David S. Krause had left New York behind and started a new life in the West Coast as a Private Detective. Within lingering thoughts of Katsuya on his mind, David tries to start over. Right after he finally settled enough to have an official office, he got his first "official" case.
Jamie Christie, an attractive young man tethered to a lot of money -- hired David to look for his missing brother, Jesse. David then embarked on an adventure that rivaled the strangest case he'd handle in his NYPD career.
Listen to the audible version! In our book club, only two of us listened, and only two of us loved the book. The characters are multidimensional, flawed, and so very interesting. I was so sad when the book ended.
This was definitely better than the prequel, but only a bit so. As a private detective, I felt David did more slips up than necessary. For instance, when he didn't know about the 90-day limit and the fact that he didn't know Lee was working for Jamie and not Collin. And while I did get the impression that Robert can be as impulsive as his brother Allen, I would think he'd kidnap Jamie with more caution, seeing as he's done this several times before and the fact that he's a cop who is dealing with another cop. They're small, but a lot of small slips up that just piled up. Overall, I did enjoy this read. Again, better than the prequel, but only a little bit.
