I'm Tom Huddleston, author of fiction and non-fiction for adults and children. I've written books on famous creatives including DAVID LYNCH: HIS WORK, HIS WORLD; THE WORLDS OF GEORGE RR MARTIN and THE WORLDS OF DUNE, all about the inspirations behind the greatest SF novel of all time.
For younger readers, I've written original adventure stories like the FLOODWORLD trilogy (FLOODWORLD, DUSTROAD and STORMTIDE), along with several episodes in the WARHAMMER ADVENTURES and STAR WARS: ADVENTURES IN WILD SPACE series.
I also write about film and TV for publications including Time Out, the BFI and The Guardian, and I sing in a folk-rock band called The No Sorrows.
I was born in Kendal and raised in North Yorkshire, though I now live in London. I realise that I almost have the same name as Loki, but rest assured I'm not him: I'm slightly rounder and a lot less famous. However, I have managed to make him admit that it's his family who spell their name wrong, not mine.
This is the finale for a series meant for younger children. In this one, Milo and Lina know where their parents are and they go to this planet to rescue them. While there they receive some unexpected help.
My reading enjoyment for this series was pretty much consistent throughout. Right away one can tell these books are geared towards the young audience. They will enjoy these books as they can identify with the characters. As for the adults these are not serious books and need to be taken lightly. The standout in this book is the newly acquired friends that fight along the children. They are definitely interesting. We also get the long awaited reunion for the family including the droid. There is an iconic character in this book but he is mostly here to tie in this book with the overall universe. This story adds nothing to his overall arc.
This series isn't groundbreaking and it is enjoyable. Younger children will get a kick out of it. The message of this book and the whole series is nice as family is important and members will do anything for other members of the family.
The final book in the Wild Space series, this Middle Grade Star Wars series was a complete miss for me. Milo and Lina decide to rescue their parents from the clutches of Governor Tarkin. The issue is, their parents are just as stupid as their children and make dumb decisions that complicated things unnecessarily. The only part I truly appreciated was the very end when the children knew it was right to join the Rebels instead of just not picking a side in the war. The simplicity of this series is probably fine for younger SW readers but as an adult I hated pushing through these.
Well, I'm sad. Because the series is over and I have become ridiculously attached to the Graf family (ahem, this generation anyhow - don't get me started on their High Republic ancestors lol). I enjoyed this climax and was impressed at how natural the Rogue One references felt - they could have easily felt contrived instead, given that this book is aimed at younger readers, but Huddleston handled them well.
I think I might have to track down physical copies of these adventures...
This is the conclusion of an enjoyable middle-grade series. I liked the mushrooms in here, and the family plot is strong. Defnitely worth checking out if you have a kid or cousin on the younger end who enjoys all things Star Wars.
Overall solid middle grade series. Lots of tension and excitement, though a bit easily resolved, but that makes sense considering the target audience and the fact that the book needs to be shorter.
It has some tie-in references to other bits of Star Wars (Rebels, Rogue One) but nothing that kids absolutely need to know before reading this series; they would be fine on their own, though even better if the kids already know who the Bridgers are.
A fun series taken together as a whole. A nice job demonstrating gradual character development and change, whole entrenching the story within the Star Wars universe. I hope these characters pop up again somewhere.
An interesting concept with the mushroom people and an overall satisfying end to this series. I think as a young reader book this series works really well. It has good lessons about helping people and looking out from humanity as a whole as well as how to be brave and face your fears. I like seeing how the sibling relationship has grown over these books as well as Crater and Mork becoming buds. All in all a decent story.
Loved the Mushroom people in this book! Sentient mushrooms in Star Wars - give it to me!
Also, when the Mushroom Man wouldn't kill the Droid because he recognized the droid's sapience and right to existence - that was extremely my jazz! This book is a great end to the series and I can't wait to read more about the Grafs in the IDW line of comics!

This was a thrilling finish to the series. Lina and Milo are shot down on the planet their parents have been imprisoned on. Their journey and new friends contrast with Governor Tarkin and his evil plans holding their parents. I love the natives and how things come together. This wonderful stories show how much Lina and Milo have grown and changed, along with their droid contrasted with the views of their parents. It would have been wonderful to have seen this series continue. January LaVoy is fantastic as always on narration, she has such a beautiful voice.
The finale manages to rise above the rest of the series. There are some nice ties to Rogue One with Tarkin, a KX-series security droid, and a few mentions of Krennic. I enjoyed that. The parents are finally rescued and the kids realize how much they've grown as capable, independent individuals.
I loved the fungi people, very fun. Hffrr is a great character. And I also loved the flying spore. Such a perfect combination of the children's skills: Milo's biology and Lina's piloting.
I started reading this series to my sons back with the world book day edition and they were both instantly hooked. Very eager to hear the next book. I have recommended to everyone with children to give these ago, as now both my girls have read them and really enjoyed them. My eldest son is now hoping to hear news of a next book in the series!
These have been great little books, although written for a younger audience I found all of them enjoyable reads. Not sure if this is planned as the last in the series but if it was then it was a fitting climax.
This was definitely my least favorite of the series. I thought some parts were interesting and kind of cool, but overall it was a little dull. I see how it ties into Rebels though, which is nice.
This was the perfect ending to this series. I loved the world-building for the fungi people and the mind-bending lore or their planet. A lot of great narrative choices were made.
Really lovely story s as me reunion for the Graf family! It was really nice to read this after enjoying their adventures in the Vaders Castle comic books
A solid conclusion to an overall pretty good junior series. Overall it didn't add anything groundbreaking, but it is a fun story for young readers with characters they can relate to.
