Saffron Skye can see color like nobody else. What she can’t see is how a hardboiled detective in a fedora ends up on her Hawaiian egg farm and how she ends up in Honolulu’s historic Iolani Palace.
Money’s gone missing from the Friends of Hens fundraiser. Money that was meant to help care for some of Hawaii’s feral chickens. Now Saffron’s on the trail with just a wing and a prayer.
It’s gonna be rough, see, as Saffron faces off with the toughest criminals on the island. Scatter in a handful of wild chicken activists and a jazzy nightclub right out of the roaring twenties, and Saffron is bound to ruffle some feathers.
This is a DNF for me. I’ve enjoyed most of this series so far but Saffron is making worse and worse decisions based on her ‘need to organize things’. Hate it when the mc just gets plain stupid. I’m done with the series.
The characters in this cozy mystery are full of generosity of spirit and look for the best in people. This noir-inspired mystery delves into the underside of Honolulu with 1920s-obsessed villains and plenty of improbable peril for our small-town chicken farmer gumshoe. For some reason, everyone spills their guts to Saffron Skye, and she always happens to stumble on the exact clue she needs to get to the next stage of the mystery. However, the coincidences never take away from the story. The characters are remarkable and the chickens The best parts of these stories are the settings and the food. It's the cheapest trip to Hawaii I've ever taken. My favorite in the series so far is Hen Party, but every title in the series is enjoyable hammock reading! I couldn't put the book down.
Who knew I would like a series where chickens are a major element? And that I would look up the different breeds, as well as learn Hawai’ian history? But in case these don’t seduce you, know that the plotting is as tight as a knot in fishing line, characterisation is solid, and the books are the best entertainment!
Didn't like this one as much as the previous entries. Felt it was missing that familiar homey cozy vibe. But it was still an enjoyable read and I'll definitely be picking up the next as soon as my TBR is caught up.
Awesome. A terrific read. A wonderful plot - well thought out and runs as smoothly as silk. Taking our main character from organising a benefit to bring down a criminal ring and murderers. The characters are superb but frankly with her boyfriend miles away couldn't she have someone closer to home? The Chicken Benefit she has organised at short notice is a success right up until the donations are stolen. Now she doesn't know which way to turn. A chance remark from one of her cottage renters has her visiting a newly set up antique and collectibles store. Only to discover a missing treasure from the Royal Palace - then it too is stolen. Add in a thief, a fence, shady dealings by cops, murder, a gambling den, counterfeiters and poisoning as well as a 'contractor' working for the FBI. Can she work out who did what? Will the rescue come in time? Will the treasure and the money be returned?
Saffron is adjusting to her life in Hawaii and has even started doing some local event planning. But the benefit to support stray chickens goes horribly wrong when the donations are stolen and Saffron finds herself on the wrong side of a major crime spree. With her boyfriend out of town, the only person she can think to trust is a shady character staying in one of her guest houses, but even he can't protect her when the crooks realize Saffron's special talents.
This is a very twisty tale that was exactly what i was looking for. It has a heap of cozy elements, but it ties in a variety of spine-tingling moments of suspense to keep things interesting. I love the chickens in this series a lot, and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
This was great! It was exciting to see a whole new side to Hawaii life…albeit not the greatest side haha. At times I felt this was a little dark or seedy, but I feel like that is exactly what Saffron was feeling. And I realized that’s what a great author does, they are able to put you right in there with their characters! I felt tense when she was, I felt relief when she did, I felt hope and confusion when she did.
Such a well written mystery. I love this series and can’t wait to see what happens next. This author is fantastic, I don’t remember how I stumbled upon this series but I am so grateful that I did. Since book one it has captivated my heart. Do yourself a favor and start this series, you will not regret it!!!

Saffron has finished renovating up the three outbuildings on her egg farm and now has guests coming to stay. The latest.is a man who keeps to himself and covers his upper face with a fedora. Now, it seems wherever she goes, the man in the fedora can be seen. But that's not the weirdest thing in her life at present. She's planning an event to benefit a group that raises funds to help feed the feral chickens of Hawaii. There's enough happening to make your head swim and keep you up at night, so don't miss this third installment of Saffron Skye in paradise!
So glad I tried this series. It’s so good! I love that it’s a completely different cozy, taking place in Hawaii with a heroine who finds herself inheriting an egg farm, making unexpected friendships, and embracing her unique gift of color sight to solve mysteries. Can’t wait to read the entire series!
Another great read from Josi Avari. The stories keep getting better, and the characters are incredible.
Hard Boiled was well loaded with twists and turns! Again, I laughed out loud, cried (just a little), and could not put this book down until I had read it through.
I highly recommend jumping into this fabulous series, Aloha Chicken Mysteries, it is a paradise!
This is a great series. I absolutely love the characters. The mysteries are so well written. The island is described beautifully and like a character itself. And the chickens!
Saffron's cozy Hawaiian farm life takes a terrifying turn when a dangerous team of crooks set up shop in her small town. And Keahi isn't there to help thwart them! Without her anchor, can Saffron survive? And who stole the money from the Friends of Hens? Don't miss this one!
Great storytelling, compelling characters, dynamic pace, and, of course, delightfully vivid descriptions of Hawaiian food, scenery, and culture. I’m happy to be hooked!
5 stars for a fun, intelligent, and well rounded cozy mystery. Full of Hawaiian culture and traditions, colors, food, family and friendship. Kept me guessing until the end. I’ve loved every book in the series so far and plan to read more books in the series!
I had a hard time finishing this book. The story seemed to keep going on and not getting anywhere. So halfway through, I started and read another book. I came back to the book and finished the story. I liked the end of the book, when I decided to finish it.
Another great mystery in this series, and such enjoyable fun. The characters are full and feel like neighbors, and how can you beat Oahu as your location.
One of my GR friends recommended this series, and I’m so very glad she did. I love that it’s set in Hawaii and that we learn a bit more about Hawaiian culture and traditions with every book. I like Saffron, the MC, and the way she’s settled into running a Hawaiian chicken farm along with her event-planning business.
There was quite a lot going on in this book besides the mystery – counterfeiting, money laundering, stolen artifacts and antiques and a crooked cop to boot. Many of the characters were people you would want to keep happy, and it wasn’t until the end of the book that we got to know who were the good guys and who were bad guys.
The next several books from this series are in my audiobook collection, and I’m eager to return to Hawaii to visit again with Saffron, chicken Curry, and the rest.
