Książka do przeczytania i szybkiego zapomnienia. Zbiór historyjek, które mogłyby się ukazywać na pudelku, gdyby w czasach opisywanych (od starożytności po połowę XX wieku) buł pudelek.

Mam problem z tą książką - była może trochę zbyt swobodna, popkulturowa. Autor zgromadził całkiem sporo dziwactw i ograniczeń, ale odnosiłam wrażenie w tym wszystkim lekkiego chaosu. Do tego dosyć mocno ferował wyrokami, więc znałam doskonale jego zdanie na każdy temat. Bardzo często nawiązywał do popkultury, co nie przemówiło do mnie tak mocno jak chciał, odnosiłam wrażenie, że przez to trochę odebrana została naukowość i została tylko ta warstwa popularno z popularno-naukowa. Momentami czytałam już tylko żeby przeczytać, więc to nie jest moja ulubiona książka z tej świetnej serii.

2,5⭐️. Humor autora jest momentami bardzo krindżowy, a sama książka raz ma lepsze, ciekawsze momenty, a raz to jakiś zlepek bzdur, które wydają się być po prostu zapchajdziurami. W ogóle mam wrażenie, że ta książka postała od czapy i jej wydanie nie ma zbyt wiele sensu. Ot ludzie są ludźmi, mają swoje przypały, fetysze i odwalają dziwne rzeczy.

Myślałam, że to będzie zbiór ciekawych „ciekawostek”. Można przeczytać, ale w sumie… po co?

Miało być ciekawe, a było nudno i chaotycznie. Autor próbował być zabawny, ale może nawet był, ale nie dla mnie niestety. I naprawdę nie interesują mnie sympatie polityczne pisarzy, nie trzeba ich wszędzie wciskać.
Co do wiarygodności też mam wątpliwości. Niby seria ZROZUM, a brzmiało jak „Życie na gorąco”.
Szkoda, bo potencjał był.

Ciekawe i mniej lub bardziej znane fakty z życia znanych historycznych postaci, przedstawionew formie popularno-naukowej.

Lecz to właśnie przez ten (czasami nawet za bardzo) ,,popularny" styl pisania książka to raz traciła, to raz zyskiwała. Jeśli chodzi o wartość ciekawostek, to super, ale wstawki i ni to komentarze, ni to uwagi autora mają wydźwięk jak Steve Buscemi ubrany w skaterski outfit mówiący ,,How do you do, fellow kids?"

Ogromne rozczarowanie. Książka napisana jest w tak słaby sposób, że po prostu nie da się jej czytać, nawet jak anegdota jest naprawdę ciekawa.
„St. Grecy nie mieli absolutnie żadnego problemu ze sztucznym penisami”, „Kartezjusz i zezowate kobiety”, „choć młodzieży może być ciężko w to uwierzyć, to znane osobistości obrzucały się gównem na długo zanim Kardashian założyła konto na tt” – i tak całą książkę. Ani to błyskotliwe, ani zabawne.
Na dodatek, Robins pisze strasznie chaotycznie, w wielu momentach okrutnie przynudza, no nie da się w to wkręcić.

An interesting look at historical figures who are not fantastic and brave. I listened to the audio book and it was fun to hear Mikey Robins voice again, and his voice added a bit of levity to some of the not so nice historical facts.

The book follows mostly European and American history and historical figures. I learned lots of new things (like where the phrases powder room and big wig come from), and new things about historical figures (like William the Conquerer having a rather awful funeral). It was fascinating hearing the not often advertised history of well known people (Issac Newton might have been brilliant but well I would not have want to have known him).

The parts I didn’t enjoy were the odd tangents. Like reading out graffiti from Pompeii (unsurprisingly graffiti hasn’t change much), and the last couple of chapters which covered people who swindled others and it caused death. The stories were interesting but for some reason or other didn’t hit the mark for me.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes history, and would like to learn something a little different.

Wowsers.
That is a book of Naughty Oldies and what they got away with!

Scammers are not new.
Most high ranking men had gay senxual tendencies.
And without TVs or Smartphones everyone just had crazy sex all the time basically!
Those were the simple days!

I would have loved to rank 5 stars. But unfortunately these old biddies basically did the same naughty things as each other and then whinged profusely about it!
There were some parts I was having difficulty maintaining focus but I am a history lover so I kept on!

Interesting tales of past leaders and people of note engaging in all sorts of lascivious activities, this book was good but not particularly gripping. Like a long rag mag. I could have done without the author’s personal commentary about the story. If you’re a history buff or want a book you can pick up and put down without having to keep up with plot or characters, this would be a nice light read. 3 stars.

seria zrozum, a ja nie zrozumiałam ani nie zapamiętałam nic, a szkoda bo temat mógłby byc zrealizowany dobrze. duże rozczarowanie po książce o morderczych kobietach, pełno nie śmiesznych daddys jokes (albo autor nie umie ich opowiadać albo tłumaczenie jest wadliwe)

Interesting and funny take on numerous historical characters told with the author's usual humour and attention to (cringe worthy and/or laugh out loud) detail. Mikey's read of the audio book keeps the listener on board as well. Enjoyed it.
