This delightful children's story follows Haffertee, a toy hamster lovingly sewn together by Mrs. Diamond to replace her child Yo’s real hamster, who had passed away. Along the way, we meet other charming toy characters like Howl Owl and Mr. Jumpastring, a lively marionette who hosts parties in the cupboard. Through these playful interactions, Haffertee embarks on a journey of self-discovery, questioning life and his purpose in the world. It’s a heartwarming tale that explores deep themes with a light, whimsical touch.

Read aloud to my youngest. She loved it. There were some oddities to the story (the girls name?) that didn't make sense for the setting of 20th century America. I felt like I was missing some pieces of backstory that would explain it. Still cute and sweet story. Will have to look for the others (now out of print)

I loved these books as a little girl, and I loved reading it aloud to my kids now. The 8 year old really loved it, and the idea that a stuffed hamster could talk to people. If you can get ahold of any or the books in this series, do it! They're so cute, and worth it. Just sad that they are out of print.

As a little one, I loved these books. I was never certain whether it was about pets or toys, but it made no difference. I loved them and retain fond memories and old, worn books on my shelves.

One child really enjoyed this, the other found it too boring. It's a lovely, gentle story with some good underlying morals.
