Three years has passed since Roxanne left. She’s obeyed and fulfilled Remo’s every wish. His latest command, however, will send her back to Earth. Aware her presence Earth-side is furthering Remo’s plans, Roxanne delves into an impossible chase against time, the preternatural community, and herself. But she might already be too late, and Roxanne experiences firsthand that when desperate people are pressed against a rock, they’re willing to commit just about anything.
Jina S. Bazzar is a Palestinian author, born and raised in Brazil. Like most writers, her love of books began at a young age. Unlike most writers, she never aspired to become one. It was only years after she became blind that she tried her hand at writing, giving voice to all the wild, rambling thoughts in her mind. She now lives in Palestine with her family, taking inspiration from the smallest things in life. When she’s not writing or networking on social media, you can find her in the kitchen, baking while listening to (often very loud) music. Find writing updates at: linktree/jina_bazzar
Heir of Fury is a fantastic culmination of this series. Roxanne is a force to be reckoned with, and when she puts her mind to something, she will achieve it. I can't possibly imagine going through all the damage and horror she's been forced to incur, and still find a way to be somewhat kind to the people who've wronged her. Wow!
My overwhelming reaction to this book is centered around how well written it is... as a drama and exploration of family and responsibility. Yes, it has tons of fantasy elements and intense scenes with vicious attacks, battles, and shocks. But, at its core, we're dealing with a girl who was abandoned by her father, tricked by her relatives, confused by her mother, and made to live on her own with people hurting her the entire path to adulthood. Now, she is bound to one of these awful people... but we must question, which is the bigger horror? Him, or the people she thought she trusted.
Since this is a spoiler-free zone, I'll leave my thoughts on that topic there for now. Let's talk about the characters and the setting. Many parts of this book take place in NYC not too far from where I live. Being able to walk the same streets, though the time frames might be different, is very cool. Seeing how Roxanne learns to adapt her thoughts and feelings for others, disguising her true instincts and actions from those who want to do nothing but hurt her, is a great addition to the story. I wasn't quite sure who to believe, as each set of characters proved their loyalty and concern. Bazzar does a fantastic job at balancing these scenes and moments all the way to the end where it smashes together in a beautiful summary and climax.
If you are a fan of trilogies (with a strong prequel), you'll find yourself enamored with this one. Each book is several hundred pages long, but they are immersive and quick reads. There's a fine balance between reality and futuristic science-fiction / fantasy that will keep you on your toes. The author has an immense imagination, and she clearly depicts it on the pages well. We can visualize everything going on... the battle scenes alone will prove her writing chops. I look forward to more from her in either an extension of this series or something new.
Every once in awhile you come across an author’s writing that is so exemplary their storytelling just blows you away. Jina S. Bazzar, Heir of Fuy is truly a perfect example of exemplary storytelling. Bazzar has found that perfect balance between reality and science fiction making this a relatable, but futuristic tale.
If that wasn’t enough, the original imaginings is described just the perfect amount so you are quickly and completely immersed in Roxanne’s world.
What more can I say… I’m a big fan of Jina Bazzar and can’t wait to see what she will bring to the pages next. I can say, whatever it is, I will be reading it.
Jina S. Bazzar has outdone herself with book #3... It might just be my all time favorite out of all of her books. Storyline is unique even for a fantasy/paranormal world! Great characters that developed through the story. Super settings - makes me want to be there in person... Finally a book that not only embraces what werewolves, vampires and magician really are, it celebrates the hell out of it! The heroes are so colorful & full of life - you'll never forget them! The world building and actions are fantastic. The author is truly the master of kick ass actions (descriptions)! I highly recommend putting aside some time when you pick up this book because you will not want to put it down.
I’m lucky I got an ARC for the third and last book of The Roxanne Fosch Files. This is an urban fantasy / sci-fi story where shapeshifters, magic and even planets and dimensions are involved. Roxanne is at the center of it all. She is an independent (sort of a lone-wolf), strong-willed woman who has gone through A LOT in the first two books.
Her personality makes sense, considering all the pain and betrayal she has suffered. To recap, she is not a normal human. Scientists and other creatures are interested in her as a tool or experiment subject. Even among preternaturals, she is still a weird creature. Without anyone to fully trust or identify with, she needs to keep searching for answers about her past. While doing so, she is also unraveling a bigger story that involves people on earth as well as beings from other dimensions.
That brings us to the third book, after Roxanne became Remo’s familiar. I think most details could be spoilers, so I won’t go into details. What I most enjoyed about this final part is that you can’t tell what is going to happen next. I love playing detective and guessing, from early on, what character might die, who might betray them and how is it going to play out in the end. I was so immersed in the story, that it kept hitting me on the face with surprise after surprise and I just took the unfolding events as they came, unable to even formulate predictions.
Like with the previous books, there’s a lot of action-packed scenes, gory fights, not suitable for blood and violence sensible readers, and lots of surprises that add up to the bigger puzzle. Romance picks up from where we left off in the previous book and intensifies as we move forward in the story. Unlike the previous books, I was emotionally invested. After following along the adventures of these well fleshed-out characters, I started to despise, love and grieve for and with them.
This series is a great choice if you enjoy losing yourself in fantasy worlds. Jina S. Bazzar does a great job at describing so many characters, scenarios and little actions that make everything more believable and enjoyable. However, if you prefer fast-paced stories with less worldbuilding, you might find it too wordy at times, but I believe the story is good enough to keep you going despite its slow development.
A satisfying ending, with unpredictable bits to keep you surprised until the very end and some bits left unsolved. I’m just sad I won’t get to read more about these characters. Or who knows. Maybe a side story? One can hope!.
Finally - The wonderful, intriguing and super tense conclusion of Roxanne's adventure is here!!!
Whoa, what a read! I don't think my heart rate normalised until I had finished the entire book. Everything had me jump up in my comfy armchair or grasp for a tissue. It was a rollercoaster ride of emotions for sure, but definitely in a good way.
Such a satisfying ending too, even though I shed some tears in between.
Now the tension and suspense from the previous parts remain and probably even intensify throughout the last instalment.
When one question was answered, a million more emerged. Not to worry though, I felt like they all got answered in the end.
I couldn't have wished for a better conclusion and ending to Roxanne's tale. Go pick it up, it's an awesome read that you won't regret!
Heir of Fury begins, for Roxanne, three years after the conclusion of Heir of Doom. However, only three weeks have passed back in the human world. Roxanne is Remo’s familiar and, powerless to refuse his commands, must capture and bring him vessels to help with his plan of world domination.
Though Roxanne is finally able to return to Earth, she has only a few weeks away from Remo and must return with more vessels. During this time, she tries to find a way to thwart Remo’s plans, end his control over her, and protect her friends and the world from Remo’s evil clutches. This proves difficult since she is Remo’s familiar and can only reveal and do what Remo wants.
Like the first two books in the series, this story is filled with plenty of plot twists, action, and suspense. You never know what might happen next, who Roxanne should trust, or what kind of danger she might face. There are several shocking betrayals and losses throughout the book that I did not expect! The unpredictability of the plot is one of the strengths of the novel. I love the action-packed, drama-filled story and how Roxanne continues to be a fierce protagonist.
Roxanne is smart and brave, and she is loyal to a fault. She has come a long way since the beginning of this series, and I feel like she understands herself and others more as the series progresses. She is no longer confused, unaware, and unable to figure out peoples’ motivations. Instead, she is sure, strong, and self-sacrificing. She also has a love interest that shows an entirely different part of her personality. I enjoyed this aspect of the story and thought the romance was a calming addition to a tense, suspenseful, and violent story.
I enjoyed the conclusion to the series and LOVED the epilogue where we find out where Roxanne’s life has taken her years after the conclusion of the story. After the tragedy, loss, violence, and betrayal that Roxanne endures, I so wanted to see her happy ending, and the author did not disappoint! Thanks so much to Jina S. Bazzar for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
Heir of Fury is the last of three books and it makes me feel sad saying goodbye to Roxanne but at the same time I'm happy because she finally got her happy ending. Again Jina, thank you so much for introducing these books.
In the third book, things get really complicated, because Roxanne was put in a difficult situation. I don't want to spoil all three books to you, but she is our main super hero who saves the world from an evil preternatural! I really like the fact the Jina made a woman a main character who is so strong and independent. The book was packed with action, which means you can't be bored. Though she had to endure a difficult childhood and hardship in the clan, she finally got her happy ending together with her mate and I couldn't be happier for her.
I'll leave my thought here because I really want all of you who are reading this small review, to take your time and read all three books because I can't recommend them enough. Also I can't wait more good books from Jina.
Bazzar dishes out the finale to a fast-paced urban fantasy trilogy that I enjoyed from start to finish. Roxanne is the “familiar” of the guy who wants to destroy the world, which means she’s compelled to do whatever he orders including, kill, lie, spy, and mislead. That creates awesome tension as her personal goal is the exact opposite. It was a courageous choice on the part of the author, and I enjoyed how she pulled it off.
The plot and world building in this series is complex and casual readers be warned – you might have to take notes. There are various worlds, dimensions, weapons, powers, creatures, races, and tons of names. It works; it makes sense. This is a well-crafted story, but I needed to pay attention. It’s a lot of information, so it's easy to miss something and get lost.
Roxanne continues to be the tough character she was at the series’ start, and despite her compelled actions, she is likeable and easy to root for. Her love for her friends, and especially for Zantry, shows a soft side that’s endearing. She has a lot to lose. All of the characters are consistent and well-defined.
Highly recommended for urban fantasy readers who enjoy complex plots with high stakes and a strong female lead.
This is the third and final book in the Roxanne Fosch Files series, so just a heads up that this review may contain mild spoilers for those previous books. But really, this is an excellent urban fantasy, new adult supernatural and paranormal series so you should definitely check out the first two books. “Heir of Fury” picks up about three years where the last book left off, though only about three weeks have passed back in the “real world”. In that time, Roxanne has become Remo’s most valuable asset, and as his familiar, Roxanne is powerless to go against his orders, bringing him person after person to become a vessel for his evil schemes toward world domination and destruction of the Seelie lands. Roxanne has to figure out what Remo’s plans to achieve his goals are, and how to thwart them, without telling anyone because the second Remo even suspects that she is going against him, he’ll force her to turn against her friends and the few people she holds dear. Roxanne has always been a tragic hero, and this final book really punishes poor Roxanne, a unique shifter even amongst her people, all the way to the bitter sweet end.
This is one of those series that doesn’t do a ton in the recap department when it comes to characters, and this series has a LOT of characters that come and go, some in the first book only to show up again in the third, and while the start of the book does list out who the characters are, it didn’t really help me associate who was who and why they were important. The few main players don’t have that problem, though. All this to say, this series is probably best enjoyed if you read them close together while everything is freshest, which is honestly fine because this whole series is action packed and easily bingeable! Especially if you love shifters, supernatural beings, and some classic fae creatures popping up. This final book does start a bit slow, but honestly as soon as Roxanne and Zantry head to the Seelie lands, I had a hard time putting the book down. I loved seeing the evolution of Zantry and Roxanne’s relationship, I enjoyed having Diggy and Vicky back, and seeing how Roxanne and Mwara grew from where they left things in the second book. But, as always, Roxanne’s status as being an outsider is her biggest hindrance in solving the problems before her.
The different clans of preternaturals still refuse to flat out tell Roxanne how the clan politics work, same with the Seelie court, and then they all still get pissed when her ignorance has Roxanne choosing the wrong thing to do. While I always appreciate a hero that makes mistakes and learns from them, these aren’t Roxanne’s mistakes, and it still bugged me that even those who like Roxanne don’t share with her vital information for some really silly reasons at times. But this is a very personal preference of mine, as I am generally not a fan of the miscommunication tropes being a driving factor of tension. But that aside, I did love how this final book keeps the tension high of if Roxanne will survive the final summons of Remo, and if she can, how will she pull it off? How was she going to save everyone, but most of all the dreamy Zantry? There were some great twists, and some really gut punch deaths that I am still not ok with, but at the same time, created a bitter sweet layer that felt just absolutely right for the end of this series. But if you’re worried about this death, I will say that the epilogue was a treat to read, so hopefully that gives you some comfort while not spoiling anything!
All in all, this is a dark—in the best way—conclusion to an action packed, New Adult, urban fantasy series with plenty of twists, a great presentation of fated love, and all while watching someone battle their way toward the happiness they so deserve. Even with certain sections feeling a bit slow with info dumps, or getting confused because I couldn’t remember the characters (which is why it’s getting 4 stars), I really enjoyed this book, this series, and the incredible creativity and world building prowess the author show cases throughout this series. I definitely recommend it, and thank you to the author for sending me a copy for an honest review!
Disclaimer - the author approached me and sent a free ARC digital download of the book in exchange for an honest review.
This book starts with a list of terms and characters and at this point in the series, it was very much appreciated for keeping track of who is who and words that I wasn’t sure of. An epigraph follows, some words of which I’ve found myself highlighting in this and the previous books. The epigraph gives somewhat of a philosophical outlook to some thoughts of Roxanne’s regarding good and evil which I find incredibly true when applied to humans and thus thought provoking.
Book three continues where book two left off with Roxanne finding out her true parentage and realising her mistake of binding herself to the incredibly powerful Remo Drammen. I again found myself appreciating the scene building ability of Jina and the depth she provides each scene in her books, she manages to create such a dynamic and realistic image with her words that I find myself appreciating over and over as I read more of her works.
“He was in the kitchen drinking coffee, still dressed in gray sweatpants and white tank, hair loose about his shoulders, feet bare. He looked like an exotic poet with that patrician nose and sculpted mouth, the vivid blue of his eyes contrasting with all that glossy black hair. A beautiful exotic poet.”
As I find the end of the book drawing nearer, I’m both excited to discover what is to come and sad to be approaching the inevitable goodbye to Roxanne Fosch. I’ve found this book has answered many of the mysteries and holes from the previous books and provides a good ending to the Roxanne Fosch files.
I thoroughly enjoyed this last instalment to the Roxanne Fosch Files and I’m glad the books came to the end they did. Although I’m sad they’ve come to an end, Roxanne now feels like an old friend who’s journey I know I’ll cherish for a long time to come.

Roxy has returned Mwara to her family, but at a terrible cost. To free Mwara, Roxy had to become the familiar of Remo, a powerful evil sorcerer. She still has some limited free will, but if he gives her a command, she has no choice but to obey, even is she should die trying. Any secrets she holds, any plans she makes—one command from Remo and they’re all his.
Still, she needs to try because Remo is gearing up for a huge confrontation, and if he’s successful, there may be nothing she can salvage from the ashes. Not only her life, but the lives of everyone she loves hang in the balance.
Then Remo summons her and gives her an unexpected command—return home and do his bidding there…
Heir of Fury is the final book from the trilogy. Roxanne has come a long way from the first book – Heir of Ashes. She started as a fugitive. Hunted by everyone. Hardly trusting anyone. Coming to terms with her abandonment. Seeking a million answers about her past, about who she really is. Struggling to trust anyone because of the horrors she has gone through. She felt a lot like Jessica Jones to me and I loved her from the start.
Now in the finale, Roxanne has got her feet on the ground. She has grown up from the scared child on the run, afraid of letting anyone in to a ruthless fighter. She has found the answers to a lot of her questions and found out who her allies are and who her enemies are. She might have even found a potential love interest. But now, she has much bigger things to worry about. Like losing her soul being Remo Drammen’s familiar and being forced to carry out his evil work. Will she survive? Will she be able to defeat Remo? Will she be able to live a normal life with the person she loves? And what/who will she have to sacrifice in order to get the ending she wants? We get the answers to all these questions in the action packed finale of the series.
I agree with another blogger who recently reviewed the book, that in the starting few chapters, the pace of the story is quite slow. It does feel a little info-dumpy and even all the helpful definitions of the runes and sigils or symbols at the start of the book, don’t ease out the amount of information that is given for each ritual. Sometimes it can get confusing for readers too, if you’re used to a single genre. Since this series is a mix of fantasy and science fiction both. But once you get a hang of it, its doesn’t bother much.
The finale has a lot, and I mean a lot of action. And really gory action. Picture Wolverine tearing down his enemies. Something like that, with a lot more gore I think. The entire series is in fact packed with action and some really detailed fight scenes. So if action is your thing, you might enjoy this series.
Roxanne is relentless. But even though she is a preternatural being, she feels very human. Her best friends are humans after all. I loved the return of some of my favorite characters in the finale – Zantry, Diggy, Vicky, Mwara, Dathana and my favorite of all, Frizz. I also mourned the loss of some of the characters as much as Roxanne does. I won’t let out any spoilers, but I cried in that last scene. But there are a lot of other characters and multiple worlds, dimensions, that I didn’t feel connected to as much. Like the Sidhe queens or the Enclave members. The hunters – Roland maybe was OK, but I found all the side characters and new characters that were introduced in the finale too many to keep track of. That over whelmed me a little.
All in all, I enjoyed this series a lot and will miss the gritty and relentless Roxanne.
It has been over three years since Roxanne donned the mantle of Remo's familiar. Over three years in a stark, cold world obeying his every whim, following his every command, suffering and becoming the monster she always feared she would. She hunts for him, kills, and brings things through the portals that have no place here. Beings that will swell his ranks and create a force to be reckoned with. His latest task, however, will return her to Earth, back to the people she loves. But Remo never does anything without a reason. Roxanne knows if she is returning to Earth it is to further his ambition beyond the duty she has been given. For Earth, but three weeks have passed, three short weeks. Roxanne knows she must do everything in her power to protect those she loves, the world itself, but she must be clever, she cannot risk being discovered, risk tell Remo of her plans or those made by the Hunters who will try to stop him. Time is running out, the clock is ticking, and in the blink of an eye she could become the enemy, betray her friends, and bring devastation to the world. Can anything she do make a difference, can anything stand against a force so powerful? Find out in the gripping conclusion, don't look away.
Jina S. Bazzar's Heir of Fury is book three in the Roxanne Fosch files. I will be quite honest, this urban paranormal had me hooked from the first book. I read a lot, as such I normally start a series and flag book two for a later read if I really enjoyed it. That just wasn't an option was this. I was so invested in the characters I read the entire series one book after the other within the space of 4 days. In fact, with book three I read it yesterday, staying up until some forsaken hour just to see how it ended. Every minute was it worth it. Everything about this author's work strikes a chord, the characters are realistic, their plights relatable, their journey unmissable. Roxanne struggles through the countless trials, insecurities, and the danger of being bound to Remo while trying to find a way to not only stop him in a way that is beyond his notice but a means to shatter the familiar bond tying her to him, a bond that with a single command could have her destroying everything and everyone she holds dear. The supporting cast is amazing, vivid characters with their own stories and distinctive personalities. Then of course, if action, danger, mythical beings, preternatural creatures and a race against time plot isn't enough, there's romance, a sweet, burning, passionate and heart-fluttering romance that as a reader you really feel and pine for. This series gets my full heartfelt recommendation, it is so alive with incredible descriptions and palpable emotions not to mention a flowing first-person narrative and engaging plot and sub plots for me this series became an addiction and I will confess to getting a little annoyed when anyone dared interrupt me because this is one book, one series, I didn't want to put down.
Heir of Fury is the final installment in the Fosh trilogy, (but let’s not forget about The Curse, which is sort of a prequel to the series) and it’s executed perfectly! Talk about a powerful wrap of Roxanne Fosh’s tale. It’s been a while since I read the first two books, plus The Curse, so it took me about a quarter of the way in to really be consumed by the story as a whole. Jina S. Bazzar does a wonderful job at summing up what’s happened previously, so it doesn’t take too long to remember all the details. However, it’s important to remember that there are a LOT of details. So I’d recommend starting with The Curse and then reading all the way through consecutively.
Roxanne Fosh is a transformer, her blood line purposfully put together for a higher purpose… but she’s oh so much more than that! She’s a powerful tool used by the nasty and extremely powerful Remo whose mission is basically to wipe out his enemy’s no matter what the cost or who else dies in the process. He’s an opener of portals, ruler of realms, and basically the head of everything evil. In book 2 Roxanne becomes his familiar, made to execute his orders without question or remorse. For the last three years, she’s done just that. But, because time isn’t exactly the same where she’s been as it is on earth, she returns to find that she’s only been away from her Earthly home for three weeks in human time. However, nothing is the same, and Roxanne is determined to do what’s necessary to get to the bottom of whatever Remo is using her for.
What I love about Roxanne is that she’s crafty and calculated. She’s careful about what she reveals to who, allowing her to follow Remo’s orders all the while stirring up her own intention of his defeat. There’s mystery, betrayal, action, magic, and even romance. This trilogy is truly the whole package for anyone who enjoys reading about outer worlds, Madges, Weres, Vamps, Shapshifters, Witches, and more… so much more!
I’m sad to see this thrilling fantasy end. Ms. Bazzar wraps up the third book of the trilogy, Heir of Fury, perfectly. She resolves past issues in Roxanne Fosch, her strong, kick-ass female protagonist’s life. And thrust characters into life-or-death battles, all the while adding passion and romance amidst upheaval and uncertainty.
Finally, Roxanne learns the truth about her birth mother, which explains why she’s an outcast among the preternatural. The third book picks up where the second book ended. Roxanne is still doing Remo’s evil biddings as his familiar, not willingly. Yet again, Roxanne and the Hunters are on another mission - to thwart Remo and his minions’ reign of terror. As always, Roxanne and her friends fight gruesome battles, switching back and forth to powerful preternatural shapes to overcome their enemies.
As she battles darkness, there’s light in Roxanne’s life - a new love interest with the gorgeous preternatural Zantry. Their connection is strong enough to break through otherworldly portals and produce preternatural energy between them when they come together. Ms. Bazaar carefully crafts desire between Roxanne and Zantry from chapter to chapter, culminating in a steamy union and eternal love.
Ms. Bazzar could have concluded the trilogy in several ways, but she chose a perfect ending, leeway to perhaps more Roxanne Fosch in the future. The trilogy is a must-read for fans of action-packed fantasy, great world-building, and a badass female protagonist. Ms. Bazzar, thank you for an amazing read!
I want to thank the author for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. If you have read this trilogy you probably want to steer clear of this review because it is the last book in the trilogy so there could be potential spoilers.
I had to get reacquainted with some of the characters to begin with because it has been a while since I read the previous book. It didn't take to long to remember who was who though. This book take place 3 years after the events of the previous book or just a few weeks after the events depending on what realm you're in.
The first 2 books were action packed so that's what I went in expecting with this book. The first 50% of this book was slow going. it kind of felt like an info dump. We are basically just reading Roxanne telling multiple different groups about what Remo has taught her and what they have been doing. Which isn't really boring but to me it dragged on because I was ready for the epic showdown. Speaking of the showdown there was a lot of build up to it and it was action packed and very bloody. There were some twists thrown in that I didn't see coming at all.
I know it sounds like I didn't like the book but I did. The author has done a great job developing the characters throughout the books, the world building is well done and imaginative the romance was amazing and to be honest I would have loved more on that because I love me some romance.
Heir Of Fury (The Roxanne Fosch Files Book 3) by Jina S. Bazzar is an amazing story I had the privilege to read. This is book number three in this amazing series that I have loved reading and I just can not get enough from this amazing author. I highly recommend this story to everyone.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Roxanne is just as fierce as she was in Heir of Doom, but also balanced out a little more making her more relatable for me. This is a complex story that has all the intricate details working together beautifully.
A virtual round of applause to Jina Bazzar for creating such a wonderful trilogy that kept me intrigued, (figuratively) on my toes, and wowed me every time I picked up one of these books.
This book introduces you to Roxanne Fosch's new task for Remo - back on Earth. New even more dangerous challenges arise and the question of 'who is friend or foe' is not answered easily - yet vital.
With "Heir of Fury", Jina S. Bazzar presents us with the third instalment of "The Roxanne Fosch Files" series. This is the third - and unfortunately, the last book in the series, with a complex protagonist on a quest for answers, tasks from Remo as well as from the Hunters, while having to face unexpected challenges and enemies. The story is cleverly elaborated, comprises interesting turns, and has a great flow. Jina S. Bazzar introduces each character with care, providing them with sufficient depth for their respective relevance. I was drawn into the story right away - as Roxanne's invisible friend. I could easily envision the characters and locations - with amazing colour intensity. I had a great time reading "Heir of Fury". I have to admit that there were tears when I reached the end of the book, experiencing a sadness similar to losing a friend. I fully comprehend the author's statement at the beginning of the acknowledgements: "I never thought saying goodbye to fictional characters would be as hard as saying goodbye to a loved one. But it is, and by the time I finished typing "The End", I was both sad and excited."
This is for you if you like urban fantasy, likeable characters, surprises, and excellent storytelling.
This was an exciting and well written end to the trilogy. Roxanne had so many odds stacked against that I constantly wondered how the story could possibly end well. I savored this book before gobbling up the final chapters in one sitting.
This author astounds me! This author astonishes me at her ability to wring out all the feels! This author is one of those MUST READ authors! Whenever I start a book written by this esteemed author, I fall into a dead zone, I hear nothing, see nothing, only the words before me as I'm transported into a majestic world, a world so full of colour, I cling on, finally emerging, stunned by the magnitude of the story, clutching the book to my chest, a hurricane of emotions coursing through me, as I let the HEA wash over me like a warm ray of sunshine.
This book started off with a bang, with Roxanne playing a dangerous game, a game of balance and a game she's not sure she can win. The twists and blows didn't let up, not for a second! First off, this is one of the more unusual plots I've read, refreshingly so. Yes, we have a fabulous magic system, yes we have magical beings, yes we even have a shifter or two or three but the delivery. OMG the delivery is crafted so lovingly complex that each new occurrence, each new turn, threw me off centre, I was drooling from my mouth hanging open. I couldn't pinpoint what would transpire next, just as I thought I'd got it figured out, a stroke of Ms Bazzar's pen showed me just how silly I was to assume... anything!
From the characters, to the storytelling, I was agog. When you're presented with real characters, albeit fictional but reeking of realism, who make mistakes, who are faliable, who strive to do the right thing, who fail and fall time and again but dust themselves off and plough back in, well that right there is realistic. But it's not one individual nor one single event that stood out, it's the merging of it all, so seamlessly yet convoluted at the same time. Roxanne is still a firm favourite, she is one I'd be honoured to call a friend, she gives her all for those she loves, irrespective of the consequences. And heck, if I thought I loved Zantry before, well shoot, I'm obsessed with him now! I'm obsessed with this series...
There were some real knife to my gut moments, so wraught was I, I wanted to sob. And I did, unashamedly. Though this is a read that veers on the dark side, the hope, the thread of light, emblazes the text. The feeling of belonging, being of value is slowly becoming a reality for Roxanne, not the neferious value everyone seems to want to thrust upon her, the likes of Vicky, Vincent, Diggy and most of all Zantry show her she IS important for more than just a scheme. Oh lordie, oh heavens, towards the end of the book my heart nearly stopped a few times. The shocking truth comes out, the shocking betrayals come out, I was flabbergasted! I was so caught up in the tension and the action, my jaw ached from clenching. But hells bells, WHAT A RIDE! What a fabulous read!
So, to get back to my earlier statement, I honest to goodness did not surface until I'd finished the book. Not only that, it took me a while to gather my thoughts, to try to convey the expanse of this book and series. So, if you want to be blown away, to experience a thrill a minute, you need to read this series and it also begs the question, if you haven't, whatever not?
This book! Wow! As the final book in the Roxanne Fosch Files I was expecting a very dramatic ending but what Jina S Bazzar gave me was beyond my wildest imaginings, and is one of the best books I've read this year.
Roxanne has undergone so much growth over the course of the series that she is practically a different person. I love her stoicism as she now admits " 'I don't know what's right or wrong anymore.' ". The author has built an incredibly twisted, cruel bus to throw her under....and watching her struggle to protect what she loves while being a servant to a Machiavellian magical being makes for high energy reading. The tension is off the charts through most of the chapters and I was happily caught up in every moment of it!
The supporting cast are all strong and well crafted. They play their parts perfectly, adding so much depth to the already astounding plot. Blending UF and fantasy provides an enormous blank canvas for storylines and I found the result incredibly satisfying as a fan of both genres.
I don't know if this author is a plotter or freakishly talented pantser, but the mystery elements are brilliant. And the magic! Amazing! To have them come together so well in this final book, and be put on the page in the author's beautiful, concise and vivid prose is a real narrative gift.
I appreciate the reward of a good epilogue after an emotional journey and this one did not disappoint.
This is a gripping, intense story and I absolutely recommend it for fans of gritty UF who enjoy a side of character growth and strong relationships.
Remo has sent Roxanne home to bring him more vessels to help him accomplish his tasks. Roxanne has been working for Remo as his familiar for three years, but for people on Earth, she has only been gone for about three weeks.
Roxanne wants to help the people on Earth, but she can only do so much. Remo has control of her and won't allow her to tell all his secrets, even if she knows them. Roxanne is a tough lady and will fight Remo with all she has to help the humans fight for what is right and keep Remo from taking control.
Heir of Fury kept me glued to my seat, racing to the end as I wanted to know it all now. From beginning to end, I tried to figure out what was going to happen next, but each time, I was surprised by what did happen. The many twists and turns helped to keep the pages turning.
The descriptions were so well done that I felt as if I was a part of the story. I love the world created for The Roxanne Fosch Files, with so many paranormal creatures living together in the same universe. The action kept ramping up with all the battles. I hated to see the end of The Roxanne Fosch Files. I am going to miss all the characters.
I highly recommend Heir of Fury to all paranormal fans! Grab a copy today!
Heir of Fury by Jina S. Bazzar is the final book in the Roxanne Fosch Files series. In this book, Roxanne is struggling to come to terms with life as Remo Drammen’s familiar. When she realizes that Drammen is going to start a war that will have implications for the preternatural, Fee and human worlds, she must work with the Hunters to stop it.
This was an exciting and action packed conclusion to the Roxanne Fosch Files series.
I thought the intersection of the Hunter, Remo Drammen and Seelie Court plots was incredibly interesting. It was really fascinating to see how all of the facets of Roxanne’s life connect. This was different than the previous books in the series, where the plot lines were distinct from each other.
There were several plot twists in the novel that I did not see coming. I was really surprised by the unexpected traitor that was in the Hunter’s midst. There were also multiple major character deaths and I am still not over Frizz’s death.
Finally, I enjoyed seeing Roxanne and Zantry’s relationship evolve. I was really glad that they got their happy ending and discovered their mating bond.
This series is a hot mess. I persevered through the first two books, hoping it would all come together in the last book, but I just have a lot of questions. I had no idea what was going on a solid chunk of the time I was listening to this book. The time shifts weren’t even the confusing parts. Ultimately, it’s lazy writing to have your heroine do all of her learning and growing between books. We missed the best parts to truly understand the character and what’s happening in her world. The relationships are all flat. It’s almost like three entirely different versions of the same story instead of three cohesive books. Book one was painfully slow but showed potential. Book two was attempting to fill all the gaps left in book one while still trying to advance the plot. Book three reads like the author decided at the last minute to condense a five book series into a trilogy. I’m annoyed, clearly, and I could go on, but I won’t. Just needed to throw a fit about it for a minute.
I had to gather my thoughts before reviewing this one. Intense! But, spoiler alert, happy ending (phew!). Everything that has been building in the first two books comes together beautifully. My one niggle is that the ending felt a bit rushed. My mind was still stuck on the events long after they were over in the book, and I would have liked a bit more detail (cannot write too much or I’ll spoil it). There can simply never be enough of this story and these characters. They live in my mind now and my mind needs more. A beautiful trilogy, one of Jina’s best! Maybe even The Best. Go read it!
