Ai Yazawa (Japanese: 矢沢あい, Yazawa Ai) is a Japanese manga author and illustrator. Her pen name comes from singer Eikichi Yazawa, of whom she is a fan.
Yazawa started her comics career in 1985. She specialises in shojo manga (girls' comics). Most of her works have been serialised in the magazines 'Ribon', 'Cookie' and 'Zipper'.
Yazawa's stories focus on young, often rebellious women and their relationships. The characters are always very stylish, and Yazawa herself is known for her sense of fashion. (She even attended a fashion school for some time after high school.)
Among her most famous manga are Tenshi Nanka Ja Nai (I'm No Angel, 1992–1995), Neighborhood Story (1995-1998), Paradise Kiss (1999-2004), and Nana (2000-2009), the latter awarded a Shogakukan Manga Award in 2003. Some of these works have been adapted into anime and live action movies.

man i just really dislike nana o. she is genuinely unwell. the fandom has collectively decided to romanticize this into something admirable, which does her no favors and everyone around her even fewer. she dishes out this sharp and sarcastic energy toward everyone around her until someone gives it back, and suddenly she can’t handle it. kyosuke and yasu have spent considerable energy mythologizing her as some emblem of independence, but the reality is that she functionally cannot exist without latching onto yasu, hachi, or ren in ways that go well past leaning on people for support and into something considerably more consuming. what makes it frustrating is that nobody in her life actually holds her accountable for any of it. they absorb her, accommodate her, and take on her emotional weight as though it were their own responsibility to carry. it’s the same dynamic reira gets trapped in, two characters perpetually cast as people who need to be rescued rather than nudged toward rescuing themselves, and the people around them are too invested in the role of savior to ever demand better. everyone else in this story is held to some standard of accountability, either by themselves or by someone who cares enough to be honest, but those two somehow exist in a separate category entirely. the band treats nana’s fragility as something too sensitive to confront, so it never gets confronted, and because it never gets confronted she never had to actually learn how to process her emotions, so she doesn’t, and it just manifests as impulsiveness and extremity instead.

I love that Hachi and Takumi are still friends in the future even though they're getting divorced...

Ren: "Don't give up, no matter what happens. Life is about getting knocked down over and over but still getting up each time. If you keep standing up, you win."
Hachi: "That's exactly what Nana told me. <3 Hee Hee."

"Hey, Nana, have you ever heard a story like this? About kidnapped victims learning to love their kidnapper... The morning that glass broke, I asked Takumi to save me, because I thought I'd fallen into a trap like that. But I really loved him. Actually, I still love him... Even now." - Hachi

The more I read the more I hate Takumi and Reira, they are clearly the dysfunctional ones.
However I love the evolution of Hachi and Shin 🥹

Hachi and Nana spend a lot of time together in this volume, but things are clearly different. It's an interesting point for looking back at the start of the series, when they first became friends and shared the apartment. Part of how she shows her love for her friends is by pushing them like this, and Hachi and Ren's relationship that we see in phone calls is a bit funny.
Something especially striking about this volume is
The difference in the cakes Hachi made for Nana/Ren vs. Takumi was pretty funny. As usual, Takumi doesn't know why Hachi is upset at him (no surprise there).

Spoilers below! Beware!
Yes Nana is becomeing someone she can be proud of :) I really hate Takumi. He flat out says he is a womanizer. But Hachi forgives him cause he says he really loves her. Some things are starting to make more sense now. So the baby Hachi is pregnant with during the series has to be Ren... right? Cause he's the older brother. I hate Reira too. I don't care that she loves Takumi. Let her take him from Hachi, he's a miserable SOB. No, she loooovvvveeesss Shin and then throws herself at Takumi.... The hell????

Things are getting really confusing! I no longer who is who's child, or what's really going on and when. I just want to read the remaining two volumes and get it done with.

4/4⭐️

this is so frustrating! all characters do is pass blame and responsibility around...like takumi telling shin to take care of reira, yasu telling ren to take care of nana, etc. and then, even if said characters do meet or talk, nothing is resolved and the problems just stay there. most times, they don't even talk about it. i get it, and i'm sure in some of these cases i'd act the same way myself...but it's been like this for volumes and it's getting more and more frustrating. plus i feel desperate! i got so attached to most of the characters that i wish i could help them myself. seeing this is just sad. and please, can't someone just look after ren a bit? i'm glad hachi called him, but i think he definitely needs someone who's closer to him. i don't know. i have a really bad feeling about this.

and, of course, just when i think takumi can't possibly be any worse, there it is. what a fucking asshole.
