Another RH where the females know that they are going to have more than one mate. Interesting.

Tales & Time was a pretty good book. Once I started it, well, I couldn't put it down. It just took me a while to finally write the review though - eh, oops? In it, you will meet Madilynn, aka Madi. On her 17th birthday, she finds out that she is a descendant and has to go to some new weird school. Once there, she finds out that some of her childhood friends are there as well. It was a bittersweet moment for her because she never got a goodbye from them.. so I thought things were going to be weird between them all.

Surprisingly, I was wrong. So many things happened in this book which is one of the reasons that I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed all the twists and turns.. the action.. the romance.. basically everything in this book was enjoyable. The ending, damn cliffhangers, will be the death of me. At some point, I knew it was coming but I just couldn't get prepared for it.

Overall, I need the next book ASAP!

The first is in a series of fairytale retellings.

Madi has just turned seventeen and she finds out that she’s a descendant if a fairytale. The upside is she gets an amazing power the downside, she needs to leave her home and everyone she loved to go to an Academy for tale descendants. Soon Madi realises that not everything is at it seems and the one person Madi had the hardest time leaving comes back-but certainly is not the same.

I have become hooked with G. Bailey’s books and I can not get enough! The world building and descriptions are impeccable. The characters are all around full of interesting details and are easy to get caught up with. I love the Tale brothers and each brings something new to the friendship between the five of them.

I can not wait for book two as the cliffhanger was too much! A fantastic book to read for fans of RH, academy, and supernatural themes.

That cliffhanger! Noooooooo ): Poor Madi! She went through a lot from start to finish. Once Madilynn turned seventeen, she discovered she’s a descendent of a fairy tale and entered into the Lost Time Academy with others who are like her. Madi meets the four boys who used to be her everything when she was younger but left her and Quinton for reasons unknown. This was an amazing take on fairy tales and not everyone is what they seem.

The guys~
Tobias - No longer the boy Madi once knew, he’s darker and haunted by something unknown to her. She wants to save him but he constantly runs hot and cold.
Noah - The flirt, he’s very easygoing and constantly flirts with Madi every chance he gets. Madi said that back then, he and Tobias were switched (personality wise).
Knox - He also has his own issues and it affected him so badly that he has problems sleeping, for reasons we don’t know yet. He and Oisin seem the most confirmed with their stand on being with Madi.
Oisin - He’s lost Madi once but he refuses to let her go again. He’ll wait for however long it takes to be with her.
Quinton - The one she had to leave behind once she left for the academy. When the other four went away, Madi only had Quinton. However we see at the end what Quin is and I’m very curious to see how everything will unfold.

The guys are all hiding something and it was a bit frustrating when they refuse to let Madi know even though they keep saying she’s one of them. I hope we learn what the guys do for the council and what happened to them during the separation between them and Madi. I don’t have any favorites between the guys currently because I’m still unsure of where they stand with Madi. The book was a bit too short so we didn’t go in depth with them but right now my favorite characters are Madi and Tavvy! I’m looking forward to book two to find out what happens after that cliffhanger!

A+ for the story C- for the delivery

I loved the idea that this author had but her delivery left a lot to be desired. I figured out the entire plot about 3 chapters in.. Also the lack of buildup on important peices of the story left a lot to be desired... There isnt much detail just constant story... Not enough character development i guess? Im not sure i didn't go to college or take literature classes i am just an avid reader.. And i know i cant be the only one that felt this way. That said i am going to read book two because i really do love fairy tale books. =)

Honesty, I’m ashamed to have started this novel. I was looking for some good, corny, brainless reading and thought I’d give this book a try.

This book can’t even be called a book. There is no character development; there are hardly even characters. I don’t think this author has ever met another person in her life, because, from what I can tell, she has no idea how people feel, think, or act.

World building and character development are done through clunky exposition like these gems from the first chapter:

“My mum doesn’t look her age, but it likely has something to do with how beautiful she is. Everyone says we look similar as I have her chocolate brown hair and matching brown eyes, but I don’t see it otherwise. I’m average looking compared to my mum…”

“Quinton works part-time to afford food for himself and his mum, as she can’t work. Not by choice, but her love of alcohol gets her fired from every job she has ever had, and the moment Quinton could work to help them, she didn’t stop him.”

Has this author ever heard of “subtlety”?

Also, bouncing off that first quote, let’s talk about our main character: Madilynn “Sleepy” Dormiens.

She's informed by her parents that she's actually a fairy tale descendant with special powers, and must leave immediately for boarding school to remain safe from dark fairy tale descendants who want to kill her. At her new school, she meets four familiar brothers who are also fairy tales and who also all love her? For some reason? Noah is a "golden boy" who also beats on his twin brother, Tobias, a drug addict that killed their former fiancé. Sin is a sexy bad boy who smirks a lot and hits on Madi as she's crying about her ex-boyfriend's well being, and his brother, Knox literally punches boys who look at Madi and manhandles her around. She's mainly upset because "they're keeping secrets from her" (priorities?).

First, I despise books in which a protagonist calls their parents beautiful then turns around and calls themself ugly (genetics don’t exist), only to have other characters throughout the story call them “beautiful,” “breathtaking,” etc. This is even worse, because she’s the direct descendent of Sleeping BEAUTY. I have seen this trope too many times to count, and it reads like Wattpad-published, self-insert fan fiction written by an eleven-year-old that took a creative writing class over the summer and now thinks they’re the next J. K. Rowling. Quick Tip: your protagonist doesn’t sound humble when you do this, they sound idiotic.

Second, this girl is so focused on boys, her every action is illogical, or directly motivated by romance logic. She doesn’t question anything she’s told, except being told to stay away from said boys. She’s complacent—at best—about arranged marriage being around (enthusiastic at worst), right up until she doesn’t get to be engaged to the boys she wants. Her ex-boyfriend tells her not to call him, implies he knows all this secret stuff about her he shouldn't, and sounds “not one bit like [himself],” yet she just respects that request and decides to focus on romancing the four brother love interests instead. Spoiler:

Often the very structure of individual sentences and paragraphs in this book is so obscenely awkward and bad, I can only recommend you try actually reading the first chapter to fully convey to you the degree to which the author murdered the English language.

Here's a fun sentence from it:

"'Sleep and save, sleep and save,' the words seem to come from the crows, but I know that’s impossible because crows can’t talk."

I genuinely bust out laughing as soon as I read this sentence. Our dim heroine is dreaming of ravens/crows flying over her head, and felt the need to inform the reader that birds are not, in fact, capable of human speech. Thanks, Sleepy. And, yeah, I have to say crows/ravens, as both are used throughout the book for the same repeated dream scene. I’m not sure if Madi can’t tell the difference between the two bird species and uses both names interchangeably, or the author is just so lazy she didn’t reread her first draft and notice the mistake.

This bird problem is indicative of the entire novel, honestly. It’s just lazy. I took a look at G. Bailey’s profile on Goodreads, and it seems that she writes these niche-fetish books where a girl has a haram of good looking men vying for her affection. Honestly, I should’ve paid more attention before starting this book, because I would’ve known this was trash before I began. Instead, I found out it was trash about half way through the first sentence.

I mean, look at this timeline of G. Bailey’s publication history (according to Goodreads). She publishes a new book every month or so, sometimes publishing two or three within two weeks of each other!!! There’s no way she’s revising any of this crap.

At this point, this review is just me trying to figure out how this woman is making money publishing utter horseshit. Because, clearly this is a lucrative career for her, she wouldn’t be desperately churning out another harem romance every weekend otherwise, and yet how are people actually paying for these books? How can the average person justify spending even $0.99 on something so unrefined, they themselves could have written it?

I guess I just don’t understand guys. This started as a real review, but now I’m just sad at the state of literature. I hope anyone who enjoys these novels cleanses their senses every once and a while with real writing, as opposed to poorly written soft-core teen drama. There is good smut out there, ladies, even for your niche fetish! Please, go find it! Don’t waste your time on this nonsense.

So despite this book having a plot that is quite similar to something I've read recently by a different author, I did in fact enjoy this book. I'm not sure what it is about G. Bailey but her writing style is just so easy to fall into that even with her token super rushed plots I still end up being entertained by her imagination and her ability to weave together a wide variety of concepts as well as create chemistry between her characters. Its impressive to say the least.

We have an almost "Ever After" high type story here as descendants from what humans know as fairy tales are sent to Lost Time Academy to learn how to protect themselves from the "dark" descendants, As you probably guessed, the dark are descended from the villains of the stories. Now not every fairytale happened like the humans tell it.. and as it turns out these new heirs to the descendant lines may have more enemies than just the known villains. Madi, our FMC, turns 17 and her whole world gets rocked as her parents reveal she is descended from sleeping beauty and has to walk right out of her normal life and straight into a supernatural one. She is shoved, knowing basically nothing, right to Lost Time Academy for them to pick up the pieces of her shattered life. Lucky for Madi, some parts of her old life have made it into the supernatural world as she finds her most of her childhood best friends, the ones who left her without saying goodbye here at her new school. As Madi is trying to adjust to her new life, as well as some really old rules, and a corrupt council she is plagued by dreams of crows and her love from her human life. Something is incredibly wrong at Lost Time Academy, the only problem is by the time they realize it, its already too late.

Congrats to G. Bailey on her ability to circumvent the Insta love/lust by putting in an almost after thought preexisting relationship between the guys and the FMC. It was a little jarring but I admire her creativity to the max. We are left on a cliffhanger of course. I'm just going to go ahead and say that I'll be looking for the next book.. Why not lol, lets see where this goes.

Fairy Tales Rule

On her seventeenth birthday Madi finds out she is a descendant of a fairy tale and she had to go to Lost Time Academy. This changes life as she knows it but man it is fascinating to follow. Add in a new BFF and the hot Tale brothers to get a story that you won't want to end. Which it does of course with a nice cliff hanger. Book two is gonna be great. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.

This book has great potential but alas it has fail me

Remember the cringey cliche highschool wattpad book? Yup. This is it...right down to the reverse harem and tomboy girl.

This book is about a girl (descendant of sleeping beauty) who just found out that she has to go to a ‘fairy tale’ school and suddenly all 4 (handsome/bad/dangerous/popular) boys in the school falls in love with her because they are childhood friends

*roll eyes*

Hello??? Is this even real?? I mean I used to have childhood friend too and boy, I did not act like they are my lifelong soulmate.

Madi or ‘Sleepy’ have the depth of a toad. I literally feel no connection with her at all. Throughout this book, all she can think about is how poor ex Quinton is and busybodying on why the Tales boys keep secret from her nevermind that they only just met after a long time ya know? I mean can people get some privacy here??

Oh wait, they also have to follow her everywhere everytime because they care for her sooo mucchhh😍😍😍

Also this book is sooo slooowww

3/4 of this book is about how she LOVE the Tales boys. Oh how she did not want to marry Roger but instead lust on Knox ( creepy angry dude in another dimension ) Tobias ( drug addict who kill their fiancee) Sin ( whose job is to only smirk and kiss ) and another brother who doesnt appear enough for me to care about

Also stereotypical much?

Featuring:
Ella a queen bitch.
Tavvy the salty bestfriend roomate/best friend
Roger irrelevant guy who appear sometime

Author G. Bailey brings us the story of Madi a descendant of sleeping beauty though she doesn't know of this until the morning of her 17th birthday. That morning her parents wake her up early and present her with a book. That book says to her that it's been 200 years since the last hair had come about. She then freaks out and asks her parents what's going on. They tell her and they tell her the fact that she has to leave for the Lost Time Academy that night. She reluctantly goes even though she's had to say goodbye to her boyfriend whom she loves with all her heart. Her mother goes with her to through a portal to the island where the tales academy is. Once there she says goodbye to her mom and steps into a world unlike any that she has been prepared for. Once in the Academy she is given a living book whom belonged to her ancestor. She then learns that her childhood friends the Tale brothers are also here and that they haven't forgotten her. For a fantasy book about fairy tale descendants it's good and a quick read too. I highly recommend it to all Fantasy fans. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the trilogy.

2.5/5 good idea but poor execution

****Spoilers in review warning****
Honestly I must admit I was a little disappointed in this book. The idea is amazing, fairy tales are real and the balance of good vs. Evil. The characters are all 2 dimensional, I cannot connect with any of them in the least bit. Allot of the book is filled with nonsense and pointless plot points bother me as well. The main character is kind of dumb, she can’t seem to grasp the basic aspects to the world and the ending of the book was daft. The main character just didn’t feel real to me; as someone who is married and very in love if I were ripped away from the person I love I would have fought tooth and nail to get back to them, not go with barely a fight and then get drunk and forget to call him. I can understand in this book going with falling in love with all the boys but I feel there would be a lot more fighting her own feelings and not just bam and I’m kissing you now! Again it all boils down to the characters not having any depth; their emotions are flat and constantly conflict with themselves. A plot hole I found annoying was the prior engagement.

1.) apparently Cupid chooses the engagements and they are wed to 5 males; fine I can accept that and I mean Cupid is always right.
2.) the prior engagement was therefor chosen by Cupid so she would be supposedly a perfect match for them.. like soul mates.. so.. yah..
3.) ok they seem like they fancied her and then not? I don’t mind prior loves ect. But in this case it would be better to not have any prior love ect.
4.) so Cupid said she was their soul mate and she died.. so what Cupid then chose some other chick not based on love but on her family name... and then chose a single guy for the main character after it was stated they choose 4-5 men.. uh plot hole much?

So basically the rules are moot point when you feel like it and the ex fiancé was pointless and they didn’t love her at all (apparently) and Cupid either sucks at his job or doesn’t care or he isn’t even choosing the matches so what’s the point of saying he does?

The reactions she has to things are silly. The guy addicted to drugs come in obviously he just had sex with some chick when apparently he’s sooooo in love with the main character and she barely bats an eyelash. Now I don’t expect her to be super jealous but a little bit of actual feeling is expected and confronting him about his obvious past times should be obvious.. but no not for this character it’s all swept under the rug because she doesn’t act even remotely like a normal person.

2.5/5 because the writing was decent in general grammatical errors were few and far between and the story had a somewhat decent flow to it. The story idea was amazing but fell so far from the mark it killed me to finish this book. I won’t read the next book(s) because it was just that bad.

This book was on my iPad for quite some time already and it was maybe even longer on my wishlist. I love fairytales and retellings, so as soon as I read the blurb I was intrigued. I remember that I tried to read it already some time ago, but for some reason I put it aside again, but when I was looking for a quick and easy read for this afternoon I found this story again and it seemed like the perfect book to spend a lazy Sunday with.

And I have to admit that after reading this book I'm not quite sure how to rate it and what to think of it. Let me start with saying that I think the idea of the story is amazing. I really love the premise and the world building and the politics seemed really interesting. The way the fairytales are used and changed also felt very original and I loved how Bailey managed to make Sleeping Beauty a little more interesting than it usually seems.

The book was at times quite predictable, but I personally don't find that much of a problem. It usually means that the hints and build up are well done and that the author is not just going for shock value, but really has a story planned. However, the book missed a little excitement. It's hard to describe what missed exactly, but for some reason I just didn't really feel it. I didn't feel the action scenes, I didn't feel the so called romances and I didn't feel the curiosity to dive deeper into this world.

It has a lot of potential, but it didn't deliver what I had hoped for. The five guys were too much alike and hard to tell apart, we didn't get to see much of their inner turmoils and there were way too many secrets and only too few were revealed. At some point I will certainly read the other two books in the series, but I have no clue when that will be. I might try out some other series on my wishlist first.

The world building was pretty cool I liked the ideas around it and it became its own thing instead of being too stuck in the traditional fairy tale stories. Wasn't a huge fan of the secret keeping I hate the excuse its for your own good or to keep you safe. But it was manageable. That ending tho damn. Saw the one part from the very start but the other bit...

anyways will probably check out the next one if only to see where it goes from that ending

Madi’s life is turned upside down on the day of her 17th birthday, when she’s told that she’s a descendant of Sleeping Beauty and will be attending the Lost Time Academy.

This story is filled with love, hate, magic and adventure. I highly recommend Tales & Time, first book in the Lost Time Academy series. I’m looking forward to more fairy tale adventures, as this reverse harem story continues with Tales & Dreams.

I am loving this!

So I am a lover of fairy tales and G. Bailey's new novel did not disappoint!
The FMC has lived a normal life until her 17th birthday where she finds out she is a descendant of a fairy tale - read this awesome book to find out which one.
The character development was really in-depth but was written in a way that was super easy to digest. There is a lot of hidden plotting and secrets. I totally guessed about Quinton but your next twist after that Gem just completely knocked me over, I'm still in denial. Loved this book and cannot wait for book 2 ❤️.

I might stop bothering

I always read G Bailey’s books hoping to see some form of progress or development of their writing style. But alas, this is yet another poorly written book. The narration, the dialogue, even just the general atmosphere are not written naturally. They don’t flow naturally, the dialogue is stunted. It’s quite difficult to get through the whole book. Reading this book, I sensed that maybe the writer is not a native speak of English or that they may be quite young. Both of which are not negative in and of themselves, but they do effect the quality of the writing.

I believe these books are targeted to a very young audience, maybe 15-18 years olds?

The Plot has so much potential, but the execution is very poor.

A tale as old as time.

Really cool spin on the recent RH fairytale/academy trope. I loved that the love interests weren’t perfect and the ‘mean girl’ ends up being a tentative friend. Lots more questions than answers but great start to a new series!

I read the prologue and chapter 1 and it was so bad I had to stop 😭. The writing is just all over the place, very juvenile, and hard to follow. The descriptions are very bare. Also, the word squawking should just never be used 3 times in a two paragraph span.

I really enjoyed this book. Loved the twist in the fairy tales and the descendants. By why oh why do that to Oisin!!! I’m gutted! Let’s hope it is not so final for him in book 2. With magic you never know what’s possible!! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for our sleeping beauty. Looking forward to book 2.

Warning, incomplete series with a kidnapping cliffhanger. (Second book in a row from this author that ended that way.) I’d have given this book 4 stars if the author had skipped the cliffhanger.

Recommend you wait for the series to be complete before reading.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

I really, really liked this book! It's a bit different than other books. Usually we get recreates of fairytales but this book is different. There are some excellent one liner jokes in here that came unexpected but they made me laugh. I really like G. Bailey's writing, characters and plots. I always enjoy reading her books. This book captured me from the start and still hasn't left me, those are my very favorite books.

I can't wait to learn more about Madilynn and what she truly is. I know she will be unique and different, I can't wait to learn more. I also am excited for the next book. That ending was killer. I knew it was going to happen (a version of it) but the other part, my heart, he better be okay (I don't want to spoil anything by saying names or giving to much away). But if you read it, you'll understand. I can't wait for the next one!

Overall: 5/5

The premise was interesting but unfortunately like a lot of stories in this genre. It gets stuck in the ever repeating emotional angst portion of the story, and you spend most of the book just yo-yoing between characters feelings. You barely tap into the heroines powers (or other characters), what’s happening in this world, and any of their history. Basically, All the interesting bits.

Holy cow!

This is fabulous. Book one is a huge start! Yes there is a cliff hanger, but so much about the characters and plot is given I don’t feel cheated at all. I love love love this story and cannot wait for book 2!!!!!

Did you expect to have this many men in your life?

Madi is one of my favorite fairy tale characters I’ve ready. Probably because I loved sleeping beauty and feel a kindred spirit with the sleeping in late/napping ordeal. This was a fun, new take on a fairytale land and I’m especially intrigued by Quin and his story. I live that even the “good” fairy tale descendants can be total assholes instead of charming all the time. Can’t wait for book 2!

Okay, so basically the entire vibe I had during this read was.... why haven't I tried this sooner?! I'm a little mad I didn't think to read a reverse harem before. I think this was the perfect thing to get me out of a reading slump because it was fast paced, and filled with really amusing scenes. I will say however I have a few minor things to say about this, which is why it isn't a 5 star read...

1) While it was fast paced, I feel like maybe if there was more to the fantasy aspect of this story it would have been absolutely spectacular. I can absolutely see this story easily being stretched out a little bit just by simply adding to the world building portion. That would easily add more to the page count, as well.

2) There are few typos, and also while there are a lot of really great romance scenes.... there was also quite a few cringy things as well. The 'girl-hate' wasn't written well, and Tobias suddenly becoming a drug addict half way through kind of didn't fit well at all (it felt like it was just tossed in there). Very minor things.

Other than that it really did wonders for me to fall back in love with reading, and I hate to say it... it was kind of nice to get away from some adult political intrigue fantasy, and the boring YA Fantasy these days which sadly just aren't cutting it for me right now...
