Book 3 of the Grays Harbor Series. Deceived by its desolate appearance when they first arrived, the Lockwood family finds itself trapped in the dangerous clutches of Grayland, while the others in the group make their way into the burned-out ruins of Aberdeen in search of another survivor – but with an old adversary following their every move, and the infected becoming more disturbed with each passing day, the entire group finally reaches its breaking point as the world around them begins to collapse. Aberdeen is a thrilling post-apocalyptic horror novel that takes place in the coastal region of the Pacific Northwest, and concludes the first three chapters of the ongoing Grays Harbor Series.
You’d think that after a year, these idiots would learn something about survival. Learn from their pst mistakes but, no they don’t . They just keep doing the same stupid shit.
While this series was fun because I'm familiar with all the locations, it needs some new plot to keep one interested. It's long past the time to either find some new plot or find a decent ending to the whole series.
I waited until I finished the series to review. I loved the premise of the books, as well as the location, as I live in Astoria. What bummed me out was the characters, who often made decisions that made no sense in light of their past behavior and who never seemed to grow.
Book one was intriguing. Book two was more of the same. Book three was more of the same with zero explanation as to what actually happened. Early in book two there was reference to multiple EMPs set off by the government to mitigate the spread of the virus, then it was never mentioned again. Delving further into that realm would have really added to this series. I really hoped that in book three there would be further explanations as to why the world was in ruin, who caused it and why. Nope, none of that. If you want to read about a few folks trying to survive and avoid being killed and/or eaten by infected folks for three book worth, this is the series for you. For me the lack of explanation and depth was a huge turn off.

Kinda more of the same as first two books, running from them and killing or avoiding them. I found myself skipping some pages of physical conflicts just to get to the next goal. Can’t comment on the ending for those who have not read it. But glad that I read the series. It was a really good read and he did a great job. It made me truly think of what I might do or consider doing if this catastrophe ever (god forbid) came to be.... worth reading
the pacing of the series was really strange. they finally “started a new life” in like the last chapter of the book. books 1 and 2 almost felt like the exact same thing and this third book could have been way more sped up. also i read the authors note at the end and a 4th book was supposed to be written so maybe that would have been a better end to the series. i enjoyed the books for the fact that i knew the names and places. but kinda a let down overall.
I've enjoyed the series. There are mistakes, of course; like "the river separating the two cities (Aberdeen and Hoquiam). There is no river "separating the two cities. There is a river down the middle of Hoquiam, however.
It has been a grand undertaking, however. The 4th was to be published in 2020. Covid probably put a dent in that. I'll by the 4th if I find it.
And new favourite author! There are a very few series that I enjoy enough to revisit every few years. I know that this series is now added to my list. The characters are friends who I care about. Their world is bleak and scary enough to please me. I highly recommend spending time in this world to all fans of apocalyptic fiction.
I've never read a book like this. I usually read Historical fiction. It gained my interest since I've been to this area a lot. Of course with our current situation ,the virus. you won't be able to stop reading.
