Her three-year-old sister's changing behavior unleashes many long-suppressed disturbing memories from Adrienne's own days at a highly-respected local preschool.
An examination of the timely topic of child sexual abuse and its effect on one family, treated with sensitivity and insight in this gripping and suspenseful novel.
With a relentless concern about contemporary issues and problems that affect teenagers, Gloria D. Miklowitz (USA, b. 1927) examined such topics as rape, suicide, teen marriage, divorce, AIDS, sexual abuse, and racial prejudice in her novels. She helped teen readers look at underground militias, vigilantism, religious cults, steroid use among high school athletes, and the effects of nuclear war. She enabled readers to view the famous battle of Masada from both sides. She also wrote nonfiction on a variety of subjects, from earthquakes and raccoons to President Harry Truman, civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., and tennis star Tracy Austin.

I was reminded about this book through a thread in the "What's the Name of That Book???" group, and finally hunted it down! The main character, a teen, is having trouble being intimate with her boyfriend, but it isn't until she noticed her younger sister behaving strangely that she realizes that she was abused at the preschool she attended (and her younger sister is currently attending).
I read this book when I was in high school in the late 1980's. I asked my friend to recommend some books and this was one of the books she recommended. Excellent book...it was a big deal to read about this topic back then and I am glad this author wrote about this very important topic.
This book was hilarious in retrospect since SRA was the flavor of the week when it came out and it's incredibly dated and far-fetched by modern standards. I re-read a couple of years ago and it was a hoot in 2016.
I read this book as a child. I honestly should not have been reading it as a 10 year old. For some reason it has always stuck in my memory. I'll be 44 this year.
