From USA Today bestselling author Daphne Loveling, comes a new standalone novel, and the first book in the Ironwood MC series! Biker. Criminal. Bastard. Rourke Powers is all those things, and more.
To say we come from different worlds is an understatement. I’m ambitious. Professional. I keep my nose clean and my reputation impeccable. No bad choices. No bad boys. The VP of the Ironwood Lords of Carnage? Definitely not part of the plan.
But when fate slams us together, to protect someone we both care about It’s impossible to deny the heat between us.
Whoever said opposites attract? They’re not wrong. He’s confident and cocky. Deliciously dangerous. Definitely doable. He’s fire to my ice. Bad boy to my good girl.
Unfortunately for me, he’s damn near irresistible. But I will resist him. I have to.
I know from bitter experience, men in general can’t be trusted. Even the ones who look squeaky clean can harbor dark secrets underneath.
And Rourke? He doesn’t even try to hide his dangerous side.
I’m so tempted to give him my body. But I’ll never trust Rourke with my heart.
USA Today bestselling author of alpha males, feisty females, and smoking hot romance.
Small town girl in the big city. Incurable romantic. Hopeless optimist in a realist's body.
Owned by two cats.
A sucker for a bad boy with a soft center.

Iron Will was the first book within the spinoff series, Lords of Carnage Ironwood MC by Daphne Loveling.
Rourke Powers was a patched MC member. He grew up poor and abused and had a heart for those in circumstances similar to his childhood.
Delaney “Laney” Hart was a social worker at the local hospital. She had quite the baggage through her socialite family that she left behind in her home town, but she loved helping families and making a difference.
Rourke and Laney met at the hospital. They were exact opposites in every way but had chemistry. Loveling took us through the plot conflict as well as their relationship development.
I’m a huge Lords of Carnage fan but I was craving more with this spinoff. I desired more depth and the storyline was confusing at times. It also had quite a few editing errors.
In the end, it was a quick read and introduced some of the MC members we can expect to see in the future. I’m still a huge Loveling fan; this just wasn’t my favorite to date.
I think I would listen to Troy Duran read anything, well almost, when he is mad or bossy oh my goodness it’s sexy as fuck! The writing was typical and per usual with this author. Troy Duran and Anastasia Watley FIVE STARS. Book 3 stars.
There was a lot of hype on TikTok about this series, but particularly this book, so I gave it a try.
This book was so boring, like the plot is not even about the main MCs is about this girl who fell, the whole story revolves around her, her mother and the mother’s boyfriend but they only appear a handful of times.
OMG... A great new series from Daphne Loveling. If you love MC romance books you know about Daphne Loveling's MC books then. I was going to read this book on KU but I waited as I won a free copy from her newsletter.. thanks so much for free book MS. Loveling! This is a spin off from her Lords of Carnage's series taking place in Ironwood. This story shows how you grow up and how your raised has no bearing on what kind of a person you will be IF you want to change your life for the better. You will have to decide which one I'm talking about there 😉. Always believe in yourself and never let anyone take advantage of you... This book is HOTT but has all the feel goods in it... For adults only!!! You don't have to read the first series first but I always try to. . Better that way. I highly recommend this book and this author
I love MC reads! I love strong fierce men who ride motorcycle that appear rough but love strong! What I'm not a huge fan of is drugs, selling and distributing them. I know MC's seem to talk about selling drugs, guns etc a lot.🤷 sue me but that's an automatic neg for me. Throw in just decent characters and story with unbelievable context ( Senator's daughter living with zero security & dating a biker) and you get just an ok read in my opinion. Not a series I'll continue reading. Kudos to the author for putting her book and art out there just not my jam. ✌
3.4 stars. It was good. But it was missing some meat. Like. What exactly was the point of showing us the whole thing with the cartel when it didn’t matter? Maybe it’ll be for the next book or something but it just didn’t feel like it needed to be there. And their relationship was just lacking some spark or something. There was some chemistry but it just didn’t feel like they ever actually got to where they needed to be by the end of it.
Arc review For honest review. While visiting bear at Morningside hospital Vic President of the Lord's of carnage Rourke meets 7 years old paisley in need of protection but when social worker Delaney comes to check up on her fire work exploded between Rourke and delaney. What a awsome story I love these characters with bad boy says and hearts of gold.
Iron Will by Daphne Loveling Narrated by Troy Duran and Anastasia Watley 3.5 stars rounded up affiliate links
Iron Will was another book picked up before seeing the author at a book signing. I didn’t realize that it was the first in a spin-off series, so I probably would have enjoyed it even more had I read the Lords of Carnage Series. But I still really enjoyed this one!
To me, this book was more about 7-year-old Paisley and her mom than the couple. The little girl’s mom left her “home” in a motel with her abusive boyfriend, and when little Paisley went to do laundry to get away from him, she fell down the stairs and wound up in the hospital.
Roark is the VP of a Motorcycle Club and is at the hospital visiting a brother who was stabbed when he hears a commotion in the hall—Paisley’s mom’s boyfriend making a scene. He notices how the girl reacts to him and makes it his mission to keep this guy away from the little girl at all costs.
The couple isn’t who you’d think, Paisley’s mom and Roark. Nope, it’s the socialite social worker on Paisley’s case.
I love a protective guy and really liked Roark, but I felt like they didn’t get enough page time as a couple, it was more about the girl and her mom. Still, I enjoyed the read and would listen to more in this series.
The Narration: Troy Duran had a great biker voice and Anastasia Watley had the perfect voice of a composed professional. I think their narration added to the story.
Rating: 3.5 Stars, 4 Heat, 5 Narration

ᗒ NFM ᗕ ★ This was not for me. Didn't hit on the characters I care about (or believe) level, the story level, the spicy sexy times level. Don't get me started on the amazing coincidences levels here that are off the charts. This just missed for me in every way.
THOUGHTS Rourke Powers, MMC, is the vice president of the Lords of Carnage in Ironwood, (aka hot tatted, leather wearing, motorcycle driving, good guy). While hanging out at the hospital as one of his MC brothers recovers, meets a hurt and recovering 6yo girl who obviously needs help from her mom's shitty one-dimensional no good, boyfriend. Because, ya know, he's a good guy, he steps in to protect the little girl in her hospital room by punching out the skeezy dude. In the aftermath of punching out the smarm, he meets the hospital social worker, super hottie, Laney Hart.
Ok. So FMC, Laney is the daughter of a senator in a state over. She is being sexually harassed by her hospital boss. She's trying to do all the good, but it's harrrrrd. Her bestie is a nurse at the hospital who doesn't really seem to be a best friend in any way. 🙄
Sooooo MMC, Rourke is a good man, who is also doing *criminal things* at the Carnage Ironwood MC. And by that I mean there's a cartel situation and their "shipment". Whiiiich I think means distributing drugs? And Laney, FMC, never asks about this or seems to care that he is LITERALLY a criminal and she is ya know, politician daughter, who is a do-gooder. Distributing DRUGS and KILLING PEOPLE, but no biggie because he's got a hot hog and a hot 🍆. I cannot.
Also, side bar of unbelievableness, he's been having sex with all the club kitties for years and years... but this uptight hospital social worker makes him completely change and fall madly in love. And also there's no club kitty drama... which is fine, but if he's that hot and the VP, no lady at the club wants that and thinks she should get to have him? 🙄🙄🙄
Besides the lameness of the story overall, the sexy parts aren't all that spicy.
🌶️ Spicy Level: 2 / 5 🔥 How much spice: 2 / 5 💥 M/F {My spicy scale: 5 = pure, full-on spice-all-the-time/erotica and 1 = closed door}
👀 POV: 1st person, both MCs
WHAT YOU’RE IN FOR: 💠 an opportunity to assess your limits of suspension of disbelief 💠 absurd caricatures masquerading as characters with substance 💠 gold hearts x 2 (MMC, mc vp with a heart of gold and FMC hospital social worker with a heart of gold)
🎧Audiobook Narrator(s): ✅ Troy Duran (I found this book because of him) ✅ Anastasia Watley (did a great job)
He's a biker and she's a social worker - together they're a match made in heaven - right?
Eh... sort of.
It was okay - I'll be 100% honest as say the reason this made my tbr was Troy Duran - I'd listen to a lot with that man's voice plot or no plot. This one had a sort of plot - a few things seemed to be completley unnessecary ( the whole cartel meeting and shoot out was random? do they turn up again in future books?)
I wasn't convinced by their love story if I'm being honest. I get she's the jaded daughter of a senator from a state or so over and wants to escape her emotionally abusive and oppressive father and family but the fact she nevers asks for more informtion about Rourke and his criminal lifestyle seems naive. i'm not saying I wouldn't be whisked off my feet by a hot biker either, but I'd least want a conversation about what I was signing myself up for first. They had some chemistry and maybe if the story wasn't over course of around a week (maybe two?) I could believe that they developed more than a desire to rip each others clothes off. I was semi-invested in the sub-plot of helping the child and her mother and understand that the other members mentioned will likely be features in upcoming books...
Also, I know it's a book and fiction - but she's one of the least busy social workers I've ever met!
Rourke is a badass biker and Laney is a sexy social worker. Their paths cross when Paisley is admitted to the hospital after a nasty fall. Laney and Rourke are forced to work together to her Paisley and her mom out from under an abusive boyfriends. If you love SOA you will love this, Rourke is basically Jax.The story was sweet and had some good messages throughout. Not as spicy as I would have liked but still an easy read!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It wasn’t too long or too short. The storyline was exciting and entertaining, and I loved the characters. Overall, I really loved this book.
I decided to read this book after finishing the original Lords of Carnage MC series, however this book is set some time after book 7 in that series (I think). This book stands alone without the original series, but it’s enjoyable to read the other books first to give a background to some of the characters and the world in which they live.
Once I started reading this book I realised I read it when it first came out but it hadn’t registered on Goodreads for some reason. I still enjoyed the book the second time around as it’s entertaining and enjoyable.
Rourke is a member of the Lords of Carnage Ironwood MC and is visiting his fellow member Bear in hospital after he was stabbed. When he hears a commotion he gets involved in protecting a young girl from her mother’s boyfriend and after spending a little time with the girl decides to get more involved with her long term protection.
Laney is the hospital social worker and she is involved in trying to help this little girl and meets Rourke during her first visit. Laney was raised to be a ‘proper’ young lady and her parents are horrified that she is a social worker as they think she should just be a society wife. Sparks fly between Laney and Rourke and they start spending time together.
I like these two characters and their supporting cast. Laney is determined, compassionate and strong and Rourke is actually fairly similar. For two people with such different financial backgrounds, they had quite similar family situations during childhood. This makes them both protective of others. When looking at their personalities and history they are less opposite than would be thought at first.
As I said above, this is a very entertaining read. I read it one sitting and enjoyed it. It’s not very challenging and though there are disturbing subjects raised, they are handled in a way that prevents any kind of darkness to infiltrate the story. By writing things with an unclean edge the author prevents the story from being boring or twee.
I will definitely be reading the next book in the series, which is already out, in preparation for the third book which will hopefully be coming soon.
I found this book to be misleading. The description just didn't seem to match up with what was actually the book. It started out that way but then it turned. I mean it says she won't trust him with her heart but then they go out & it's like she's head over heels for him. Plus all the typos not a lot to take away from the story but enough to annoy me. Not bad but I really don't understand all the 5 stars. So not a waste but nothing exciting about it either, so read if you have nothing better to do.
Rourke & Laney. This book was really boring. The first 50% of the book was centered around a little girl that was in the hospital and that Rourke had befriended and wanted to provide her safety. Story didn't work for me and the romance between Rourke & Laney was lacking. The club business was also boring and I felt no connection between club members. Hopefully series will be better with next book.
This was a book that was picked as one of the book of the months in one of the discord servers I'm in. I didn't have any expectations going in, but I still found myself very disappointed. This book felt like it was telling me everything instead of showing it to me. Which when done right, it can be great. I just really didn't enjoy this book. I wish I enjoyed it more, but I can't bring myself to give it a higher rating.
I really liked this MC read. Rourke and Laney are great characters with steamy chemistry. Their story is filled with intense drama and emotion. Paisley is such a wonderful little girl and I am glad that Rourke and Laney have her back. This read keeps you hooked from beginning to end, a roller coaster ride of twists and turns. A good read.
Rourke and Laney will have wanting more and more of their action packed romance with lots of steamy scenes and the words and the story flow so well. It pulls you right in and don't let go till the end. Can't wait to read more from this author.
Boring, mc mills n boon book. 12 chapters and literally nothing has happened. They've not even had a club party with club girls, seriously what kind of biker book is this?
Overall, the book was decent and it was a quick read. It was instalove, which I don't usually like but I expect it when I read MC romances, so I knew it was coming and didn't mind it. For some reason, when there is instalove in MC books I don't mind but if it's in pretty much any other book, then I hate it.
The characters were likeable enough. I'm not sure if I'll continue the series, I don't think I'm invested enough to care. I do think the book could've had some more scenes exploring the brotherhood in the MC to make me more invested in the characters in the other books.
The ending felt very abrupt. The book feels like it just stopped in the middle since there was still quite a bit of drama and unanswered questions. Then it jump to the epilogue where they just speed run through all the loose ends and just tell us what happens in a list form instead of actually reading about it happening. Some ot the things I would be fine with being listed off like the side character's stuff, but there was other stuff I cared about that would've been nice to read about. It just felt like an info dump, which I didn't like. She even meets his sister off page and I was actually hoping to see their interaction but the author did think it was more important to include one more sex scene instead of reading about the loose ends being tied up so... it just didn't feel necessary to me. That's the only stuff I didn't like about the book, otherwise I enjoyed it.
The drama the MC was involved in wasn't resolved, but I assume it will be in another book.
Iron Will by Daphne Loveling, despite its intriguing blurb, ultimately fails to deliver on the gritty, dark romance promised, presenting a narrative that often deviates from its initial setup and genre expectations.
While the blurb positions Rourke Powers as a "biker, criminal, bastard," his portrayal within the novel leans more towards a compassionate "sweetheart" who readily aids the vulnerable, significantly undermining the "bastard" label.
Similarly, the implied struggle of the heroine, Laney, to "resist him" is largely absent, with her resistance barely extending beyond their initial encounter.
The book's classification as a "dark romance" feels misplaced, as it reads closer to a "light shade of grey," and its "suspense" tag is tenuous, supported by only a single scene, missing the raw "grit" typically found in most MC storylines.
The plot also suffers from notable plausibility issues; it strains belief that a wealthy social worker could effortlessly integrate into an outlaw biker world or readily accept drug dealing, and Laney's decision to walk away from a harassing boss, despite her professional capacity to address the issue and her knowledge of other victims, further undermines the narrative's realism
Consequently, "Iron Will" struggles to meet the expectations set by its compelling synopsis and genre labels, leaving readers with a narrative that feels less intense and more inconsistent than anticipated.
I honestly expected better. Not much MC action at all. The story was more about a kid who had a possibly abusive step-dad and how a biker and social worker both wanted to protect her.
1. While the mom's boyfriend was a piece of trash. There should have been more proof of him being a danger to Paisley. She had a prior injury that the hospital thought he probably did and the mom finally said he did, but was an accident. He wasn't outwardly threatening at all and most of the danger was assumed by Rourke and not shown to the reader.
2. A. The boyfriend stole the moms car. Why not have her press charges for that? B. The mom was a moron that knew Mickey was a piece of garbage. She STILL got worked up when he was arrested.
3. I really didn't feel the connection between Laney and Rourke. The chemistry was very blah.
4. Alot of telling and not showing in this story.
5. Listened on Audible and wasn't a fan of the female narrator.
