In Fixed Star, Sign and Constellation Magic, Christopher Warnock, a noted traditional astrologer and a leading astrological magician, explains the history and practice of the magic of the fixed stars, signs and constellations.
Included are original color images by the contemporary esoteric artists Robert Place and Nigel Jackson of the 15 key talismanic fixed stars from the descriptions in the original medieval and Renaissance sources. Also included are color medieval and Renaissance images of the talismanic constellations and of the 12 Zodiacal signs. These images along with the step by step instructions allow readers to pick astrologically auspicious times and create their own fixed star, sign and constellation talismans.
The book also includes appendices with many medieval and Renaissance original sources on the fixed stars, signs and constellations including sections from Cornelius Agrippa's Three Books of Occult Philosophy, Picatrix and the complete Hermes on the 15 Fixed Stars as well as Albertus Magnus on magical constellations.
Fixed Star, Sign and Constellation Magic is a complete practical manual, explaining in detail and step by step how to create authentic traditional astrological talismans of the 15 fixed stars, 12 Zodiacal signs and 17 constellations from traditional sources.
This book is an EXCELLENT resource for someone who: - would like to make celestial talismans - would like to learn how to find good elections - who already understand the way astrological charts work (even if they can't interpret fluently) - who had some experience with both elemental and planetary magic - who is aware of the sources and origins of magic, but hasn't read/gone there yet.
I'd HIGHLY recommend this to beginners of celestial/stellar/astrological magic - but NOT to beginners in magic in general, or in astrology.
I love that this book is clear, summarizes Agrippa and other manuscripts in an organised way, and includes those very texts in appendices. Talismans are afterall a technical and not a spiritual work. That said, I love Warnock's devotional approach with the invocations.
Offers a convenient useful collection of information about fixed star, sign, amd constellation magic. Warnock draws from many respected sources and his own experience. Highly recommend.
This was a good read, but no good for newbies to the field as it uses a lot of 'assumed' knowledge. Did find some of the correspondences et al interesting.
