Unapologetically Me

Rate this book
For as far back as she can remember, Fatima Ward has been told that she would be a doctor. She has never challenged that path and secretly fulfills her love of telling stories online. While working on a fanfiction story using real-life rapper Jericho, she finds comfort in a new reader as her personal life implodes around her. Jericho was born Jaren Young in Brooklyn, New York. Basketball was his first love, but an incident in college ripped that dream from him. He turns to his gift of writing poetry and becomes one of Hip Hop’s top emcees after just one album. While in the midst of working on his second album, he is introduced to an online story based on his life. After reaching out to the author to learn about her inspiration, the two anonymously connect on a level neither of them expected. This is the first book in the "Unapologetically Me" series.

I like to eat Peanut M&M’s mixed with movie popcorn and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is my kryptonite. I enjoy writing stories about flawed women who find their place in the world after overcoming obstacles. I believe strongly that books have the power to heal as much as they entertain.

When I’m not writing, you can find me buried in a book, watching a basketball game, or spending time with my family.

I don't know what took me so long to read this!!! I was truly missing out!
I loved this sorta friends to lover romance.
The online friendship building was super sweet and helped make the the transition from friends to lovers more believable to me. The back and forth made sense to me because they EACH had a lot going on. Glad it all worked out in the end.
The narrators were amazing! I expect nothing less from Jakobi Diem and the lady narrator was a new-ish to me narrator Patryce Williams.

Love love LOVED!!! This was such a good story and has kept me thoroughly entertained. Fatima had a passion for writing and she’s great at it! Despite the fact that she’s currently living out her parents dream of becoming a doctor, writing is her true passion. She writes under an alias online and folks are eating her stories UP!! It’s like kindle Vella where folks are hanging on to every word waiting for new “episodes” to be released. Her recent set of stories is loosely based on Jaren aka Jericho a well known rapper that is a household name. Once someone from his team makes him aware that the stories could be about him, he creates an account to read her stories and loves them like you love Sunday brunch wit cha girls! These two begin to bond over her stories and a connection is formed. Once their true identities are revealed the connection only gets stronger. There’s just one problem, no one wants them together and when I say no one, I mean NO ONE!!! Everyday they are waking up to blog posts and tmz sightings and Wendy Williams interviews and sex tapes…. YES SEX TAPES 📽️🎞️📹🎥 You name it they went through it. This was a JOURNEY!!!! I loved how the story played out and I can’t wait to dive into book 2. Sadly it’s not on audio so who knows when I’ll get to it… eventually 🥴😩

Sweet! Sassy! Suspenseful!

I hated that Fatima was so willing to give up her own dreams to satisfy her domineering mother. It took Rapper Jericho/Jaren to open her eyes and see that her life was her own and she had the right to make her own choices.

Fatima's best friends, Chanel and Autumn are super cray-cray but super supportive when life becomes overwhelming for her.

On to book # 2, hope all editing errors have been corrected in that one!

Fatima x Jericho

First of, this book was 86 chapters long. Just wanted that to be known.
But, there was not a moment this book did not keep me hooked. It was written and developed so well. Fatima kinda lived a double life. The one her parents wanted for her: medical school, marriage to KeVon, and a job as a doctor. And the other life where she wanted to become a published writer. While living her parents’ dream, she decides to live a little for herself and write under the Nom de Plume, Yara, by releasing weekly chapters into the WriteNow App. She grew a fan base, which included one of the hottest rappers in the game, Jericho. After realizing the stories were inspired by him, Jericho was intrigued and started to engage with Yara through the site. Soon, a friendship was formed that bloomed into a relationship. A relationship that took hit after hit after hits. At one point, I was ready for them to call it quits and just walk away. It was just tew much, cause the world was against them and wouldn't let them be great. But these two fought hard for their love, and they finally got their HEA. I would’ve loved an epilogue, but there's a part 2 to this story. I also would’ve loved a super dose of karma, served hot. Hopefully, everyone gets what's coming to them in book 2
I super loved this story. As always, Jakobi did phenomenal. The female narrator, Patryce, is new to me. She was good, not great.

I don't know what of foreign substances Danesha Little put in this book but I stayed up until 3 AM listening to this book. Believe me, I tried to turn it off and got to sleep but it kept calling me.

This book is really for the book girlies. The ones that fantasize about meeting their celebrity crush in the most unexpected and mysterious ways. I truly enjoyed this book. I loved everything from the character growth down to the love story. Easily one of my favorite reads this month.

Fatima Ward has her life mapped out for her, even if it's not exactly what she has her heart set on. She found a way to come alive by writing fiction under her pen name.

When the object of her writing, Hip Hop rapper Jaren 'Jericho' Young gets word of her using him as the lead in her story, fiction turns into reality in the most unexpected ways.

As a picky reader, I'm always elated when I come across new reads that are beyond my expectations. This book was suggested in a reading challenge, and since I had a free trial on KU, I gave it a shot. OMG, I was undoubtedly hooked after the 3rd page of reading! As a slow reader, I stayed up day and night for 3 whole days reading this book. It legit took my life and had me totally transfixed! Danesha Little is a new author to me, but listen, she is on the must read list! I even went back and bought this book on Amazon; that's how stellar it is!

I loved the friends to lovers theme with a twist; Jaren and Fatima got together in such an unconventional way in these times of instant hookups. I loved how their was build to their relationship and not some fast and forced coupling (though Jaren's world would consider that the norm). I loved how Little created a fictional music industry, but used some notable real stars and events to make it seem so much more plausible. The glitz and glamor that Fatima was swept up into with Jaren set off a series of events that was downright suspenseful. Little surely has a knack for creating drama and there was so much in this book! I was literally fighting with Jaren and Fatima (tooth and nail) as they were figuratively and sometimes literally hit with circumstances set to keep them apart. With so many highs, I appreciated the lows in which both lead characters would find themselves in their own cacoon away from the outside forces and get totally lost in each others bodies (mmp) and often times, complete soul-searching.

Jaren is BAE ! LAWD, this man was pure compelling talent on the stage and also in the sheets! He took control and was such a shield for Fatima. Little wrote the hell out of their coupling and I fell in a trance watching them take on the world while getting lost in each other. Fatima is such a down to earth character and I totally can see a lot of myself in her with her many insecurities. Her character development was quite evident throughout the entire book. Also, the minor characters added so much to the storyline; from the family and friends to the industry execs and staff!

The epilogue was so fitting and a bit of a surprise! Nothing about this book was rushed and the plot was executed perfectly! Ugh, I'm always so pleased when I stumble across a read that not only offers quality but quantity and with over 350 pages, Little surely lays her writing soul bare. For a debut novel, I couldn't believe how well written this was!

I cannot wait for book 2: definitely an automatic one-click from now on!

Kudos

I Can Only Be Me

I am so happy that I took the advice of my Sista-readers about reading this book. It was so freakin good. I could not believe that this is this author’s first novel. The characters and storyline pull you in and keep you there.

Fatima was so aggravating and honestly Jericho deserved better and while I understand that she went through a lot so did he. She never considered his feelings at all. Everything was about her despite the fact that Jericho was hurting she was still his first priority and showed her that often she still played with his feelings, denied her feelings and ghosted on him. I wanted him to leave her and I won’t read the sequel because I heard her behavior is much the same.

While Fatima is fulfilling her parents dreams of becoming a doctor, she secretly writes fan-fiction. Her story 'Jericho's Heart' based on the real life popular rapper Jericho is very popular on the site WriteNow. Once the real Jericho stumbles upon her story, he is intrigued and reaches out to Fatima under an alias to find out what inspired her to create her story. Unbeknownst to Fatima; she does not realize she has been communicating with the actual Jericho. They begin a back and forth dialogue and the chemistry is immediate. This story was a rollercoaster ride of love, trust, fear, self-confidence and strength. The writing was so authentic, you could imagine this happening in real life. Fatima was confident but insecure at the same time. Jaren aka Jericho was loyal, dedicated, but shown vulnerability. Together you watch the couple deal with love, heartbreak, betrayal, forgiveness and most importantly self-care. I really enjoyed this storyline, it was perfectly thought-out and executed. I took off half a star because there were minor typos, however it did not take away from the story. This is the debut novel by this author and I must say she will be on my list of authors to look out for. Kudos

I can honestly say I liked this book. However, I was VERY LONG! Fatima and Jaren's online friendship and subsequent relationship was so well developed in the beginning. Their relationship had typical ups and downs. The normal push and pull. Jaren was all man - honest, vulnerable, sexy a.f., has thug tendencies (which I love) and is vocal about loving his woman. Fatima on the other hand was fickle a.f. She was on my nerves at about chapter 40 and I was really hoping she was man up much sooner than she finally did. I'm all for a woman having to work out her issues in order to finally get her HEA but this one took FOREVER!! I had to revisit this book a couple of times in order to make it through. All in all its a good read, just be prepared for ALOT of back and forth.
PS..the audio makes the length very bareable. I mean Jakobi Diem as Jaren/Jericho. PERFECT choice!!

Fatima and Jared, from FanFiction to reality

This was such a unique story that I genuinely enjoyed reading. Fatima is in her last year of college and on the way to medical school. Unbeknownst to her friends and family, she secretly writes fanfiction. The story is about Jericho, a popular hip-hop artist. Through his assistant, Jericho learns about the very popular story. He reaches out to Fatima anonymously. They begin a friendship. Their anonymous friendship becomes reality, and then becomes much more.

I loved how original the story was. The characters were well developed and the story is very layered. I’m looking forward to the next book. This is a story that I highly recommend.

“Unapologetically Me” by Danesha Little was such a breath of fresh air. This romance focuses on Jaren and Fatima. Fatima wants to be a writer but the pressures from her family to become a doctor stops her from living her dream. Instead, she opts to anonymously write a fanfiction book about the rapper, Jericho. Jericho, whose real name is Jaren, stumbles across one of her stories and this is where our unapologetic love story begins.

I really enjoyed this book. Growing up, I was really into the fanfiction community so to see that aspect in this book definitely brought back some feelings of nostalgia. I loved watching Jericho and Fatima’s relationship steadily bloom. Nothing against instant love stories but I just love to see the natural progression of a relationship, especially when it comes to full length books.

The characters in this book were well developed and relatable. The plot was fantastic. No detail was left uncovered. There were a few times where the pacing of the book slowed down but it was pretty fast paced for the most part. It contained just the right amount of drama. There were so many elements to this story and it was definitely a rollercoaster of a read. I really have to say that I did not know what to expect when beginning this book. It was suggested to me and I am so glad that I read it. Danesha Little definitely exceeded my expectations and came out of the gate swinging with this debut novel. I cannot wait to read book two of this series.

❤️this one!

Okay, so I absolutely love Jaren and Fatima!!! Like, I love them! Lol. What I loved the most was that Fatima was a regular around the way girl that stole the heart of a famous rapper. She wasn’t about the fame or money. Fatima struggled a ton throughout this book. She definitely had some insecurities and then she was trying to please her parents instead of going after what her passion was. Jaren was such a book bae!! He didn’t care who it was or where it was, nobody was going to disrespect Fatima. 🙌🏾there was a ton of messages that this book touched on but my favorite was seeing Fatima in therapy and recognizing her worth. This really was a great book and I cannot wait to read the rest of the series!

LOVED IT

This is my first time reading this author's work and I loved every minute of this book. Very well written, great character development and storyline. Jared and Fatima were perfect together. What I liked the most was how they met behind the scenes by just their screen names. The way their conversations flowed as if they knew each other all along made it even better when they finally met in person. Although there were a few fake friends and scandalous stories, Jared and Fatima's love for each other stood strong. I was definitely rooting for them and glad they put all issues aside to finally get that happy ending. Can't wait to read what's next for this couple.

Unapologetically good! This was my first read by this author and it was so freaking good. Jaren was bae, his character was written so perfectly that he had me at hello. Fatima was perfectly flawed, difficult and frustrating just how I like my heroines. The story flowed so well I thought I was in their world. This was a dope, weighty read and I can’t wait to read part 2.

Terrific!!

This book was so emotional and mind-blowing..Jaron and Fatima had to fight thru everything and honestly I understood her running especially after therapy.Jaron’s circle was horrible especially Larry and to think Courtney was suppose to be his real friend when in real she never was..I loved his start and I loved how they met so you knew the love was real with them!! It was such a real and honest and emotional book. The book covered forgiveness, fake friends, difficult parents ,cheating ,lying but also love, true friendship!!! 10 ⭐️

What would you do if you found out that your favorite celebrity crush was your online bestie who you've fallen for? That's what Fatima Ward finds out when she finds out that the man she has been telling her secrets to is one of the hottest rappers in the game, Jericho aka Jaren Young.

Fatima has a lot going on she wants to fulfill her parents dreams of her becoming a pediatric doctor but also longs to be a successful author. On top of that she has to deal with betrayal from her friend and long term boyfriend. In comes Jaren a man she can share all her secrets and dreams with. They instantly fall for each while trying to navigate the spotlight and vindictive people in Jaren's inner circle.

Ms. Little is a new author and she put her foot in this book. I honestly couldn't put this book down. I actually loved both characters in this book and appreciate the themes that the author explores. Fatima after an extreme health scare has lost a lot of weight but doesn't think that she's good enough for Jaren because she's not as skinny as the women he usually dates. I only wish the author would have explored Fatima's depression a little bit more and how it manifested with her eating habits. How do you navigate life in this new body and still be happy with yourself? With Jaren he has to navigate cutting off poisonous people in his inner circle threatening his relationship.

My only issue was towards the end with Jaren's lack of understanding why Fatima needed help without him. I completely understand someone in her position needing a breaking. I thought his character needed to be more understanding, it came off as her being wishy washy but the breakdown of their relationship wasn't her fault at all. In fact she gave him warning left and right about his circle but he wouldn't listen.

Overall, this was really well done debut with very few editing errors. There is only one big error and that's once chapter that's mislabeled with the wrong persons voice. I give this debut 5 stars, I definitely would love to see these characters again especially Autumn.

Man, I so wanted to give this the 5 stars, but I couldn't!!!

I so wanted to give this first time reading this author the 5 stars and if possible more but I couldn't for the life me. See this started out so wonderful, so perfect, so good that I was asking myself, why did I waited so long to do a thorough search and found this author before, but as I progressed in the story several things killed me.
1) WHAT IS UP WITH FATIMA? Man, could someone be so, 😡😡😡 so than anything. Could she have dropped dead already?
2) why is Jaren so bae and had to be hooked up to this disgraced of a female? And last 3) why did she now, all of a sudden wants it and it's all good?
Fatima, started as the perfect main chick. Samar, educated, intelligent. The perfect girlfriend and the perfect everything, with a strong personality had to go down the drain as such.
Jaren, man he is bae all the way and doesn't need any changes or improvements. This guy was and is the best. Loyal, smart, alpha, he is the perfect one.
This started it out perfectly and then Fatima had to become this selfish, bratty, female that no one likes in their corner (at least not me). I truly didn't see this coming, where she become a totally different person who doesn't deserved this wonderful man by her side, and for that it removed all of the appeal of this book. So many people go thru stuff and they stick together and fight together while they move forward, but this woman right here, man, she doesn't deserve anyone. Her mother was so right to push KeVon on to her because that's who she deserved because she doesn't deserved better.
I am so mad right now, specially I feel like I should read the second book no matter what and that annoys me.

4 Conflicted ⭐️

Conflicted because, the writing was top notch BUT I’m big mad at how Fatima behaved.

I felt that hurt when she decided she wanna get right herself. Sis was basically running away in the middle of crisis. Her home was being attacked and she ran. She was acting as if she was the only one in pain. Selfish and weak.

I’m not saying she should have ignored her emotions in favor of her man or some bear it and smile nonsense no. I wanted them to be united in dealing w the challenges that arose, but noo, Ms Ma’am flaked. Then, she blamed Jaren for her trauma, I was so hurt. Ngl I felt that thing my chest, that I cried big girl tears. & I was liking her up until that point. lol so Fatima can actually f/outta here. I’m angry

She really showed her ass. She said “I’m protective of us” but when the time came to do exactly that she left. Please is that love?

Also, the drama, the mess, the challenges surrounding their relationship was handled too immaturely. I didn’t feel like I was reading about grown ups, it was like I was reading about juveniles. Flying off the handle first before communicating.

I’m very conflicted about this story. I feel like it should have gone in a different direction than what I read. But it sounds like I’m having a tantrum about not getting my way lol soooo I can’t even front, it was a good book. Even though I’m in my feelings lol

I don’t think I’ll read the second book, bc i don’t think I could handle it if Fatima showed her ass…again

Love Writes

This book is well written and I was so intrigued to read it just to see what is going to happen next. I love how Fatima and Jaren love "foundation" was built from just discussing one of her stories threw an app without each not knowing who the other was. I also love how he embraced her for her with her size unlike her ex that kept pushing for her to lose more weight. Jaren thought she was sexy from the moment he laid eyes on her. They definitely went through some trials and tribulations, jealousy, backstabbing, harassment, and heart ache but they made it threw those storms. Fatima and Jaren are so lovable and brought to life it makes you anxious to see what's next for them two. I am ready to read the next book I will be one of the first ones to purchase.

The issues that are brought up in this book from her parents expecting her to be a doctor when her passion was writing, accepting love in anyway you can get it, to Jaren not having a real father figure. I am glad you as the author (Danielle) made sure to bring this issues to the forefront. Since we saw how Fatima seeked out therapy to help with all her issues I hoping the next book iron out Jaren' s father figure issues.

KeVon is a fuckboy. Deja is a dumb bitch, but Fatima’s mom is trash.

I wish Fatima’s weight didn’t drop even lower just before her and Jaren saw each other in person for the first time.

Courtney was frustrating trying give relationship advice whilst clinging on to a dog. I will say when I read chapter one i thought she was going to be Jaren’s love interest. She stayed whilst he smashed his girl then stayed the night. But by chapter two I realized what the deal was

PD is pain in the ass

Even month into the relationship Fatima was insecure about jaren seeing her with her head scarf on. That’s something black women need to enlighten men on early into the relationship. I get waiting a month or two but this far in it shouldn’t even be a thing. And I’m 100% certain he doesn’t care

I really like Jarens mom

Courtney is a closet freak

Larry needed his ass whooped

The publisher was messed up for putting Fatima on pause. I wish she could’ve went somewhere else

Autumn is an awesome best friend

Although they each drove me crazy and some points l really liked Fatima and Jaren as individuals and a couple. I was sold on their love story

Fatima is a senior in college, on her way to medical school, in order to appease her parents. Secretly, she is also a writer that uploads her books to a site with a huge following. Her latest, just happens to be about a rising rapper named Jericho. Unbeknownst to her, he is one of the readers, who is in constant communication with her about this book. After months of the back and forth, they meet up, and the rest, as they say...is history.

Jaren aka Jericho has created a name for himself in the music industry. His relationship with Fatima brings many challenges...some of which she may not be able to handle.

Their future can only be determined by two people who are willing to silence the outside world and live their lives UNAPOLOGETICALLY.

This book was fast paced and filled with drama. It had my emotions on high, yet anxious to turn the page in seek of more. I thoroughly enjoyed my first read by @dlittlewriter and look forward to reading more. Unfortunately, I have to give it 💎💎💎💎, because of minor grammatical errors.

Such an amazing and thorough novel! I loved Fatima and Jaren's story! This story was a real jewel! The story line was very relatable and so well written. I felt the emotions of the main characters and fell in love with how their relationship evolved. I loved how Fatima grew, went through therapy and grew into her own woman. Jaren was so loyal and it sucked that he had such a toxic team surrounding him. Autumn was that ride or die friend that everyone needs to be ready to lay hands on anybody that steps out of line. Deja, Kevon and Larry were the worst. Jaren was so supportive of Fatima and I'm glad she chose to live life for herself instead of to please others. I liked that writing was Jaren and Fatima's passion. This was my first time reading a novel by this author and I absolutely enjoyed every single chapter!

loved almost everything about this book. (its long yall)
This story is every fangirls dream! Fatima is not your typical FMC...shes flawed, has issues and doesnt always respond the way I wanted and I love to see it. Being thrust into the limelight, being with a celebrity would be hard to adjust to and living up to family expectations is real struggle.

Jericho had his own issues and it was hard to think he was so gullible with his pack and the industry...but i forgave his shortcomings because...WHEW!!!!!!
This story was hard to let go of.

Female narrator took a little time adjusting to as her voices didnt get consistent until about halfway through.
Excited to hear whats next

Would’ve been 5 stars if they didn’t make them break up towards the end and only reunite at the end. The way they reunited at the end won me over again though.

This book really highlights how self sabotaging can ruin a good thing and how unfair it is to bring old situations into a new relationship.

However, I really do understand Fatima’s reluctance despite Jaren being an amazing partner to her. The reality of what comes with being with a celebrity was far more than she bargained for.

I’m glad she wrote down exactly how she felt instead of expecting him to just know.

I love that they had that in common.

This was a great first read from new author Danesha Little. In Unapologetically Me, we meet Fatima Ward, a student on her way to starting medical school much to the delight of her parents. Fatima, focused on pleasing her parents, hides her true passion of writing. Using the alias, @YaraTheWriter, she writes fan fiction about celebrity rapper Jericho. Jericho, whose real name is Jaren Young, is introduced to Fatima’s story, Jericho’s Heart, through a social storytelling platform and begins contacting @YaraTheWriter with feedback about her writing. They develop a friendship that eventually leads to the two actually meeting and much more.

This story is one of the most accurate I’ve read in characterizing the current media environment and how sensationalism has replaced integrity in journalism. With everyone trying to be on the come up, Jericho is forced to examine those he can trust and eliminate those who are just there to benefit from his spotlight. As his relationship with Fatima progresses, his haters increase. Others think she’s a distraction to his work, while he feels she’s the balance he’s been needing in his life.

Although the characters are relatively young in the story, the obstacles they face could separate the most mature couple. Jaren’s love for Fatima was unwavering in spite of her difficulty in adjusting to his world. Fatima is caught in a whirlwind, learning to trust again, navigating being in a relationship with a celebrity, meeting her parent’s expectations and believing in herself to do what she loves. The book takes Fatima and Jaren on a journey of self-discovery while dealing with issues of doubt and depression. It is ultimately a love story about them both taking steps whether together or apart to build a long-lasting foundation for their relationship.

I really enjoyed reading this book and actually completed it in a day. The writing is engrossing and reads much like a true story. Little surprisingly brings a fresh perspective to a familiar storyline. I’m looking forward to reading the sequel to see how the story continues. There are some errors in the story but overall, I give it 4 stars.
