This was only okay. As the first book in a series, spin off or not, it didn't have enough world building. It was very easy to realize that I was missing information that came from previous books, especially with all the side characters mentioned. And it actually annoyed me that the main characters had seen each other for the first time in years in another book (I'm assuming) and we didn't get to see that play out in their own story.
And overall the entire book felt a little boring. For a supposedly badass assassin heroine and tough security expert hero there really wasn't anything exciting going on with them. Evelyn's whole reason for disappearing was very boring as well. The blurb made it seem like she had gone through something super tragic, and while what she witnessed was tragic, it just didn't pack a punch and I didn't see how that would lead to her being an assassin.
Alex: An Eidolon Black Ops Novel by Maddie Wade is an amazing start to this new series. I love that Maddie’s characters cross over in each series and I have fallen in love with each and every character in all of them. I love the alpha males but I also love the equally tough and alpha women who like their male counterparts will stop at nothing to protect those they love and consider family. Maddie is one of my favourite authors and she is an accomplished writer that writes stories that are enthralling, engaging and compelling and leave you wanting more. Her characters make you fall in love with them and make you feel like you are part of their lives and their families. This story is full of action and danger, drama and secrets that will have you on the edge of your seat and oh so sexy scenes that will see you needing a cigarette. Maddie is a master of weaving intrigue and bringing it all together to bring us something truly masterful. I look forward to reading more of Maddie’s work and what she brings us next.
This book is definitely not a stand-alone it’s a part of a series, of security people and assassins who find Romance. The scenes are steamy although it does refer a lot to other relationships that have already happened, the characters are interesting and there’s plenty of depth to them and plenty of angst in this book. If you’re looking for a book boyfriend, a hot Cuban named Alex might be for you. The main characters have a dicey past full of childhood love and pain. And a firm belief that their soulmates. This is a romance for romance readers. I absolutely recommend that you give this book a look.
Her secret (why she dissapeared) was so lame.... From the blurb i got the feeling, that she was sex traffic victim and somehow escaped and become this assasin.. and had all the missplaced guilt and shame from that rape trauma, that's why she stayed away 15 years .. but nothing that exciting :(

Alex is the start of a new spin-off series but with all the heart, sexiness, and suspense we have come to love and expect from the Fortis Security series.
Having met Alex and the other Eidolon boys in the Fortis Security books and knowing something of his past, I was looking forward to reading his story and seeing find his happy ending. Alex is an amazing guy. He's an all round nice guy along with being totally tough and skilled at what he does. As I got to know him, I could see why his Evelyn still loved him after all the time apart. Who wouldn't love a sweetie like him? He's kind, tender, passionate, and loyal. All qualities in a man you want to bring him to meet your momma. Let's not mention the fact that he also knows about twenty or more ways to kill a man, okay?
Evelyn started off a little prickly but it's perfectly understandable considering she's running for her life and battling against her feelings for Alex. She has secrets and a past that made her into the woman she is today. Strong, competent, deadly, but underneath it all she is still the sweet girl Alex fell in love with all those years ago. It was good to see Evelyn let down her shields and open herself up to Alex and their love.
This is a great start to a new series. The cameo from the Fortis team was a great addition to the story. It's a familiar moment in the story that I enjoyed. I'm looking forward to other books in this series.
This is the first book of Maddies new series. Leading on from the Fortis boys we get further introduced to the secret mission world of Jack and friends who have been popping up in Hereford from time to time. Alex is a man on a mission once he realises the love of his life Evelyn is in fact still alive.....and just as deadly as he is. If there’s one thing (and there’s not just 1) that Maddie does so well it’s write a action scene and this book has them in spades, which I love! The finding of love lost weaves through seamlessly along the storyline of trying to clear Evelyn’s name. I don’t do spoilers so that’s all your going to get ;) Will I read the next book, Blake’s? Yep! Will I end up loving these boys as much as the Fortis boys and girls? Yep! Do I need to start a Jack fan club? Possibly! I love the mix of intrigue, secret missions, sexy men and sassy women that Maddie creates. Where’s the story going now I’m not sure but I can’t wait to find out. There’s a twist coming which I think I might have to get Maddie drunk on tequila to get out of her...no I’ll wait for the series. Do I recommend? Of course I do, will bells on and if you haven’t read Maddies books before? Do it!
I happily and greedily accepted the chance to read this book in advance....but if I hadn’t liked it....she’d know! ;)
Alex: An Eidolon Black Ops Novel By Maddie Wade 5 stars
Every time I pick up a book by this author I know I am in for a brilliant, action packed read and as I expected Alex was no exception. I always find that I am completely captivated by what I am reading, her storylines are exciting and I get sucked into the characters’ lives easily. There was action from the very beginning of this story and straight away I knew I was going to love the characters, Alex and Evelyn. Evelyn (Siren) was a fantastic character to read about, full of sass and independence everything I love in a leading female character and I’m pretty sure I fell in love with Alex straight away! He was very loyal to his ‘brothers’ and his job but also as soon as he came face to face with Siren he knew what he had to do! Their story really was a pleasure to read about and I loved seeing characters from the previous series appear too! Another fantastic 5 star read from Ms Wade – I am looking forward to her next book already!
Alex is the first book in a marvelous new series, Eidolon Black Ops by Maddie Wade. The story begins with an elimination order issued by the British Monarchy for Evelyn Garcia due to a presumed thievery. Evelyn was a member of Zenobi, an all-female elite group of assassins and Alex Martinez’s lost love. Eidolon, as the British Government’s and Monarchy’s preferred Black Ops group, were assigned the mission to eliminate Evelyn. However Jack, Eidolon’s leader, sent Alex his second in command with a team to protect her, and to initiate an investigation to uncover by whom and why Evelyn was being framed as well as who was leaking Eidolon’s intel to the enemy. Evelyn and Alex embark in a second chance, romantic, action-packed adventure that takes them and their team from the French mountains to Monaco’s open sea, from the love of culinary delights and painting to hunting down villains, and from trust to painful betrayal. Alex is a book that entertained me and hooked me onto the next book in the series (hopefully coming soon). Good job Mrs. Wade
I absolutely loved this book! It's the first book in a new series and it's awesome! Alex and Evelyn are amazing! Alex thought he lost his love. When they tell him she had a bounty on her head. He had to find a way to keep her safe. They find out that true love really never dies! It's a action packed on your edge of your seat. I couldn't put it down! I highly recommend this book and new series! Great job Maddie Wade!!
Alex (Eidolon Black Ops ~ Book 1) is the first book in the anthology An Eidolon Box Set that I borrowed from the Kindle Unlimited Program.
As second in command of Eidolon, Alex Martinez, takes an assignment to clear the name of the woman he proposed to when he was eighteen and protect her from the death threat on her life. The two reconnect in this action packed adventure full of danger from many angles.
I loved the sweetness of this Alpha Couple and the ending was perfect too with just a bit of mystery still to solve. I would highly recommend to fans of action packed adventure full of danger and some violence.
Wow i love this story Alex and Evelyn are my favorite couple thank you Maddie for writing a story about a latino couple. Love that alex has for Evelyn any what their had to go thought to be together was sad and sweet.
Alex is the first book in an exciting new romantic military suspense series from beloved british author Maddie Wade. Our journey begins with our hero, Alex, discovering his supposedly dead first love, Evelyn, is very much alive and working as the sultry, spitfire assassin known as Siren for Zenobi, an elite assassins team with close ties to his own black ops team, Eidolon. For 15 years, he thought she was dead and she’s been just out of his reach all this time, but no more.
We soon discover that a hit has been placed on Evelyn by the royal palace after false accusations of her stealing stolen information surface. Alex & his team from Eidolon are assigned to take out Siren, but decide they must protect her at all cost while trying to discover the real thief and retrieve the stolen information before it’s too late. Alex cannot wrap his head around the fact that his sweet, innocent Evelyn has become Siren - an assassin that uses her looks to lure bad men to their doom with a smile on her face. As Alex and Evelyn are forced to spend time alone together in his safe house, he begins to see the real woman, his Evelyn, is still there and their passionate sparks of love begin to ignite once again. Despite their passion in the bedroom, this couple often has emotional heartbreak over what could have been and many areas from their past that they must work through together in order to give their new, delicate relationship a chance to succeed. Alex becomes determined to conquer the past and claim his true love again & never let her go.
There are dangerous forces at play, both known & unknown. Shocking revelations come to light and a possible snake is in the team’s midst causing Alex to be suspicious & wary of his own teammates who are as close to him as brothers, if not more so. As the danger mounts and Evelyn’s safety becomes mission critical, multiple outsider teams & disagreeing individuals will have to put aside their pride and differences in order to find Evelyn alive.
If you enjoy romantic military suspense novels that include sexy British-speaking alpha males and just enough heat & dirty talk in the bedroom then consider Alex your next book boyfriend.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters are well developed and they have a well thought out back story which is built upon throughout the book. This book has multiple twists and will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end.
I had to force myself to finish this book. I have no idea how this book has 4.6 stars. Assuming she didn't magically become a better author between this book and the next, as this wasn't her first book, I absolutely cannot understand the next getting 4.8 stars in any other way than only the people who loved this book went forward with reading it. Perhaps, this author will appeal more to a British audience than an American one.
The whole bit about Alex and Evelyn having been apart for 15 years was a stretch. That is, the reasoning behind it. I have to think Evelyn would have been smarter than to not investigate to see if it would have been safe to go back to him. Or to have made it safe or have trusted Alex to make it safe.
The only part of this book I really liked was the twist. I didn't see it coming but I don't think hints were dropped. I was also frustrated we don't find out whole the traitor was. That was the only other thing that was interesting.
Ms. Wade's writing is so dry. Almost everything is written in the format of "Evelyn did this." Subject, verb, object, repeat. Sentence structures weren't varied. There were so many grammatical errors. The editor needs to be fired or needs a serious refresher course on the English language. I guess it is ridiculous, but I always expect British authors to have better grammar than American ones. I forget that not everyone in the UK doesn't speak the Queen's English. There were so many missing commas. Pronouns were used incorrectly. Words were made plural by adding 's. There were random other editing issues, such an extra quote marks in random places. The grammar wasn't bad enough to stop me from reading it.
What will stop me from ever reading this author again is the dryness of the writing. I didn't care at all about the characters. I liked them but the author never really created a buy in for me. I think that was due to the matter of factness of her writing style. She comes across as someone who has good plot ideas but doesn't have the spark that makes her a good story teller.
The main characters have sex quite a number of times but the scenes are all short or face to black. It is certainly not something you would read for steam.
Obviously, I do not recommend this book or author.
Alex: An Eidolon Black Ops Novel by Maddie Wade 5 stars
This was a great read right from the beginning. Maddie Wade is quickly becoming a must read author for me no matter what she puts out. This is the first book in a new series Eidolon Black Ops.
This is Alex and Evelyn's story. These two were childhood sweethearts that were engaged to be married. When Evelyn went missing and thought to be dead, things changed for Alex.
We jump ahead 15 years, when there is an order made by the Monarchy for the elimination of Siren (Evelyn), the Black Ops are given the assignment. Siren was a member of an all women group of assassins. The leader of the Eidolon Black Ops ends up sending Alex in to protect Siren and get to the bottom of who is framing her. Now that she is back in his life Alex is determined to keep her safe.
Now that they are reunited will they get back what they had before? Can he keep her safe? Will they solve the mystery behind everything?
There is so much more to this great read. There’s action, romance, twists, turns and so much more. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was coming next. All of the secondary characters added a great element to the story. Maddie does a great job of pulling you right in with her writing, I look forward to reading more from her and this series.
If you love your romance with a hint of action and adventure then this series will be just for you. This is a second chance romance between Alex and Evelyn and let me tell you it wasn't what I expected after the prologue, the story takes a shocking turn.Alex and Evelyn were best friends since they were children a friendship that turned into love, but something happens that has Evelyn disappearing for 15 years. This is were the story is unexpected because the actions of Evelyn has both Alex and her taking very different paths than what they had wanted in the beginning. They both are now involved in a dark world of danger, intrigued and ,violence and they are the good guys who help people. I am not usually one for listening to action packed romance,I get confused easily with all that happens but I was able to follow this story with no trouble at all.I was quite captivated and the narrator Hugh Bradley was Excellent portraying both male and female roles and changing accents easily. He is a brilliant talent and I enjoyed his voice very much. Maddie Wades storytelling is Amazing what an incredible imagination she has.I Loved her writing. This is a great listen if you love both Romance, suspense and lots of twists and turns then this is well worth a credit for your listening pleasure.Bring on book 2. Fantastic !
Alex: An Eidolon Black Ops Novel By: Maddie Wade 5 out of 5 stars
The story Alex: An Eidolon Black Ops Novel by Maddie Wade is a romantic suspense book. This is an awesome story to read. It had me turning pages and on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. It has action, danger, and romance. I loved reading about the characters of Alex Martinez and Evelyn Garcia. They had been best friends, soul mates. Even though she disappeared he never forgot about her. She has become the assassin Siren. When he comes face to face with her again, he doesn’t want anything to do with her. What will happen when Alex gets a contract to kill Siren? Read this book to find out. Siren is a woman who is strong, independent, and lethal. Alex is a man who loves his job and has those he calls his brothers and friends. Will Alex save Siren or follow orders? The story is fast-paced. Once I started, I didn’t want to put it down until I had read the final page. I got lost in the storyline and in the interactions between the characters. The story is written in such a way that I felt like I was right there with Alex and Siren experiencing what they did. Don’t miss out on a thrilling read that will have you hooked from the beginning. Highly recommended.
Alex is the first book in Maddie Wade’s Eidolon Black Ops series that is a spinoff of her Fortus Security Series. We met Eidolon guys in the Fortus Series books and I was really excited when the writer decided to do a spinoff and give us Eidolon boys and their stories!!! I have read every single one of Fortus Security books and I know it will be the same with Eidolon Black Ops series as I absolutely love the universe Maddie Wade has created! With every book we get deeper into it and get more hooked on it! Alex Martinez is the right had man of the Eidolon Black Ops leader Jack and he lost his heart when he was eighteen … well he handed his heart to Evelyn Garcia when he was eight and she was six years old and he lost her when he was eighteen … she simply disappeared one night and now it has been fifteen years he has had no idea what happened to her … Well, their paths cross and Evelyn is no longer the tender-hearted artist she was, she is a cold blooded killer/assassin … they are thrown together as a kill order is taken out on Evelyn and there is no well in hell that Alex will let it happen so we are taken on one heck of a ride and you will be keeping your fingers crossed throughout the whole book hoping that they will win the race against the time!
This is a story that doesn’t cater to fluff! The story moves along at a wonderful pace. The author picks the characters and progresses them along with a few stops here and there. I have no time to get bored because of the action that these stories are known for is also in this book.
We meet some new characters as well as reconnect with some older ones from previous series. So it is a nice blend. I don’t spend too much time trying to figure out who goes where and what they do. But yet I do get to meet new faces. I was glad to see Roz and Kanan in here....they have been my favorite couple in the Fortis series. All the secondary characters held their place and didn’t overshadow the two main.
I really loved the story of Alex and Evelyn! It’s a mix of second chance and long lost love. They are so cute as youngsters but even sweeter as they meet again. Besides they are both deadly now....what can go wrong? This is a great beginning to this spin off and I eagerly look forward to reading more.
Finally a chance for Alex and Siren to talk and sort things out between them after years of heartbreak for something beyond their control. I loved this story, its full of pain and love, action and threats. We meet different enemies, and they are not nice people, possible threat from close to home just adds to the suspense and build up to the climax of this plot. This is Eidolon but as with Fortis we get our other favourites coming to help out either in person or over the phone, these groups of friends and extended family work so well together to solve and save, in these gripping stories, I honestly do not want to put down. Nothing better than getting comfortable with a nice hot chocolate and just sinking into the words for as long as I can keep life and interruptions away, sometimes id like that to last a very long time or at least the length of a series. Well written with a fast pace and lots of excitement throughout, plus this overwhelming love that these two have for each other that has spanned years and distance and survived intact.
YES! So much YES with this new series from Maddie Wade. The Eidolon Black Ops novels are a spin-off from the Fortis Security Series and I couldn’t be more excited to see what else we will get in the novels to come. I adored The Fortis Security series and remembered Alex fondly. I would say that you could pick this up prior to reading the Fortis Security series, but I truly think that you will absolutely adore it and understand the cast of characters so much better if you read through those first.
This one we see Alex again like I said but we find him now in a new battle for Evelyn’s heart and safety. I just really enjoyed reading about Alex, he is the kind of man I would want my daughters to date so I truly found him carving a space in my reader's heart. I am almost confident to say he is my favorite lead male that I have read so far this year. Now on to wait for the next fantastic installment. I can’t wait to get my hands on it! Thanks for the fabulous read Ms. Wade!
I was so so so excited to see a new series by this author, who is absolutely a must read one click author for me. Then I see that is still has my favorite Fortis people..WIN WIN
This book had everything I have come to expect and love from this author and I loved the characters and can not wait for this series to continue. Alex and Evelyn knew each other as teens and lost each other causing a lot of hurt...Now years later that meet again and under very strained circumstances. The girl he loved years ago is now known as Siren and is nothing like he remembers. I loved the chemistry between these two and the fight to keep each other alive was executed perfectly.
I highly recommend this story as well as anything this author writes...She is a master at suspense and keeping you on the edge of your seat.

Alex: An Eidolon Black Ops Novel is by Maddie Wade is wonderfully written Romance suspense. This fast paved read was one that I could not put down. The story follows Alex and Evelyn. Alex: An Eidolon Black Ops Novel Book One by Maddie Wade
5-Stars
Alex was an amazing action packed and romantic novel. Evelyn is known as the Siren and the British Monarch has put out a contract on her for her death. Alex is assigned to protect her. She disappeared on him after his proposal 15 years ago. Can he protect the woman he still loves while trying to understand what happened? Can Evelyn figure out why she is being framed and handle being around Alex who is now part of the enemy team?
This was such an exciting novel and it was very easy to read. The characters were developed well and I loved the chemistry between Alex and Evelyn. They were so different as agents but I loved seeing their old selves shine through. The climax of this novel was awesome and the way the ending tied everything together was fabulous. I cannot wait to read more from this series and I highly recommend this novel.
“Alex” is a Great Start to the Eidolon Series! I love the way Maddie Wade writes military romance, and “Alex,” Book 1 of Eidolon Black Ops is amazing! This series is a spinoff from the Fortis Security series, and everything is set in Europe – such a cool change of pace from what I regularly read. Alex Martinez’s life took a pretty crazy turn at a young age when the girl he loved disappeared from his life. Rather than fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a chef, he joined the army and eventually became a special operative. Then, a chance run-in with Zenobi operative Siren brings him face-to-face with his lost love. Evelyn Garcia has been on the run for most of her life, and being flung back into Alex’s life has them dealing with long-buried feelings while ducking bullets and running from explosions. Wade writes action just as well as she pens those sexy scenes, and the plot is always a page-turner! SUCH A FAN!!!
Sweeties from the ages of 6 & 7 until 17 & 18, Alex Martinez Evelyn ‘Siren’ Garcia had their life together planned. But when Alex went to start on their plan, crime got in the way and Evelyn disappeared. Fifteen years later, they’re in the same place, same line of work, renewing the heartbreak they’ve both been living through; none of that was their plan.
Alex is lifeless since he and Evelyn had run into each other but the moment he learns Evelyn’s life is in jeopardy, Alex is on board and on the case. Meanwhile, various Eiodolon team members suspect there’s a traitor in their midst but are having difficulty finding the culprit.
*Cringe*. To my taste, there were a few leaps to get were the story wanted me to go, there was sex but no romance, some pieces seemed overlong – allowing boredom to set in and this reader didn’t rise above indifferent toward the leads. Summarized, this outing and this reader wasn’t a particularly good combo, connection was too weak. Rating: 3.5stars
