You're never too old for love...

Dragon knight Mikhail has spent the many years of his life in the pursuit of duty. But when his latest mission sends him to a sleepy California beach town, he's shocked to come across a murder in progress. And even more shocked to realize (after plummeting from the sky to save the day) that it's four older women in a writing group acting out a scene from a murder mystery.

But that's nothing to how he feels when the "murder victim" looks into his eyes... and he knows that the beautiful gray-haired woman is his mate.

Bird Worcester used to write children's books, before a bitter divorce separated her from her beloved son and daughter. Twenty-seven years later, she's still picking up the pieces. But when a handsome, silver-haired stranger literally drops into her life, she finds that her heart just might still be alive after all.

But years of lonely solitude and their very different lives aren't their only obstacles. There's also the little matter of Mikhail's dangerous mission...

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I received a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I buy most of Zoe Chant’s books because I love her HEAs and her style of writing! I haven’t gotten this one yet, but I will!

The cover is awesome! Love the Silver Dragon!

This currently is a standalone. Bird and her friends are funny and awesome together. I love how Mikhail crashes their pretend murder to save Bird. It was a sweet story with some excitement, danger, and karma. I enjoyed the story, and Zoe always has a way in her books where I’m just happy reading them. It is what I love about her books. She makes each one uniquely awesome, and I haven’t read one yet that I haven’t loved. I can’t wait to read more!

I highly recommend this book and any of Zoe Chant’s shifter books because they are all amazing!

Silver years, silver eyes
I love books like this, they give me hope for second chances. Like all of the author’s books, I was immediately drawn into this story and did not want to leave until the end. I felt emotionally connected to the characters and was cheering for the HEA. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

A wonderful tale of love and self discovery, as two older middle aged people who should have nothing in common, somehow are perfect for each other. The story flows at an enjoyable and natural pace, has some action, mystery, suspense, magic, mystical beings. Must read.
My free opinion. Thanks.

A great start to a series designed to capture the imagination of the young at heart if not in age!

I have always loved the imaginations and creativity of Zoe Chase, especially when it comes to exciting worlds of mythical shifters. I enjoyed sea dragons, phoenixes and hellhounds fighting fires both wild and in cities. Through Zoe Chant's incredible talent, I have virtually visited a tropical resort where shifters can relax and recover safely away from those who plot to exploit them. However, Silver Dragon, book 1 of her Silver Shifters series, may be the best example of Zoe Chant's wonderful imagination I have read so far. Not only does Silver Dragon introduce new types of shifters both mythical and usual, Zoe explores the idea that love has no age limits. This story is in my humble opinion her most magical story yet, as it involves a group of four human friends, members of a small town writers group, who find their soul-mates in some fantastical creatures ever encountered. The fact that these women are long pass their sell-by date, and are in society's eyes, too old for love, destiny has still seen fit to bring them each a fated mate! What a fantastic storyline, a magical fairytale for adults to enjoy. And Zoe Chant weaves this tale like the Master storyteller she is.

I really related to her main female character Bird. Bird seems to be a woman who lives with her head in the clouds, a little scatter brained and lost. But she is really trying to find the pieces of herself stolen in a marriage to a narcissistic manipulative ex-husband. Her character develops over time much like a butterfly emerging from a cocoon. The way Zoe Chant illustrates this demonstrates her talent as a master romance writer. Her skillful character development draws me to her work like a moth to light! Zoe's characters are funny, quirky and very real. And Bird is no exception!

Bird's friends, members of the Baker Street Writers group are as quirky and fun as she is! A group of women, all women of a "certain age", the oldest an active 82 years young, would give some red hat ladies I have met a run for their money, when it comes to outrageous shenanigans around town. A perfect example is the way they gather around town to film the opening of their leader Godiva's books- always a murder. The zany antics of these four women had me in stitches throughout the book. I can hardly wait to read more about them in future books.

The Silver Dragon, Mikail is no slouch either. A mythical Dragon shifter,a knight on mission for the Empress, he was impressive in his old world courtship of Bird. Their romance wrought with misunderstandings and obstacles, was the best part of the story. Tender, sweet and at times hopeless longing, had me glued to this book from beginning to end.

Silver Dragon included an intense battle of good versus evil in a quest to discover a long hidden oracle stone. This action packed back story was a perfect balance to Bird and Mikhail's love story.

I am looking forward to reading every one of the books in this series. As all four books are available through my Kindle Unlimited subscription, I don't have to wait to get the next in the series! I recommend you try this book, especially if you are a romance reader looking for something a little different from the usual paranormal romance series out there. Silver Dragon will have you believing in magical creatures and love at any age !

SILVER DRAGON has all the earmarks of the beginning story in a series, we even know that one of the most charming secondary characters ever, Joey the nine-tailed fox will have his story told in SILVER FOX in the near future — so like many stories from Zoe Chant what first appears as a single title may one day have an official series title… I certainly hope so for this one is fascinating in so many beautiful ways.

I loved Bird’s friends, a group of women writers in their, what is considered by many, older years often meet to help stage and photograph the eldest’s (at a spry 82) covers for her mystery novels. On this day they are on the beach about to commit murder most foul when surprisingly a man steps in to save the “murder victim”. Quickly realizing his mistake, Mikhail must come up with some fast talking explanations as to how he simply seemed to appear on this deserted beach to come to an imaginary rescue. And although he certainly cannot simply say he was in his dragon from flying overhead when he saw a crime he does come up with a sidestepping reason… all the while fully aware that the victim he saved is his mate. A mate that at his advanced years, even for a Dragon Knight, he never thought he’d ever experience the joy and privilege of finding.

Bird is a wonderful character, and I fell for her from the very start. She is a victim of a manipulative, entitled piece of garbage who isn’t worthy of cleaning dog crap off of her shoes… yet this human monster has stripped Bird of everything that is of emotional value, and some physical value, in her life. He’s ruined and stolen her career as a children’s books author and illustrator, he’s broken her spirit having her believe she is worthless, and in the divorce proceedings he managed to get control of their children and systematically worked his evil until she was separated from them for 27 years, only recently being reunited by her children’s efforts. Bartholomew is a piece of excrement and I actually did a fist-pump when Bird finally was strong enough through Mikhail’s love and support to put her ex firmly in his place.

I’m going to rein myself in because my thoughts on SILVER DRAGON and the amazing characters within could go on for quite a while. There are certainly mystical evil bad guys to fight, and the groundwork for the continuation of a series is firmly in place… but this time it was the love between two older, perhaps world-weary characters that captured my heart and my attention. There is no magical age when love no longer exists, whether that means emotional or physical… love happens when it’s supposed to and to put a time limit on that is simply cruel I have always thought. Mikhail and Bird prove that love can come along at any age, and it’s just as wonderful – if not more appreciated for having to wait so long.

No matter your own age, pick up SILVER DRAGON to discover a love story that will warm your heart, bring you tears of sadness and happiness, make you smile and laugh out loud, cheer a bit, enjoy some steamy moments and simply fall in love. I had a blast and would recommend this one for any Romance reader. Now I need Joey’s story that handsome SILVER FOX.

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

I read this after reading Silver Unicorn, which is book #3 in the series. I think it was fine reading them out of order. I got the books when both were free for Black Friday 2022.

This book was better than Silver Unicorn. In both books, the FMC had an unresolved issue in her past. But Bird's issue was easier for me to identify with and understand than Jen's issue. I think that's because Jen chose the life she had with her husband, and she was not unhappy in it, even if she didn't have the chance to explore what she wanted to explore. But Bird's ex-husband was a true POS. She ascribes his attitude to his mother, but his actions in gaslighting her, criticising her, and keeping her away from their children were all his own decision. So I felt she was too forgiving of him. She didn't even get angry with him.

Anyway, I also liked that Mikhail recognised her as his mate immediately and was filled with joy. He'd given up hope of ever meeting a mate. The moment he meets Bird, she is his first priority, coming even before his mission for the celestial empress. It was also really sweet that he was so careful of Bird and wanted to be sure that he was doing the right thing, not scaring her off.

I liked how Bird grew in confidence as she interacted with Mikhail, and was a true partner to him, working with him on his mission and helping him. To his credit, Mikhail never tried to keep secrets from her "for her own good". He answered all her questions. His gentleness and praise helped to erase the scars left by her ex-husband's hurtful words.

Her ex-husband caving to their children's demands really didn't fit the image of him that the author had drawn, and I thought that the characterisation failed in that aspect. Throughout the story, the impression I got is that he never thought at all about what his children wanted or needed, only what he thought they should want or need. He had this self-important "I know better than you" thing going on. So it's not feasible that he would change his mind about releasing the children's trust fund money. I felt that the author did this to ensure a happy ending (in the sense that everything ends well, not just the couple having their HEA), but it felt forced and contrived.

Also, I really wanted the ex to make restitution to Bird for what he'd taken from her, or to have him shown up publicly in some way. I was disappointed that he didn't get his comeuppance. And also disappointed that Mikhail didn't wreak vengeance on her behalf. We never know whether Mikhail did take up Joey's offer of a Visiting Chair Professorship at the same university where Bird's ex works. I would really have liked to see him accept the professorship and then squash her ex beneath his well-shod heel. So, despite the HEA, it wasn't a fully satisfying ending.

This is a good dragon shifter romance, with a likable couple. I liked many of the supporting characters, too, and hope we'll get books for them later. My favorite part of this story, though, was that both Mikhail and Bird were older, and thought they had lost their chance at love. But they were wrong, because they were perfect for each other. This is not a long book, but it still had enough character development. If you are looking for a quick dragon shifter read, and like romances with older couples, this is an excellent choice.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, or I didn't like the characters.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some problems with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Apt title

Was a nice change to read a book of older couple. Mikhail and Bird were interesting characters. I loved their friends and am glad Fox is getting his mate story.
I am undecided if I liked the formal and almost old fashioned framing of the story. I am a mature woman and first read
harlequins but am thrilled modern romantic fiction. I had to keep reminding myself this story is about a California woman, with birth in the late 60’s or 70’s not 30’s. Other misstep is her neighbors “gardener” no way someone from WW2 interment camp would be like he was, deaf or not. Especially if he had family alive. Not to mention timeline issue. He would have been born in the 1930’s if a teen when escaped. So age 80-90. Not possible. Was not needed in story. Should have Bird doing gardening and housekeeping, art help for pay instead.

But with all that I liked the premise, loved their person family backstory. Will be reading others in series.

Mikhail is a dragon knight on a mission from the empress that takes him to a sleepy California town where he comes across a murder in progress. As he goes to prevent the murder he realizes that it's four women acting out a scene then he's shocked to find his mate when he look into the eyes of the victim. Mikhail has spent many years doing his duty and never thought he'd find a mate. Bird Worcester has been divorced 27 years from a man who took her children from her and made her life miserable. She's still picking up the pieces and is thrilled that her children are now back in her life but wasn't expecting love at this point in her life.

"Silver Dragon" is well-written with great characters that show us it's never too late for love and romance. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next one in this new series. I highly recommend it.

I sure do love dragon shifter stories and this one was a delightful quick read:) It's not often I read a romance where the couple are mature adults and I wasn't sure if I'd enjoy it but I did!!

Mikhail is a silver dragon shifter knight with long silver hair that he ties at the back and the muscled body of a much younger man....oh yes, a very sexy mature man!! He's on a mission and little did he expect to find his mate at the same time.

Bird is in her 50's, divorced 27 years and has just recently been reunited with her two grown children. Her life is quite boring but at least she has a wonderful group of friends who will do anything for each other. When she meets Mikhail, no longer will her life be boring:)

Together they fight the evil that is taking place in the caves near her place and the bond between them will forever remain unbroken.

Finding the love of your life is great at any age

I enjoy reading books by Zoe and this book was a fun read. I just love the humor and the adventure and the romance. I love the type of dragon that the silver dragon is because of his long whiskers. The fact that the couple is older adds different elements to the romance and adventure. Her ex was a real piece of work. She deserved to find a man who treated her the way a woman or even a human being deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. If you like a bit of humor, romance, adventure and shifters, you will enjoy the silver dragon. Zoe has written another winner in my opinion. I hope I can find a silver dragon or a nine tail fox!!

Who knows what the future will bring?
Mikhail is on a mission but along the way, he finds his mate. Bird hasn't seen her kids in over 27 years but that has changed. A couple of months ago her prayers have been answered she is getting to know her children again. Yes, years have gone by without them but she has them now. And that is what matters.
I love second chance love. Bird is sweet, even with what her ex-husband did to her. She was still willing to take a leap with Mikhail.
It dosn't say if this is the start of a new series. But I think I would like to read a book about Joey, a friend of Mikhail.

Great story

Being over 50 myself I can't imagine finding my forever love now. But I was lucky enough to get my 2nd chance in my late 20's. My first husband wasn't as bad as hers, thank the Gods! We were just better suited to not live together. And raise our kids as friends. This was a fun book to read though and I recommend it. I'm A big fan of audio books so I hope this series is done soon. The author did a good job of bringing you into the circle of friends in this book and making the reader care about the core characters. If a fun quick read is what your looking for and you don't mind older main characters, then I think you will enjoy this book.

Love this! Silver Dragon strays from the well worn path in a couple of ways. First, our hero and heroine are older, with grown children. Second, our hero's dragon is, as suggested by the cover, an Asian dragon as opposed to the Europien type dragon that is more often used. The storyline and characters are well developed and kept me guessing till the end and references to supernaturals that are new to me had me looking them up for more info . A must read that has me looking forward to the next in the series. Enjoy!

A different type of dragons...

As well as some other mythical beings that are new to me. How cool is that? I liked that both of the main characters are older. That is starting to happen more than ever before. Bird and Mikhail are such original characters, and so nice, too! I loved meeting them and their friends. I can't wait to see what Joey's story brings us! This is a fast paced story with a hopeful tone, a character oriented storyline with some action and slightly steamy scenes and vivid characters. I hope this storyline goes on for a good long time.

I could not put this book down once I started reading. Dragon knight Mikhail meets human Bird Worcester when he thinks he is stopping a murder from happening. Mikhail knows she is his mate, reading how these two come together had me smiling you are never to old for love to happen. Bird has gone through so much and to get their happy ending she will have to go through more. I am glad her son got his happy ending also.

Finally!! A heroine who's truly mature

I love shifter romance. Even more exciting is when romance finds you when you thought you were just going to "exist" to the end. I identified so much with Bird. It's a joy to have a story where after abuse and heartache, you tumble into a new life. Thank you for the story. Thank you for Kindle Unlimited, so I could read the story. Silver Fox, here I come.

Maybe being over 50...

These shifter books are like comfort food. So good, so rich stirring up good feelings ( all over), I kept thinking how cool would it be to write some about shifters over 50? Or if finding one’s mate was just for the young folks riding motorcycles, rock climbing and fighting to protect, having babies ... then i stumbled into this series. Oh my.. age appropriate for ME! And mating gets rid of arthritis? Bring it!

Well done.

Zoe comes up with some many interesting storyline and characters. I was especially pleased with characters in this book. Lots of room to explore each character in further stories, too.. And this time, finally, the character was pleasantly middle aged with a body to match. I have gotten thoroughly tired of every female main character being more than a little overweight. And no steamy sex scenes to skip over. Well done.

“Humina Huminas”

Silver Dragon is an amazing, touching shifter love story. I could not put it down. Mikhail is an older, sensitive, patient warrior. Bird is a sweet older human woman who has always believed in magic. Their adventure is a special treat to read. Love that the hero and heroine are post fifties and there was not one giggling nubile blonde anywhere - Thank you Zoe Chant!!!!!

Dragons, foxes, love

This is a wonderful book about a woman named Bird and the love she found with a shifter dragon named Mikhail. Love at first sight is often thought of as a myth. But we all wish we could find love no matter what age we are. Bird thought she was perfectly satisfied with her life until her eyes met those of a stranger. Finding love at her age, over 50, was a miracle. Getting to live with the amazing dragon Mikhail was her dream come true.
