It may be unfair to take this book down because of how much I liked the previous one, but after book 8 in the series, book 9 was just a let down. Even then, it was somewhat difficult to rate. It has some positive points -- lots of characters development. It is a lot more character driven than any other volume. Sadly, one of the primary characters is Shizuku and I really don't care. It wasn't awful, but just not all that interesting to me. The Frost Cavern Labyrinth hasn't been the most (or least) interesting place... but then as I got closer to the end I realized it was going to be a two-part story. And for some reason this really annoyed me. Maybe because there was so much focus on a character I just don't feel connected to in this one I don't want another book with the same. And then lastly -- with what happened in volume 8 being brought up about every third paragraph. Oh my hell, Shirakome, did you think we forgot? I can see mentioning it because the flirting and innuendo is part of Arifureta, but even for you this was a bit much!
Verdict: If you're a fan, you should read it. You're mileage may vary.
The forst Caverns Saga book of Arifumeta combine splendidly character development and labyrinth exploration with a great theme. Exploring the feelings, weaknesses and mental conflicts of characters is not easy, but the author did a wonderful job. The action scenes are superb with fight scenes narrated in a wonderful way. The trials and inner turmoils of the characters are combined nicely in yhe narrative with humorous touchs that doesn't break or detract from the narrative. A great book and entertain reading that won't dissapoint fans of this serie.
A great continuation, though it feels short when you read the whole thing in one day! That said, there are a few translation errors, like Dragon instead of Dagon when describing Myu and a few sentences that don't flow too well at the start of the book (Chapter 1). But that's not an author error, so I'll let it slide. Can we have part 2 now, please?
This part was much better then the last one and I finished it quite quickly. The fight scenes were quite fun to read. Although quite fun I still have my usual criticisms of it being to reluctant to follow up on the premise that failures of individual characters also have fatal consequences for said characters or the party as a hole. This absolutely kills any possible tension build up. 2.5/5
Not a bad entry in this series! The classmate party members are finally kinda useful (or at least they try for real this time), and the dungeon is all about character development, which makes the story less action driven, but gets a good dive in our characters, especially the cover girl Shizuku. It's also a two parter, so I guess I'm on to the next book~
Wow this was great and not to surprised by the ending since I have seen the anime up to this point and everyone knows books are more detailed. Enjoyed the girls at the end.
J'ai bien aimé ce volume car, l'on voyait bien les conflits internes des personnages et que l'auteur des décrivaient très bien en détails et cela a renforcé l'influence du récit.
Spring has finally come. Literally and figuratively. It is beginning on spring when I write this review and it has came for someone in the story well sorta of. I notice with Labyrinth slot people are facing Jealousy and last one was lust so I wonder if we break down the others if they have something responding to the seven deadly sins. Might look into that later probably not. Either way great addition and can't wait to start the next.
Arifureta is still the same, but personally i find this labyrinth not especially interesting compared to others. This volume is focused on Shizuku, so if you are fan of her it's great. There is also some development of other characters, but at the same time whole adventure aside Shizuku is unexciting.
I'm not huge fan of harem either so additions to that are hardly plus for me, even if they're finely executed.
Featuring one of my favourite girls of the series, this volume easily earns a 5-star for me purely on personal bias :P
Arifureta's greatest strengths for me is the dedication of the author to character development and it's why I am so in love with this series, even if it has a lot of rough spots. This volume really showcases the author's talents with creating really lovely characters, although one can easily summarize this volume as the protagonist adding another girl to his harem. The big difference here is the execution and the way that Shirakome-sensei weaves the dungeon-crawling parts with the blossoming of Shizuku's love to Hajime is one of the parts that makes Arifureta a great read, amongst its peers.
The author also successfully juggles the cast's screentime, writing in a way that really makes you easily imagine all of them together tackling the challenges they face. The action writing is yet another great showcase of his strengths as they are a mix of unpredictable, funny and cool at the same time.
I pretty much blew through this book in 2 sittings under 4 hours, so I'd guess my only problem with this series is how fast I finish each new volume, *sigh*. That said, props to the publisher J-Novel Club for finally catching up with the original Japanese releases. Hopefully when the latest book comes out over there, there won't be too long a wait to see the conclusion to this volume's arc.
