Morgan and Patrick Kell, founders of the Kell Hounds mercenary unit, are riding high. But when a powerful groups of raiders lands on Zavijava, he finds himself facing two threats—stopping the invaders from wrecking the planet while protecting Prince Davion. Trouble is, before the fighting is over, Morgan may have to make a very dangerous choice…with the possible fate of two Great Houses lying in the balance…

Okay, while these Kell Hounds novellas have been limited in scope and scale, this third book in the series does push the limits for the medium a bit with that classic Stackpole flair. We still have a rather unusual premise to kick things off - the people behind a MechWarrior TV show decide to stage an actual raid on another world in order to drum up PR or something. But how it ultimately played out made for some great combat scenes despite limited resources.
This could have gone the way of the early BattleTech novels - with very limited resources and maybe a few light mechs thrown in for combat. But we got a lot more in this story with Morgan Kell And Prince Ian Davion needing to organize the local militia to form a proper resistance against the actors-turned-raiders. Throw in some spotty intelligence information and we have the Free Worlds League coming to the wrong conclusions about this seemingly random Lyran world.
I enjoyed it a lot as it told a decent story despite the relative brevity of the book.

More battletech goodness
The third of the novellas about the early days of the Kell Hounds, this is an enjoyable tale that continues to expand Battletech lore. Covering a number of back and forth and ruse and counter ruses, this captures a lot of the feels of the succession wars era of raids and small military ops. A good story and well worth the read.

A refreshing look into Battletech history
The whole Kell Hounds Trilogy has been kind of a behind-the-scenes look into the lore of the Battletech universe, before even most of the Legends books were set. It was fun to read about Patrick and Morgan Kell and their contemporaries, Katrina Steiner, Ian Davion, and others. Great books, highly recommended.

While the brothers Kell are on Tharkad, Archon Katrina Steiner sends Morgan along with Prince Ian Davion to the mostly agricultural planet Zavijava to scope it out as a potential battlemech trials.
While there, th planet is attacked by raiders and Morgan and Ian will have to scramble to defend themselves.

The Morgan Kell story
This book continues the story of the Kell brothers and the soon to be famous mercenary regiment. The combat scenes are well staged and easy to follow. A good aditon to the battletech universe.

Great read!
An interesting short novel set in the battletech universe. As a fan of it, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It's good literature too, great characters, good story.

Classic Battletech fiction. Again nicely done - without major spoilers, does end on a bit of a cliffhanger!
