When Emilie Wyld, a disenchanted art student, takes a caretaker position at Kingsgrove Estate in the sleepy southern town of Willow Vale, she thinks she's just found the best way to start a new life on her own. All she has to do is care for the house and keep the gentle, mute proprietor, Miss Adalynn King, company. But as she explores Willow Vale and meets the locals, she discovers another side to the charming, friendly place-whisperings of misused Voodoo. It isn't long before Emilie realizes that the rambling, isolated estate holds secrets and Miss King won't admit what she knows. As the grand estate's strange creaks and cries become more than the strain of old timber and stone, Emilie comes face-to-face with the haunting past that Miss King can't endure alone. Soon the electrifying presence of a long-ago, forgotten man begins to haunt Emilie-there's something about him she just can't shake, and she finds herself longing to help him. But the darkness that surrounds the small southern town isn't going to make it easy for her. Suddenly, Emilie realizes she's the only one who can fight to uncover the traumas and wrong-doings from the King family's past, and make a great sacrifice for the sake of love....
I want worlds written on the backs of dragons, in the moors of the Scottish highlands, and in the shadowed halls of a haunted house. I want to get lost in a pen-and-paper universe, have a great adventure, and never return. -Christena Rose
Twisted Veil was a thrill to write. If deep south Voodoo, witchcraft and ghosts are your thing, then this paranormal romance may be the chilling read that you've been dreaming of (it was for me). I wrote the type of story that I love to read. My heart was poured into every line, and I can't wait for more to experience the haunted Kingsgrove estate with my beloved Emilie Wyld.
This is a first novel? Twisted Veil is fabulous storytelling, commitment to characters and setting, with no unnecessary meandering. I'm looking forward to more from this author.
What an amazing read! I was hooked from the first chapter. They way the author describes the scenes and weaves the story really keeps you reading to find out what happens next. Highly recommend this ghost story to any avid reader.
This book is excellent! I couldn’t put it down! It had romance, intrigue, mystery and excitement! The author described everything with such detail it made it so easy to imagine every scene and character! I can’t wait to read her next one!
I just finished this book and I didn't want it to end! I have never read a ghost story before and I absolutely loved it. The characters are really rich and I got totally lost in their world. Highly recommend!
Not my normal genre of books but I stumbled across the author at comic Con and decided to give it a try. I could not put this book down! I am very excited to see more from her!
I picked this up from a local comicon. The artwork on the cover and other pieces at the table caught my attention, but once I read the description I knew I had to read it. The story gets moving almost immediately. There isn't a lot of time spent on character description or back stories, but I felt as if I knew each one personally. It was easy to get comfortable in the setting which is important for readers looking to get lost in a book. The author's voice is just as haunting as the story itself. I am very excited to read more from her.
Twisted Veil is absolutely thrilling. The ability that Christena Rose has to transport the reader to the deep South to experience the characters turmoils was incredible. I cannot wait for more books from this talented writer! Get ready for an emotional ride.
Ok this is a cute haunted romance/mystery. Emilie wants a fresh start on life and takes up a job as a grounds keeper at an estate owned by a recluse Adalynn King. Spooky shit happens and Emilie feels compelled to help the dashing mystery ghost that haunts the property. I wasn’t expecting the romance aspect to it but the mystery of the house and characters was intriguing. Very bittersweet ending.
Great debut novel. The writing pulls you into the world, with strong characters and compelling narrative. The novel remains mostly in “creepy” territory, rather than venturing into horror. I could have done without the (minor) romance angle, but that is not something that ever speaks to me (just ask my wife).
Overall I was really impressed. I look forward to whatever she writes next, she’s a natural talent.
