Vangipurapu Venkata Sai Laxman commonly known as V.V.S. Laxman (often VVS, and sometimes as "Very Very Special"), is a former Indian cricketer and currently a cricket commentator.

Laxman was an aggressive right-hand batsman who played mostly in the lower middle order. He is known for his numerous match-winning and match-saving innings, and his special ability to consolidate unprecedented support from non-specialist tail-end batsmen to do this has accorded him a unique status among cricketing legends. Laxman performed outstandingly well against the best team of his time, Australia, and his knock of 281 against them in Eden Gardens in 2001 is often considered as the greatest ever test-innings. In 2011, Laxman was awarded the Padma Shri award, India's fourth highest civilian award.

Laxman is one of the few players to have played 100 Tests without ever playing in a Cricket World Cup. Despite being a relatively slow runner between wickets, Laxman compensated this with his masterful stroke play and a tremendous ability to counter-attack aggressive bowling and fielding tactics. However, throughout this career, he experienced an inexplicable conundrum of being asked to prove himself over and over and again to find a place in the national team.

In domestic cricket, Laxman represented Hyderabad. He also played for Lancashire in the English county cricket. He was also the captain of the Deccan Chargers team in the Indian Premier League during its inaugural season. In 2002, he was named one of Wisden's five Cricketers of the Year. Later, he played for the Kochi Tuskers IPL team.

In 2012, Laxman retired from international cricket

Quite a good memoir by one of the best test batsman we have in our country. Laxman had played for so long for India and his innings were beyond just admiration. Against Australia if there is any player who played best from Indian cricket team, it was VVS Laxman. I remember match when he bring forth the innings from foresighted defeat to tie. He is the one among with Rahul David and Anil kumble in bowling who guided India towards becoming highest rating team. And most Important person whom he himself admire and respect, can't be forgotten, who was behind those ratings, is, Saurav Ganguly.
VVS was one of the finest Test batsman and he always carried the while load of every match he played over his shoulders sharing equally with David. Great pillars for Indian Test Cricket Team.

This synopsis is too good to choose his biography in full-length for reading. Amazing memories.

For me it's 4.5/5.0

I read V.V.S. Laxman's autobiography on Kindle during the pandemic when I was feeling bored. The book is a collection of Laxman's personal experiences, including his dressing room moments, personal life, famous knocks, and his interactions with some of the greatest players of his time. However, the best part of the book for me was Laxman's relationship with M.S. Dhoni. The media had created controversy by reporting that Dhoni was not invited to Laxman's house when other players were, but Laxman sets the record straight in his book and explains how the media often jumps to conclusions without verifying facts. This is a good read for cricket lovers.

An excellent journey of VVS laxman teaches you how to handle failures graciously with subtle character and it was not a cake walk for him to reach to India playing 11. He was constantly been in and out of selection squad for test series before he become the icon of Indian Test cricket. His journey teaches you how life changes once you started enjoying the process rather than the outcome of win or loose. Put all your efforts and you definitely will have a great experience to look back and be proud of yourself.
