Make or Break at the Lighthouse B&B

Rate this book
Thirty-one-year-old matchmaker Lola James had it all – until she broke her leg at a wedding and discovered that her so-called ‘best friend’ was suddenly too busy to call, her flat had far too many steps, and her boyfriend replaced her quicker than you can say ‘crutches’.

And so she’s back at her parents’ B&B, sleeping in the living room (she can’t get upstairs) and having her hair washed by her mum (she can’t get in the shower).

Freshly single and with a lot of time on her hands, Lola is only too pleased to run into gorgeous Dr Will, an old friend who has definitely improved with age… And then there’s Dean, a divorcé who’s convinced he’s better off alone – no matter how lonely he is.

Can Will help mend Lola’s broken heart as well as her leg? Can she help Dean find love? As a wise man once said, sometimes the one for you is right under your nose, all along…

Matchmaker Lola James thought she had it all- a great job, a gorgeous boyfriend, and wonderful friends. But when she breaks her leg, she discovers that her friends want nothing to do with her, and her boyfriend makes it clear that he's too busy to help her. With no one else in London to take care of her, Lola moves back to her parents' B&B in the picturesque little town of Marram Bay. While she recovers at home, she learns some important lessons about love and friendships.

I found this book to be a delightful and lighthearted romantic read, with witty dialogue, engaging characters, and a lovely seaside setting. Lola was easy to like and relate to. I enjoyed spending time in her world and would love to read more books set in Marram Bay. If you enjoy rom-coms, then I definitely recommend this book. As an added bonus, it's set in February, making it the perfect Valentine's Day read.

I received an ARC from HQ Digital through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I don’t know what it is about my love of stories where the heroine has to return home either because she broke up, got hurt, or has to take care of a relative… But, they are like crack to me.

And Make or Break at the Lighthouse B&B is just further proof as to why these books work.

Lola is a matchmaker with a broken heart… Can that heart mend?

This story was wonderful! I’m a sucker for stories that involve sweet friend groups! And, with the hilarious dialogue and the sweet romance; this book was just what I needed to read!

I've read two other books by Portia MacIntosh before and always had a good time with them. That was also the case here, I do like her writing style, and her characters are lovely. The setting in a small seaside town is idyllic as well.

But the plot was this time not particularly imaginative or special. Lola's job, how her mum organises the Unmatchables-group, how she later throws them all off the premises because of a minor incident, how Lola never reconnects with her former best friend, how she says that she is very disappointed in the man she went out with only once - but at the same time doesn't act very disappointed, the drama about the secretiveness of her dad, the sudden anger of Dean about respecting his privacy... On it's own only small details but all in all too much.

Unfortunately, also the B&B in the Lighthouse that features so prominently in the title plays no significant role in the story.
Still, I felt good being in Marram Bay and chaperon Lola and Dean a bit.

When Lola breaks her leg at her best friends wedding, she soon discovers that she doesn't have the close tight knit group of friends that she thought she had. She has to move back to her mum and dads to be looked after.
I loved the mix of characters that she meets when her mum talks her into running a lonely hearts club with advice. She uses her professional expertise to try and find love for the locals! They are such a varied bunch of people and Lola gets to know them well.
The Lighthouse B&B sounds wonderful- somewhere I'd love to stay. You get the small town community feel where everyone knows everyone and I couldn't wait to read more.

This book definitely made being up half the night with earache bearable.
I have to be honest, I am a huge fan of Portia’s and I am yet to read a book I have disliked. I am always instantly pulled into the pages and absolutely adore the stories as they unfold. This one has been no different. This is a gorgeous read which is guaranteed to leave you smiling.
This is one which has:
Romance ✅
Loveable characters ✅
Fantastic plot ✅

I have devoured this book in a matter of hours, it has gripped me and I have been excited to see how the story plays out.
There is literally nothing to dislike about this gorgeous, five star read. I wish I could rate this higher than five stars, it is definitely highly deserving.
A huge thank you to Portia and HQ Digital for the ARC of this book. I cannot wait to see what else 2020 holds. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I received this book from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

The beginning of the book bothered me a little because it's such a short book that I expected the love interest to be introduced earlier than 40% into the book. I still enjoyed the romance, a lot, and although I can't relate to the main character Lola, Dean is such a funny love interest that I couldn't give this less than 3 stars.
If you can overlook what I mentioned above, then the romance is fun and cute!

Title Make or Break at the Lighthouse B&B

Author Portia MacIntosh

Release Date February 14, 2020

Description from Amazon

Welcome to beautiful Hope Island, where the sun is shining, the locals are welcoming, and Lola is about to find a second chance at love…

Initial Thoughts

This story sounded like a cute rom-com and I was really in the mood to read one of those. I’m glad I was approved for this title – it came right at the perfect time.

Some Things I Liked

Witty dialogue. I loved the conversations Lola had with everyone, especially with Dean.
The Unmatchables. I loved the group that Lola formed (or rather, her mother formed) that she ended up helping. Their interactions were hilarious and I loved seeing their stories pan out.
Setting. I loved Hope Island and the local culture that came with it. I loved the way the island was described and I would love to go visit!

Series Value

While this story feels complete as a standalone, I loved all of the characters. I’d love a sequel with Lola matching more “unmatchables”. I thought the dialogue was charming and the characters were engaging and I’d love to see more of that set on Hope Island.

Final Thoughts

This book was super cute. I loved everything about it. If you’re looking for a rom-com for Valentine’s Day (or any time) check this one out!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A massive thank you to Harper Collins for sending me an e-ARC of this book.
This was a pure guilty pleasure for me. I've never been one for chick lit or anything remotely like that, but every once in a while a read a blurb and I am like 'this book, I need to read this book'. That's exactly what happened with this book and here we are, writing a 4 star review.

At first I did not like the main character, Lola. In the first chapter she just seems to enable her clearly selfish 'best friend', not calling her friend out on her crappy behaviour, and for a few chapters after, consistently tries to make excuses for why none of her so called friends and boyfriend could be bothered to help her in her time of need. Luckily her parents are more than happy to have her home and help her recover, and it's great seeing her character develop and begin to realise how terrible her friends in London were for her, and makes some unusual friends back at home at the B&B.

So something that happens later in the book, or rather it happens before the book takes place but it is brought up in conversation between characters, it really hit home with me, I actually had to put the book down and take a break (it was a short break, I finished this book in a matter of hours). I don't want to add spoilers but something we find out about Dean's ex wife makes me hate her for many personal reasons.

This book definitely would not be for everyone; its a little predictable and cheesy - the line 'I could kick myself, or I would if I could' is used at least three times by the main character who has broken her leg and made me cringe after the first time. BUT I know at least one person who I'll be recommending this too as they will love it.

It was lovely to be back on Hope Island and in Marram Bay. If you haven't read any of Portia MacIntosh's books set in this stunning location before then not to worry this stands completely alone, but if you have there is something rather familiar about the place, even with all new characters.

I loved the way Lola managed to break her leg, it was so mundane and yet showstopping as such, with accusations of her attention seeking. It's in the aftermath of this accident where Lola realises she will have to move back to Hope Island with her parents as none of her friends, or even boyfriend want anything to do with her while she is in pain and in a wheelchair. And from this she starts to realise that maybe her London life isn't all she thought it was.

For once she stopped feeling like a helpless child and her mum co-erces her into using her matchmaking prowess on a group a locals, or at least help them to be able to date on their own accord, that her days start to have a purpose again, and she involves herself in the lives of the group.

There are a couple of potential love interest for Lola, the dishy doctor and the kind hearted policeman, one of which was my favourite from the outset and I was hoping that would be the direction the story took.

I loved the dynamics of the group of people all who would like to meet the loves of their lives. It is a great varied group and the scenes they are in are really entertaining. Then there is also drama involving Lola's parents, and their new chef is coming up with some delicious sounding food.

It's just all round a really enjoyable story, and I had a great time reading it.

Thank you to HQ Digital and Netgalley and for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I quite enjoy Portia's books. They have snarky heroines with a sense of humor, an interesting premise, charming leading men who are kind and nice, and overall good, clean fun. This book follows the blueprint adequately.

So our main character has injured her leg and stays in wheelchair and crutches the entire length of the book. She realizes her boyfriend is selfish, her friends are fake and her job is superficial over the course of the book when this injury forces her to move back to the idyllic place of Marram Bay. The causeway and North Sea reference still fills my heart with wonder and intrigue. I am glad that the author took her time to make the heroine learn some harsh truths about life and how life back at home doesn't have to be the embarrassing thing she pictures it to be.

She makes new friends, dates ego filled jerks and her coterie of misfits whom Lola tries to help find a partner viz her mom's ad in Facebook make for an interesting read

What I did miss a comeuppance of sorts to life she lived in London. It seemed that the people around her there were getting away with being selfish to her, but I guess it is not that kind of a book. The leading man was quite funny and he fit the nice guy bill and the book ended without much angst or drama.

The author's book is a perfect pick me up while on a reading slump

Make or Break at the Lighthouse B&B was such a delightful surprise. I chose it based purely on the cover so I think I just assumed it was a cozy mystery.

Lola James is a professional matchmaker in London who happens to break her leg at her best friend's wedding. She has to move back home with her parents to their Marram Bay Lighhouse B&B. Stuck in a wheelchair she tries to make the best of it and looks forward to getting back to her old life in London. She meets up with old classmates, including attractive doctor Will Coleman. Her mom decides she needs something to do besides lounging around and taking painkillers so she places an ad on Facebook volunteering Lola to set up couples who have been unlucky in love. They call themselves The Unmatchables.

What a fantastic group of characters. They were likable and endearing and the setting was just gorgeous. It took a little while to set up the romance storyline and Lola was a bit superficial in the beginning. But I ended up really liking this cute chick lit romance. It was a fast and easy read, and I will definitely add Portia MacIntosh to my list of fun authors.

Delightful, funny, endearing - Portia MacIntosh delivers a good one once again. It was really a nice story (and I mean that in all the positive aspects of the word nice, not sarcastically or anything). Does it rock your world and change your views about life and such? No … but it doesn't need to, as the aim, to me, is to pass a good time reading about human, relatable characters with their flaws and humanness, all in an engaging voice and prose that really make the pages flow and keeps you enthralled. It was a joy to see Lola awaken as the person she was meant to be, leaving behind the one she was supposed to be. And yes, the geese scene - totally worth it!

I always listen to Portia MacIntosh books when I need a lift, a laugh or have just read or listened to an intense book and need to wind down. There are a few curse words that show up but not so many that it takes over the story. This was a cute story, like all her books. I enjoyed it more than some of her others.

Make or Break at the Lighthouse B&B by Portia MacIntosh is a delightful romantic comedy that I really enjoyed. Lola James is a matchmaker who broke her leg at her best friend's wedding. Unfortunately Lola finds out who her real friends are when she needs help since she will be in a wheelchair for awhile. Lola's boyfriend won't even help, so she returns to her parents home. I enjoyed all the twists and turns in Lola's life, and this was a fun book to escape with. I highly recommend this book.

Brilliant book. If you want something nice and cosy and where love happens then this is the book.
Lola has a brilliant job in the big city but at her best friends wedding she breaks her leg and requires round the clock care and all her friends and her boyfriend all decided its too much and don't offer her a room so she's upset to have to go home to her parents B&B in Marram bay yorkshire. Lola isnt enthused by the idea of being treated like a baby because she cnanot do the smallest of things for herself and feels totally usless. It's cold wet during the inter months and youmust know the tide times or you're in trouble. Lolas job is to find singles and match them together in the big city but can she do it here when there isnt many single people left in the small village. Lola's mum sets her up to do a lonely hearts session with the local singles in the area and they all become great friends and some find love but Lola just meets a friend in the big strong policeman and his beautiful dog rufus. Lola likes the idea of her old friend Will who is the local sexy Dr, but theres nothing sexy about a man who chases single women for sex. Or words to that effect.. within weeks Lola is worried about her parents and she goes on a stake out thinking her father is committing adultery ... only to be a surprise for her mum and dads anniversary, saved by the bell.
That's not all, Lola finds someone but it's someone you least expect and it's what shes been telling her clients. Can Lola resist the reasons of what she is telling her clinets and work through them herself?
The setting for this book begins in London and ends in a lighthouse on marram bay Yorkshire. Beautiful characters, full of witty funny details. I really enjoyed the writing style of this author, i will certainly read more books of hers now. It didnt take me long to get into it as i hate books that take forever for you to hold your concentration, that was easy and so lightweight and fun. I could imagine this being used as a movie one day. I Loved it

This is the first book I have read by Portia MacIntosh and I look forward to reading all of her back catalogue. It was a thoroughly joyful light read.

Lola is Chief Bridesmaid at her best friends wedding - a wedding that makes all other weddings pale into insignificance - she has a swan as a ring bearer!!! What she didn’t plan for was to face plant the dance floor and break her leg. The bride is furious - how could Lola upstage her like that. She also soon finds out that her boyfriend of 9 months is not going to be as attentive as she thought he would be and suggests she finds one of her many friends to help look after her. Cue excuses from her so called friends and her work telling her to rest until she is back on her feet - all this leads to her returning to her childhood home Hope Island for her parents to look after her.

“Make or break at the lighthouse B&B” was a comical and uplifting story.

After breaking her leg at her best friend’s wedding and being cut off by her boyfriend and friends, Lola has to move back with her parents to her childhood home where she will rediscover herself. There she will have to deal with a mum and dad that are behaving suspiciously and reconnect with some old friends, while trying to find love for an enchanting group of new friends, “The Unmatchables”.

At first I thought Lola would be a pretty superficial girl but was glad to find that she soon realizes the kind of life and friends (if you can call them that) she had in London.

I loved the dynamics with “The Unmatchables” and how they represented a whole different range of people and not only young girls, although it was a bit frustrating seeing how Lola didn’t practice what she preached.

I found most of the characters likable and endearing; the setting was a gorgeous one, and I’m so glad cause I just found out the author has several other books taking place in Hope Island and Marram Bay.

Fun and quick read with lovable characters and an entertaining plot that will leave you smiling once you reach the end.

* I received a review ARC courtesy of NetGalley.*

3.5 stars

Make or Break at the Light House B&B (say that five times fast) was my first experience with author Portia MacIntosh. It was also my first approved arc for review on Netgalley so, naturally, I went into it with high hopes and utter excitement. I cannot say I was disappointed.

Our girl Lola is a small town girl living in the big city with a rather unique career as a celebrity matchmaker. She’s got the hot boyfriend and ritzy friends. So, naturally, she loses it all in a cringy tumble off six inch Louboutins at her friend’s grossly over-the-top wedding (I mean, there was a swan as ring-bearer. Talk about extra.) Now hobbled by a wheelchair that makes it impossible for her to live in her own apartment, she’s ultimately forced to return to her tiny home town and the converted lighthouse her folks turned into a Bed & Breakfast when her turns-out-not-so-great boyfriend and equally shitty supposed best friend brush her real life problems aside.

I really enjoyed this book as a quick weekend read. It’s light, fun and, as an American, a great look into life as a Brit. Because of that there were a few euphemisms that I didn’t get but just accepted them for what they were and carried on. Lighthouses are some of my favorite kind of historic landmarks so to read a story about a family that actually lives in one was very interesting, especially because it was on a tidal island. Which meant access to the lighthouse via a causeway was completely dependent on the tide. I do wish there was some more touring of Marram itself, but this is only one book among two or three others that are set in the same town/world, so my interest in picking up the others has piqued. Also, I REALLY hope we get a Kim & Robbie story because I WAS INVESTED. Robbie was adorable and I need more of him.

Anyway, we have Lola who reunites with an old schoolmate that is now a doctor named Will. At first glance, their romance seems pretty apparent and then something happens that totally turns that on its head, which, if I’m being honest I was not a fan of. Especially, after the whole revelation with her big city boyfriend (I can’t even remember dudes name), which also, seemed a little flat. We only ever meet him at the beginning of the story and then never again except through Lola’s inner monologue as she is deciphering his likely infidelity. It just started to feel like a “woe is me” sort of deal.

On the other hand, Dean, our second love interest in this weak triangle, was a much better suitor and I was a bit disappointed it took him so long to make an appearance when his sister tricks him (pretty much) into joining the singles looking for love group Lola was running. He is cheeky and difficult but very genuine and has a good heart. He turns into the man that all of the others in Lola’s life were not. They go on fun outings that weren’t actually dates but to the reader were CLEARLY dates. Also, he’s a detective which turns into a basis for quite a few of their outings.
Before I sign off, I also want to mention the members of the singles group were all so fun, especially (again forgot her name) the elderly woman that was absolutely down with the young people and savvy of new technologies.

ANYWAY, I’ve rambled here. I haven’t quite gotten concision down just yet with writing reviews. Ultimately, I was pleased with this book. It wasn’t mind-blowing but entertaining and I am looking forward to reading more by this author.

Oh, Lola, Lola, Lola... She is about to learn that sometimes, people you think are your friends aren't your friends, at all.

Matchmaker Lola breaks her leg at a friends party and all of a sudden, everyone around her leaves her alone. Her boyfriend claims and says he has to work (Lola believes him until she realizes he is a liar and breaks yp with him), her friends doesn't want to take care of her, and her boss doesn't want her to come to work until her leg is healed.

With nothing else to do, she goes back to live with her parents for a short time, so that they can take care of her.

There, she reunites with the school loser, who became a successful doctor during the time Lola didn't see him. It feels as if she is going to fall for the guy, but don't be fooled. The doctor is a cheating bastard, who comes on too strong and gets rejected by Lola.

You go girl!

Then, Lola admits that she is bored with not doing anything while waiting for her leg to heal. Her mother has the perfect solution for her. Why doesn't she matchmake the singles of the town? Lola's mother brings together agroup of singles for Lola to find matches, and surprise of all surprises, even though she is reluctant at first, she befriends these people in no time, and she finds all of them matches, rather successfully.

In the meantime, she falls for a member of the group, too, obviously. Dean is a police detective who has a divorce under his belt despite being in his early 30s. He doesn't want a new relationship, understandably, but Lola isn't too eager about relationships anymore, anyway; after what both her boyfriend and her doctor put her through. But no matter how much they try to lie to themselves, saying they are only friends, the chemistry is undeniable.

The ending could be the best thing about this book. When Dean found out Lola talked to his sşster about his private life, as well as his first marriage, he gets angry, but he doesn't stay angry for too long, which is great because I don't love third-act break-ups when they last too long.

Also, at the very end, Lola and Dean only decided to give the thing between them a chance. That was it. I mean, of course I would love to read about their very own happily ever after, but they didn't know each other long enough for that, and Lola was preparing to make some major changes in her life; such as moving back to her hometown and maybe changing her job, even, altough she is stelllar at it, if I am being honest. I am happy that the author didn't rush Lola and Dean's relationship in the name of happily ever after. It made the ending more believable.

Plot

Welcome to beautiful Hope Island, where the sun is shining, the locals are welcoming, and Lola is about to find a second chance at love...
Thirty-one-year-old matchmaker Lola James had it all - until she broke her leg at a wedding and discovered that her so-called 'best friend' was suddenly too busy to call, her flat had far too many steps, and her boyfriend replaced her quicker than you can say 'crutches'.
And so she's back at her parents' B&B, sleeping in the living room (she can't get upstairs) and having her hair washed by her mum (she can't get in the shower).
Freshly single and with a lot of time on her hands, Lola is only too pleased to run into gorgeous Dr Will , an old friend who has definitely improved with age... And then there's Dean , a divorce who's convinced he's better off alone - no matter how lonely he is.
Can Will help mend Lola's broken heart as well as her leg? Can she help Dean find love? As a wise man once said, sometimes the one for you is right under your nose, all along...

Review

Oh this is just the cutest book!

I love the setting of Hope Island and the surrounding Marram Bay (you all know I’m a sucker for the seaside)

The characters are really fleshed out. I didn’t think I was going to like Lola at first as she seemed slightly entitled but I soon got over that as I loved the way her life starting to become clearer with each week she was laid up.

Dean is a total dish and I love his attitude towards life but I think my favourite of all was Doris the sassy pensioner looking for love.

I would have liked to explore the setting a little more but I understand that this book is part of a series so I will definitely be looking at the next books.

This is a fun quick read, indeed I read it in one sitting.

The only reason I’m knocking one star off is that unfortunately my proof copy was badly formatted and at times a little hard to read.

Now if you don’t mind I’m booking a reservation at the Lighthouse.

Make or Break at the Lighthouse B&B” by Portia Macintosh is a delightful escape into the charming world of the coastal B&B. Macintosh’s storytelling whisked me away to picturesque scenery and wrapped me in the warmth of endearing characters.

Set against the backdrop of a bed and breakfast, the story follows protagonist Lola James, a 31-year-old matchmaker whose life takes an unexpected turn when she breaks her leg at a wedding. Suddenly finding herself with too much time on her hands, Lola retreats to her parents’ B&B, where she grapples with newfound challenges of being freshly single and temporarily immobile.

As Lola navigates her way through the ups and downs of recovery, she finds herself drawn to two intriguing men: Dr. Will, an old friend whose charm has only deepened with time, and Dean, a divorcee who’s convinced he’s better off alone. Macintosh skillfully weaves together Lola’s journey of self-discovery with the blossoming romances that unfold against the backdrop of the coastal retreat.

What I appreciated most about “Make or Break at the Lighthouse B&B” is Macintosh’s ability to balance humor and heart. The witty dialogue kept me chuckling throughout, while the underlying themes of friendship, love, and second chances added a layer of emotional depth to the story.

Overall, “Make or Break at the Lighthouse B&B” is a heartwarming tale that will leave you with a smile on your face and a longing for a seaside getaway. Macintosh’s knack for storytelling shines through in this charming novel, making it a must-read for fans of feel-good fiction.

I highly recommend diving into the pages of “Make or Break at the Lighthouse B&B” for a cozy escape you won’t soon forget.

What a fabulous read this proved to be - another fantastic romcom from this highly talented author, a story I have absolutely no hesitation in highly recommending to anyone looking for a lighthearted, fun romance to escape into.

Lola James had left her island home and was working as a matchmaker for the rich and famous in London. She thinks she has it all - a dream job, great friends and hot boyfriend. However, after falling and breaking her leg she discovers just how tenuous those things are. Her boss doesn't want her in work whilst she's using a wheelchair and her so called friends and boyfriend aren't prepared to do anything to help her. Fortunately her parents come to her rescue and she returns home to recuperate in the family lighthouse B&B.

Returning home brings back memories, helps her to reconnect with her old friends and, after she finishes with her cheating ex-boyfriend, even potential new romance for her. Her Mum sets her up trying to help local folk find their match, helping allay any boredom and introducing her to some fantastic new friends. It is a story of looking behind the facade, discovering just who your true friends are, helping others and finding love when you least expect it. This is a great read that I loved and I hope we get to go back to Hope Island again in the future to discover what has happened in the lives of the characters from this book and meet some new ones, too. It is a great mix of laughs and romance with a couple of added dashes of mystery to keep you turning the pages!

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest review after choosing to read it and thoroughly enjoying doing so.

I am a big fan of Portia and i have read several books within this world as well as others and as always, she does not disappoint.

Lola James had it all, she had a boyfriend, a well paid job and glamorous friends, however when she breaks her leg at her best friends wedding, their true colours begin to show when no one wants to help her out and she is basically sent packing to her mum and dads b&b to live.

Even that isnt practical with a broken leg, as its a lighthouse, and Lola is confined to a wheelchair. A wheelchair that seems to be getting under her mums feet.
A mum who wants to set Lola up (despite her having a boyfriend when she arrives) and plans to get Lola a job who isnt even planning on staying.

Throw in her best friend from school, the hunky village doctor who even seems to be in love with and Dean whos sister is desperate to find him a date and you have the makings of a mixed bunch that are a delight to read all about.

I adored this book, it was lovely.Lola is a real likeable character - because she makes mistakes, she is flawed, she is frustrated and relate-able. Her family are a bunch that i warmed too so much. It was such a light hearted read that had me chuckling at some of the disaster, irritated at some of Lolas so called friends but most of all it had me rooting from them all to get their own endings. I dont just mean happy ones because some of them so did not deserve one. However - i am so looking forward to dipping into more of these books!

4⭐️ ‘Make or Break at the Lighthouse B&B ’ by Portia Macintosh

Down in paper, Lola James has it all: the job of her dreams in a love agency, a hot and successful boyfriend and the greatest friends down in London. Is she really as happy as she can be?

At her bff’s wedding, Gia, she unfortunately goes off balance while queuing for those lush profiterols when…ups! She lands on her feet and unfortunately breaks her leg, sadly.

But, no biggie! She has the greatest boyfriend, who becomes not so great when he makes it clear he can’t and won’t take care of Lola while she is convalescent, and on top pf that, her boss, who loves her (or that’s what we think) tells her not to come to the office because it’s not sexy or pretty to be wheeling around…

Lola’s parent are delighted to take her back home while she needs time to recover, in spite of Lola’s reticence to go back to her childhood house. She’s counting with there parents driving her crazy, and they do….!

This book has been a delightfully easy read, I would simply describe it as an up-lifting rom-com. All in all, It has a bit of drama, self-awareness, funny twists and turns! I totally recommend this book if you are in the mood of a feel-good book!

This book belongs to a series set in the same location, Hope Island but it can definitely be read as a standalone. It would be amazing visiting the Lighthouse B&B!I’m looking forward to what is yet to come written by Portia Macintosh!

Thank you so much NetGalley for allowing me to read this ARC.
This happens to be the first book I've read of Portia Macintosh and let me say I was not disappointed one bit! She has an excellent way of putting the right words on the page. It has it all..heartbreak, romance, friends to lovers, comedy. You need to pick up this book and take it on your next vacation cause you will devour it on the plane or on the beach. Such a fun read that just leaves you feeling joyful and happy after it's done. A feel good book :)

Poor Lola, not only has she broken her leg, but she's been put out by all who claim to be her friends and worst yet her boyfriend. So much that she has to go home to mom and dad to be looked after for. While she finds herself back in her home town with a broken leg and wheelchair bound she is board out of her mind. Well that is until her mom decides to give her a project with a little help of the towns Facebook group. With Lola's job as being a matchmaker back in London for the rich & famous, her mother puts out an add that Lola will assist the town with finding love. What starts out as annoying project turns into a little something she didn't see coming. Can going home to the island she couldn't wait to leave just be the thing Lola needs to find true love and true friendships?
