Perfectly disturbing. Mission accomplished, Mr. Sigler!

I always have high expectations when it comes to Scott Sigler's book. It's probably because he has the most amazing voice acting talent. Also, he writes scenes like he's IN THE SCENE.

This book is awesome because it scared and disturbed me! The way the author gave back stories to most of the characters is quite ingenious! I love him for it!!! I always listen to his podcasts and I definitely enjoy his books because they are very, very entertaining!

If you're looking for a horror read that guarantees hair-rising events... Then this one's for you!

Chapeau, Herr Sigler.

BLOOD IS RED is a wonderful variety of short stories from Scott Sigler. The style & subject matter of each story is so different, that I had to keep reminding myself that they were all from the same author. IOWA TYPHOON is about some unusual storms and the horrific way people react to them. Once again, Sigler had me wincing but unable to stop reading. THE GREAT SNIPE HUNT will make you wonder if snipes really do exist, and then make you pray that you'll never see them. Sigler's newest fiction (the other stories had been previously podcast)is called HUNTER HUNTERSON & SONS. This humorous story is about a wise crackin' monster hunting family, kind of a cross in-between The Beverly Hillbillies and Scooby Doo. Sigler says this may be the beginning of a series, and I can't wait to read more about this family's adventures with the unnatural and the Aussie with the stupid accent. With so many different types of well-written horror related stories, you'll never be bored by this book & you'll probably be like me -- wondering when the next collection will be done.

Just finished this while on the train, traversing through the rolling hills of Scotland. I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed it. A great selection of stories covering all aspects of the topics I enjoy, vampires, monsters, zombies, bad-ass soldiers and of course religion, albeit I'm not a believer but still very interesting. Number One with a Bullet was definitely my favourite, Demons and Cops, what could be better. Sigler is a great story teller with a wild imagination, definitely recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Sigler and Horror/Thriller in general.

I bought this ebook mainly for the Mt. Fitzroy chapter. All of the other stories I have heard over the years on Scott's podcast, with the exception of the Hunter Hunterson story.

Despite that I really enjoyed "rereading" these stories, and the authors note following each provided a context that I found interesting.

The Mt. Fitzroy chapter was very enjoyable. The only problem I had with it was that it was about 60,000 or so words too short! :-)

Guess I am a broken record these days, with the five star reviews of Sigler's books, but when its good, its good, and that is all there is to it. This collection is superb, and I would even say it tops the Bloodcast collections available in podcast form. A couple of them I have heard as podcasts, but the rest were all new to me. I believe my fave is Hunter Hunterson and Sons, which had me laughing out loud. I am now a HH&S fan, and hope to hear more stories of the monster hunting family soon!

An interesting short story collection. Each story tends to turn on a simple concept that is hidden from the reader initially. Part science, part science fiction. Like all of Sigler's stories, they are quick, fun reads. Wolf and Red Man are a cut above the others. And The Great Snipe Hunt is my personal favorite, with a premise that seems scary plausible.

What a great bunch of stories! They were truly strange and unique. My favorites were:
The Red Man
Iowa Typhoon - eerie
The Great Snipe Hunt
Sacred Cow - the author has a mini movie made of this one on his website. It's a bit different from his actual story but still good. Can be found at: scottsigler.com/sacredcowmovie

I've been a Sigler fan for awhile now and all of his material is top notch. He started out giving away his audio books and I've listened to them all. He's a master story teller and you won't be disappointed if your a fan of scifi thrillers and horror.

In a word, buy this ebook.

Once again, Sigler does not disappoint. This collection of short stories has action (Number One with a Bullet), things that make you think (Red Man), and the just plain freaky (The Great Snipe Hunt). Whatever type of horror you like, you'll love all of the stories in this collection!

Absolutely fantastic. I had forgotten how much I enjoy Sigler's short fiction. I had heard most of these a long time ago on the podcast, and I am so glad I had a chance to read them. I don't often give five star ratings. I look forward to more short fiction from Sigler.

Great collection of 8 Sigler short stories including a preview of the VERY LONG awaited Mount Fitz Roy! lol Mr Sigler, thanks for the tease, now get us the whole book! These stories are great and a must for any Sigler junkie! Not many authors can pull off doing their own narration, but Scott Sigler is an exception. Listening to him narrated is like comfort food for my ears. He was one of the first authors I enjoyed when I started audiobooks and is still one of my absolute favorites!

This was my first read of this author so I didn't know what to expect, even though I've got a thing for short stories. Turns out, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed each and every one of these horror tales. The Red Man was the most depressing, but Hunter Hunterson and Sons was my absolute favorite. Would love to read more of the Hunterson clan, from Bo to even the neck beard living in the basement.

Stories like these remind me why I adore Scott Sigler’s work so much. He is a bold author who doesn’t shy away from challenging content and who is boundless with creativity and style. I truly did love every single story in this collection. They were packed with monsters, aliens, sharp dialogue, action and buckets of blood. Definitely not for the faint of heart. A must for anyone looking for some quick horror reads, and for anyone fan of Scott’s work!

I had to skip the first episode because I had the feeling there would be #SadAnimalStuff (it's called "Wolf", after all), and there's an awful part in the fourth quarter of "Iowa Typhoon" wherein I tore my earbuds out and fast-forwarded a bit until it was safe again, but that is my hangup and most people might not be so disturbed by such things. Other than that, it was solidly Sigler. :)

The first couple stories had me worried, I didn't care much for them, but it really picked up from there.

I really liked The Great Snipe Hunt and was excited that one of the stories is chapter 1 of Mt. Fitzroy.

Great narration.

I listened to the audiobook, which was narrated by the author. I enjoyed this very much. The author is hilarious in some parts and the way he thinks is so much the same way I think that it’s uncanny. Will also be looking for more works by Scott Sigler.

The best part of this book is that Sigler shares the inspiration for each story. Seriously, that's awesome! Especially with weird short stories I so often wish to know what on Earth they mean.

Stories in BLOOD IS RED:

Number One with a Bullet
In the high-stakes world of the National Football League, a wasted draft choice can cost careers and damage a franchise for years to come. When they investigate sure-fire number-one pick Eugene Patterson, however, they find far more than they want to know.

Red Man
To be marked as a sex offender, a pedophile, a child rapist, is to carry stigma that all but banishes you from society. And if that mark is literal -- a permanent, inoperable face tattoo -- anonymity vanishes, and all who see you know of your crime. For a man who is wrongly convicted of horrible deeds, this mark becomes his life.

Wolf
In the time before man, one social animal ruled the Americas. The wolf. Wolf packs roamed the continent, hunting and killing and breeding. But before any wolf ever saw the death that would walk on two legs, there came another danger …

The Great Snipe Hunt
Nature abhors a vacuum. One such vacuum exists in the “urban ecologies” of our cities. From bacteria to insects, from rodents to hawks, from feral cats to the mass numbers of pigeons, plants and animals weave together a web of life that goes mostly unnoticed by humans. What is missing from this mosaic? Four college students set out to find this mythical creature, the “Snipe,” and learn that a vacuum isn’t the only thing nature abhors.

Iowa Typhoon
Come on, come visit Fenders Pointe, IA. We’d love to have you stop by, see the trees, smell the flowers, and relax with our Midwestern hospitality. Only, you should try to schedule around the rainy season. If you’re here when the typhoons hit, we’ll be happy to welcome you as a permanent resident.

Sacred Cow
There is a fine line between absent-minded genius and idiot savant. Gordo Gordon keeps a foot planted firmly on either side. Father Al knows this better than anyone. Father Al watches over Gordo and tolerates the young man’s endless -- and useless -- inventions. When Gordo creates a theory to track “prayer energy,” however, Father Al will find a religious secret that puts his faith to the test.

Hunter Hunterson & Sons
Welcome to the family business. Hunter Hunterson and his kin live in Slayerville, KY, making their living chasing crack-smoking ogres, peeping-tom phantoms, bail-jumping zombie pimps and the occasional rabid unicorn. When a methed-out vampire (and family friend) goes on a road-trip rampage, Hunter and his kin pack up the truck and follow the trail of corpses all the way to San Francisco.

This reality-TV style story feels like a combination of “Dog the Bounty Hunter” meets “Ghostbusters” meets “The Beverly Hillbillies.” Hunter’s “war journal” is a mix of tawdry laughs and gut-churning horror.

Mt. Fitzroy (first chapter)
In 2005, Sigler released EARTHCORE as the world’s first podcast-only novel. His fans have been waiting since then for MT. FITZROY, the second book in the trilogy. BLOOD IS RED features the first chapter of this oft-promised and long-delayed sequel. Join Patrick O’Doyle and Bertha Lybrand as they head back down below to deliver a heapin’ helpin’ of revenge.

The hardest part is picking which story I like best. "The Great Snipe Hunt" gave me chills. "Red Man" almost made me cry. "Hunter Hunterson & Sons" made me laugh (and want to start stalking Sigler until he turns the story into a novel). Overall, a top notch collection of stories.
