I couldn’t take the accent!

The heroine: Marlene - She was abducted by evil aliens and crash landed on an ice planet. Unlike many of the other women, Marlene is outgoing and spirited. She doesn’t show any fear, adjust very quickly to her new reality and goes after what she wants.
The Hero: Zennek - he is the most reserved of the sa-khui, and is quite a shy guy who sits back and listens to and watches the other, more outgoing of the tribe. He assumed that he wouldn’t resonate to any of the human women but is surprised when he resonates to Marlene who is his opposite.
The Story: Like the last few IPB books I have read, this one starts in the future and then has flashbacks to the time when the women arrived on the planet. This was ok once or twice, but I’ll admit that I am getting sick of it. I am not a big fan of flashbacks. I like things moving in a more linear order, but it could be worse.
This book was told in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Hollie Jackson and Mason Lloyd. They are the narrators for most of Ruby Dixon’s books and both of them do a great job. I like their narration style for these books and the audiobook versions are usually a pleasure to listen to. However, in this book the main character is French so Hollie did a French accent. Though she did a good job with the accent, I absolutely HATED it! I had to concentrate way too hard to hear what she was saying beneath the strong and annoying accent. I can’t say how much I HATED it. I apologize to French people but those are the facts. I missed much of the story because I couldn’t listen to it and my mind kept wandering.

Finally, we learn more about Marlene!
She's the only one who actually misses her family back on Earth, even though she has none anymore. I love how she sees her mom's signs everywhere. Also, she's French. I am studying French and even I didn't know that tête de noeud basically means di**head. And people say you can't learn anything from books!

Barbarian' s Seduction no se ha convertido en mi libro favorito de esta saga ( tampoco lo esperaba ) pero si es cierto que fue una lectura mucho mas amena de lo que imaginaba, principalmente debido a que la trama es muy simple y sin drama, como bien dice la autora es una historia romantica y ligera que puedes leer en cualquier momento.
Tal vez la relacion de Marlene y Zennek no es la mas asombrosa o adictiva pero para mi que vivo encantada con las sagas de Ruby Dixon fue una novela lo suficiente entretenida como para leerla en poco mas de un dia.
En resumen, Barbarian' s Seduction es el libro ideal para las fans de esta autora y tambien para todas aquellas que busquen un romance sencillo con un toque sobrenatural.

It’s been a while that I’ve a)actually sat down and read a book and b)delved into anything Ruby Dixon. So happy I took the plunge today and sat through the book in its entirety; even though I should have been sleeping in prep for my night shift (working sucks).
I never knew how much a Marlene book was needed until Ruby wrote this. Done so well. Full of happiness and sexy times. Like true Ruby fashion, this was couple-centred, and I loved everything about it. Short. Sweet. To the point. Perfecto.
I don’t think I’ll ever tire of stories like this. You’d think it’d start getting repetitive but, nope. Ruby’s got so much up her sleeve, each character stands out on their own with their own quirks and personalities. So excited for MORE!

I was initially hesitant with this book because I wasn’t the biggest fan of all the superstition stuff, but it tied in well with everything else once the flashback took off. Marlene was awesome - just made of sexual confidence - and was a great counterpart to shy Zennek. She was a tender lover but also teased so much more than any of the other ladies and I was here for it. Zennek was just adorable. His constant blushing and general awkwardness was just so precious.

Marlene is a true girls’ girl! Her kindness toward Ariana, especially when others dismissed her anxiety, always stood out to me. I also loved learning more about Marlene’s backstory and her love of hearts 💙
At only 160 pages, it’s a quick read, but one that’s always stayed a favorite of mine. Hollie Jackson’s narration captured Marlene perfectly

After the disappointing predecessor I was worried to start ‘Barbarian’s Seduction’. I thought that I would maybe struggle with the recaps and time jumps in the story, but I think Ruby Dixon did a great job with that. It didn’t feel like the same story repeatedly.
This also was one of my favorite books in the whole series and I think it was the only one that made me cry. I loved Marlen and felt a strong connection to her, because of her relationship to her mother and the signs she sees.
The romance between her and shy Zennek was also really sweet and loving and they were so good for each other. My heart melted when Zennek learned French for Marlene, so she would feel more at home.
One of the best books in this series and a reminder for me, why I fell in love with Ruby Dixons world and characters.

I’ve finally made it to IPB books I’ve never read before. This book was really sweet. I love shaking it up with a shy man/sexually forward woman combo every once in a while. Marlene and Zennek were skipped over initially so this was a present day story mixed in with a past retelling of when they met and resonated. Usually I don’t like time jumps, but since we stayed in the past for the duration of that story playing out I didn’t mind it. I love how chill and calm Marlene was about her circumstances ending up on a frozen planet with an alien mate. Her being French and superstitious in a cute way was a fun addition. I listened to this as an audiobook while DIYing so it went fast and it was fun listening to the narrator doing a French accent (if at times a bit hard to understand).

Finally, Marlene's story
It's been a while since I've read a book from this series. I've forgotten many things from this series and will probably need to go back and do re-reads of the series. This was a good story of Marlene and Zannek. I'm glad we were able to get to read her story.

I loved finally reading about chill Marlene and shy Zennek. So adorable. This was a fun, sweet read to enjoy during a Sunday afternoon. I highly recommend this one. <3

Marlene + Zennek
A generous 4 stars for Barbarian's Seduction.
This has been a highly anticipated book for me for a long time. Marlene is one of the original shipwrecked gals that has been slightly overlooked. It wasn't until some of the later books that her character starts to develop and shine. And the same goes for Zennek. They were both hidden gems in the background.
It was obvious from previous books that Marlene was the bolder one and called the shots in the bedroom. *smirks* There was also a scene in a previous book where Zennek had love-bites on his neck. So, let's just say I was expecting Marlene to really dominate in the furs.... and I was disappointed. Maybe because I had been looking forward to reading about their beginnings that I had set unrealistic expectations.
Everything else, however, was good. They were true to their characters. Marlene being bold and beautiful. Zennek being adorable and shy. She ends up being the pursuer in their relationship (and I absolutely loved seeing a human seduce a barbarian; hence Barbarian's Seduction). I adored seeing Zennek struggle with the fact that he is indeed mated, something he never thought would happen.
I still highly recommend this one! Don't let my crazy expectations turn you away from experiencing their story for yourself!

3 stars. I feel like this series is a little bit of an obsession ... that I can’t put down but also don’t appreciate as much as I probably would if I did put it down for a while.
Marlene and Zennek are a good couple. I liked the combo of her boldness and his reserve. Still, this book just felt too similar to those that came before it because of the flashbacks to the beginning. Personally, I’m over that stuff now. I want a future storyline where interesting stuff happens. While this had some current events, they were just not very exciting with yet another snowstorm. I feel like the world of Not-Hoth is a little played out at this point, and I think RD should do more with her Risdaverse series instead.
Anyways, I think I was most grossed out by the three mating happening between Zennek’s parents and his mother’s pleasure mate. Old people three-way? Ugh why do we need this visual? Also, supposedly the cootie is so good at choosing and yet it seems like all the couples that got together before the books started aren’t actually happy together? This book is 100% a comfort read for me. It’s tied for first place as my fav IPB book.
There isn’t a ton of plot, as this is a flashback book - the beginning and end are “present day” when Marlene/Zennek have a daughter and have been together 8 years. And the entire middle is 8 years ago, when they first met.
Marlene is a confident, forward Frenchwoman. She left no family behind and isn’t afraid of the ice planet or the new adventure they’re on. Instead she feels immediately drawn to Zennek, a incredibly shy and quiet hunter.
Zennek is one of my favorite heroes of all time. He is so shy the first time he tries to talk to Marlene he can only squawk an awkward sound, but as their relationship develops it turns out he’s quite a freak in the sheets.
Him gaining confidence (in and out of bed) and the fact that despite their differences they are so well matched as a pair (both being comfortable on the fringe of the group, being listeners > leaders) makes them a favorite couple for me.
This is so easy to reread because of the lack of angst; you just get to go on a super fun journey of them falling in lust and love.

Me encantan todas las parejas pero tengo si que tengo algunas en favoritas, y esta se es una de ellas.
A diferencia de los demás libros en este vemos como Marlene si extraña a su madre que incluso ya había fallecido y la ve de algún modo y con un significado muy bonito, porque las otras chicas que yo recuerde solo extrañaban, el chocolate, las duchas, la ropa, cosas materiales en vez de personas, como si no tuvieran familia, lo cual lo hace mas ridículo y absurdo pero eso no le quita lo entretenida, y hot que es esta serie.

Just too many inconsistencies, syntax misuse, and story line confusions were too much for me. I fully realize I will probably be in the minority in this opinion which is another reason I won't say more as it's an individual opinion and no two readers ever read the same book.

Finally, I finished this and it feels like ages...I didn't like storyline, didn't like characters, Marlene's French annoyed me so is Zennek's so called shyness...but overall okay, not per regular IPB standard.

I really like Marlene and Zennek and it was awesome to see there past and present stories in this book. I love how Marlene is so bold with Zennek and how Zennek is bashful, but grows more confident when he is with Marlene. Super cute.

Definitely not my favorite of the series. I DNF'd the audiobook in 2022 because I couldn't get past the narrator's extremely fake French accent. So I tried this one again with an eyeball read & binged it pretty quickly. It's still not my favorite of the series but it was a fun time.

This was way more charming than it had any business being. I loved these two together. They had such a sweet and funny dynamic, and the chemistry was off the charts. The story was pure, unadulterated fun!

5 stars of course, I loved this story and that we finally see these two characters who we have known for so long back story and how they fell in love as well as how they are doing now. Like all the others I loved this book and can't wait for what's to come!

Bumping this up to 5 Stars, this was is so sweet. I love how all in Marlene is from the beginning, and how shy Zennek is with her affections. So many sweet moments, and the sweetest ending with the hearts.

Marlene + Zennek
Marlene is confident and the only one who wasn't crying when the original group of humans arrived to the ice planet. She sees signs that let her know she is where she is suppose to be, and is ready to jump into the furs when she resonates right away to the shy, quiet alien.
Zennek comes from a big family and is known as the quiet one of the tribe. No one thought he would resonate, so it is very shocking that he is one of the first to do so, and to the bold female with heat in her eyes.
This story starts in the present tense with their sweet family, then back flashes to when they first met and resonated. The story then ends in the present tense. There is no expanding of the story arch here, just a look at their family and then their coupling story. Loved their dynamic, again would have loved to have read their story earlier or have seen them more in other books. The back flash stories are all about characters we don't really know, they have always been side characters so I'm not as invested in their stories as I would like to be.
Bumping this up to 5 Stars, this was is so sweet. I love how all in Marlene is from the beginning, and how shy Zennek is with her affections. So many sweet moments, and the sweetest ending with the hearts.

Marlene + Zennek
Marlene is confident and the only one who wasn't crying when the original group of humans arrived to the ice planet. She sees signs that let her know she is where she is suppose to be, and is ready to jump into the furs when she resonates right away to the shy, quiet alien.
Zennek comes from a big family and is known as the quiet one of the tribe. No one thought he would resonate, so it is very shocking that he is one of the first to do so, and to the bold female with heat in her eyes.
This story starts in the present tense with their sweet family, then back flashes to when they first met and resonated. The story then ends in the present tense. There is no expanding of the story arch here, just a look at their family and then their coupling story. Loved their dynamic, again would have loved to have read their story earlier or have seen them more in other books. The back flash stories are all about characters we don't really know, they have always been side characters so I'm not as invested in their stories as I would like to be.

Ruby once again doesn’t disappoint! I adored this story. While I do love a cocky Alpha, my heart just melts at a shy dirty talking male . Zennek does it for me.
This is a story that you could read as a stand-alone, but it is so much better if you know all the back stories. I would recommend reading it after the main group gets matched up. You could read it before the second group arrives. It mostly focus on the couple, and has a few other character interactions. I am so glad Marlene has her own story and that we got to see how her and Zennek began, plus you get to see their relationship 8 years later.
This story is full of dirty talk, and the dirty 😏 but also a lot of love and tenderness. Sweet displays of fatherhood, and this adorable line from Zennek: “I will always come back to you, my mate. You think I could leave your side forever? Impossible. I am not whole without you.” Carry on Ruby, continue your magic fingers and words. I will be a faithful follower til the end.
