2.5 stars

I don't really write out when I do half stars since I don't always find it necessary, but in this case I do. Why? Because with all the New Adult books I've rated one and two stars, this one is definitely a step above those, but it's not quite a three either. I'll explain.

With Every Heartbeat is a quick, light, and fluffy read. We're in Rome where Annalise is with the American Ballet Company, hoping to get her big break and become one of the most sought after ballerinas. She's going in her mother's footsteps, a mother that was once the biggest star in the ballet world. But Annalise is doubtful at times. Is she good enough? Can she live up to her true self in her mother's shadow? And what if ballet isn't worth giving up everything for? But she's in Rome, because right now she doesn't have any other options. Ballet is what she does best. But one day, she gets a little lost and ends up spotting a group of dancers on the streets of Rome. There she spots Raphael. Beautiful, sensual, Rapahel. Who is the one to save her when her purse is stolen by a kid on the streets. When Rapahel invites Annalise to a party, their story is on the go.

I mean what I said. This is a light and fluffy read. There are some issues with both Annalise and Raphael's families, but they are brief and doesn't take up that much space. Theoretically, Annalise and Raphael are cute together. But the massive insta love (or at least insta-lust turned love) isn't my thing, but yes, I saw why people find them adorable. Personally, they move a little too fast for my tastes and we don't get to know Raphael intimately so I never swooned over him.

Annalise on the other hand is... a decent character. I mean, she's the character that's been done a million times before. Shy, inexperienced, naive, and highly emotional. She's insecure to a fault, with good reasons though, and there's nothing that really makes her stand out among all the other million heroines in both New Adult and Young Adult literature. But even if she's been done a million times before, she's an all right character.

The last part I want to mention is that this book is very similar to Lizzie McGuire The Movie. The setting, certain aspects of the plot, conversations and lines... I had the strongest urge to watch the movie as I haven't seen it in years. Oh, and look at that, I have time over so I guess it's no surprise what I'll do once I finish this review.

Overall, a good read. Nothing special, but definitely worth the read if you're looking for something breezy and not too heavy on angst. The writing is good at times. Actually, it's good whenever Annalise isn't on hormonal overdrive (which is all the time around Raphael). In the realm of New Adult literature, this one is a nice little gem!

I fell in love with Melody Grace’s new serie Cities of Love. With Every Heartbeat left me with a big smile on my face and butterflies in my stomach. If you can’t tell already I loved it!!!

With Every Heartbeat is the story of ballerina Annalise Taylor. Annalise has come to Rome with a traveling ballet company trying to prove to herself and her superstar mother that she can be the ballet star they both dreamed she would be. What she wasn’t expecting was to meet local street dancer Raphael. Raphael opens her eyes to a new outlook on life and what she wants from it. Annalise will be faced with all new choices she never thought she would have before in her life.

I really liked Annalise. She was quiet, innocent but had a burning passion for dance and life. She was willing to embraced life and all the changes it would throw at her. Then there was Raphael...sigh! He was a sexy Italian man with all the right moves. I think this line describes him best...”Raphael. The face of a saint, the body of a sinner.” Yeah that sounds about right. :)

This is my fourth book by Melody Grace and she has yet to let me down. Her books keep getting better and better!!! Annalise’s friend and roomy Rosalie story is up next and I can’t wait for it. To anyone that loves a good romance in a far away romantic city this will be the book for you!

A few of my favorite swoon worth lines from With Every Heartbeat:

“You’re my destiny, mio amore. My only love.”

“Watching you dance…” he murmurs, his voice thick with desire. Raphale’s gaze is searching, tormented. “I’ve never wanted anyone so much. God, Annalise…You’re incredible.”

I had so many feels while I was reading this book and it was such a sweet romance that I felt my heart flutter more than a few times, even from just the sweetest of kisses. This book was so much more than a love story. It was about self-discovery and finding what you truly want from life and going after it, regardless of what others want.

At 19, Annalise is a professional ballerina with the American Ballet Company and it is all she ever wanted. She has spent her life training to someday be a Prima Ballerina like her mother was and this trip to Rome may be her last chance to earn a solo and move up in the ranks of the company. While exploring Rome, she comes across Raphael, a contemporary street dancer, and she is instantly enthralled by him. They share this undeniable connection and love blossoms. However, being with Raphael and being a top ballerina isn’t so easy to juggle and in the end she may lose one or the other.

I really liked Annalise and I felt like she was a strong character. Ballet is all she’s ever known and has always been number one in her life. Her mother was a top ballerina and she really pushes Annalise. I felt like her mother was living her dreams through her even though at one time, she had it all. I could tell Annalise really loved dancing and ballet but I definitely thought a part of that came from wanting to make her mom proud and not let her down. That was definitely obvious when she met Raphael because she didn’t know what she had been missing out on all those years of only focusing on ballet. Being with Raphael definitely opened her up to new and exciting experiences and I loved how she embraced it and really set out to discover what she wanted and not what was expected of her.

Raphael seems like a genuinely good guy and he is immediately taken with Annalise. It was so obvious that he liked her and he wasn’t shy about showing it.

"I melt into him, swaying against his torso. If the kiss the other night was blazing and wild, this is dangerously sensual. Raphael's lips are cool on mine, slow and bold. His tongue slides into my mouth, exploring, probing, and all the while his hands stroke across my back, bringing me closer to the heat of his solid muscular back."

I think Raphael really fell for her when she supported and encouraged his dreams of becoming a professional dancer. She saw the potential in him and she told him to grab life by the horns and go for what he wanted. I loved how much she helped him with his audition, even when she had her own rigorous training to complete. He would never have gone through the audition without her by his side. This is what I loved most about her. She wasn’t some stuck up, snobby ballerina. She danced because she loved to dance and she had an amazingly kind heart.

I really liked Karla and Rosalie too. They are her friends and roommates and they truly cared about her. Karla frustrated me at times because she encouraged Annalise to pursue Raphael but then she became angry with her for spending so much time with him and not “focusing” on her dance. I forgave Karla though because I think she was a bit jealous of her and she supported Annalise when she really needed her. Rosalie isn’t a dancer, but instead an assistant to one of the instructors so it was a lot easier for her to sympathize and understand Annalise. We get to follow Rosalie to Paris in the next Cities of Love installment and I can’t wait for her French love story.

I knew there would be a moment when things would get a bit out of control for Annalise and she would have make the decision regarding what she really wanted out of life. Unfortunately, she wouldn’t be able to have both, not on the current path she was on anyways. That moment came when her mother showed up. Her mother was a real piece of work and my heart broke for Annalise when her mother showed her true colors. In a way, I’m glad she did because this was Annalise’s turning point. She finally realized that no matter how much she succeeded in ballet, she would never be good enough for her mom.

“There’s nothing in this world I’ll ever love more than ballet.” Her voice cuts through me like a shard of ice. “And if you’re the daughter I raised, then neither should you.”

Annalise is vulnerable, confused and upset and when she perceives and action as betrayal from Raphael, I really felt her anger and despair. She is so young and this is her first love. She feels foolish and I wanted to say she was being irrational but considering how new this is all to her, I could understand her reaction. Despite her determination to focus on ballet only, it was obvious that she had really changed and her outlook on her future was clearly different. No matter how much she tried, even dance couldn’t mend her broken heart. I was glad Raphael didn’t give up on her and the moment she realized what she really wanted, I was left breathless. The ending to this book was absolute perfection and I really felt like Annalise was an even stronger character in the end. Most importantly, she was happier!

“When I’m with him, it feels so right, like the only place in the world I belong is in his arms. I feel more myself than ever in my life before: happier, bolder, stronger.”

I simply adored this book and this is a fantastic new series. I love the foreign setting and the cross-culture romance. Taking this journey with Annalise was so empowering and inspiring. It's so different from her Beachwood Bay series but in very good way. There is still the unmistakable writing style that belongs to Melody Grace but she has definitely branched out and I love the versatility. I want, no I NEED, more books from her.

"Because that's the dangerous thing about the truth: once you grasp it, it cannot be un-learned. And once you feel love, real love, you can never forget..." - Annalise

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review

I just want to start off by saying, that I totally fan-girled when I saw Melody Grace was coming out with a new book. After loving her Beachwood Bay series (which you need to read if you haven't), I just knew I had to get my hands on whatever else this author put out. When I read the synopsis, and saw the book was set in Rome...I was sold!

Much like her other books Melody Grace always, to me, starts out really strong with her prologues. The one in this book was incredibly poetic, which just enough of an ominous feel that I was left wondering how the storyline would unfold. Also, since Annalise is a ballet dancer, all the chapters are titled after a ballet move, which I felt was a great tie in to the story!

Moving on to the plot, the premise is that Annalise, along with The America Ballet Company, goes to Rome, where the company is touring Swan Lake. Though Annalise is a great dancer, her mother was renowned in the world of ballet, so she feels the additional pressure to succeed. Since she's a a peak age for dancing, and not yet landing all the solos and roles her mother expects her to, Annalise views the gig in Rome as her last big shot at greatness. Even so, on an outing with her troupe, Annalise gets separated from the group and ends up winding through the streets of Italy, where she meets fellow street dancer, Raphael. From there, both her and Raphael let themselves fall into the whirlwind of their intense feelings, but will love prove true in the end?

First off, I must say that I really enjoyed Annalise's character. Lately, many NA books (for me) will have a great male lead, but then the female counterpart will just make you want to grind your teeth every few chapters. That wasn't the case at all with Annalise! She starts of the story as shy, and very much feeling all the pressure her mother's putting on her to succeed. With that, I was astounded at the things she had to go through. From dealing with other nasty dancers, to measuring everything she ate, to putting up with constant over-bearing mother's constant criticism, Annalise really pulled at my heartstrings. I just wanted to hug her, and make her see what everyone else saw, a beautiful and graceful young woman and dancer. Yet, it was seeing Annalise come out of her shell, and gain strength both through her dancing and being with Raphael, that really made me love her character. The decision she has to take towards the end is not at all an easy one, but I loved how she took it upon herself to figure everything out and just listen to her heart.

Raphael was another character I greatly enjoyed. Though he can't replace Emerson (my heart be still), this Italian boy defiantly gave him a run for his money. Raphael, as we see in the beginning of the book, dances around the streets of Rome with his friends. Even so, unlike the other people in his troupe, dance is a real passion for Raphael, and he seeks to do something more professional with it. From the beginning, once he sets his eyes on Annalise (and saves her purse from a shoplifter), Raphael was relentless in his pursuit of her. My favorite part of the relationship, apart from when Raphael and Annalise danced together, was seeing how Raphael helped Annalise loosen up and see things through a new perspective. From taking her to eat gelattos, to kissing her senseless in his apartment, Raphael opened Annalise up to the possibility that life can have multiple dreams, but whatever they may be, the important thing is that they make you happy. Also, the boy was swoon worthy and things that came out of his mouth, made me giggle and blush all at once! Whenever both he and Annalise were on scene together, the pages of my kindle just sizzled with their chemistry.

"I'm going to teach you what pleasure feels like." Raphael tells me..."What it means to want someone, beg for their touch." Desire rises, clawing me from within. Raphael lifts his head again, his dark eyes meeting mine, black with promise. "You're going to come for me, and I won't stop until you're mine."

As I've mentioned, the setting of this book was Rome, and it was perfect! From the descriptions, I felt like I was walking along those tiny streets, taking in all the sights and smell the Italian city has to offer. Plot wise, though it was a bit predictable at times, I have to admit that Melody Grace's writing kept me riveted to my screen, and at the end, even I couldn't predict how things would go down. That said, I loved the ending and how Annalise and Raphael's story wrapped up.

To say I like this story was understatement, but with how well Melody Grace pens her books, I'm not surprised. Apparently, this series will follow other characters (the next book is Rosalie's) through different cities of the world, which only has me excited to see what comes out next! If you like romance, swoony alpha males, exotic cities, and the chance for love to conquer, then this a definite must read for you!

ARC received for an honest review =

With Every Heartbeat has a bit of a different feel to Melody Graces other works (the Beachwood Bay series) and is just as enjoyable.

19 year old ballerina Annalise  has dreams to make it as a company dancer with the American Ballet.  It has been ingrained in her since she was a small child that she should follow her mothers footsteps and become the best, forsaking everything else, including enjoying her life.

On tour in Rome, things start to change.  And all due to a tall, sexy stranger.

Raphael dances for love.  It is was what wants to do with every fibre of his being, much to his father's disgust.

With a chance meeting, Annalise and Raphael embark on a romance that will change them both forever.

It might take them here

and they may indulge in some of this

Both Annalise and Raphael have always tried to please their mother and father respectively.  Gotta say I am not particularly a fan of either of them!

Will the bow to the pressure of their family, or will the begin to live their lives as they truly want to?

For that, you are going to have to read for yourself!

I love Melody Graces writing style.  She transports me to the other side of the world, and I can imagine myself wandering the streets of Rome, taking in the sights and sounds around me.  And I loved Raphael's love of the food - I am sure if I was in Rome I would leave the size of a barn.

This is a sensual love story more than hot and steamy.

I loved that this did not wrap with "perfection" for every character.  They are still working with family problems etc.

I look forward to reading more of Melody Grace's work.

I've read all of this authors books "Beachwood Bay" series and loved it. Needless to say I was excited for her new book, With Every Heart Beat.
After reading this book, I feel for all the dedicated athletes out there, especially, for the ones competing in the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
I've never been to Italy (buck list for sure),the way the author described the city Rome; I felt like I was there roaming the city and it's alleyways. Tasting and smelling the foods and experiencing the rich history without boarding the plane.
Annalise, has trained all her life to be a prima ballerina like her mother. Added pressure to be the "best" and self doubt are really getting to her. She really reminds me of the first half of Katey Perry's song ROAR.
"I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath
Scared to rock the boat and make a mess
So I sat quietly, agreed politely
I guess that I forgot I had a choice
I let you push me past the breaking point"
Then she meets Raphael, a gorgeous native Italian, who defies his fathers wishes and fought for his own dreams. He showed her how to live with passion and not over think things and let your heart guide you.
Unlike Ms Grace's other books about second chances at love --Juliet and Emerson in Unbroken, this book is about taking a leap of faith and skirt outside of your comfort zone and explore life on your own terms and excepting "fate". I usually don't believe in fate, I do believe anything is possible. If you have a moment of courage and put your fear aside and go for it.
I gave this book a 4 out of 5 because I felt like the story concluded to fast with too quick of a resolve from the main characters. Overall I would definitely recommend this book to any readers. It's a quick read and a free trip to Rome.

When I woke up this morning to an ARC of With Every Heartbeat, I literally squealed with joy. Not only because I LOVE getting ARC’s but because it was from one of my favorite authors, Melody Grace. The smile has not been wiped from my face all morning. I immediately started devouring it (after I made my kids some cereal of course).

Four hours later, I am left completely satisfied as I have been with all Melody Grace books. It’s like she reads my mind because I’m a sucker for a good story about dance and love.

With Every Heartbeat had everything I look for in a book, likeable characters, enticing plot, angst, first love, and steam….oh the steam.

Annalise is a ballerina trying her hardest to fill her mothers slippers, who was the best of the best in the world of ballerinas. Only she’s living a dream that’s not her own. She loves dance but she comes to learn that she loves living more. She struggles for that balance especially when Raphael enters the picture.

It’s a story about discovering who you really are and doing what makes you happy. About following your heart, no matter the consequences.

Like with all Melody Grace books, I gave this one 5 stars!! I definite reread for the future. Thank you Ms. Grace

Melody Grace has done it again! With Every Heartbeat is a great start to a new, captivatingly, sexy series that I cannot wait to read more of! I am a huge fan of her Beachwood Bay series and while I do love Beachwood Bay, it was fun seeing this book set overseas amidst the gorgeous, historical Rome! I admit, I'm biased because Rome was my absolute favorite city of those that I visited while I was in Italy. (I actually teared up when I walked into the Colosseum.) Rome is such a vibrant city full of history and magic just like Grace depicted. I remember going down to a little district myself to a bar where people milled about the piazza, having a great time. I didn't see any dancing that I remember though... ;) Speaking of dancing... whew! Center Stage is one of my favorite movies and I've always been fascinated by dance. Ballet is so intriguing to me because I know it's not something I could ever do. The amount of work they put in, hours they spend rehearsing, and how diligent they are about watching what they eat, etc is mind-blowing to me. This story touches on all of that and really shows you how, even though the main character loves dancing, sometimes life will throw you a curve ball and force you to reexamine what it is you really want out of life.

I really enjoyed Annalise's character. Her entire life has been centered around dance and while she loves it, she definitely feels the pressure that comes with it. Her mother used to be a prima ballerina and she really places high expectations on her daughter. She won't settle for her daughter being a part of the ballet corps, but expects her to obtain solos and larger roles. Her mother sends her to Rome in hopes that she will make her mark while the top dancers remain in NYC. Here, Annalise's dreams of dancing are challenged and she must confront what she really wants in life.

Meeting Raphael was certainly NOT part of the Rome plan. Yet, Annalise finds herself captivated by the gorgeous Italian dancer.

"The breath is sucked from my lungs, and I feel a thrill ripple through me, a sensation I've never known before: anticipation, as if I know something important is about to happen. Something life-changing.

And then he starts to dance."

Annalise sees the passion and sensuality in his dancing, but most of all she sees how free it is. Ballet is so structured and full of discipline. The way he moves with such fluidity and grace is what draws her in and she can't help but feel the blooming desire within as she watches him. After an almost unfortunate incident brings them together, he invites her to a party the next night. She knows the Company has strict rules about curfew and she can't afford to make any mistakes that might deny her a solo or worse get kicked out. Yet, for the first time in her life, Annalise wants to take that leap into the unknown. She desperately wants to see him again and as crazy as she knows it is, she's finally doing something reckless and passionate for once in her life.

I really enjoyed Raphael's character. He was sweet, passionate, and truly cared for Annalise and her career. He enjoys dancing in his troupe, but wants to dance professionally. He understands Annalise's passion and drive for dance and believes in her. He ignites a fire in her that she's never known before and while dance is everything, she discovers what she's been missing out on for all these years.

"I don't understand it, how I could have gone my whole life without feeling even a hint of this desire. Now it threatens to consume me. The scent of him, his deep musky smell; the taut curve of his bicep, wrapped tight around me; the feel of his breath, light against my cheek. Every sense is awake, every part of my body is calling out for him, but I'm helpless, too scared to move from his embrace, too shy to reach up and bring his lips to mine. I can only wait, my heart pounding, until at last, Raphael strokes his hand across my shoulder and lifts my face to his."

I really enjoyed Karla and Rosalie's characters in the novel too. Karla is a fellow dancer and Rosalie is an assistant to Mademoiselle (one of the Company's strict instructors). Rosalie was probably my favorite of the two- she is treated pretty badly, yet she loves being able to travel and so she will endure some of the other dancers' taunts and being forced to do Mme's bidding so she can continue to do so. I am really looking forward to her story next! We will find her in Paris! I thought Karla was ok, but I did find her to be a bit duplicitous. One minute she'd encourage Annalise's relationship with Raphael, but then she would become angry at her for sneaking out because she was putting her and Rosalie in jeopardy. I do understand her concerns, as she believed Annalise was sacrificing her hard-earned career for a guy. I don't think she had any idea that her encouraging Annalise to pursue this guy would turn into what it did.

I did not care for Raphael's dance partner, Francesca. She was rude, smug, and believed she had some claim to Raphael. However, she is Raphael's best friend's little sister, so it was difficult for him to ignore her completely, especially since he works at their family's restaurant. Annalise's mom is also another character who I did not care for. She was only concerned about her daughter's career as a ballerina- she did not care that her daughter might want more from life. The fact that she would cut her daughter off if she did not do what she wanted her to do was just an example of how vile and self-centered this woman was.

With Every Heartbeat is a story about passion and discovering that life is unpredictable and messy, but sometimes the uncertainty of the ride is what makes life worth living.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review.

There are some things in life we know to be true, beyond logic or reason, science or faith. Irresistible truths, they’re called, the things we seem to instinctively grasp, as if the knowledge were imprinted deep in our DNA, written on the very fiber of our souls.

Right from the beginning, from the first glance at the cover, you are instantly swept away on a romantic adventure. You may not know what is in store for you, or what lies ahead, but the truth remains glaringly obvious it will be life-affirming and unforgettable. Set beneath the gorgeous backdrop of Rome, come visit a place that time all but forgot. To a land where the culture and history is as rich as the gelato that will melt on your tongue. A place where, try as you may, you cannot help BUT fall in love. Sometimes you find the love of another, but once in a while, if you are lucky, you learn to love yourself.

We don’t dance to be happy. We dance because we must.

With Every Heartbeat is the romantically delicious coming of age story about Annalise and Raphael. All Annalise has every known is ballet, her entire life being consumed by the drive to be the best, to be perfect no matter what she does. Despite her best efforts, she continues to stay hidden in the shadows of her over-bearing literal prima donna ballerina mother. And Mother with expectations so high, Annalise can never hope to live up to them. Feeling as though this is her last chance to make it big, she jets off to Italy for a summer residency in a ballet company in Rome. It is here that we are introduced to Raphael.

Raphael. The face of a saint, the body of a sinner. And Oh, how I long to see him again.

Oh Raphael……. Just the sound of his name rolling off my tongue induces pleasured shivers, thoughts of a subdued yet honest romance. Raphael too knows of over-bearing parents and living and the unrelenting quest of living up to expectations. Not wanting to play that game, he left home 5 years ago to embark on his own destiny and dreams. Though we are led to believe that our couple meets by coincidence, when two souls are fated to be together, can anything TRULY be by chance? At what point do you stop questioning how things came to be and just realize that they are as they are because surely there could be no other way. Surely a world does not exist in which we don’t encounter and live out our days with our other half, be they next door or halfway across the world.

I have to close my eyes, to feel the soft touch slowly ripple through my entire body. I don’t understand the spell he’s cast over me, how one minute I feel perfectly normal, and the next, it’s like I’ve leapt off a tall building, in total free-fall towards the ground-and loving every second of it.

Have you ever been sure of what you were meant to do in life? Continuing to live day by day, existing solely under the weight of what is expected of you, yet not really having any real direction. Believing with all your being that this one thing, your passion, if you don’t do it, you will cease to exist. This is how Annalise and Raphael feel about dancing. They breathe the movement, yearn for the slightest of touch, and revel in the fluidity of limbs. To have such belief in knowing exactly what makes your life true and worthy, to know what you were put on this earth to do and feeling it all the way to your core, that’s what this book is about. Finding your passion. Even when we may think we know what our avenue in life will be, destiny throws us a curveball and we are left deliriously happy, despite the outcome. Whether you believe it at the time, it was meant to happen, and that can’t be all that horrible, right?

The intensity in his eyes makes my heart stop. There’s a naked hunger there, consuming, and I feel it ripple through me, an answering ache rising in my very core.

Though the beginning started a tad slow for me, once I was pulled in, I connected so deeply with the characters. I think everyone will be able to understand the points they are at in their life, as we all go through similar situations. If nothing else, Annalise and Raphael will show you that it is okay to go after your dreams, to always be true to yourself, and once in a while, the love of a lifetime is just around the corner.

“Time doesn’t exist; the four walls of the room mean nothing. All that matters is the two of us, dancing together as one. One heartbeat, one will, one soul…”

Annalise has been a ballet dancer all her life. From a very young age it was ingrained in her that she was to follow in her mothers footsteps and become a prima ballerina. Her mother was one so everyone thinks that she is destined to be one too. Her entire life is dedicated to dance. For her this is the one thing that brings her happiness.

“….I feel it, a power like no other, beating through my body, like I could take flight, right there on the stage. It’s like a drug, a shot of pure joy, and the longer I go between hits, the more I crave it, need it…..”

That was until she met Raphael. As much as Annalise is a dancer, Raphael is too but in an entirely different form. The dedication to their respective arts is one the most important things that bring this couple together but it is their emotional connection, their passion and the chemistry that keeps them together.

“When I’m with him, it feels so right, like the only place in the world I belong is in his arms. I feel more myself than ever in my life before: happier, bolder, stronger. How can that be wrong?’

Annalise has never felt this way before. She thought that her life was always going to be centered into becoming a ballerina…everything that her mother wanted her to be but because of these new emotions she finds that dance isn’t everything.

“I don’t understand it, how I could have gone my whole life without feeling a hint of this desire. Not it threatens to consume me…”

Raphael knows how important her life work is to her. He would never put her career at risk even if it would cause them both heartbreak. He would have been willing to sacrifice his own goals so she would obtain hers.

“…you would have regretted it, and then, neither of us could have lived with a mistake.”

But what if dance wasn’t what SHE wanted after all ? Can she give up something that she’s worked her entire life for something so new yet so real?
_______________________

I’ve always found dancing intriguing. The dedication and commitment that it takes is this art is very awe-inspiring and the way that the author described each sacrifice and the countless other things that these ballerinas have to endure read so original.

I also loved that it was set in Rome. I thought the way the scenery, ambiance and the culture itself was portrayed and I appreciated how the author put so much detail in the description of these places.

What I loved most about it was the characters of course! Annalise was terrific. She was always dedicated to her craft but when she found that there was more important things in life she didn’t hesitate to follow her heart.

Raphael was the perfect counterpart for Annalise. He was just as motivated as she was. He too gave up his whole life to pursue the one thing that made him happy. I loved that he was self sacrificing and how attentive and caring he was for Annalise.

The passion between the two was outstanding. The scenes where they were just dancing alone was unbelievably sensual. When these two finally decide to pursue a relationship and come together their emotions were so intense… so raw…so real . It just wasn’t about achieving physical satisfaction but obtaining that soul deep connection was what made them remarkable.

I’m going to tell you something so ridiculous it’s practically inconceivable from an Indie bloggers perspective. I don’t know how this happened… that this is the very first Melody Grace book that I’ve ever read. And after reading this one there is no way that I will ever be able to ignore her work ever again because the writing , the story, the characters and everything else about this book was just simply amazing.

Loved it! Loved it! Loved it and I can’t wait to read more of this series.

**KIM’S REVIEW**

“There are some things in life we know to be true, beyond logic or reason, science or faith. Irresistible truths, they’re called, the things we seem to instinctively grasp, as if they knowledge were imprinted deep in our DNA, written on the very fiber of our souls.”

Growing up Annalise always knew she’d be a dancer. She lived and breathed ballet her whole life. Her mother was one of the greatest ballet dancers before her and her legacy was “inescapable.” It is hard trying to live up to those expectations and she always felt like she had to prove herself, more than everyone else.

“Please let me win the solo. Please let me be good enough.”

Because of this, her mother felt going to Rome would be her only chance in hopes of winning a solo. She wasn’t quite sure how she’d ever live up to her mother but she knew she had: “Two months to dance like I’ve never danced before. Two months to save my career before its over for good.”

When she gets there, she ends up with more than she bargained for. She meets Raphael, a HOT Italian dancer. I swear the way she describes this man makes me want to go to Rome and dance in the street with him!

“I swear, time stops as I watch him move. It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen: part Latin ballroom, part street, part modern contemporary. And all of it totally devastating.”

She knew she needed to focus on her ballet, but at what price do you pay for your career? Do you sacrifice having a life? A potential love interest? Or do you realize being a dancer isn’t all it’s cracked up to be?

“I understood what it was to be alive. To dance for joy not habit; to move with someone, and feel our souls expressed with every moment, with every heartbeat.”

You could feel that this is exactly how she felt when she danced with Raphael. And when these two were intimate…all I could imagine was how dancers were probably a lot more sensual together than with others. Do they feel more because they are more in tune with their bodies? Because that’s how it felt to me AND if that’s the case then I NEED TO BE A DANCER RIGHT NOW!!

“Time doesn’t exist, the four walls of the room mean nothing. All that matters is the two of us dancing together as one. One heartbeat, one will, one soul.”

Unfortunately, Annalise learns the hard way that most dancers are fake and out to get you. Someone is always hoping behind your back that you’ll mess up so they can take your spot. A big misunderstanding has her rethinking everything including what she was doing there to begin with. Should she have ever trusted him? Was her mother right? Was dancing the only thing she had?

He was a truth I couldn’t deny. But what about my first love, dance? Could I ever choose between them? And If I choose wrong, would I ever be the same again?”

I really enjoyed this book. It reminded me of a mix of Saved The Last Dance and Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. If you liked those movies then I really think you’ll enjoy this story. I felt really bad for Annalise when her mother was around. You could feel that she really was never good enough for her mom and after one talk they had I was ready to throat punch her.

Will Annalise continue to live the dream she thought she always wanted? Or will she live a new one?

“Raphael was my truth, but would he be my destiny?”

This book tore me apart. But not for the reasons a book typically would. The sheer determination of one girl to make it big and to live up to someone else’s expectations is just a bit much for me to handle. I could never imagine living in a world where my every move and motive was questioned and I was told to live my life a certain way to fulfill a life that was laid out for me. I couldn’t imagine daring to live in my own dreams. It tore me apart to read Annalise’s story and to know that she has never been given the chance to dare to dream of what she wants in her future.

This is a breathtaking story of the determination of a ballerina trying to win the top spot and trying to stay there to live up to the expectations of someone else. To be good enough for her mother. Annalise has the strength and determination to be the best ballerina so she can see that look of approval from her mother. Her mother knows what hard work and dedication is needed to make her daughter the best, she was the best. She lived at the height of it all.

So when her daughter is expected to go to Rome and vie for one of the company’s top spots, she goes. But what she doesn’t expect is to truly find her heart when she follows the music. The music leads straight to him. Raphael is doing what he loves despite his parent’s disapproval. He wants to dance, in his own time and to his own tune. Though his parents live many miles away, he chose to live the life that he loved instead of becoming what his parents had envisioned. But there was always that cloud hanging over his head, the cloud of disbelief. If his own parents don’t believe in his dreams, can he?

When Annalise and Raphael meet for the first time they are captured. It only takes a second to see that what the two of them have is an amazing and deep connection. But Annalise will have to risk everything to have love and dance. Is she willing to sacrifice one for the other? More so, can Raphael hope for more than street performances or will his dreams be crushed because he is afraid to stand out amongst the others?

When these two are together they are amazing. They dance perfectly together to their own beat. But that is not met without obstacles. Annalise has a curfew and has already risked so much to see him outside of her training. But what happens when the walls fall down and all of the forces collide? Their need to be together and the need to be perfect?

This book was full of so much passion. And though I can honestly say, aside from the few performances I have seen life, I know very little about ballet, this book shows us the behind the scenes of what it takes to be a ballerina on center stage. It is more than dancing well. You must be the best. But at what cost? This is the thought that I had in my mind for most of the book. Why can’t Annalise have the best of both worlds? Why can’t she be a shining star on stage and be in love?

This book tugged on my heart and made me cringe and ache for the characters. I was appalled by her mother and his parents. I kept wondering what I would have done in their shoes. Would I have fought for love or lived out my mother’s dream? Sometimes fighting for what you want is more important that pleasing those around you.

This book is a shining example of that and I was left in complete awe by Melody Grace’s writing. It is a fabulous story!

Annalise’s life only revolves around ballet. Her mother was a prima ballerina of her time, and she wants nothing else but her mother’s praise, affection and love. She knows she’s going to get that if she succeeds in ballet. But the competition is fierce, and the dance that used to make her so happy, suddenly becomes a task. It gets harder and harder for her – but she tries her best, all for her mom.

Now if only her mother could notice her effort.

She was happy with her company – but her mother wanted more for her. She was sent to Rome to train with the best. Annalise soon found out that Rome has so much more to offer than historical and majestic sites, and rigid trainings. In Rome – she found love.

She saw him dance – and she was mesmerized. His moves reflected passion, and the moment their eyes met, sparks flew. When he begins to show her around Paris, she then realized that there was more to life than ballet. Annalise’s priorities got shuffled, and she got scared. For someone who had her life evolve in one single thing, falling in love was a strange, funny feeling that leave butterflies in her stomach, and not to mention a broken ankle. Maybe it’s the place… or the way he dances… or the way he kissed her…

Question is: is she willing to risk all her hard work for love?

Annalise passion and love for dance was unquestionable. She knew nothing else, waste her time on nothing but ballet. I wished her mother could see the effort she made, and appreciate it. Instead, her mother wanted more for her. I was glad she met Raphael, whose love for dance is the same as hers. He may have come from a different background, but he had left it all to pursue something he loved to do. He might have done something stupid, but he made it up to her big time. I also like her roomies who became her friends despite the vicious competition they have. They were supportive for her, but never forgot to remind her of the consequences of her actions. Nevertheless, they became great friends.

I understand Annalise’s dilemma – it was hard to choose between two best things. One thing has been her long-time dream and the only thing that makes her and her mother happy, and the other one makes her feel like no other feeling she ever experienced her entire life. She can’t have both at the same time, she needed to have focus, I was hoping, praying that she will choose wisely, and whatever choice she made, it will make her happy. Because this girl deserved happiness.

I love this book with EVERY HEARTBEAT. Theirs was a rough, painful and heartbreaking dance but with a beautiful finale. The ending was great, I couldn’t have asked for more. If this book is the start of the series – I could not wait to read the rest of it.

With Every Heartbeat is a sweet story with great writing and a lovely setting. I really wanted to love this one, and I really thought I would. But unfortunately it ended up disappointing me, for a number of reasons.

Annalise is part of a ballet group currently touring Rome, and all she really wants is to win a solo in the dance company, which would really get her noticed. Well, that's what her mother wants, really, so she can relive her prime days vicariously through her daughter. But when Annalise meets Raphael, a gorgeous Italian dancer, everything changes for her. She starts to question her desires, and begins to wonder if love is really worth everything she'd give up for it.

The major thing that put me off this book was the insta-love. It was so blatant, and happened way too fast. I'm not a fan of insta-love in any book, but in this one I just couldn't get past it. Another things is that everything falls into place too conveniently. There were so many things that happened just at the right moment and it wasn't realistic at all. Which is a shame, because I wanted to love this book.

Annalise is likeable at times; it's clear how passionate she is about dancing and that passion is quite contagious. She's also very driven. But her complete lack of confidence in herself annoyed me. She whines to herself a lot, wondering if she's good enough, and I wanted to slap her across the face. I got it the first time! Her petty jealousy also irked me quite a bit. And don't get me started on her mom. I totally hated her, and after everything she's said and done, I can't believe Annalise just forgives her like nothing happened.

Raphael didn't exactly have me swooning over him, either. I'm not quite sure what it was about him, but he's really enigmatic and I just felt like we never got to know him at all, just the surface. I'm probably going to keep coming back to the insta-love, because it was just so unrealistic. I couldn't picture it at all.

The setting of Rome is beautiful, and it really makes me want to go visit someday. I know zilch about any sort of dance, especially ballet, but the concept is unique and I think that was done well. Maybe the dance is one of the reasons I couldn't connect with the book, so if you're into dance of any sort, this one might be for you, because it unfortunately wasn't for me.

I know there are companion novels in the works, but I don't think I'll be picking them up. The secondary characters weren't present much at all, and they didn't intrigue me enough to want to read their stories. I did like the writing though, and I will definitely be reading Melody Grace's other series. Hopefully I'll enjoy that one more!

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This book was exactly what I was looking for- a sweet and sexy read that showcases new love and fighting for what you want (need) when others doubt you. Melody has a way of writing a strong but tender-hearted heroine and a sexy hero that you want to know more about. In her new series she does the same-giving us Annalise- a ballet tender that has been pushed to succeed and sheltered from life and Raphael- an intense Italian dancer that is living life and giving his all to his craft.

Annalise is in Rome with ABT for her "last chance" at winning a lead role. Her mother has molded her into the dancer she is- giving her opportunities that other dancers would only dream of. But Mom pushes- and Annalise is starting to crack. She thinks about what will happen if she can't get the top spot. What will her life mean? And will all of the sacrifices she has made be worth it?

As all of these questions swirl in her mind she sees Raphael. His dancing and spirit draw her to him. She is completely captivated. And makes a decision to get to know him that will likely blow up in her face. Soon they are inseparable- the attraction so sweet and sexy. The descriptions of the dancing they do- whew! The intensity of their new feelings scares them both- and after they audition and take their relationship down a more serious street Annalise comes face to face with her biggest fear. She is sure that she made the wrong choice and runs. Back to what she knows. Back to where she is safe. Dance.

She loses herself in the show. Giving all of her time and effort. But she also has lost her heart. And while technically stunning there is no feeling- no passion. The reader is there with her- in despair, missing Raphael and doubting everything she knows.

The secondary characters are also very well written. Annalise's mom is so cold. She breaks Annalise's heart and brings into clear view what Annalise knows she must avoid- living her mother's life. Lucia is just so nasty and petty. Another reminder of what is waiting for Annalise if she continues down the path she is on. Her sassy friends are just that - scared for her, cheerleaders and thrilled at her happiness.

Raphael- can we just say yum?? His love and care for Annalise is beautiful. He shows her intensity and passion- bringing out a reminder of why she dances and how it is important, but maybe not the most important thing in her life. And he fights for her. So romantic! We find out and can better understand why he made the choices he did.

Together they are able to nurture their passion for each other and their craft. The reader will cheer at their HEA, and anxiously await the next in the series!

I loved Melody Grace’s Beachwood Bay books so I was especially excited to read the new series featuring romantic venues around the world. The first book is set in Rome *swoon*.

Being totally honest I was hooked from the very first line, the setting was enhanced by the lyrical writing style giving the narrative an almost poetic feel. The Italian/English/ballet chapter headings add to the mood of the book.

Told in first person narrative from Annalise’s perspective. Her whole life has been dedicated to ballet, the daughter of a prima ballerina it’s in her blood but living up to her mother’s legacy is taking it’s toll on Annalise’s spirit. Her mother makes pushy parents look like a walk in the park, with how she dictates Annalise’s life and training. Nothing Annalise does lives up to her expectations, her mother controls every aspect even the amount of food she is allowed to eat and what time she goes to sleep. Your heart goes out to Annalise when all she is trying to do is gain her mothers praise, she isn’t living life for herself. The pressure is taking its toll on her, she doesn’t realize just how much until she meets Raphael.

Rapheal brings out the woman in Annalise and taps into emotions that she didn’t realize she had. There is a lot of introspection and reflection within the narrative woven with the dance routines, for anyone that escapes into music this aspect was well presented and completely relateable. Both Rapheal and Annalise express themselves through dance, the images created by the amazing descriptive writing felt as if I was watching a stage show rather than just reading the book :)

The story is heart wrenching at times not only with respect to the relationships portrayed within the book but also to the loneliness of the life dancers lead. The hours they put into practice, the rigidity of their diet, their lack of friends within the cutthroat world all vying for the same parts. The detail within the plot provided insight into just how dedicated you have to be in order to make a career from dancing; it requires 100% commitment and sacrifice, there aren’t many teenagers I know that would be willing to give up so much for such a short career.

With every book I read of Melody’s I am more in awe of how she is able to weave fate and destiny into the story, it really does make me swoon :) I cannot wait to read more of the series with each book from a different characters perspective, I just hope we get to see Annalise and Raphael again as well.

Melody Grace travels away from Beachwood Bay all the way to Rome to bring us passion, drama, and dancing in her latest novel, With Every Heartbeat. This story is the first in the Cities of Love Series and introduces us to Annalise and Raphael.

Annalise loves ballet and has dedicated her life to perfecting her craft. She follows in the footsteps of her mother who was an extraordinary ballet dancer until becoming pregnant with Annalise and retiring. I love this character because when she commits to something, she does so wholeheartedly. Melody really won me over with her attention to detail. She thoroughly described the rigorous training and diet dancers must endure to be at the top. As much as Annalise loves ballet, I wanted her to escape that life so she could know what it was like to be a normal young adult without the daunting responsibilities. I admire Annalise for following her dreams and letting her heart lead the way even if the path she travels isn’t the one she is expected to choose.

Raphael is that irresistible European every gal dreams of meeting while traveling abroad. He and Annalise are a dynamite combination on the dance floor and in the bedroom! Like Annalise, Raphael is driven by dance and has made significant sacrifices to follow his passion. His dream of dancing for a professional company led him to be ostracized by his father. I love the chemistry between the couple but also fell in love with how they supported each other’s desire to dance professionally. Neither one was intimidated or jealous of the other’s talent or goals. Through their ups and downs I never stopped hoping their love would prevail over the obstacles they faced.

I finished this novel in a matter of hours. The story quickly draws you in and holds your attention. Although there are plenty of peaks and valleys within the story, overall I found it to be a lighthearted read with mild angst and drama. An eloquent writing style and picturesque detail allowed each scene to play out so vividly in my mind.

I was swept away to Italy and got lost in dance, gelato, and love without ever changing out of my pajamas. Indulge yourself and escape to Rome in Melody Grace’s latest, With Every Heartbeat.

I am a huge fan of Melody Grace’s books so when I heard there was a new series coming I just had to read it. I am so glad that I did! I fell in love with these characters and was pulling for them to find a way to overcome their obstacles and lose themselves in each other and their dreams. I mean what’s not to love, young love in Rome, dancing, fine food, fine men and some seriously steamy scenes! I absolutely adored Raphael and Annalise.

Annalise Taylor is a ballerina with the American Ballet Company on tour in Rome. Dance is all that she knows. Her mother was a famous prima ballerina. She has been taught focus, discipline and practice. There is nothing but the Ballet. Until there was…. more….till she met…him. Raphael.

Raphael is a devilishly handsome street dancer that strives for more. He enjoys the freedom and expression of dance. But when he lays eyes on Annalise in a piazza he too wants…more.

You could feel the electricity between Raphael and Annalise. It was their unspoken connection that allowed Annalise to be more carefree. Raphael made her feel alive and she threw broke all the rules to be with him.

“Trust me, there’s nothing relaxed about the way I feel right now.” He leans closer, whispering in my ear in a sexy drawl. “And when I’m done with you, your body will be begging for release. And so will you.”
~ Raphael

She is on the verge of having it all and Raphael is taking the leap of faith to make him dream come true. Together it feels like they can overcome anything. Then just when it seems like things couldn’t get any better for the two of them, her mother shows up to offer her version of “support” and things take a turn for the worse. Annalise looks for comfort in the only place that feels right but her heart is crushed even more. Now she will cling desperately to all she has left…the Ballet.

But will it be enough? Will they pursue their dreams alone or will they find their happy ever after? Pick up With Every Heartbeat and take the whirlwind journey with Raphael and Annalise and see for yourself. You will not be disappointed. I will be looking forward to the second book in the series, With Every Song coming 2014.

I have been fan girl of Melody Grace since the first book in the Beachwood Bay Series. Her writing always sucks me in and just doesn't let go. This book was no exception to that rule.

With Every Heartbeat has a bit of a different feel to it. It was more sweet and romantic then it was hot and heavy. The characters are dealing with some difficult issues but overall the book was a light and sweet read...

Annalise Taylor is brought up in the world of dance and wants nothing more then to be center stage at the prima ballerina in the company. However these dreams aren't necessarily her's, her mother was that woman until she had a child and stopped dancing. The pressure put on Annalise by her mother to be the best and be nothing but the best were tough on this poor girl. I felt bad for her. So now she's sent off to Rome to take her spot at center stage, but there are outside forces that are reaching in and making her to re-think all the time she's spent attempting to be the best. Is she really doing it for herself.

Raphael is sweet and sexy, my only complaint in the whole book is that he didn't sound Italian enough. He was born in Milan and moved to Rome so he was raised in Italy all his life. He's run from his family who were trying to force him into a career that he didn't want, he loves to dance, it's his passion and his mission is to make something of himself. He's strong willed and had a great head on his shoulders and he is just what Annalise needs to break out of her shell...

These two were passionate from the beginning, their lust and sexual tension oozed from the pages. Melody has a way of making you feel in the moment and turn your heart and emotions to a puddle of desire. The lust in this book is hard to ignore. Overall I did feel the book was a little too short. I would have liked to have had a little more angst in the book as well. Everything moved very quickly but it didn't at all detract from the beautiful story of self discovery and these sweet characters. The beautiful setting of Rome as the backdrop for the story made it feel even more romantic and made me want to visit there. If you are looking for a sweet romantic read this book is for you!

I enjoyed the story. It was a sweet read. A dedicated ballerina who wants to do nothing more than to please her mother who also was a ballerina but her time was cut short. A ding since she could remember she has put her life on hold. She doesn't really have a life because dancing has become her life. Her first love. She gets the chance to go to London to dance for a big company. Strict workouts and dance take up all of her time. No time to see the f
City until one day she breaks away.

Raphael, have mercy that man is hot and the accent, um yes please!! He too is a dancer but not in any big company. He dances on the streets. He is a performer but he loves it. He wants to go further than just dancing in the streets but life just got in the way.

When the two meet by a chance encounter everything will change.

I really liked the story, I liked the way that Annalise Soon discovered there was more to life and although she did love to dance it wasn't so much ballet that she loved. She realized that all she ever wanted was her moms approval, for her mom to be proud. She wasn't really dancing for herself. Raphael makes her see the difference. They were so good for one another. She gave him hope and confidence to chase his dream and he did the same for her. He wouldn't take away her love for dance he stood by her and understood. Annalise's mom well she made me want to spit fire. All she wanted was to mold Annalise I to the prima ballerina and live vicariously through her.

Oh and at times I too thought the worst just like Annalise did and I too was fist pumping her for turning away not answering calls but then I wanted to kick myself because Raphael was just that freaking awesome.

I loved the fact there was no cliffhanger and I really liked the ending.

Kudos to the author in a job well done!!

That's the dangerous thing about the truth: once you grasp it, it cannot be un-learned."
Raphael is a molto caliente and talented Italian modern dancer. He lives to dance. His father has never accepted that he chose dancing in a street troupe over attending school and becoming a successful businessman.

Annalise has been working her entire life trying to being the best ballerina she can be to make her mother proud. She lives and breathes dancing from the moment she awakes until she goes to bed at night. But, will she ever be good enough to live up to her mother expectations or will she constantly fail her?

Annalise and Raphael are kindred spirits brought together by destiny.

"I feel his eyes on me long after I turn away. That night, when I fall asleep, I dream only of him: dancing alone in a moonlit square, his body a blur of perfect motion. His eyes blazing pure as the heavens."

The thing about destiny is that what's meant to be, will be, no matter how hard you try to fight it.

Melody Grace does an excellent job in setting the stage and taking the reader behind the scenes and into the world of ballet. I could see the dancers, feel their pain after working such long hours, and feel sorry for them when they had to walk away from the pizza and gelato to keep up their tiny figures.

The character development is this story is exceptional. Annalise's innocence and desire to please her mother really shines true. but Melody also shows you a strong, sexy, and mature young lady that can choose her own path and still be successful. Annalise becomes Raphael's rock because she believes in him with all of her heart.

If you love hot, sexy, Italian men, who know what they want, and will stop at nothing to get it, then you will adore "With Every Heartbeat".

Check this book & other books by this author.

Excerpt I like:
“He is magnificent, a fallen angel sent to seduce and bewitch, dancing like I’ve never seen before.
Time doesn’t exist; the four walls of the room mean nothing. All that matters is the two of us, dancing together as one. One heartbeat, one will, one soul. It’s perfection, a dream, to share my passion like this—to make it something greater “him than I ever felt dancing alone.
I dance with him like I’ve only ever dreamed of dancing. And I know I’ll never be the same again.”

This book isn't for kids under 17.

Posted on What I'm Reading

I just finished With Every Heartbeat by Melody Grace. First off, this is a sweet read about two people meeting while in Rome. Both have a passion for dancing and both have promising careers to the art.

Annalise Taylor has the chance to following in her mothers footsteps and become one of the best ballerina dancers. When she meets Raphael she's willing to sacrifice a her dream to be with him.

I really liked this story. Yes, it is a sweet read. Most of the story Annalise and Raphael's relationship runs pretty much smoothly. There isn't much contention and drama. Yes, there is a little drama that goes on, but nothing that will give you a heart attack while reading. Of course, you have to the relationship put to the test, but honestly it really doesn't happen towards the end. Basically, the story is about Annalise trying to decided what's more important to her ballet or Raphael. Which is tough choice for her, especially when her mother appears. So, if you are looking for a pretty easy going read, you might want to check out With Every Heartbeat.
