In a split-second, a car crash killed almost everything between them. Ten years later, can one accidental ride fix tattered spirits, uncertain futures, and broken hearts?
Lily Grantham has always done what she’s been told. The daughter of a senator, she grew up as the good girl of Fawn Hill, and carried that torch right on through to adulthood. Her only wild streak? Bowen Nash. She loved that boy since the day they laid eyes on each other, and it nearly ended them both. A decade later, and Lily still can’t move on. Even if Bowen has made it clear he doesn’t love her anymore.
Bowen Nash never wanted the life he’s trapped in. Destined for baseball fame and the love of his high-school sweetheart, that existence vanished in the flip of an old pickup. Now, he’s stuck in the town that produced his worst nightmare. Pretending to hate Lily Grantham guts him day in and day out. But to protect her from the ultimate secret, it’s necessary to break his own heart each time they pass on the street.
They’ve been fighting fate for as long as it’s been chasing them. And now, time is up.
Author of romance novels such as Fleeting and Love at First Fight, Carrie Aarons writes books that are just as swoon-worthy as they are sarcastic. Her stories are fueled by vanilla lattes, meloncholy music, and copious amounts of candles.
When she isn't writing, Carrie is busy binging reality TV, having a love/hate relationship with cardio, and trying not to burn dinner. She lives in farm country with her husband, two children and ninety-pound rescue pup.
“How do you feel about pink?” Penelope asks our bride. “The same way you feel about spring break with all three of your kids at home.” Presley chuckles, taking a sip of her champagne. Our resident mother warrior shudders. “Don’t even joke about that. It’s like surviving a nuclear fallout. There is cereal and poop and Legos everywhere.”
He couldn’t locate that thing with a flashlight and a search and rescue team at his disposal… I don’t understand what’s so difficult about it. We have a button, right at the top, full of nerves. It literally sticks out just for them to find. Some men, I swear!
Books never stopped calling, they didn’t act like a jerk, and they certainly were there in all times of need. Yeah, I’d rather spend time with my favorite characters than people any day of the week.
I didn’t even really care about politics. It was all a bunch of stuffy old men in suits arguing about where money should go.
She’s gotta be whip-smart. And she looks like she could either hand me my balls or take real good care of them.
My Review:
I had greatly enjoyed the vivacious feel and levity to Fleeting, the first book in this series, but my enthusiasm did not hold up with this sequel. However, it could well be my issue as unfortunately, the author decided to utilize several of my least favorite tropes, which had me sighing and rolling my eyes; why do authors recycle these tiresome angsty themes, why?
Nor were the main characters all that appealing to me, Lily was essentially missing a backbone and sold herself out with a smile for her corrupt political family, I am rather amazed the poor girl could walk and sit up straight being without a spine and all. Bowen had been surly for a decade while being blackmailed with a supposed dark secret – a secret that seemed hardly worth the effort and inadequate for the purpose. But worse than that, his behavior toward Lily was vile and deplorable; I would have given him free neutering service had he talked to me that way.
My respite from complete and total exasperation was provided by the continuing storylines and amusing banter with and between the secondary characters. I enjoyed the story once the secret was outed and the heavy curtain of angst was lifted. I’m hoping book three brings back the joy with a more authentic and entertaining premise.
Sweet, angsty, the kind of small town romance that sweeps your problems away for a little bit. Forgiven is the second chance romance that readers will read and get that finally feeling. Ten years have passed since the accident, since Bowen walked away and Lily was left with a broken heart and no reason that she can find. Bowen Nash and Lily Grantham are meant to be, but there's secrets and heartache between them that neither are prepared to face. When Lily's best friend and Bowen's brother select the two to be their maid and man of honor, it's the push they both need to face one another. As Lily starts to question Bowen's hatred of her, Bowen realizes that maybe holding onto the past isn't worth losing the girl he never stopped loving.
I have to admit, I was prepared for a sweet romance and while we got that, Carrie Aarons gave me what I really wanted, a whole lot of angst. Second-chance romances just aren't right without the characters dealing with the hurt between them and I hate when issues are resolved easily. I honestly wasn't sure these two would find a way to work out, Lily has been beat down by it for so long and Bowen had turned quite surly, but they still fit together like puzzle pieces. Lily isn't the same girl she used to be in high school, her independence giving her the ability to pursue Bowen relentlessly. And Bowen, though successful in his own way, has really allowed the past and his self hatred to hold him back. Lily's pursuit shakes things up for Bowen, he either has to run or face the music, and that felt realistic to me as a reader. It isn't easy of course, her pursuit often makes her hurt more, but it also restarts the longing in Bowen's heart. It's a kind of push and pull, but as they give in and Bowen reveals the truth they finally realize the blame should've never lied on the two of them at all.
I docked half a star due to the situation that keeps the two apart. Looking at it from their youthful perspectives, it makes sense that it's what started it all, but as adults I had a hard time believing it was viewed as serious as it was. I think the time they spent apart was so long and though I'm glad they finally faced it, it made me sort of sad for the time they lost and the built up anger that Bowen had. I might have docked more had Carrie Aarons not made them tackle the issue over the entire length of the book, allowing them to restart their relationship and strengthen their bonds once more.
Forgiven is a story of love, loss, and forgiveness and it'll tick off all the boxes for the angst lovers out there. It is the second novel in the Nash Brothers series and so far my favorite. Carrie Aarons has created a small town series with all the drama, friendships, and relationships readers' hearts could desire, plus the brothers are handsome and the girls are fiercely independent. The entire series is the kind of romance readers root for.
I was so excited for these two's story. I am a complete sucker for second chance romances and I knew this one was going to be good and possibly my favorite of the whole four books!
Bowen and Lily wow, you could feel the love and the angst from a far. And when you got close, it hurt so bad! Since book 1, I wanted to know what really happened between these two and why Bowen had to stay away and the answers didn't come soon enough but they came at the right time.
Watching Bowen struggle with their past and their present was so hard and when I learned the truth, I wanted to riot for these two. It was so unfair that they lost 10 years together for the reason they did. This book is emotional and you'll want to both hit Bowen for what he puts Lily through but also cuddle him the whole way through because of how much he hurts. There was no denying how much these two still loved each other and longed to be together again. It was truly a beautiful and emotional story that I loved with all my heart.
Possibly my fav book of the series but more on that soon.
Forgiven is sweet tale of second chances between Lily and Bowen. The book is even short is a quick and sexy read without too many surprises and unnecessary dramas.
I liked the characters and the romance between them was cute, but I found the reason for their separation so many years ago half-senseless, and we can blame them for being young, but honestly the motive didn't convince. But apart from that and how quickly everything was solved, the book is worth reading for those who like a book without too many dramas with cool characters and a sweet romance
I have been a huge fan of Carrie Aarons since reading The Tenth Girl. Her writing is so engaging, her characters so loveable and the story-lines absolutely addicting. Forgiven was no different. I was hooked from the very first page and could hardly put it down. It was such a refreshing and delightful treat!
Lily and Bowen were high school sweethearts, but that ended abruptly due to the aftermath of a tragic accident. It's been ten long years of little to no contact with no closure in sight. Now due to Presley and Keaton's wedding they are forced together as the maid of honor and best man. The sexual tension and longing between them was so palpable and heartbreaking to watch. Aarons takes us on an emotional journey with this one as we watch the events of the past unfold. Secrets are revealed. Lies and truths are uncovered. Will their love be strong enough to survive it all?
I wasn't a big fan of Bowen after reading Fleeting. I couldn't fathom how he could be so harsh towards Lily when she was supposed to be the love of his life. It frustrated me to no end, but he really redeemed himself in Forgiven. He finally opens up to her and we get to see a whole new side of him. He truly has a heart of gold and his love for Lily was so sweet. I was rooting for these two lovebirds all the way to the end.
All in all, I found Forgiven to be wonderfully written. Despite the emotional punches, it was a quick and easy read. I absolutely fell head over heels for Lily and Bowen, and I know the readers will too. This is a sweet second chance romance that you will not want to miss. ♥
Forgiven is the second book in The Nash Brothers series. It's Bowen and Lily's story, which we got a glimpse of in the first book.
Bowen and Lily have a love that very few find - it's a love that never stops, regardless of how much time has passed; regardless of how many hurt feelings have passed in between. For ten years, Lily and Bowen have been trying to move on with their lives but can't get past what happened so many years ago.
Carrie sets this story up very well, but I was not in love with the reasoning behind the secret. I love that neither Bowen nor Lily ever deny their love for another (at least to themselves). Lily can't move forward because she needs answers that Bowen refuses to give. Bowen can't move forward because his heart belongs to Lily.
The story plays out nicely without a lot of drama. However, when a secret is held for ten years, I expected there to be a bit more drama and for the secret to be a bit more dire than it was. For me, this was the biggest let-down of the book. I loved getting to know Bowen an Lily a bit more and that there attraction wasn't drug out. But I felt that the huge secret and how it all came out was equivalent to a deflating balloon - just meh.
Overall, it was good read but it didn't give me the same vibes as the first book. I know a lot of people will love this one because there is no drama or angst and it's truly a swoony romance. But when you lead the story with a huge secret that has taken ten years away from two people, I wanted there to be a more dramatic flare added in.
Definitely give the book a read - the characters are very likeable and I do love the small, home-town background these books are based around. I will definitely continue on with the series and see Carrie gives us with the twins, Fletcher and Forrest.
He muerto de amor, he reído y he llorado, y esta última demasiado. La historia es tan perfecta con unos personajes que te dejan el corazón en un puño. Solo llevo dos hermanos Nash y me han conquistado el corazón, ya no quiero ni pensar los gemelos. ⚜Rate: ★★★★★
English: "Forgiven" by Carrie Aarons is the second book in the "Nash Brothers" series. Like the previous book, it has been a so sweet and a perfect romance. In this, the focus is on second chances and also enemies-to-lovers, intriguing and at the same time eclipsing.
Lily Graham was born in Fawn Hill, with a family focused on politics and a perfect boyfriend. Until a car accident with her boyfriend makes her whole life change. After being in a coma, her boyfriend disappears from her side. Ten years later, she is still wondering why. For Bowen Nash this accident changed her life and he had to separate himself from the love of his life by force, although after so much time he is unable to forget her and give up loving her.
I loved Lily and Bowen's relationship with their teenage past. Also, the previous book and their respective characters continue in this story in the best way. I thought I was ready for this book, and I was too wrong. The previous book and the relationship between the characters were perfect, but this one is even better, wonderful. I died of love, I laughed and cried, and the latest one too much. The story is so perfect with characters that stole your heart. I only have read two Nash brothers and they have won my heart, I don't even want to think about twins anymore. ⚜Rate: ★★★★★
Ohhhh, I just adored Lily and Bowen's story. It's a second chance romance with angst and a bit of mystery as to what happened to their relationship in the past. I was on pins & needles just waiting to see what was really going on. There were moments where my heart just completely broke for Lily. I really enjoyed watching her find her voice and standing up for herself. There were times where I wanted to kill Bowen with my bare hands, yet... understood the predicament he was in. I enjoyed Fleeting, but this one really had me hooked!
I really like this group of brothers and how different they are from one another. Whereas Keaton was a little awkward and a nice guy, Bowen is a grumpy asshole towards Lily. He essentially ghosted her ten years prior and wouldn't give her a reason for their breakup. In reality, Bowen is staying away from her to protect her from a big secret.
I adored the first half of this book and actually almost teared up from the angst/tension. However, just like the first book, the pacing started to become a bit weird and off. I thought they got back together too quickly and ignored the glaring issues in their relationship, which was evidenced by the drama and push/pull that followed. I could understand why Bowen didn't want to tell her what happened the night of their car accident, but it dragged on for almost the entire book. The secrecy was much more justifiable when they were teenagers but as grown ass adults...not so much. It veered a little on the dramatic side too much IMO and was just a reason to keep them apart.
I wanted more romance, not the secrecy and avoidance. The ending was sweet but somewhat rushed as well. I would recommend to read Fleeting first as family history/relationships aren't fully explained. Overall, I liked the story but wish the pacing had been better. I look forward to continuing on to Forrest and Fletcher's books.
Standalone - Other books within series: Book 1:Fleeting → 3 Stars Book 2:Forgiven → 3.5 Stars Book 3:Flutter → 3.75 Stars Book 4:Falter → 3.5 Stars
“I’ll say it for the thousandth time, but I hope you hear me. I don’t know what it is I did to make you hate me so much, but I’m sorry.”
Lily and Bowen loved each other. They were young, in love, with a life to come. Until a car accident will end Bowen's chances of playing baseball professionally and leave Lily in a coma. Time will heal the physical injuries, but this young love will not survive this thud. Bowen breaks up with Lily giving no explanation, not a single word. Ten years go by. And living in a small town, it is inevitable that that their paths cross, but Bowen will avoid these interactions at all costs, breaking Lily's heart a little more, day after day.
But with Lily's best friend's marriage to Bowen's brother, the two will be forced to come close, and the man who avoid his ex-girlfriend at all costs may be hiding a secret that will further hurt Lily.
I loved the book. The great secret is the main theme of the whole book, the lives of these two have been drastically affected by the wickedness of the people who should love them unconditionally. The great villain, who posed as a man of integrity and principles, fulfilled his role in the story. God! How I hated this man. Bowen's brothers were the icing on the cake.
Lily and Bowen suffered for a lie, paused their lives, never going forward, but in the end life gave a new and much deserved chance to both. Even with such malice, lack of communication and lies love prevails. And that's what matters.
I was not prepared for all the feelings that Forgiven evoked in me. Emotionally, it's like a combination of Down We'll Come Baby and Fleeting - it still holds the small time charm that I loved in from the first book in the series, but it had a level of angst that set it apart from its predecessor. I'm a fan of second chance romances and the intensity of this one was a bit of a gut punch (in the best way possible). Bowen and Lily called to me as characters individually and the urge to root for them to confront and resolve their issues so that they can be happy together is downright irresistible. If you've kept up with my reviews for a while, you'll know that one of my all time pet peeves is lack of communication and since that was a big part of why this couple stayed a part, there were several instances where I found myself fussing at them to just "say something!" Life is too short not to tell people how you really feel. Thank goodness for weddings and scheming family members and loved ones! The thing about books with the appropriate amount of angst is that the emotional payoff for the HEA is that much sweeter and that's the exact result in Forgiven. 4 out of 5 wine glasses.
After getting a few little hints and cues about what was to come from Fleeting (Nash Brothers, Book 1), I just would like to state that I was very excited about this book landing in my kindle library and I was not the least bit disappointed. Lily Grantham, parent pleasing daughter of a senator grew up as a good girl in Fawn Hill. Bowen Nash was her high school sweetheart and in the 10 years since they parted, neither one of them have been ready to move on. Circumstances and small town life keep floating these 2 back to each other and over time, it becomes impossible for them to avoid their feelings any longer. It takes time and trust building for these 2 to find their way back to each other, and once all the secrets of their past are exposed, Bowen may not be able to keep Lily back in his life.
I love love Bowen's dark and broody soul and Lily's light is the perfect compliment for him. Loved this book.
The second book in the series and full of the sweet small town romance and angst. The background between these two characters is full and their growth through the story is everything. Carrie Aarons has definitely convinced me to love small town romances with all the gossip and all the boundary enmeshment of the town folk. Bowen and Lily truly are a remarkable couple and I felt like I wanted to be their best friends while reading this. This book has little hidden punches built in that leave you as a reader wondering when the next shoe will drop
This is the second book in the series and I really enjoyed reading it. It was a sweet, small town Romance. Lily and Bowen go through so much, and have that forever love! A wonderful second chance at love read!
I was really curious to discover Lily’s story after discovering her in Volume 1. We knew that a car accident had separated her from Bowen and that their relationship has been very tense ever since. But here we are, finally learning the truth behind everything and what happened to get there.
Lily doesn’t understand what she did to make Bowen hate her so much. That’s how we’ll follow them both in this story to find out what they think.
We are discovering two broken characters, two characters who cannot overcome what they have experienced together and who know that they are only good when they are together. We learn what separated them and even if it’s very sad, they will try to rebuild their relationship. Yet Bowen has a secret, and he will have to tell her what’s going on at some point.
A second very good novel, and I am very happy to have discovered their story. Now I look forward to the story of Penelope and the other Nash brothers.
Things I require to think a second chance romance is done well:
-either both celibate, or both have other partners, no inequality there -some degree of being miserable without the other, none of this "content" crap -no falling in love with someone else -someone making a move, typically the one who did the wrong, not just running into each other -a good reason for the separation, especially if a long one
This book did most of these well. It is the story of Bowen and Lily who were high school sweethearts who got into a car accident, and were torn apart by their families meddling. I felt the reasoning there was a little on the weak side, and I don't know that Bowen had to be quite so ugly in how he went about staying away from Lily, but the author did a good job with his inner thoughts and how miserable he was without her. I truly felt the attraction and extreme want he had to be with her again. It helped that while neither was celibate, they both knew nothing measured up, and they felt lonely and sad without the other which is what creates the romance and tension of wanting these two back together. I never understand why authors don't create that in a second chance, why would I want someone who was able to be happy back with this person they claim to love??
All in all, I thought it was well done, and while the separation was on the long side and reasoning not as strong as I like it, compared to other second chances it didn't bother me really at all to read, and I enjoyed seeing them get their HEA.
Can’t get enough of this series! She does such a great job of bringing all the characters turmoil into a relatable reality! After their decade of misery, they find a way to make it happen!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Carrie Aarons has been impressing me for years now. One of her earlier duets, Captive Heart duet, has been my favorite books since she’s starting writing. I’ve read every single one of her books. The Nash brothers are blowing me away. I’m left wondering if I have a new series at the top! Bowen was everything I knew he was going to be and so much more! Forgiven is an incredibly emotional story that tugged at my heart and made it impossible to read without tears!
Bowen irked me so much during Fleeting. However, I knew he was going to be deep and there was so much more than meets the eye. Really, he was an amazing character that was really trying to do what he thought was best. Generally, when a man is doing that, he’s getting in this own way. That was Bowen to a T. He was frustrating and cold. Lily struggled with her “Good Girl” persona most of her life. All she really wanted was to be with Bowen. She seemed so lost since that night in high school changed her life.
Mrs. Aarons is a masterful storyteller. Her words build this picture in your mind. She connects you to her characters effortlessly! If you haven’t read Carrie Aarons previously, I definitely suggest you start now, her writing is fun and uplifting, she gives us that drama we all love but it always seems appropriate for the book. More so, we get this deep and beautiful relationship at the heart. We get two people that are just trying to find their way through life.
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.
When I read Fleeting I wanted to know why Bowen was the way he was with Lily. I just felt so sorry for her because you know how much she still loves him.
So when I got to the end of Keaton's story there was the first chapter for Lily & Bowen's story. I was like yessss I want this book so bad. I want to know what happened between them.
This book totally didnt disappoint!! Bowen & Lily's story was so amazing.
Bowen still loves Lily but because of the accident and certain things that were said after it he has to keep away from her. Even though he loves her he keeps away from her to stop what would happen if they stayed together and the 'embarrassment' it would cause if what happened before the accident was mentioned.
Lily loves Bowen so much and wonder why he is the way he is with her. She was never given a reason why he left and hates it. She just want to know what happened after the accident that made him not want to be with her again. There's closure and she never got it.
My damn heart felt so sorry for them both. Bowen having this big secret and Lily not knowing why he doesnt want to be with her.
I shed a few tear whilst reading. I just couldnt help it lol. Damn heart just couldnt help it.
I loved the epilogue too. It was so bloody perfect I just swooned and smiled all the way through.
I can't wait for the twins books haha. I just know I'm either going to laugh or cry lol.
Lily is a Senator’s daughter and the town librarian who has always done what was expected of her. Ten years ago, she was in love with Nash, her high school sweetheart, until an accident changed everything. Nash ended their relationship with no explanation and although they have avoided each other ever since it doesn’t mean she stopped loving him.
It’s been ten years since Nash’s life was turned upside down when all his dreams were crushed both personally and professionally. He has created a new life for himself, but he has never stopped loving the woman whose heart he broke.
Now that his brother is with her best friend avoiding each other is no longer an option. Will this finally be their chance to work through the secrets between them and have a second chance or is the pain of the past too much to overcome?
I loved these two together. Nash has only ever wanted to protect Lily despite the cost to himself while Lily is so much stronger than even she thought once she decides that she isn’t about to live with the questions of the past any longer. Sweet and sexy I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
4.5 stars After reading Fleeting i wanted to know the story behind Lily and Bowen. And this book is their love story full of everything you want from a great second chance at love and the power of forgiveness and what real love means for two souls that are meant to be together.
After some unfortunate events, Bowen gets away from Lily without a word and leaving her doubting always why he left it like that and why he doesn't want to be with her again. Their story was full of heartbreak and angst and i loved what the author has created and how they finally overpast everything and put their heart out for the other one to take care of it and give it the same love as they deserve. Can't wait for the next books in the series.
“I’ve thought a lot about what a person who loves you looks like. How you can spot the real, genuine kind, and how you know they’ll go to the ends of the earth for you because of that love. Bowen is that kind of person.”
Lily & Bowen’s love story hooked me from the previous book in this series of 4. I wanted - no - I needed to know what had happened between the two of them! She did such a wonderful job at creating that mystery but more importantly, how to drive her readers crazy!
I just wanted to scream at the characters, mainly Bowen! But finally She made the end so worth all the pain. Now this book wasn’t one of my top favorite reads but I did enjoy their story. I honestly probably could of wrote a better review but it’s been a month since I finished & the books not as fresh on my mind. I apologize for that. But is this book worth a try? Most definitely!
Bowen was so harsh and mean to Lily, but it was only to protect her. He carried so much guilt and didn't share how he truly feels with anyone. It broke me when he finally open up. Lily was always doing what her parent wants, but when she finally stands up for herself, I was so proud of her. Brave soul. It was a beautiful second chance love story. The heartache, the undying love, the healing, the forgiveness...makes Bowen and Lily such a beautiful couple. Highly recommend!! Onto book 3!
These two finally got their HEA. Lily and Bowen were high school sweethearts that hadn’t spoken to each other in 10 years after a terrible accident that almost killed her. They were both clearly still in love with each other but unbeknown to Lily Bowen made a promise to stay away. Ten years later and one weak moment all is forgotten and they try. It took nearly half of the Book for these two to suck it up and give it a shot again. It was mostly Bowen trying to stay away but Lily wasn’t having it. When the truth comes out her world is shattered and you see a side of her that wasn’t expected. Makes you really proud of her. And Bowen poor Bowen finally can breathe since the secret is out. Their epilogue was really beautiful.
5/5 Forgiven was such a good story second chance romance about forgiveness and returning to your person. Bowen and Lily were that person for each other. Aarons writes strong, passionate characters, and Forgiven was no exception. Bowen and Lily made me emotional and I was rooting for them the whole time. I always go into an Aarons book knowing I am going to love it. A great second chance romance and book! Looking forward to the rest of the brothers stories!
I'm not crying you're crying... Carrie Aarons what have you done to me?!? If I wasn't a fan before I'm sure as hell now... This was filled with so much feels I don't have words to describe what or how it made me feel.
I was a sobbing mess half the time I was reading. It was heartbreaking to see how they were hurting because they weren't together. And to say I was happy when they finally came together is the biggest understatement of them all.
Absolutely beautiful story and my favorite in the series.

When I read Fleeting, I was intrigued by the little introduction of Lily and Bowen....then the intrigue morphed into need....need to know their story.
Forgiven answered all the questions I had and then some. I was broken right along with Lily and Bowen, yes, he was broken as well. Having both H/H’s going through the same turmoil but on a different scale has me hooked!
Ms. Aaron’s again brought her readers and angst filled love story all about Forgiveness and I loved it!!!!
