What amazes me about Aoi is how he can simultaneously be the lead on the team who calls the shots and positions everyone for success, while also being a selfish dude who wants to score on his own and orchestrates the whole team for his own personal benefit. This leads Esperion to be in a position to score more and make use of everyone on their team effectively, while also leaving holes in their defence that other teams can easily capitalize on and convert into goals. Maybe if all of Esperion thought like Aoi this would work, or were on his wavelength, or had that same mindset and trust. But instead we have Aoi torn between wanting to enjoy football his own way and wanting to do what's best for the team.

Tachibana is great in this arc too. Fearful, never feeling like he deserves the respect he's given as a starting forward, but when he gets going he's an incredible player that the enemy team (his former teammates, who know how good he is and can be) are right to be scared of. Kaneda is a great opposite to Aoi and Tachibana, because he's an ass who is directly focused on scoring goals. That's it. He plays forward, he scores goals, and everything he does is in service of scoring goals. It's almost twisted that he does what Aoi most wants to do, with the confidence Tachibana wishes he had, and though he's lacking in many other aspects he's leading his team to victory here. There's a clear gap in how Esperion is playing that they need to recover and Kaneda's aggressive play is showing them exactly what they're lacking.
