the Bible are together to show they can go along as many people disprove the Bible with science. We are a religious family who also believes in science and evolution (go figure). This book had some nice science facts that we enjoyed and that even caused us to hit the internet to find out more. My son enjoyed looking up some of the longer verses in here, and it was a good intro for him to find the books and verses himself. Most of the verses are here; it was just the longer ones that we wanted to read in their entirety. Overall, the Biblical connections were good, but I did feel like some of them were a bit too loosely tied, hence me removing a star. He and I did enjoy it and had some nice conversations about what is right and wrong, etc. I do recommend it and will be passing it on to another family I know.
Used this book with my three kids (8,5,2) as a supplement to our family devotions. There were a few (two...maybe three) instances where I didn’t care for how the author worded his theology, but overall this was a book that engaged the kids, held their attention, and prompted questions.
A devotional not just for young audiences but for adults as well, a simple book packed with science facts and spiritual lessons describing God's wonders.
God and Science is a great combination for a devotional for kids to enjoy and learn about our amazing world. I was glad to see that Louie Giglio come out with another one, I was really impressed by his Indescribable devotional. How Great is Our God follows the same format as its predecessor.
This is a hardback book with 100 devotions within this 207 page book. The illustrations are full colored with photos and cartoonish illustrations throughout the book. There is a presentation page and a table of contents at the being of the book.
This is geared towards kids 6-10 year olds. I love that this devotional will appeal to both boys and girls alike. When my kids where younger I found that I could easily find my daughter good quality devotionals but not my sons.
Each of the devotionals is covered on a two- page spread. The devotions are centered on different scientific subjects. There are several topics that will surely appeal to young minds from animals, blinking eyes, stars, weather, and so much more.
To give you an idea of what one of the topics looks like I will tell you about one of them. One of the devotion is: “Typhoons, Hurricanes, and Cyclones…Oh My!” It starts out with a scripture. This particular devotion is Isaiah 43:1. It goes on to explain that location changes the names of the storm and why. It gives you some information and end with talking about how God and even thought the storms are powerful they are nothing compared to God. It has a few more scripture that has partial information. It ends in a prayer.
Each devotional has a “How Great” box that gives you some intriguing facts cyclones. All the topics are mixed up throughout the devotional. You can use the devotional going by days or you can focus on certain topic by skipping around. There is a reference page that covers the four major topics. The four major topics are Space, Earth, Animals, and People. This is a neat reference as a homeschool mom I could add the devotionals as we are studying these topics in school.

God and Science is a great combination for a devotional for kids to enjoy and learn about our amazing world. I was glad to see that Louie Giglio come out with another one, I was really impressed by his Indescribable devotional. How Great is Our God follows the same format as its predecessor.
I started a "daily" devotion with my kids last summer. We did I Am: 40 Reasons to Trust God, and I wanted to continue down the path of learning about who God is for my kids. Yes, the stories are important. What God did in the Bible and through history does show us who God is. But they're getting the basics through Bible class on Sundays. I wanted to take a different approach to my personal teaching with them. So we started with the names of God, and now with How Great is Our God, we're seeing God's character through His creation.
How Great is Our God has a Scripture, a scientific topic which is in turn related back to God, a short prayer, and a related fact concerning the topic. The topics are related to space and time, Earth and weather, the human body, animals, and plants.
My kids are ages 7, 5, and 2. The two year old didn't usually read this with us, but we typically read one of the topics every other night. And once we started homeschool, we incorporated these into our homeschool two days a week. Some days my kids were so excited to hear the topic, and other days they'd sigh and say "awe man." But when they saw I got the two other books, Indescribable and The Wonder of Creation, they were excited.
Theology is where I struggle with going to sources outside of the Bible to teach my children. I want to ensure I'm teaching truth to them. For the most part, How Great is Our God didn't dip into theological areas too much. I did find myself editing somewhere around 3 topics. But this wasn't anything too bad at all. As for theology, I highly recommend this book.
Sometimes when I'm reading a religious book I find that what I'm going through in life will directly relate to what I'm reading about. That didn't happen as much as I expected, but that's probably just the nature of the content. It did happen in one specific topic that stands out in my mind, and I did tear up reading that one. My child I'd been struggling with parenting that particular day did stare at me in wonder when the book addressed the exact thing we'd been discussing earlier that day. The last several topics I found to be the best in the book.
How Great is Our God is a great option for a regular devotion with your child(ren), especially if your children are interested in science at all. The topics are short enough not to lose a child's attention but filled with goodness through and through. How Great is Our God gets 5 Stars. Have you read How Great is Our God ? What did you think? Let me know!
We here the phrase How Great Is Our God all of the time, we sing the song, we talk about it, and now we have a devotional that kids can read about the greatness of our God. This Devotional has 200 indescribable devotions that go through the Bible with amazing stories of God. The devotions are on a child’s level, they are short, there are pictures on the pages that go with what the kids are reading. Another thing with each devotion is a section that says HOW GREAT. I think this section is great for the kids because it is a scientific fact about something that goes along with the devotions. Like one of the devotions talk about Butterflies and the scientific facts are about Butterflies. Which I found amazing because it’s something I’d never heard! So you can see adults can benefit from this great book as well.
This is a really great book of devotions. The book itself is beautiful with its blue cover and the globe with all of the kids at different places in the world. And as you can see in the pictures that the inside is just as attractive, with pictures of kids and they are pictures that will capture any kids attention. If you are looking for a new devotions for the kids in your life, this would make an amazing Christmas gift or stocking stuffer! Though it says it’s for ages 6-10, I know younger kids that would love these devotions read to them. As you can tell, I love this Devotional book, and I sure hope you love it as much as I do.
A copy of this book was given to me by the author or publisher. I am not required to write a positive review. The opinions here in this review are totally mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
This devotional is hands down the best children’s devotional I have ever read with my children (and trust me, we’ve read quite a few!). What makes it the best, you may ask? Easy – I am learning things alongside my own offspring!
How Great is Our God brilliantly unites God’s Word with His creation. It is applicable to the many questions children have while directing them to the Truth found in God’s Word. Moreover, it is practical and supports that both God and science are real (not either, or) and they not only can, but most often do, work together hand in hand to help us understand the many questions we encounter. Who would have thought ;-)
Geared towards 6 to 10 year olds, How Great is Our God includes a plethora of scientific facts, beautiful photography and amusing illustrations. The topics addressed include earth, weather, space, time, plants, animals and the human body. Each devotional sparked intrigue and conversation amongst my 6 and 9 year old daughters while my 3 year old son enjoyed the images on each page and the takeaway message of each devotional. As the mom and reader of this devotional, I was blown away by the originality of Louie Giglio to write a God/science devotional for children as well as the amount of research involved and included. In my opinion, it is a master blend of the world’s science and biblical Truth.
Life is so much more purposeful when we don’t have to choose between believing in God or believing in science. In a world that rarely makes sense, combining God and science will allow us to make sense of the world.
We discovered the first book "Indescribable" through the recommendation of a friend. It looked like a fun devotional for my kids to read through as we drove to school every morning! And it was! My science-loving boys enjoyed the mix of faith and science - as we found ourselves continuously in awe of our Creator as we learn about his indescribable creation.
My kids and I finished this devotional earlier this year! Book Two - "How Great is our God" followed the same format as "Indescribable" with a fresh collection of 100 new science/faith lessons for us to enjoy.
Then, we had to wait for the release of the newest devotional "Wonder of Creation," which we excitedly pre-ordered and received on its release day two weeks ago! We are already diving into this devotional with our morning drives to school!
These are the perfect length for our 10-minute drive to school. It takes about 5 minutes to read, giving us time for questions/continued conversation and wrapping up with prayer time. The devotionals are written at a reading level that my 8 year old can easily read (sometimes the scientific words trip him up, but that is to be expected).
Overall - I can't recommend this devotional series enough!
Do any of the books in this series have perfect theology? So far, no. Is it off enough to bother me? Also no--its very minimal, easily tweaked or explained, maybe an issue with wording in 3-5 out of the 100. We have really enjoyed these books and my kids have been exposed to many interesting facts about our world while being reminded of Biblical truths concerning who God is and how we should live our lives and relate to others and to God. Overall, definitely recommend. 💜
Also, we always look up the Bible verses in the devotions from our KJV. Several different versions are used, I dont ever remember KJV being used. So if that's a deal breaker for you, there is that.
This is a really good book! Usually people wouldn’t associate science with religion but this book has done just that! It’s very interesting and I love reading each one! If your already a Christian, want to be a Christian, want to learn more about God or are interested in learning about religions and science, I would really recommend these devotions which have made me appreciate my life and God more!
Loved this book wonderful and had great messages for children to better understand the world around them and relate everything to our wonderful God
Thanks for writing this book. My son and I enjoyed it very much. It definitely helps Kids relate everyday life to our beautiful God. The messages this book gives children about science the world around them and our creator is great!! 😁😇🙏❤️
I loved this book. I purchased in hard cover for one of my granddaughters and then saw that it could be purchased on Kindle. So I bought it and read it , and learned a lot about God's creation. The author does a great job tying God's creation to lessons we need to learn about living for Him. I liked the book so much that I purchased several more copies for gifts.
Some of the scientific facts didn't tie into the Biblical portion of the page but overall the author did a nice job. The science facts were interesting and illustrated in a fun way, and tying in how we implement God's word into the mix was a nice little eye opener. This book was designed more for kids but I'm sure adults could learn a thing or two from it as well haha
This book turns every single interesting tidbit of science it presents into another pointer to God. Packed into its pages are some really cool things about the earth. It has 100 perfectly-sized lessons for kids and works well for our daily home-school routine. The illustration is also fantastic, colorful, and engaging.
There were many interesting tidbits of information in this, and it prompted good discussions as a family. I also liked how things in nature were tied to a Biblical truth, although some of them seemed like a bit of a stretch or too repetitive. We read this book off and on throughout the year, and I ended up reading the last 10 or so myself to be able to finish it.
