O, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive!
Will has done well for herself, working as a cowhand for three years, all the while disguised as a young man. She's got a huge chip on her shoulder after being mistreated and disrespected by her father, so she bristles at any thought of acting like a weak female who needs a man to solve her problems.
Charles, on the other hand, is a protector of women and a problem-solver at heart. His feelings for Will are expectedly confusing, until he figures it all out. Even then, he struggles to find a way past her defenses and into her heart.
The author beautifully, delicately, and honestly explores Will's faith as the answer to her anger and need for control. It's a small part of the story, but has a huge impact on helping her figure out what to do with her life. It's a testament to this author's skills that she could make this struggle feel so relatable.
I love the way the author worked out the HEA - both with Charles, and with the entire Oleson family. It's a great story, a wonderful romance, and a stellar installment in this terrific series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Belle Fourche, SD 1902 Will has hired on at the Broken Circle O Ranch and has to prove himself in more ways than one. Because "Will" is really Wilhelmina Galliger and is pretending to be a man and mute so she can get a job! She grew up working on her daddy's ranch so knows all the ropes with handling cattle but she has to prove herself. Unfortunately Charles Oleson is dogging her steps since he was told to keep an eye on her like all the greenhorns hired in. But it seemed everything was a little different than when she had grown up and she was being looked at even more! She really needs to earn her pay because she wants to buy some land. But what will happen if they find out she is a woman? Well, it gets really interesting when he does because they are attracted to each other, but can she maintain her ruse to everyone else? Really enjoyed this story so much and as usual, Kari Trumbo creates a heartfelt tale with her descriptions and words that only makes me want me to read more!!
I had forgotten about Wilhemina story, Really good Story, Charles was great, dependable, and Sweet, he was perfect man for Will. It was exciting and challenging for Will and Charles but it worked out great. Thank you Kari Trumbo.
Another delightful book in this wonderful collection! I needed something light hearted and comical, and a woman pretending to be a man definitely fit the bill!
Scott Bennett continues narrating this series and he and Kari make such wonderful stories come alive!
Will was tough. She had to be to survive her father’s treatment of her and make enough money working as a man to purchase her own homestead. She’s relied on herself for years. She’s stubborn and determined to show herself capable without stopping to listen to and trust in others. Charles didn’t want to babysit the new hired hand, who seems like he’s not strong enough for the job, until he discovers that she’s a woman. They’re attracted to each other, but Will is still determined to go her own way and succeed on her own terms regardless of who she might hurt along the way. When she finally obtains her goal she realizes she is alone in her success and that it wasn’t the land that she really wanted, but acceptance and love, which is what everyone wants in life.
A great addition to the series. Charles is still learning about ranching while being saddled with young Will to train. Except Will is a woman, not a young boy as thought. Will is a stubborn woman who struggles to trust or rely on others. Both of them learn and grow through the story and naturally there's some romance along the way. Loved it!
Wilhelmina "Will" Galliger and Charles Oleson are both headstrong people who don't know how to get out of their own way in order for love to take hold. When Will shows up to work on Charles family ranch the Broken Circle O she pretends to be mute, and a man. She's just looking to make enough money to buy her own place. Charles doesn't like being saddled with the new hire and they have a few rough patches. Luckily for Wilhelmina Charles is a gentleman through and through. This is a growing romance with some pretty amazing characters!
Along a Tangled Path was such a great book. I loved Wilhelmina and her spunk, she is a fun character. Charles is hard at first but deep down he is a soft and protective character. I was drawn into the story from the first page and finished smiling. Wonderful book! Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
Will's tangled path makes for an enticing story. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing if/how long 'he' could keep 'his' secret and who would find out first. There were many unexpected twists but also a good HEA.
This is a book that is full of emotions. Once you start reading it you don't want to stop. You have to find out what's going to happen to Will next. It is full of twists, turns and tension. I received an ARC copy of this book and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Along a Tangled path is a sweet historical romance in the Brothers of Belle Fourche series by Kari Trumbo. Having listened to the other books in the collection I was anxious for this latest one and was not disappointed. The author has captured well the era of the setting (1900, South Dakota) and the emotions and actions of her characters. They are realistic and relatable and I was drawn quickly into their story and enjoyed watching the romance between Charles and Wilhelmina develop. Wilhelmina, a determined young woman, is working toward buying her own land and has quite the secret. Charles, the Broken Circle O Ranch owner's nephew has been assigned to watch over the new 'guy' but he begins to think there is something more than meets the eye with him. Will her determination to not allow a man dominate her and her desire for land keep them apart? There are a few surprises in the story which keep the reader's interest high and the author does a nice job wrapping up the romance. I wish it had been a little bit longer story to allow for more details at the end but perhaps there is another book ahead. I can only hope. Although sixth in the series, it is easily a stand-alone story but I'd recommend reading the other books in the series as well. Readers of historical romance books will not want to miss this one. I listened to a complimentary copy of the audiobook and was not required to write a review and the opinions are my own. The narrator, J. Scott Bennett, did a great job telling Charles and Will's story, which made for an enjoyable listening experience.
I am really loving this series of cowboy stories. They are just the kind one can sit down with at the end of a hard day and relax and enjoy. This one is a sweet story and throughout I keep wondering whether Will's secret would be discovered. She is a headstrong and capable young lady and I loved this strength in her even though she was living the strangest of lives. Charles is a caring and responsible young man who has been assigned to make sure she stays out of harms way and to teach her the way the ranch is run. Lovely characters written into a beautiful love story by Kari Trumbo and very capably narrated by J. Scott Bennett. I could listen to him all day. I requested and listened to the audiobook version which I thoroughly enjoyed. My voluntary and unbiased review is given freely above.
Among A Tangled Path by Kari Trumbo Brothers of Belle Fourche book 6
Wilhelmina “Will” Galloper really had no training except by her father, treated her as she had no value. Charles is learning to work a round-up for his uncle.
Will disguises herself as a mute and a man. She has worked for three years on ranches and is wanting to buy her own. Charles is assigned to train her.
The book is a story of deceit, discovery, learning and finally love.
This is book 6 of the series. I read it without reading all of the previous books and it stood alone. It probably would have been even better with more of the back-story.
I received this audiobook free with no requirement of review. I am reviewing this book of my own accord and am giving my honest opinion.
Along a Tangled Path (Brothers of Belle Fourche #6) was a great read by Kari Trumbo. Charles is working with the new ranch hands at the Broken Circle O when he is assigned a smaller mute man to watch over. He realizes pretty quickly that there is more to Will Galliger than meets the eye. Wilhelmina "Will" Galloper is doing whatever she needs to in order to own a plot of land. That even includes acting like a man. Will has pretended to be mute for three years as she has worked all over the West in order to earn enough money. Charles and Will fight their attraction. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.
Will wants to have her own land. After being treated very poorly by her father she just left her place. She disguised as a man to earn the money she needs. When Charles got the responsibility for a mute young man he’s not happy. There’s something strange about him. What will happen when Charles discovers her secret? Will she really get the chance to be independent? I really enjoyed this story, the though Will who will do everything to reach her goal and the care Charles shows to help. Looking forward to read the last book in this series but sad it will be the last.
I loved this! Disguised as a cowboy Wilhelmina works as a rancher to make money to buy her own ranch someday. Charles is assigned to help the new ranch hand. - Babs
I listened to this one on audio. This book was another in this fantastic series. The characters are great and the the writing is great. You won't be disappointed in the book. J Scoot Bennett who narrates this book...you just cannot go wrong with him. He is amazing.
Another great story by Kari Trumbo!!! I love listening to the Brothers of Belle Fourche books, and can't wait for the last book to come out as an audiobook. Along A Tangled Path is another great story in the series weitten by Kari Trumbo and narrated by J. Scott Bennett.
This is an awesome continuation of this series. Each story is stand alone but if you can read them in order you’ll get more out of each character. The author gently writes about characters coming back to God. You will not regret your time you spent on these books.
I'm really enjoying this series and getting to know all the Oelson family. The addition of the cousins really added to this heartwarming family. I loved Charles and Wilhelmina's story and look forward to the next book.
Will went by her nickname in order to pass as a ranch hand and intending to earn enough for her own land. Charles is not happy to be charged with traits new recruit, let alone a boy. Surprises mount as two stubborn people collide.
I have finished the whole series but forgot to post at end of last book. Every book was a delightful book to read. A good clean read Held my interest totally
