I do quite like how things shake out in this arc. One the one hand you have Kanki, who freely uses innocent lives as pawns (for torture and the like) and has his followers be a bunch of gangs only associating because they get to do whatever they want. Torture, rape, robbery, you can selfishly do whatever you want in the name of victory. And even Bihei is stuck in the middle and being persuaded to be a bit more selfish... after all, isn't Shin some extraordinary dude you cannot keep up with? Isn't it better to do whatever YOU want instead of throwing your life away trying to match Shin's fervor?

Of course Shin is idealistic. His whole goal is to be the sort of great general that he and Hyou imagined as kids. Not exactly a warmonger, not someone who abuses his power on innocents, but a sort of noble hero of battle. This is what people see in him, what people like Bihei cling to, his lofty ideals and goals. And then we have the enemy, Kinsui, who is more or less the same type. He cares for his people (the townsfolk and his soldiers) and wants to protect them no matter what. He has suffered great loss and wants to protect what he has responsibility for. He is motivated by this duty and love, just like Shin! But just unlike Kanki, who is full of hate and does whatever he deems necessary to win. Kanki is successful, too! He's good at his job! But it makes you want to hate him for how he does it, and that's a great comparison to Shin (and Kinsui).

Oh and we get more of Ei Sei talking about his goals for conquering all of China, which is setting the stage for some interesting development as the series marches on.

Saitaku is amazing. He made his greatest accomplishments before his passing: Hearing Sei's dream of a peaceful nation governed not by man but law. And bringing King of Qi to a sit down meeting with Sei.

I appreciate the serious talk in Kingdom. This arc was incredibly fun, and what an ending! The next arc is coming
