I am so thankful that I picked up this book. It is hard but rewarding work to learn more about your specific enneagram type. Once you know more, you become a better version of yourself. What I learned from this book was “when you align with God’s truth, you can support the kingdom, knit people together, and be the best you only you can be.” I really enjoyed this read as well as the discussion questions that went along with it. I would highly encourage anyone to learn their number type and read the book that goes with it.
If you are familiar with the Enneagram, you aren’t going to learn anything new from this book. It is very basic. If you are new, I’d be surprised if you know your type, and if you know your type, you probably already know all this. The content of this book would be helpful for someone else who is new to the enneagram to learn about you. The journaling part is a nice touch, but again, it feels a bit weird with the basic-ness of the content. It’s almost like everything you can read online about type six written out in big font with lots of spaces between. Not terrible, but also not great. Maybe I’ve already read too much about the enneagram to appreciate this book!
Definitely didn’t delve deeply into my type as I’d hoped. All the info you could find on line, though the questions for journaling were helpful. I feel like she had a basic outline for all her books and then inserted the enneagram type in at certain places. I bet 75% of the content is the same in her other books in the series. I appreciated the Christian emphasis but again it wasn’t a deep dive into type 6 as I’d hoped.
This was a short book. I took some notes that are on my computer. It was a lot of review about Enneagram 6 for me.
I appreciated the acronym AWAKE when I become unsettled, or as she said, "hit a rumble strip." Awaken- notice how you are reacting Welcome- be open to what you might learn Ask God to help clarify what you are feeling Receive, Any insights and affirm how God made you Enjoy new freedom from self-defeating patterns of living
This is such a good, helpful, clear explanation of a six through the lens of the gospel. I’m thankful to have this in my library to reference at different seasons of life!
This is a very clear and easy to understand book on the enneagram type 6. If you are familiar with the Enneagram and want a deeper dive do NOT read this book. This is for someone that wants to understand their type in a superficial and simple way. It is beautifully made with plenty of room to journal. As a book, took a total of two hours to read. But, if you were to take it slow and utilize the journalling time, it will take you longer to finish. Would recommend for someone who is not interested in understanding the complexities of the Enneagram but would like to benefit from some more specifics about the 6 type.
I really liked this Christian take on the Enneagram (yes, I do feel the need to label religious books in my reviews, especially if their packaging doesn't make their spiritualism apparent. Because there's nothing worse than picking up a Max Lucado book and not knowing what you're getting into).
Aaaaaanyway, there are many journaling prompts throughout this book; I didn't journal them, but I did consider them thoroughly.
A good, thought-provoking, comforting take on the Enneagram, if you are so inclined.
I loved the format of this book— 21 days of learning about the enneagram (and sixes in particular) with reflection questions each day. I did find the first half or so to be a kind of review from the books I’ve read and podcasts I’ve listened to before, but the second half had more new information. This book would be great for a beginner or someone relatively new to the enneagram, and a great gift! I love the focus on how we behave based on how closely we believe in our identity in Christ and how that affects all of our behavior.
Really got my Type right! And the specific "Type advice" was targeted closely enough that it was independently corroborated from several other sources. That's rarely happened to me before. Very appreciative to this more focused approach, even if all the other books in the series have the same general advice as this one.
This book helped me to further think and reflect on what I am like in related to my personality . Moreover , this book helped me to know the reason behind some of my actions especially with others . Most importantly, this book helped me to remind that all our actions are to be reflected of Jesus , and ask at the end of every chapter of core reflective questions to be more like Him.
Provides an intriguing and accurate description of personality types, but lacks any real clear practical instructions. Needs to be fleshed out with mindfulness practices or another form of daily techniques.
Not what I expected, but enlightening and helpful. The way McCord talks about the enneagram is exactly how believers should. She views it as a tool to help us understand ourselves and learn to honor God more. It is not the end-all of our existence, nor is it our identity, but understanding it can help us understand our struggles and how we can grow in our relationship with God. Well-written, short and to the point, and something I will probably go back to more than once. Very well done.
Very short book—thought is would delve deep into Tye 6—it did not—-more of a motivational book about the care and love God has for each of us—which is TRUE AND 5 star….this book just wasn’t.
I have been enjoying this series. As a 1 I enjoy information on how to get along better with others around me. As such, I have read through the numbers in my family and given them the books for Christmas. ;) Each enneagram number is special and unique. The more I understand how someone thinks, the better our relationship can be. I enjoy the short chapters with helps to be a better person but also the parts that say I am a good person and have positive qualities! Many enneagram books focus too much on our negative qualities. This series is different. It talks about how to work better with other numbers and how our personalities can get along. I have really enjoyed these books!
