A friend recommended this and I found it easily. I couldn't stop once I started and read straight through volume 1. I like that 'just enough' happened here in their early relationship to allow this volume to stand alone, yet fuel my wishes to dive into the next volume.

I was glad to see family involvement. Aisuke's twin brother doesn't seem to mind that his brother likes guys. It is particularly hard on the father though. Kanzaki has his own sweet side even though he appears to be a tough guy on the exterior.

Nice 4.5* in this Manga genre. Often I've found other manga moving too slow. I liked this pace.

This is pretty nice and funny! It's been on my reading list for weeks I wished I read it sooner!

I love the story build-up so much. A homeless guy Seven and the weird kid who visits him every day to ask for punches and burn his energy. This is a freaking weird but cute set-up. Akamatsu is adorably innocent and Seven is so freaking hawt. I didn't expect skins and it was going pretty well but the hell with the weird bathroom scene? I'm still laughing! I loved that the author didn't rush the relationship levels too, and I love how the story, slowly, and piece by piece, unravels. This is a gem.

Much more serious than the average BL manga. I think it'll prove to be a rewarding read.

Genial!

June 2025 reread: Still solid, still four stars

I've never read a BL/yaoi with this style of art and was pleasantly surprised by how perfectly it suited the story and characters. There's quite a bit of humor but also some heartbreaking moments and I'm eager to continue the series.

Okay. So. This was one of those "What the heck am I reading?!" type of books! Some of the things that happened here, including the cover, were on the weird side for sure-- and yet it was also very domestic and wholesome when it wanted to be and it has the potential to be a great story depending on where the writers take it.

The first thing that stuck out to me was the art. It's not your usual pretty boy BL. In fact, according to the artist bio, this is Hiromasa Okujima's first professional BL series and he usually works on shonen and seinen manga instead. Some of the panels here do come off as battle manga artwork, and there is some delinquent/gangster/black market(?) plot going on that the artwork also reflects very well.

The plot has a story beyond romance. Yes, it's BL, but along with it there seems to be a larger LGBT struggles and coming-of-age element to it. Some drama, a bit of slice of life cuteness and comedy, then there is somewhat of a sense of danger with the gangster subplot (I really am curious as to how far they'll take this or if it'll end up being dropped).

And lastly, the characters. They are good, well-rounded characters. Likable despite their flaws.

So yeah, this totally surpassed my expectations and is brimming with potential.

Okay so I wasn’t as obsessed with it on the second read but I think that’s because it’s still pretty fresh in my mind so nothing was much of a surprise like it was the first time. I still really liked it though so I’m not changing my rating. I still stand by my previous review. I’m looking forward to picking up the next one especially with how this one ended.

Okay kind of weird and confusing in the beginning, but I absolutely loved this!! I loved the characters and the stories. It's both comedic and serious. I love that you slowly learn different things throughout the story there's a lot of showing, which I love. The secrets are (imo) pretty obvious, but it's still exciting to know you were right! I think the author did an excellent job with the story and I enjoy the more realistic style of the artist's art.

I cannot WAIT for the next volume. I already have it preordered. I want to know so much more about Nana and I want to see his and Aisuke's relationship develop. It's going to be so good I can already tell. I may have to cheat and find scans online. I already miss them :(

So much content in this book and so much to unpack! So mysterious and so many unanswered questions like: the monkeys, Seven and Eight, the ‘youth center’ that seems really really shady and dark ( I honestly don’t want to know about that, especially with Seven’s obvious sexual abuse), and why Aisuke apologized to his homophobe dad even though he’s the victim. I’m kicking myself for not ordering book 3 when I got book 2.

Read all the available chapters, not just book 1.

This was sweet until it wasn't. Then it was great because I am a sucker for Yakuza stories (...or "animal trafficking, or whatever it is called here) and emotional trauma (of which, out of nowhere, there was lots xD)

Very happy my friends encouraged me to purchase this manga. I went to look at it in the bookshop every time i was there because the premise seemed ridiculous. Homeless man yaoi?! But the plot and story just work, the characters are great and i need to know what happens next!

4☆ Review:

I’m pleasantly surprised! This was funny and weird, but really enjoyable. It was both serious and completely unserious at different moments.

Can’t wait to learn more about who Seven really is and who he’s associated with!

Who could have guessed that a manga about two dumbasses fighting one another could be one of the most adorable and strangely heartfelt BL manga releases of the year?

Bad Boys, Happy Home was one of my favourite manga of all time before I’d even finished reading volume 1, on par with Go For It, Nakamura! or Our Dreams at Dusk. I’ll go back to what I said at the beginning of my review of Nakamura: BL is often about pretty boys, rarely about gay dumbasses you could run into on the street. And I clearly have a thing for the latter.

This manga also delivers one of the most delightfully shounen openings I’ve ever seen in BL. Aisuke Akamatsu is a spiky, blond-haired teenage punk with a bad case of puberty. He stumbles on a young man in a tracksuit with dark hair and an undercut eating curry bred in a park playground and immediately picks a fight with him to blow off some steam. When he roundly has his ass handed to him, he returns again, vowing to defeat his newfound nemesis.

But then he starts to notice that Mr. Curry Bread spends a lot of time in the park, hanging his clothes to dry on the playground equipment, sleeping in some conveniently forgotten construction piping, helping homeless folks find some food to eat. Turns out Seven Kanzaki, aka Mr. Curry Bread, aka Mr. Pipe Sleeper, is homeless under somewhat mysterious circumstances. When the pipes are removed and Seven says he’ll need to go elsewhere, Aisuke takes in his wayward nemesis… so they can continue fighting, of course, and they quickly settle into domestic bliss with occasional throw-downs. Bad boys, happy home.
