Rate this book
In the world of tech consulting, not all employers and staffing companies play by the rules. Charlie O’Neal discovers this truth when a client's project manager accidentally reveals the terms and conditions of his contract. Enraged and furious Charlie seeks revenge. This time Charlie decides not to back down from the bullies and the injustices against the young and inexperienced consultants he mentors. He meets with one of the “three musketeers”, as the employees refer to the executives running the staffing company, and is introduced to Sir Archibald, the cat of the executive. Charlie scared stiff, realizes that he may just be working for the person responsible for the most tragic event in his past. When he immigrated to the USA, he tried to leave behind all memories about his past and the mysterious Sir Archibald, but he seems to have been close to him all the time.

I have been an avid reader all my life and "When Shift Doesn't Happen" is a great addition to my library. This book grabs you from the first few pages and pulls you into the life of Charlie, an IT consultant originally from South Africa. If you like intrigue and solving a mystery, this book is for you. Just the right amount of detail to help the reader understand the world of banking, how the pennies add up, and the importance of shift.

O, I loved Charlie. Hanna's absence in the story made me sad. And this is what Christo Nel was able to accomplish, that as a reader I became so involved in the story that I did not want to say goodbye. Congratulations on a very good first novel, Christo.
