Wasn’t for me. I was interested to begin with but it really got bogged down in a ton of details. There were some exercises to do but most of them are in another one of her books. My preference would be something shorter and more practical. But if you’re into all the fine details around chakras then you’d probably love this book.
God, this book was hard to get through. I hated most of it! Pretty useless in terms of what it promised - "how to unlock your seven energy centers for healing, happiness and transformation". More like "how to read a long, boring, confusing academic history book on chakras and religion".
I don't even have the energy to review this book in depth, I was just so grateful it was over. I found it from the library when I was trying to learn as much about chakras as I could. It repeated information I'd already heard in other books while only adding historical stories and stuff about deities and religion that I 100% did not care about. The title was definitely misleading in terms of the healing/happiness part.
There was also a chapter on kundalini and how you can have horrible pain in various parts of your body when it's awakened, hear voices and demons in your head, and once you have experienced kundalini you no longer care about your old life. You don't feel connected anymore. It honestly sounded terrible. According to this book, what you "experience" when you reach this higher level of consciousness (kundalini awakened) sounded like trash. Very convincing to not bother with that. Different people/books have different descriptions of higher consciousness, and this one was definitely very 'bleh'.
I would have given this 3 stars if the title had been accurate - but other than transformation, this book didn't teach anything to me about finding healing or happiness. The descriptions of opening chakras were weak. I don't remember seeing anything about when a chakra is overactive (unlike the other chakra books I've read). There were sooo many pages on Hindu deities and their backstories and some mild connection to each chakra. Describing their appearances, personalities and narratives. I did not care!! I am not Hindu. Other chakra books I've read minimize the religious component because that is not what's important. You don't have to be Hindu to want to work with your chakras.
There was also too much religion in general. "God" was mentioned constantly. It turned me off. The other chakra books I read were a lot less 'God'/religion-heavy.
The chapter on auras was interesting.
Thoughts during reading I don't even understand what I'm reading. "Sattva evolves preserving power Rajas moves creative power Tamas stops destructive power Gunas in equilibrium with the potential of movement: sattva rajas Tamas Rajas begin to stir and activates sattva Guna: sattva > rajas > Tamas Sattva guna moves: sattva > rajas> Tamas Etc." (p. 86)
This book is so confusing with all the descriptions of the different chakras (broken down even more than the main 7). It's not helping me gain any value to read about those. (91)
Why does this book read like a giant thesis/research project on chakras and their history? (99).
2nd Chakra When emotions do not fully develop by age 14, problems associated with this Chakra will develop.(100) Wtf does this even mean???????????????? Children will somehow not have emotions by age 14? what crack are you on
So academic 😴 (105)
Now in the healing section there is talk of Lord Brahma, Shiva, Indra, etc. all things I don't care about. I just want to know how to open chakras (124)
These affirmations are so stupid "I AM a radiant being of divine love. God's light fills and surrounds me now in peace. I am bathed in an ocean of divine grace, joy and beauty. I AM the love that God is. I AM at peace in the heart of God. Thank you God, and SO IT IS." (144) 🙄
too religious for me "Now speak audibly in a commanding voice: "Within goodness, I arise as Lord Brahma. I am one with the universe, and my love fills all beings with love. We are all one" (244).
If you are looking for a very academic, historical book that mainly focuses on diving into tiny details about chakras and their old religious roots, and their connections to other religions, with a 4-5 sentence 'affirmation' to open the chakra, you may be interested in this book. Otherwise, I would highly NOT recommend.
Great book but not title is not accurate to me. It’s more about energetic healing. Not as much specifics about chakras as you would think. But over all good book.
