This nonfiction title for young readers provides a brief introduction the duck-billed platypus, an animal of perennial interest. The text is clearly written, and the page-sized photographs are vivid and engaging. A few of the topics discussed are the platypus’ diet, role in their environment, and how they care for their young. This is rounded out by a glossary of terms and index. Another feature is the Abdo Kids Code, which allows online access for supplemental material. The book is suggested for preschool to second grade. With its large, simple text and photographs, this book would appeal to that age group. Overall, a good book, though there are likely other books about the same subject on the market. Recommended.
