The Federal Theatre project is a subject interests me quite a lot, therefore a book full with the facts of its short, history-making run should become an instant favorite. Sorry. The author, who was involved in the Federal Theatre from 1935 to its demise in 1939, correctly and competently records its story, but his narration is very dry, conveying none of the excitement that was surely rampant in those days of theater for the people. Having seen both the movie and the stage play of The Cradle Will Rock I expected more -- and should have gotten it.
