It’s Christmas Eve, and Fireman Small has had a busy day—he helped Mayor Mole find a Christmas tree, and he decorated it from tip to toe. When he arrives back at Firehouse Nine, all Fireman Small wants is a good night’s sleep before Christmas morning. But a crash and a muffled ho-ho-ho suddenly wake him up. Rushing downstairs, Fireman Small discovers that he has a big problem on his hands. Join Fireman Small as he takes to the snow-covered streets to save Christmas the best way he knows how. With him at the reins, it may not be reindeer hooves that you hear on your rooftop.
To save Christmas, would you take over for Santa Claus? Many people couldn't handle ole Saint Nick's job, but not Firefighter Smalls, he does what he has to do to make sure that his small town is not forgotten on that one special morning.
Very cute, I highly recommend this story to be read to small children.
A Small Christmas by Yee_ Wong Herbert Children's story that I enjoyed listening to about how the Fireman Small prepares for the Christmas holiday. Book is rhyming. He finds Santa asleep in his bunk but he has an idea. Loved hearing what each of his friends got for gifts. I received this review book from The Kensington Books and this is my honest opinion.
Fireman Small was receiving no fire calls so was free to help prepare the city for Christmas. After work he went to bed, but was awakened by a noise. Santa Claus! Herbert, wanting to help him, created a problem he had to make right. Nicely illustrated rhyming story.
The rhyming scheme is perfect, the situation funny. I even laughed out loud. A couple of things bothered me though.
1. Why is Fireman Small the only human in a world full of anthropomorphic animals?
2. And honestly...didn't he get a little bit gypped at the end of the story? I was a tad disappointed.
OK, it's the thought that counts. Funny....not one to hunt down special to read to the kids at Christmas, but a good one to toss in the stack if you're collecting Christmas books from the library for a night full of fun reading.
I guess there are quite a few "Small" followers out there and I'm sure they would be thrilled with this holiday adventure. I have never read the Small books so this was my introduction and while it was cute enough I'm not sure I found any particular connection with it. Still, kids will probably enjoy how Small gets to help out a sleepy Santa one Christmas Eve!
My son loved firetrucks and firefighters when he was young, so when we discovered Fireman Small, it was a match made in heaven. Every Christmas, I did a book advent calendar (using 24 Christmas themed books) and of course we were delighted to find this one to add the selection. I just read it again tonight to my 13 yo daughter, for ole times' sake.
Fireman Small fills in for Santa Claus in this sweet holiday story. An especially good choice if your toddler is, like mine, obsessed with firemen and firetrucks. We'll be looking for other books in the Fireman Small series.
Fireman Small's job is never done. He's spent all Christmas Eve helping around his neighborhood. Santa takes an unexpected fall and ends up falling asleep. Who will save Christmas? It's Fireman Small to rescue again!
