Christian Jacq is a French author and Egyptologist. He has written several novels about ancient Egypt, notably a five book suite about pharaoh Ramses II, a character whom Jacq admires greatly.
Jacq's interest in Egyptology began when he was thirteen, and read History of Ancient Egyptian Civilization by Jacques Pirenne. This inspired him to write his first novel. He first visited Egypt when he was seventeen, went on to study Egyptology and archaeology at the Sorbonne, and is now one of the world's leading Egyptologists.
By the time he was eighteen, he had written eight books. His first commercially successful book was Champollion the Egyptian, published in 1987. As of 2004 he has written over fifty books, including several non-fiction books on the subject of Egyptology.
He and his wife later founded the Ramses Institute, which is dedicated to creating a photographic description of Egypt for the preservation of endangered archaeological sites.

Segundo libro de la trilogía de El Juez de Egipto.
Son tres libros no muy largos, con buena ambientación en el periodo de Ramses II.
Válido para el 1 (La pirámide asesinada), el 2 (La ley del desierto) y el 3 (la justicia del visir)

Encontré este libro en casa de mis padres y me llamó la atención. Hacía bastante tiempo que no leía nada sobre el antiguo Egipto y tenía ganas de hacerlo.
Al principio se me hizo un poco lento y me costó cogerle el tranquillo, pero la verdad es que a medida que pasaba las páginas me atrapaba más la historia. He aprendido muchas cosas sobre la sociedad de la época, la cultura, la política, la justicia...
La manera de escribir de Christian Jacq me ha sorprendido bastante (a pesar de ser una traducción). No sólo tiene un vocabulario muy rico, sino que su forma de describir las situaciones resulta muy amena y además ha sabido distribuir los capítulos de una manera sabia y atrapante para el lector.
No le he dado más puntuación porque, para ser sincera, no me he dado cuenta de que he empezado por el segundo libro de una trilogía hasta que ya iba por las últimas páginas... Supongo que todo tendrá muchísimo más sentido si se lee el primer libro antes xD. Además, si quiero saber cómo finaliza la historia, tendré que leerme el tercer volumen... ¡No quiero quedarme con la intriga!
En general, un buen libro. Si tuviese que resaltar algo negativo diría que por momentos Pazair y Neferet me han resultado bastante babosos y pegajosos. Me parece genial que sea un matrimonio consolidado, que se quieran con locura y que se apoyen siempre el uno al otro, pero... El autor nos lo restriega por la cara a la menor oportunidad hasta el punto de que deja de ser creíble. ¿Existirá un amor tan idílico?
He sentido mucha envidia con la presencia de monos en la vida cotidiana. ¡Yo también quiero!
Y para finalizar con esta reseña, algunas frases que he destacado a lo largo de la historia:
" - Sin embargo, no estoy seguro de tener razón. Dudo de mis propias afirmaciones. - "
" - Si reconoces ser un asno, el camino de la sabiduría sigue accesible. - "
" - ¿Qué será del país si los grandes escapan de la justicia? Se convertirá en tierra de compromisos, de privilegio y de mentira. -" (Qué familiar suena esto...)
" - ¿No es la paciencia una cualidad fundamental? - "

Continuano le avventure di Pazair e Neferet con le rispettive carriere e la loro vita matrimoniale. Anche questo capitolo sfrutta gli stessi punti di forza del primo capitolo e anche ne Il testamento degli dèi avremo a che fare con un antagonista tutto da scoprire.
Per Pazair non sembra che la sua lotta per la giustizia debba finire presto e anche in questo caso arrivati all’ultimo colpo di scena vorremmo finire al più presto anche il terzo capitolo e seguire ancora le avventure della coppia.
Anche in questo caso i dialoghi mi son sembrati forzati e fin troppo ossequiosi ma reduce dal primo capitolo posso dire che mi ci sono perfino quasi abituata. Continuo ad amare la scrittura di Jacq anche se arrivata a questo capitolo non mi sento di dire che mi stia entusiasmando più di tanto.
Adoro la descrizione di Jacq della vita in città, degli odori e dei rumori che si posso udire dall’alba al tramonto, le descrizioni accurate dei luoghi… ma oltre a questo e alla curiosità di sapere come sarà l’epilogo dell’ormai quasi visir Pazair e consorte, non posso dire che sia all’altezza dei precedenti romanzi letti.
Per Pazair non sembra che la sua lotta per la giustizia debba finire presto e anche in questo caso arrivati all’ultimo colpo di scena vorremmo finire al più presto anche il terzo capitolo e seguire ancora le avventure della coppia.

Prosecuzione naturale de L'inferno del giudice , il precedente primo volume della trilogia del giudice Pazair. Purtroppo, questa volta devo segnalare una trama molto monotona e quasi soporifera: sarà anche un thriller ma, pur tra complotti, incidenti ed assassinii a ripetizione, la storia è davvero molto ma molto piatta. Degni di nota solo la magnifica descrizione del paesaggio egiziano (in fin dei conti, siamo all'apice della gloria del faraone Ramses II) e degli usi e costumi dell'epoca.

This book really just ticked along nicely, continuing the ongoing tales of Pazair and Neferet and their respective careers. At least until the last eighty pages or so where it just exploded into a sudden need to get to the denouement and reveal of the main conspirator (which wasn't a huge surprise to me).
The book suffers and benefits from the same qualities as the first in the trilogy; the occasionally stilted dialogue, but excellent details that have been wonderfully researched and placed into the story.
One review on this book has referenced the 'love scenes'. I didn't find these explicit or jarring in any way. Indeed I felt they were generally moved on from in a couple of cursory sentences. Though one did involve the phrase 'love apples'!
I'm now looking forward to the completion of this series in the next book as it is set up to be a frantic head-to-head battle between Pazair and the antagonist. At least I hope so anyway...

Príliš ľahko a rýchlo sa Paser vrátil z galejí.
Príliš ľahko a rýchlo oslobodil Kema, keď ho obvinili z vraždy Branira.
Scéna... noc... Kadaš, Denes, Nenofar a Šeši sa stretli, aby prebrali svoje sprisahanecké plány... Ale nevedeli, že každé ich slovo počuje nezvaný hosť... Pomyslela som si: „Úúúúú, takže svedok... paráda!“... až na to, že to bola Kemova opica... pokiaľ sa záhadne nenaučí posunkovú reč, tak pochybujem, že jej svedectvu niekto porozumie.
No ale vráťme sa našej hlavnej postave. Paser sa aj napriek všetkým brvnám, ktorú mu jeho neprajníci hádžu pod nohy, snaží ísť po ceste Maat a odhaliť sprisahancov. Po pritom každú chvíľu preťahuje svoju ženu (ako... super, že sa máte radi, ale toto nás v deji absolútne nikam neposúva!). Zrazu z ničoho nič vydá faraón dekrét, ktorým všetci zločinci v Egypte dostanú milosť. To Pasera, samozrejme, nasere. Kadaš už len čakal v base na vykonanie rozsudku smrti a zrazu BUM je voľný (ale nevydržalo mu to dlho, keďže BUM na cca druhý deň zomrel „za záhadných okolností“). Postupne však padajú všetci. Chattuša, Nenofar, Denes a Seši. Človek si myslí, že je všetko za nami a Egypt zachránený. Ale kdeže! To by nás predsa nečakal tretí diel.
Ramzes našťastie sledoval Paserovu kariéru od samého začiatku a keďže on a starý vezír Bagej boli jediní, ktorí sa vzopreli kráľovskému dekrétu, vymenoval Ramzes Pasera na Bagejovo miesto. Jupí!
Medzitým Neferet rieši svoju lekársku prax a svoju medicínsku úžasnosť. Je taká skvelá, že sa s ňou stretne samotná kráľovská matka Tuja! A navyše sa z nej stane hlavná lekárka. Všetko je skvelé, len to dieťatko stále akosi nie je na ceste, aj keď sa Neferet a Paser dohodli, že bábo budú mať až keď nájdu Branirovho vraha (hoci sa čudujem, ako je možné, že neotehotnela, pretože každú chvíľu jej „samé od seba padne ramienko na šatách“).
A nesmieme zabudnúť sa Sutiho. Suti sa ožení s pani Tapeni, ktorá mi už len svojim dýchaním liezla na nervy. Jeho milenka Pantera je nasratá (veď kto by nebol), ale Suti je verný svojmu kamošovi Paserovi a je tak plný nenávisti voči Ašerovi, že sa nechá najať ako baník, aby dokázal Ašerovu vinu, čo sa mu aj podarí plus ako bonus získa kopu zlata, ktorú ale musí odovzdať do Koptu, ale on nie, on si ho musí nechať. Och joj, z toho ešte len budú problémy. Po dlhom čase sa vracia naspäť do Menoferu, kde prebehne tento dojemný (parafrázovaný) rozhovor s Tapeni:
Tapeni: Kde si bol tak dlho? Chýbal si mi.
Suti: Sorry, žena, ale tým, že som bol dlho preč, som naplnil podmienku rozvodu. Adieu a nechaj ma chlastať.
Tapeni: Ale ja neverím, že sme rozvedení!
Suti: Hergot, žena! Nestojím o teba. Kšá! Hybaj ta do riti.
Tapeni: Ale ja ťa ľúbim! A preto ťa udám za cudzoložstvo! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Suti: Oh, shit!
A tak sa Suti dostal do väzenia do Charže alebo tak dáko.
Druhý diel, Zákon púšte, je rovnako zaujímavý ako ten prvý. Pomaly sa nám odmotáva klbko lží, klamstiev a jedného plot twistu (o ktorom hovoriť nebudem, len poviem, že som to nečakala, keďže Jacqove postavy sú buď dobré, alebo zlé, ale táto bola dobrá a na konci sa ukázala ako zlá, akože VAV!). Niektoré rozhovory sú trochu kostrbaté a v reálnom svete by sa tak rozhodne neodohrali, ale myslím si, že na to sme si u Jacqa už dávno mohli zvyknúť. Stále ale musím obdivovať tie detaily v popisovaní podávaní jedál, miešaní liekov na rôzne choroby... Je to radosť čítať. A hlavne fakt, že až do konca NEVIETE, kto je na čele celého sprisahania je len vítané plus. Stále nás však čaká nájdenie testamentu bohov a Paser má na to len deväť mesiacov. Tik tak...

Εξαίρει τον αιγυπτιακό πολιτισμό, δίνοντας έμφαση στην πλούσια ιστορία, τη θρησκεία, και τους περίπλοκους νόμους του.
Ο ρυθμός είναι συχνά γρήγορος, με συνεχή δράση και ανατροπές, ενώ ο συγγραφέας ενσωματώνει ιστορικά στοιχεία και γνώσεις για τον αιγυπτιακό πολιτισμό με τρόπο που δεν κουράζει, αλλά αντίθετα εμπλουτίζει την αφήγηση. Η γλώσσα είναι προσβάσιμη, επιτρέποντας σε ένα ευρύ κοινό να απολαύσει το βιβλίο.
Οι χαρακτήρες του βιβλίου είναι καλά δομημένοι και πολυδιάστατοι , Όλοι τους κινούνται σε ένα δίκτυο σχέσεων και συμφερόντων, προσδίδοντας βάθος στην πλοκή.

Tal vez lo mejor de la novela sean las descripciones de usos, costumbres y ambientes de Egipto que hace el autor. La trama es demasiado simple, los personajes absolutamente maniqueos (o seres de luz o malos malosísimos), las descripciones y los procesos interiores de los personajes son, más que simples, esquemáticas y el autor siempre cuenta en vez de mostrar (al juez prota le dicen que está haciendo enemigos poderosos unas cuantas veces, pero ni una sola de ellas nos lo creemos, lo tememos o lo sentimos porque nuestra única información es eso mismo que le están diciendo).
Se deja leer, desde luego. Me entretuvo, aunque luego al acabarla deje poco poso.

The second volume of a trilogy, this volume suffers a bit from the "middle volume" syndrome -- it is limited in how many plotlines it can resolve and needs to introduce others.
In this case, the one major problem is that the first half of the novel has a number of scenes that seem less to advance the overall story as to give visual snippets of life in ancient Egypt. (The author is an Egyptologist.) While that is often interesting in its own right, the number of plots/counterplots that are almost immediately resolved creates a mid-novel drag that rights itself in the last third of the book, which is very exciting and finally reveals the chief villain -- whom I did not see coming, but in retrospect SHOULD have.
On to the final volume.

J'ai du mal à me faire une opinion sur cette trilogie. Quand je lis, j'ai du mal à le lâcher et ce complot m'intrigue, j'ai hâte d'en savoir plus et de découvrir les coupables. J'apprécie le fond d'Égypte antique et den découvrir les us et coutumes. Et pourtant, certains aspects m'horripilent et me donnent envie de vite finir sans forcément apprécier le cheminement. L'histoire d'amour parfaite de Pazair et Néféret est lassante, les scènes d'amour sont d'une poésie forcée et dégoulinante, l'ascension aussi rapide de Pazair et de tous ses amis difficile à croire. J'enchaîne sur le troisième avec entrain mais je serai contente d'avoir fini et de passer à autre chose je pense

Historical murder mysteries are my favourite leisure reads, and this one - the second book of a trilogy - is a wonderful example. It has an admirable hero, an intricate plot, and scope for speculation. The author is an Archaeologist and an Egyptologist, so is able to immerse the reader in a 'world' that feels authentic; a world in which magic and ritual play a central role, and murder impacts upon the harmony of society as a whole.

Me atrapo en un primer momento, y se me hizo fácil leerla. La historia en si, no es nada compleja, y el desarrollo muchas veces es simplista. No me gusto como muchas cosas que parecían prometedoras, terminaron de la forma mas simplista posible. Aunque debo decir que me dan ganas de leer las tercera parte.

Esta trilogía podría ser perfectamente el Juego de Tronos de la época de mis padres. La historia engancha mucho y esta lleno de detalles que te van haciendo comprender la vida en el Antiguo Egipto. Las últimas 50 páginas te las tienes que leer de golpe porque no paran de pasar cosas, y el final... tremendo plot twist. A por el 3er y último libro!!! 💪🏻💪🏻

El argumento es bueno, pero la narración un poco atropellada. Las escenas se sobreponen unas tras otras y aunque la lectura es sencilla le falta algo de pausa.

Good entertainment. I read this tale of deceit, corruption, murders set in Ramses II times when it came out in the mid 1990s in French and adored it.
Jacq paints a good and enjoyable tale of loyalty, friendship, love, devotion where a few men and a few women stand against a terrible plot to overthrow Ramses II. Some of the action is a little over the top, the villains of the plots are easily detectable (there is no real surprise as who are the bad guys, Jacq is not subtle) but the good guys are why you keep reading. Pazair, Souti, Neferet are the heart and soul of the story.
Jacq extensive knowledge of how people lived and worked and how the kingdom was run adds a background that you learn easily.
It's a good, light, historical mystery murder set in ancient Egypt.

Por fin Pazair es liberado de su cautiverio gracias a la ayuda de sus amigos Suti y Kem y su esposa Neferet. Reading books I loved when I was younger is always an interesting journey. Sometimes I get disappointed, sometimes I'm even more excited and happy (looking at you Good Omens), and sometimes I just don't feel such a strong connection with the book anymore. And I'm not even really sad about it. After all, we grow and outgrow things all the time!
This trilogy falls under this third category. I'll re-read the third one to have closure, but I don't think I'll reread them again (but then again, who knows?)

Law desert I’m of the idea that a good book has to help you think and change your perspective in a positive way. Books like this only display real historic information mixed with explicit sexual content. I don’t recommend it at all.
