It's time to put on your rain gear for a rainy-day romp!
With spring comes April showers. It's time to put on a raincoat, grab an umbrella, and head outdoors. The worms like rain, and so do the fish and frogs. But what about the cat and dog? In this lyrical picture book, one spunky little girl discovers just who likes rain--and who doesn't--as she explores the rainy-day habits of the world around her.
Here is the second offering in Wong Herbert Yee's charming seasonal quartet. The simple text and interactive question-and-answer format make this book perfect for reading aloud with preschoolers any time of the year.
Who Likes Rain? is a 2008 Bank Street - Best Children's Book of the Year.
Adorable. This would make a lovely lap read read with a small child who could guess along with the little rhymes. There's gentle humor, too (such as who doesn't like the rain? Daddy's old truck!) and the ending is just darling, perfectly expressing the love young children have for puddles!
Who wants rain? Who needs April showers? I know who... [turn the page] The trees and flowers!
When it rains, Who's the first to scat? I know! Do you? Mew, mew... [turn the page[ It's the cat!

This is the perfect read on a rainy September morning and Mr. Yee has perfectly captured the joy of exploring the sensory experience of rain. With a rhyming text children also learn other creatures who like rain.. This is pure childhood exploration of the natural world at its very best. The young girl having the rain adventures was me many years ago right down to watching rain run from the spouting and finally playing in a puddle. Isn’t that what puddles are for to splash in? Loved this title.
The onomatopoeia and rhythm is so much fun in this story! It's very cute and I would recommend reading it at a story time or as a bedtime story or even as a story for a rainy day with young children!
Who like rain is a great book to read to children during a rainy day. A little girl goes out in the rain and sees creatures that dislike the rain. Animals like fishes and frogs love the rain, but dogs and cats do not. I certainly do not like rain because it makes everything wet and if you want to go out for a walk you get all wet.
A young girl goes through her day watching animals and others enjoy the rain and asking the reader to guess who the animal is. Very sing songy and not many words on each page but a little long. Preschool plus.
Lovely rhyming a book about a child playing in the rain! The illustrations are wonderful all soft and colorful. This book makes a wonderful story time read; good for spring, rain, and rhyming, too. Kids love filling in the words that rhyme!
I like this book because it's about Who Likes Rain. And it also talks about animals that like rain and things that don't like rain and things that really really really really really like rain. Like humans!
A cute book about a little girl who likes to play in the rain. The book is small, so it might be harder to use in a storytime. A little on the longer side, so better for older kids.
This is a sweet little book and I asked the children to guess which animals were in the story. It's actually sized very small and was a little challenging as a read aloud.
My three-year-olds asked for this book multiple times after the first reading. A few days later while walking in the rain, one of the twins said, "Mommy, who likes rain?" So we got to talk about it!

Who Likes Rain? by Wong Herbert Yee is an interactive book that asks the reader who likes the rain? It takes the reader through different characters.
Each page is a poetic verse which is followed by the same question. I rated this book three stars because for an interactive book, it is not that amusing. Its repetitiveness was not very enjoyable as compared to other books that may do that.

A little girl is disappointed at first because the rain is interrupting her outside play time. She contemplates all of the things that like rain such as flowers and frogs. Then she puts on rain gear and explores the rainy outdoors until the rain stops. Finally the real fun begins when she jumps in the puddles left behind.
Although the colors of the illustrations are a bit muted, they are colorful and enjoyable to look at. The author asks a question and the answer is a surprise on the next page in an illustrated "window." For instance, you read: "Who likes rain? Quack quack." And on the next page is the picture of a duck with the words, "It's a duck!"
This book is a wonderful story of exploration and the weather for the littlest ones. There are plenty of sounds for a fun read-a-loud. It put many smiles on my face.
The layout of this storybook is nice because each page has a rhyming description of some creature that likes the rain, but you don't find out what the animal is until the next page. So, basically, each time you turn the page there's a little surprise. I wish the illustrations were a bit more exciting. They weren't quite bright enough to capture my baby's attention. However, the house in the book looks a lot like our house, which was a fun little touch.
This is a non-story about a little girl exploring what living things like and don't like the rain. I really enjoyed the illustrations of this book. What stands out is Yee's use of white space. You can really appreciate what he chose to draw and what he didn't and how he uses little window-like pictures to help a reader guess what's on the next page.
I used it with my cat-themed storytime even though a cat is only on one page. I don't think the storytime audience noticed!
There were a lot of things I liked about this book. I really appreciated the pictures, they looked like they were hand drawn instead of being drawn up on a computer. The author was creative in making the lines rhyme, and emphasized onamatopoia words for children to imagine the sounds and pictures in their heads. Most of the time, rainy days are dreary and sad but the author wants children to realize how much fun and happiness they can create.
This is a cute book about rain that talks about the different animals that are out during the rain as well as what you can do in the rain, like catch raindrops in your hat.
A simple story with very nice illustrations that display things to do on a rainy day and all of the sounds of the animals that enjoy the rain too.

We loved the guessing game in this story. The words caused the kids to repeat after me with plings, pitty pat splats and plops. It was fun for them to make the sounds of rain.
I wish this was available in a larger format for use during storytime. It's beautifully written and the illustrations are gorgeous. I would still be tempted to use it for storytime so long as the group wasn't too large.
A fun guessing game, illustrated perfectly that has all the sounds and experiences of playing in the rain, with a very satisfying conclusion that every parent will want to enjoy with their child (at least I hope they will....never become too grown up to play outside after a rainstorm). Loved this!
This was a pretty firmly middle-of-the-road book. It's not overwhelmingly cute, but there's nothing bad about it. If there weren't other books available, it would make an ok read for a rain-themed storytime.
