Things are going great for Sutton Kay, or at least they were. Her yoga studio is doing well, she's living with her best friend, and she just got two kittens named Mocha and Cappuccino. Sure, she doesn't have a girlfriend, but her life is full and busy.

Then her building is sold and the new landlord turns out to be the woman putting in a gym downstairs who doesn't seem to understand the concepts "courtesy" and "don't be rude to your tenants." Sutton can't get a read on Tuesday Grímsdóttir, but she can appreciate her muscles. Seriously, Tuesday is ripped. Not that that has anything to do with anything since she's too surly to have a conversation with, and won't stop pissing Sutton off.

Sutton's life gets interesting after she dares Tuesday to make it through one yoga class, and then Tuesday gives Sutton the same dare. Soon enough they're spending time working out together and when the sweat starts flowing, the sparks start flying. How is it possible to be so attracted to a person you can barely stand?

But when someone from Tuesday's past shows up and Sutton sees a whole new side of Tuesday, will she change her mind about her grumpy landlord? Can she?

Sapphic grumpy/sunshine romance between a yoga teacher and a CrossFit trainer.

I am very much here for foul-tempered women in romance (not to mention weight-lifting women with big muscular thighs), but Tuesday crossed a line for me. The set up is that Tuesday is rude and aggressive, but she takes it to a point of seriously and repeatedly interfering with Sutton's business--plays booming music that messes up the yoga classes, sets up renovations (she owns the building) without warning, and has her packages delivered to Sutton. We eventually learn she was doing all this to get Sutton's attention which...that's what they say about boys pulling girls' hair. It put me right off.

Once Tuesday stopped being such a dick, there's a sweet and sexy romance here, but the weighting of the story is quite heavily towards the jerk parts. Those who like grumpy jerk redemption more than me will find much to enjoy. Ironically, I'm too grumpy for that.

Sutton owns and runs a yoga studio in Boston. The space downstairs is taken over by her new landlady Tuesday for a CrossFit gym.
Tuesday does things that annoy Sutton.
Sutton lusts after Tuesday but doesn’t like her.
Sutton goes home and eats/ cooks with her roommate Zee. (Zee has they/ them pronouns. There are also two kittens. Parsing sentences to understand who ‘they’ were took me a few goes in too many sentences. Who are you kicking out of your room to be alone with the vibrator? Them or them? Oh.. the kittens).
There is yoga. CrossFit. A lot of eating. And more eating. And an abundance of telling without much showing. The narrative structure is such that I think we spend more time seeing Sutton and Zee interact and talk about Tuesday than Sutton and Tuesday.

I liked Tuesday who is abrasive. Rude. And assertive. I found Sutton a bit needy but ok.

Overall, I didn’t find a narrative to get invested in (nothing actually happens...) and struggled to make it through this one.

Well that was surprisingly good. Really enjoyed this. Can't really think of anything negative to say about it at all. The secondaries are super well done here as well as the MC's. Non-binary Zee (Sutton's roomy) was especially well done I thought. Of course the turtles and the kitteh's too, hehe. Even had a friend of Sutton who was in a poly. So there's a surprising amount of representation here. Tuesday (the other MC) didn't really have anyone in her corner, which was a bummer but it fits her character since she was trying to rebuild things. Guess it makes sense. Anyway, enemies to more in a completely believable way. I thought they were great. But that cover... Ugh... Amiright... That's definitely an attention grabber.

Things I liked:

♡ This cover!
♡ The fact that Tuesday was super buff and owned her own Crossfit gym. I've never read a book with a female character that looked like her, much less was like her.
♡ Sutton's group of friends!
♡ The hate to love aspect of Sutton and Tuesday's relationship. I really liked how broody and mean Tuesday was and how Sutton didn't just sit down and take it.

Things I didn't like so much:

♡I feel like the relationship jumped from "I'm not sure I even like you, but I know I'm sexually attracted to you" to "omg I'm in love with you" way too fast for me and it didn't really feel believable. This book spans only a few weeks and the majority of it, they don't really get to know each other and spend it not really liking each other.
♡I feel like their relationship needed more time to be fleshed out. Tuesday in particular, felt like she had more background stuff that needed to be fleshed out but it was like the author forgot about it half way through and instead Tuesday just acted like she was fine with a relationship. I just wish we spent more time seeing them get to know each other, and us also getting to know the characters more

When I first read the blurb for Anyone but You, I was sold. Enemies to lovers, crossfit vs yoga. What’s not to love? I was all but making grabby hands for it.

Friends, I devoured this book and it was even better than I’d hoped! The chemistry is so good and Tuesday and Sutton are so cute. There are kittens! And turtles! And sexy making out! And ZERO angst, which was perfect for me because it turned around the awful week I’d been having.

“I have a problem, ” I said to myself. A Tuesday problem, every day of the week.

3.5 stars. I selfishly really wish that I'd liked this more, because then I would be able to justify buying a physical copy, and then I could get to stare at the cover in person. Whew. Look, it's a really good cover, okay?? I get gayer every time I see it. The book between the covers was also really cute, made me smile a lot, buuuut it also made me so incredibly frustrated sometimes. It was a little bit of a roller coaster.

Sutton is a yoga instructor, and the new landlord for her building is opening a gym on the floor below hers. Her landlord looks like a Greek goddess (gestures at cover) and they first meet because Tuesday is playing her music disturbingly, obnoxiously loud. And right there! The book just lost me! Is this primary school?? Are y'all 10?? It's pretty clear to the reader (but not to Sutton) that Tuesday does the music thing, and sundry other little annoying things, because she likes Sutton and wants to get to know her. The trouble is that this is THEEE least attractive thing in the world to me. It's a place of business! The kind of business that can be really affected by loud music! And you're her damn landlord! That's soooo childish! Tuesday is supposed to be the huge grump to Sutton's sunshine, and she's kind of mean to boot. Again, the reader knows, because this is a romance novel, that she's doing it because she's into Sutton. But it failed to be charming in any way. That kind of kindergarten 'I will pull this girl's pigtails because I liiiiike her' bs does not look attractive on grown-ass adults. For the first 35% or so I was really worried about the book's trajectory.

But a shift does come, and when it comes, things get very very cute. There are other reasons behind Tuesday's attitude and behaviour, and it was enough to redeem her almost entirely in my eyes. They have a fun little courtship, where Tuesday does some of Sutton's yoga classes, and Sutton does some of Tuesday's cross-fit workouts, and they settle into a great little back and forth, with banter that was actually appealing. Tuesday's personality, when we see what's behind the annoying mean layer, is kind of lovely. I enjoyed Sutton's relationship with her best friend, though for such a (relatively) short book, it might have taken up a little too much space. I wish we'd seen Tuesday and Sutton on more dates, in more places then the gym and their apartments. It also did what I really wish short books would stop trying to do:

Listened to the audiobook as read by Lori Prince, and her voices definitely did help to make the characters more loveable, and the writing more palatable. Not that the writing was bad, but there were just certain instances where I felt like it was trying too much, or the humour just didn't do anything for me. Again, I wish I'd liked this more! There's the bones of a good romance here! But several things kept the story from feeling as romantic as it could have.

Review of Anyone but you by Chelsea M. Cameron, narrated by Lori Prince

Chelsea M. Cameron is a very prolific author of mostly m/f romance but she has written some f/f stories. I've only read Marriage of Unconvenience which unfortunately didn't leave a lasting impression. I have to admit that I grabbed this audiobook because of the narrator and the cover. I'm sure if you've seen it, you cannot blame me for my judgment...

Sutton Kay is happy with her life as a yoga studio owner. Even though she hasn't got a girlfriend, she enjoys her free time with her best friend and her two kittens. But when her building is sold and her new landlord is a woman putting a gym downstairs who doesn't follow the minimal rules of courtesy, she gets really annoyed. It doesn't matter that her landlord Tuesday Grímsdóttir has an incredible body, she is rude and Sutton prefers to avoid her. Until when Sutton has the terrible idea of daring Tuesday to make it through a yoga class and Tuesday challenges her to take up CrossFit. As both women get to know each other, sparks fly... How come Sutton is so attracted to a person she doesn't like?

This book is right up my alley. Low angst, hot chemistry and a yoga teacher. I've been practicing yoga for a decade and I love that the author challenges the misconceptions about it. The counterpoint with CrossFit is smart and reflects the contrasts between the main characters. Anyone but you is an opposites-attract romance, more precisely, of the grumpy-sunshine kind. Ms. Cameron builds up their relationship, from complete antagonism to developing of real feelings really well and in a short timeline. Despite that, it feels credible and definitely enjoyable.

One positive aspect of this book is the queer representation. Sutton's best friend is non-binary and a work colleague is in a polyamory relationship. These characters' appearances are organic to the story and don't feel forced for the sake of visibility.

Lori Prince narrates the audiobook version and is perfect in her portrayal of Sutton. As the book is written in first person from Sutton's point of view, it's really funny and entertaining to be in her headspace, especially when she lusts after Tuesday. The story is also very hot and Ms. Prince delivers the sex scenes perfectly. And yes, Tuesday sounds as hot as she looks.

If you are looking for an angst-free romance with both funny and sizzling moments, then this one is for you. 4 stars.

Not bad.
I just couldn't understand Tuesday's behaviour in the first half, which made her a bit unrelatable to me.
And a romance where you can't relate to the characters is not ideal.
But it was decent nevertheless.

This was a lot better than I thought it would be. It was a pretty simple but fast-paced romance with low angst and an ice queen trope.

I loved that I can actually say there was diverse rep in this book. There was disability rep, polyam rep, genderqueer rep, and the main character was neurodiverse. There were a lot of classic tropes but they were definitely updated to reflect a healthier and more respectful perspective.

My biggest complaint is that the story ended quite abruptly. I would have loved another 50 pages to just tie up some loose ends and have a few more scenes with some of the other side characters.

This is the second book by Cameron that ended up surprising me. Her stories seem to have that cheesy rom-com feel but without explaining away some of the problematic behaviors. The writing style may not be for everyone, since the main character is neurodiverse there is a bit of chaos to her thoughts at times. I vibed with it but I can understand how others may not.

eh

the cover's definitely not my favourite and i would never read it myself because of it but it popped up on scribd so

it was okay?

nothing new and interesting i guess

didn't like any of the characters

we hate eachother? why? and then we're in love in a flip of a switch?? aight

not my cup of tea

only a bit of a backstory there that didn't really have to do anything with the whole story

so yes everything is so two dimensional

8/10 audio

i've had too much lori prince tbh

Another DNF at about 80% although I definitely skim read from like 50%.

I wanted to love this book because it's queer and hot girls that workout which are both things I love, but the zero to 100 relationship and the poor writing just finished it off for me. When there was one section where 4 sentences in a row were "Somehow she managed to" I just got very fed up.

Sad sad sad.

4*s seems generous - it was an insubstantial book - there are only really three characters, the 2 Main Players and them, Zee, the interesting flat mate. It's all inevitable but somehow I loved the flow of the book, the rhythm was right and it kept me interested. I'll look out for more of her books.

A little bit older story from the wonderful Chelsea M Cameron and an awesome story as I’ve come to expect from them! The annoyance in the beginning is palpable and realistic, annoyance and attraction. The MCs reluctantly start communicating beyond the barbs and anger and slowly realize there’s actually quite the connection between them, starting with amazing chemistry. If you like this author or want to read a new author, definitely give this a try!!

Started good, but the writing was a bit messy.
Then the characters went from not sure if they even liked each other to hopelessly in love in less then a page, something that doesn’t really do it for me

‘Set your expectations going into this’ kind of book. I enjoyed this for what it is.

This was annoyed-to-lovers type of trope. But I was kinda ~eh~ when Tuesday intentionally tried to mess with Sutton’s business just to get her attention (which is what I’m getting even though it’s not explicitly said that she did exactly that). Like, you’re the landlord, so you’d want to get continuous income. Maybe that’s adorable or something. Beats me. Like I enjoyed Tuesday wanting to get her attention, but I don’t know. It is what it is. That whole aspect of back and forth was written longer than the part where they finally get together. Anyway, I liked Tuesday’s description. We need more buff and muscly representation in sapphic literature. I get Sutton’s attraction to her. I enjoyed reading her attraction to Tuesday. It’s partly why I’m into watching women’s football. Appreciation of them in like a sports fan way and in a sapphic way. Thank you to the Olympics, too. Zee goes by they/them and is housemate of Suttons. Appreciated them, but a little confused at how very involved they are in Sutton’s love life. That’s a thing authors like to do – get their side characters to talk about the main characters’ love life way too much and nothing else. There’s a poly relationship representation in another character. So far, none of the side characters felt like they’re shoehorned in. Maybe Sutton’s apprehension about admitting liking Tuesday this quick could have been explored more. Maybe they needed to spend time exploring each other’s personalities and how they are in a relationship. Because I feel like I don’t really know them aside from snippets of their pasts. But the steamy scenes are adequate.

This was a quick low angst snack-bite read. A good fun palate cleanser to get into if you’ve read a horrible mind-numbing book before.

3 ★ | I’m really really confused right now - the prologue says “someone from tuesdays past shows up” who? who is that? no one shows up. THERES NO ANGST. Where is it????

DENIAL IS A RIVER IN EYGPT, well that’s according to Sutton over here! Hell of a lot of back and fourth throughout the entirety of the book. You know, the whole will they won’t they, do I like you, don’t I like you shindig. But then we kiss… and I still don’t know If I like you. But the kiss was great! Give me strength.

How are you gonna have sex with someone and you STILL don’t know if you like them. Huh???? Strange.

I had high hopes. With that being said it did feel slightly anti climatic. Enjoyed the snarky dialogue. Entertaining. Especially the turtles that just cracked me up for some reason.

Great for some readers. Prefer my les fics more on the angsty side but hey ho!

No one is sadder than I am that I did not like this. The writing was messy, very clunky and awkward. The characters arcs were all over the place, and the chemistry just...off, unless we're talking about the sexy moments. Those are the only times I could see any type of chemistry. The one thing I liked is the way both of them tried each other's sport and liked it.

Anyone but You by Chelsea M. Cameron, 4★

Hilarious, adorable, and so so sexy — Sutton Kay has a great life until one day someone messes up her peace by blasting loud music downstairs. Turns out her new landlord can be a bit of an asshole — but damn that asshole has some nice muscles on her — the women clash but can’t stay away from each other.

I wish there were half stars, because I would like to give this a 3.5.
I enjoyed this book, and thought the characters were fun. However, the book was from the point of view of the character that I was less interested in hearing from. I think I would have liked it more if it had shifted between the viewpoints of the two main characters instead of being all in Sutton's voice. I found Tuesday to be a more interesting character and wanted to know more about her.
Overall, a solid, decent read, but having read a lot of books this year, not a standout.

I HATED the first half of Tuesday being an asshole who disrupts Sutton's work and annoys her on purpose to "get her attention". What kindergarten "That boy pulled your hair and called you names? He likes you!" bullshit was that?
Not particularly well written, even after the characters get together it all just devolves into saccharine sweet domestic life after they go from barely tolerating each other to falling in love in the span of a week.

The best parts of this book are the cover and the effortless diversity. The plot, characters, pacing all fall flat. No, the constant references to the ~cute kitties!!!~ weren't more needed than some actual characterization.

Overally enjoyable with lovely representation, but lacking depth. Tuesday's character had potential, but there was just not enough scenes where we would be able to get to know her and her past - what we got instead were endless mentions of Sutton's cats and the food she ate. I really wanted to care about them but Zee and the rest of Sutton's friends ended up being far more interesting and likeable than the main characters. The writing style was nothing special and however I liked how the ending did not include any fights after which the relationship would have to be mended, it was rushed and not convincing.

honestly, i feel like as long as you know what you’re in for (low stakes, little plot, silly lesbian contemporary romance and nothing more) you’ll enjoy it because i did! the dialogue was sometimes a little too…quirky for me that i actually had to skip at one point on my audiobook app but other than that! i had fun! enjoyable characters and a romance that had me blushing which is all books like this need to deliver really.

also many of y’all are gonna thirst read this because of the cover and i can confirm the love interest is exactly as hot as the cover portrays.

also, petition for us to get a whole novel of ellen, i love her energy.
