This is an important reference for me while I work on a social studies unit on the Harlem Renaissance. It is a period of history that is underreported. I was almost 26 and working as a substitute teacher the first time I remember learning about the 1919 race riots.

A super short book, large print, and written for young people. It is a quick synopsis of the migration of Black people from the South to the North from the early 1900's to the 197o's. It narrates why they left and how many returned to the South to be with their families after discriminatory laws were revoked.
