A Rose Has Cried But Has Not Died: How I Survived

Rate this book
In A Rose Has Cried but Has Not Died, Norma Okun offers a harrowing, raw memoir of extreme childhood sexual abuse and child trafficking at the hands of cultists who destroyed her childhood—and continued to follow and destroy her adult life, including ensuring her parental rights were terminated and her husband’s medical career was ruined. Amazingly, Norma perseveres in living to tell her truth, a quality she attributes to the wonder of meeting poet Eli Siegel, who introduced her to the philosophy of Aesthetic Realism. In Norma’s own words, trying to recall suppressed memories of child is like entering a new city at night and waiting until dawn to see what it looks like. The light of the sun has left, and the moon appears, and the trees turn black. Until dawn comes and things begin to appear. Fortunately, she has persevered in a life-changing memoir no one will ever forget, as she tries to rebuild her life and stay grounded in love, God, and clarity. And the workings of Aesthetic Realism.

A Rose without Rosy Glasses!

The author reveals her innermost world of diverse and extreme feelings on the pages. The story is heartfelt, dramatic, moving and ... real! Readers are definitely challenged to reassess their ideas of 'normal' existence. What's more, shouldn't we actually open our eyes to today's injustices, machinations and evil plotting? If we keep quiet and carry on regardless, we risk ending up in misery and gross disappointment — all due to criminal intentions outside our control. It is a bleak thought, but it is also an urgent call to action.
On the other hand, the protagonist comes across as a delicate, intelligent, kindhearted lady, who has to bear inhumane suffering in her early life — both physically and emotionally. But why? What for?
Is there any justice, be it universal or state-related?
Overall, the narrative sounds quite current and thought-provoking. The issues being raised here are easily related to any part of the world, as well as to any walk of life, i.e. politics, religion, education, business, social affairs etc.
Finally, the notions of human destiny and [why not critical] realism give a unique flavor to this mind-boggling account.

Highly recommended.
