The author Xi Xi builds a doll house of the British Georgian era of the 18th century as clue and explores the architecture, furniture and decoration of the then Britain, showcasing the character conversations, daily life, local customs and practices and historical stories of that time, amid which the author also knits her daily life. It is like a historical reconstruction. The author shares her rich knowledge and life fun with creative art layout and narration.

About the author

西西（1938年10月7日－），原名張彥，又名張愛倫，香港作家、編輯，生於上海，祖籍廣東省中山縣，小學畢業於上海，1950年定居香港，就讀於協恩中學，初中時在中文部，中四後轉入英文部。同時並開始投稿香港的報刊、雜誌，曾作短篇小說《瑪利亞》，獲《中國學生周報》徵文比賽小說組第一名。[1]其後畢業於葛量洪教育學院，曾任教師工作，任教於官立小學。對於詩、小說、散文、童話均有涉獵。她勇於嘗試新寫作風格，寫作手法涉獵之廣，敘述手法之細膩，是當前華文作家中的佼佼者。

西西的筆名，據她本人所述，乃象形文字，「西」是一個穿著裙子的女孩子兩隻腳站在地上的一個四方格子裡，「西西」就是跳飛機的意思，這是她小時候喜歡玩的一種遊戲。

裝飾娃娃屋的過程很有趣，到各處參觀娃娃屋展覽和喬治亞式建築的經歷也很有意思；要是能多配幾張照片就更好了。

順帶談論英國的歷史，虛擬人與玩偶或玩偶之間對話像作者對文學、社會發展的觀察和抒發己見。有時不免覺得拉拉雜雜牽扯太多（尤其當我不太認同作者評論時）。
