"…What was so great about having those feelings."

Walking the thin line of life and death, Eira never knew what it meant to belong—until he came along. With him by her side, she focused on taking back her life from her creator. In doing so, she found kinship—a place to belong. But it was never meant to be, for he was a Dragon.

"…I was fine… Really."

To keep him safe, Eira let go of the one thing she'd secretly desired. She pushed away the pain and tried to focus on her goal, except going back to her old ways proved difficult. And fate…it has a way of getting what it wants.

"…It can't be… Raikidan?"

Eira’s walls crumble again. Each trial—each step closer to freedom—her resolve weakens. And when faced with the ultimate test, it's not just her she has to protect.

"…I will keep you safe this time…"

Why did I give this series 5 stars? Well, in spaite of several points against, which I will explain below, the truth is that I am captivated by this series. I read the first book, and couldn´t stop. I am now reading number 5 and more enchanted than ever!. Yet, I cannot but agree with some commentaries about long scenes describing shopping trips, and clothes, and fashion tips. I could do without them. I agree that there are some scenes that don´t seem to advance the plot, and are maybe used for fun or to make characters´ traits clearer. Those I enjoy and like reading. They are maybe not a necessary part of the story, but they are fun. What I really dislike are the plot lines that appear and disappear with no rhyme or reason. Let me menion some of them. 1) Zarda met Eira at a partty, said he recongnized her as his escaped soldier, threatened her... and nothing came out of it! She went on living in the same house, working at the same places and using the same disguise! Nobody came after her for two books! Unbelievable. 2) There are strange invaders with out-of-town uniforms, who seem to kidnap civilians and turn them into a weird kind of zombies. Everybody knows about that, there is a large-scale attack on the city... and nothing happens! There is no alarm in the city, no preparations for war, no attempts to find out who these invaders are, where they come from... nothing! Unbelievable. 3) Zo and soldiers. Maybe I am too used to military novels, but soldiers are not that nice, either in books about rebellions or in real life guerrilla warfare. They are not believable. They are just a background to justify the team´s activity. And to provide some action to the story. However, I feel mesmerized by these books. I can´t explain it, but really, I can´t stop reading them! So, if you are able to ignore some plot holes, these are really excellent books. Get the first one and you´ll see!

Shannon Pemrick’s Exposed, fourth in the Experimental Heart series, is complex, powerful, epic fun. The complexity behind both the world-building here and the characters, and their relationships with each other, is truly fantastic. I love especially the complex relationship of Eira had sent Raikidan with its ups and downs, all of which make total sense. There are no simplistic black and white lines here but rather intriguing shades of gray that pulled me in. Add in a great plot which is a strong addition to an already superb overarching story arc and you end up with a total winner (though fair warning: you really do need to start with book 1 here and read then in order). But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to Surrendered, the next book in this series.

I just finished reading the first four experimental heart books. Let me say that I love books, and I read voraciously, regular little books are fun, but I read so quickly, and there is so little opportunity for the writer to build characters, devise a ploy, and finish with a twist, that even a very well written book leave me kind of unfulfilled. It this series is big, 1940 pages, and bold. Lots of characters, action, and suspense. So well written and engrossing. I started with book 1, Destiny, followed book 2, pieces, book 3,secrets, and book 4, exposed. I'm retired,so I was able to read them as long as I wanted, and I definitely wanted! I was thoroughly drawn into the story, like I was there instead of being outside looking in. I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of the series.

Great, however, the plot needs some improving

First of all, I would like to say that this author has talent. She has so many original and creative ideas that she uses throughout the series, and I admire her for that. It’s hard to come by such unique universes. However, the reason I gave the book four stars instead of five, is because there was a lot of things that didn’t really matter. I got a bit bored, in all honesty, despite the one of a kind ideas. Keep up the good work, though.

Also, I must say, Raikidan and Eira are finally getting somewhere! Please, don’t end it there.

Treasures

Although some things don’t change between Eira and Rai, other things do. Zo gets to eat a little crow. Infiltration of militarily holdings, near misses, family involvement, and some great battles keep things interesting and moving. The typos are a little distracting but the story is strong.

Hurry up with book 5!

I loved this series! The typos throughout my kindle version of the books was a bit annoying but the storyline was really good. It's got a little bit of everything. Hurry up with book 5! Hahaha

Honestly, the grammatical errors and typos are killing me! For the most part I like the characters and want to see where things will go, which is only reason I'm still reading the series. Do authors not proof their work!? Do they not have editors!? I'm glad I only have to get through 2 more books.

The slowest burn romance I’ve ever read. I’m dying here.

I love everything about this series so far. It can get slow at times but it is so good I don’t mind. I can’t wait to see what happens with Eira and Zarda in the final battle.

Lots of drag in between the plot of the story...you wonder why the characters act like teenagers when they're 80+ years old...

Great action in the ending of this book. I think the whole series needed to be shortened a lot but I'm still enjoying it!

I'm an ARC member, and I'll try to not give any spoilers.

This 4th book is leading us deeper in the intrigue and, like the other 3 books I got all excited when I finally got the time to read it.
Like always the characters are well written and you can't get enough of them.
The secrets both Rai and Eira have can be frustrating of course, but the simple fact this is not a story where in the first or second book the characters get in a romantic relationship is something any reader should take in mind. (if you don't think I'm frustrating you don't know how many times I had to take down my phone.)

Not only we have pieces of Rai and Eira stories but also of other secondary characters that, when you read the books, you also want to know more about them because everything connects.
Nothing is written just to fill a page and, if you like a big intrigue that is never fully complete by only one book, then you should definitely read this book !!

The book itself is a big teaser by the way and yet we still love it.
